Everybody needs to be rescued sometime.

Veterinarian Mitchell Brannigan gets off to a rocky start with his new neighbor when someone calls the town to complain about the noise. Mitchell runs a shelter for rescue dogs, and dogs bark. But when he goes to make peace, he meets Beau Pfister and his fussy baby daughter, Jessica… and starts to fall in love.

Beau moved out to the country to get away from his abusive ex-husband, but raising an infant alone, with no support network, is lonely and exhausting. The last thing he expects is a helping hand from the neighbor whose dogs he complained about.

Mitchell understands what it’s like to live in fear of your ex, and he’s determined to help Beau move on. But when an unseen menace threatens the shelter and Beau, it becomes apparent that he hasn’t dealt with his own demons.

With each other and a protective Chihuahua for support, Mitchell, Beau, and Jessica could make a perfect family. Mitchell won’t let anything happen to them.

But who’s going to rescue him?

This book dragged for me. It felt like the same issues kept being discussed, over and over and over. Blah, blah, blah, ex-husband, blah, blah, blah, trust issues. Not one I'd recommend.

This bored me to death. Animals and babies, seemed like the perfect book for me but everything dragged, the Mc were nothing special. I barely finished it.

I had to read this when the author mentioned that “This story was inspired by a dog rescue organization here in Carlisle.”

Beau Pfister just wants some peace and quiet. Every since is best friend Amy was killed by a drunk driver three weeks earlier and named him sole guardian he has been trying his best to be the best dad he can be to four-month-old Jessica. But those dogs at the next farm over just won’t stop their blasted barking. To top it off Jessica has become more and more fussy and suffering from explosive diarrhea. When his neighbor, Mitchell Brannigan – the town vet, comes to apologize Beau discovers that he has inadvertently switched to a non-lactose free formula. Mitchell sees how tired the beautiful man is and invites him to a stress-free home-cooked dinner at his place to make amends for his dog rescue center. The two men are wary of each other, having suffered at the hands of their abusive ex’s, but begin to forge a friendship. But can they be more than that? Can they even learn to trust again? And what’s up with all the weird happenings going on all of a sudden?

I really like both these guys and really loved the chemistry they both had. I felt for them too. Both had become how they were from their past rough experiences at the hands of the men they thought they were in love with. I will say, the lack of trust and constant questioning of themselves became a bit over redundant. I got that they had experienced and suffered through both physical and mental abuse. I’m not saying that they should just brush it off. But I felt like they would try and then question everything. I also think being with someone who understands what you suffered through and is telling you they are having a hard time should have been a stepping stone. I got that they were hesitant and they were being thrown into stressful situations left and right. But, at some point, especially after they became intimate, they needed to learn that the other was nothing like their ex’s.

The animal rescue part was touching. The way humans treat other humans and animals with such violence and neglect repulses me. We are a family that have raised many rescue dogs and cats. Our daughter volunteered at one her whole senior year. We had to finally stop her from bringing home another rescue. I loved that Mitchell turned his family farm into a rescue center.

This was a nice, sweet yet slightly suspenseful read with a feel-good ending.

Not worth it

I wanted to stop reading so many times but thought I had already gone too far to quit. Should have quit and saved myself frustration and headache.
Pretty sure author was trying to hit a word count—only explanation I have for how repetitive it was, even within the same chapter, and how many pointless scenes there were (if it’s not furthering the plot or developing the characters, it shouldn’t be in the book). Exactly no one needed to read so many scenes of the vet treating animals that had no effect on the plot—and we already knew he was a vet and kind so it didn’t add anything to his character, either.

The repetition was especially bad in how many times we had to read over and over and over and then over again, even in the ending of the final chapter (not including the epilogue) about how they both need to move on and be done with their pasts and move forward and do we even like each other or are we rushing because remember my past I can’t stop telling you about well I’m thinking about it again even though I just told you 5 mins ago I was done and moving on and I’m so done with my past and I wonder if we like each other…. Yeah just that, in circles, multiple times a chapter. Did the author think we forgot? Was it an attempt to write how it feels to deal with trauma? Either way it was ineffective in every way—except annoying and boring me.

