This was a good early first book for a young reader. It contains 5 short stories revolving around a little piglet named Amanda, mostly centering around her relationship with her big brother Oliver (it's in the title). Amanda, like most younger siblings, wants to do what her older sibling is doing. A LOT.
I thought the author did a good job in portraying a sibling relationship because there was some conflict and frustration on Oliver's part. Which is natural. There was also some frustration on Amanda's part when Oliver lorded his position as the older sibling a little too much. And the final story had Amanda discovering joy in maybe being a little more independent, which I felt was a good story to end on.
My children absolutely adore this book. Reading literature is so important to the development of a child's mind, and I cannot think of thing I would rather do then sit down to read to them in the evenings. Imagination and growth are so vital in those so young.
I love all of these. Amanda seems the same age as my oldest, but I can definitely relate to these dynamic and i can see this relationship being what the grow up into.
Very nice "chapter-type" book. Actually, they are 4 different stories that are progressive, but could be read separately and alone. Good simple illustrations that cover topics that are very relate-able for young readers about sibling rivalry.
The first book I read to my kids. They loved it a lot. It was fun. They laughed and shouted out every time Amanda says, 'Me too!'. Its their favourite.