Visual/descriptive language was lacking, barely a clue what MCs looked like other than “hot”. Baby was hella unrealistic, especially for being such a frequent part of the book; she only cried when plot-relevant and slept the rest of the time. The characters acted stupid often too—worried about stalking/vandalism but they don’t invest in any security cameras, motion detectors, etc until the end—even that though is just a motion activated light that doesn’t go off when needed (and not because the stalker was sneaky—the author clearly forgot about it). Word choice also felt juvenile more often than not—phrases like “I felt good big time” don’t belong in a 30+’s mouth (or not in a story when supposedly you’re setting a romantic mood). Author ruined his own shabbily built mood so many times anyway, ending chapters with big summarizing statements like “things were getting dangerous” “and that was scary” like why undercut yourself? Threw off his own pacing too, which wasn’t a strong point to begin with, either.

The non-sequiturs were everywhere and infuriating; I didn’t even note them until halfway through the book because I thought it was one-offs or my inattention at work, but nope. It’s like author has never had a conversation with other people—he has his characters ask each other questions and they ignore each other’s questions and begin their next sentence with unrelated stuff. The other possibility is the author was trying to write autistic characters (albeit poorly/stereotypically) and that’s why characters either ignored each other or responded inappropriately: eg “here’s a story about hunting with my dad” “this is where I keep my gun” like not okay, thanks for telling me, cool story bro—absolutely no transition or acknowledgement of the paragraph we had to read and presumably the other character had to listen to. Just made no sense.

I regret reading it even if it was free. Took so long to read because it was boring, repetitive, lacking in logic, and had so much waffling I need to stay away from the Eggos for a while.

This is a typical Andrew Grey book – great characters, good setting, good story. Nothing wrong with that. In this one, there’s the added suspense of two abusive exes and a nasty neighbor—all of which cause chaos in Beau and Mitchell’s lives. Add in Beau trying to deal with an eighteen-month-old baby, and the baby’s grandparents who are determined to get her for themselves and you have the makings of a lot of tension and action. Plus the sweet moments for Beau and Mitchell. The only thing I would have liked more is if the dogs would have attacked Luke when he showed up rather than running away and hiding. Okay, they’re tiny dogs, but still… a good nip on Luke’s ankles would have been nice. But still, a good story overall.

Recommendation: If you’re a fan of Andrew Grey, definitely add this one to your TBR pile. And if you’re not a fan, you should be. A good story to read with a HEA that satisfies.

The writing was good but I feel like the writer started to abuse the formula: a single gay guy is taking care of one or more kids (siblings, adopted or rescued from the abusive foster care) with a lot of personal sacrifices, meets a lonely guy (usually older and better off financially) who falls in love with such a selfless caretaker and their cute kid(s).
All the guys either have the crazy abusive exes or the crazy relatives coming out of the woodworks with a vengeance for the most absurd reasons.

This story has both MC on the stable financial footing but the heartstrings factor was doubled: one MC is a father to his late friend's infant girl and the other MC is rescuing abused animals. Crazy exes on both MCs sides.

It was refreshing and touching the first several times I've read that story plot but now it feels like every new book is written with the same blueprint - same story, slightly different settings.
There are also very few positive female characters in the books: most are the heartless religious fanatics, indifferent/abused mothers or the plain old gold-diggers. Very few are the good ones, usually the grandmotherly types who help the hapless guys to find their way to each other, or the meddling sisters/a best friend with the same purpose.

I have the "New Leaf" on preorder but worry if it will turn to be the same old...

I know I can always count on Andrew Grey for a sweet read that touches my heart and he once again delivers with Rescue Me! I completely fell in love with Mitchell and Beau, and of course little Jessica and their journey to happiness.

Mitchell and Beau are two men who both have experienced violent exes and having gotten away from those situations are now working to rebuild their lives. Mitchell left his ex years ago and has spent his time building his vet practice and shelter for dogs. He takes care of these animals and tries to find their forever homes. Beau is newly divorced from his abusive ex and on top that, after the death of his best friend, he is a new dad to her little baby girl Jessica. These two meet when Beau moved into the house next to Mitchell. It’s not the greatest first introduction though, Beau is upset that all of Mitchell’s dogs keep baby Jessica awake.

While these two don’t exactly have a meet cute, they really do have a sweet story. What follows is an immediate connection between the two, but it’s a tentative one. Both men are afraid to open their hearts, afraid of making the wrong choice again, on that leads to getting hurt. They start to get to know each other, open up little by little. But, they are faced with a new challenge when it seems that they are being stalked, and they have to then try to figure out who could be after them.

Andrew Grey does a wonderful job of creating complex and real characters. Mitchell and Beau are wonderful guys, and they are so easy to love, but it’s also easy to feel their struggles and insecurities. I felt for both men and what they went through and could understand their hesitancy when it came to a new relationship. They don’t give up though, they know that what they share is special, and they are determined to fight for it. I loved the mix of romance and mystery and their story comes together in a wonderful way, giving both men what they need most. This was a touching, heartwarming story of healing and love!

Loveable men and dogs plus a baby

Mitchell runs a shelter for dogs and a vets office. He gets a new neighbor with a daughter that is having hard time sleeping. Beau is new father and at his wits end because his baby girl can't sleep. Instead of an all out war they get to know each other. Mitchell even helps him with why Jessica's not sleeping when he visits to smooth things over because of the dogs.

They both have horrible exes that were controlling and violent. Though They are not in the past as it seems. Someone is trying to stir up trouble. They release the dogs from the cages but thankfully not the barn. Someone even poisons Beau's new dog. Thankfully they caught it in time.

I was glad that no one actually got hurt. I hadn't seen which ex was going to cause the problem though. I had thought more drama would have come of Jessica's grandparents but was resolved so quickly. Which I was also glad about because I did not want no real drama with that.

I am also happy that they got together They were both back and forth on should they be doing this because of the amount of stress that they're exhausted making them over think everything so much from the past. I'm not sure Why I couldn't give it a 5 star like most of the books. It had to do with them obsessing over their exes so much.

Characters from other books was in this which was cool. I love Red so much. Jessica was adorable as well. The dogs were all sweethearts.

Andrew Grey comes up with the best characters! He has really outdone himself here with two broken men.
Mitchell is out of an abusive relationship and throws himself into his vet practice and rescue center. His mom left him the farm and he uses several acres for his rescue center where he brings dogs no one no longer wants, the owners want to put down or the police find in bad situations.
Beau is recently divorced from an abusive man and his best friend died leaving him her daughter in her will. No he is starting a new life with him and the cute baby girl. He buys a house I. A peaceful neighborhood until he hears dog barking all the time. He calls the cops and the neighbor comes to apologize. They become friends but one of thier pasts come back causing danger. But whose past is it?
I loved both men, the dogs, the baby, the slow burn of the romance. I also like the touch of mystery that keeps you wondering and the twist at the end is nail biting.
I highly recommend if you like hurt/comfort, friends to lovers, cute babies, adorable dogs, and a sweet romance with a hint of mystery!

DNF

This book is so not Andrew Grey. I almost felt that it is ghosts written because it’s so not like the way he usually write.

Mitchell is a college director and Beau a veterinarian, both men of authority I would think. But the really comes off as wimps who kept talking about their past. No don’t get me wrong, they are sweet but not fit to make decision as one would think they would have to in their line off work.

Normally Andrew gives vivid description of the characters, houses and surroundings, but to be honest as far as I could read there was nothing of that in what I read.

The book starts with Mitchell complaining about the noice from the dogs at Beau property, later in the book Beau drives to Mitchell’s house. If the dogs are loud enough to wake his daughter and can be heard from his house - I think it’s fair to assume that’s it within walking distance (just saying).

I was so disappointed because Andrew is on my TBR list. I LOVE his book, but this one was so off and wired that I just couldn’t finish it.

Hope that the next one in the series is better, cause I already preordered it.

Sweet tale of two gay men who're single after having abusive partners. Mitchell is a veterinarian who runs his own non-profit animal rescue and Beau is raising his best gal pal's baby daughter after her she was killed in a traffic accident.

The setting is rural Pennsylvania, and both men are thirty something, fit and charming. Clearly a wish fulfillment fantasy romance, the two are both clearly still recovering from their past relationships and things get a bit rougher when signs of a mysterious stalker begin to appear.

Overall this is a romance with way more discussion and rumination between the two on their past mistakes and their situation than most M/M romances. Some have criticized it for how little action the tale has, but those who prefer a more placid tale will enjoy it.

Admittedly there's more "men on the mend" action than "man on man action", but that's not always a bad thing. btw... the dog on the cover looks nothing like any of the described in the book itself.

I was into the premise and the idea of the book and I've actually set a challenge for myself that's sort of working to read one book a month with an animal on the cover for 2022. I do feel a little like the happy cover is a teeny tiny bit misleading if you didn't read the blurb (yeah I know don't judge a book by its cover, but I was buying at a convention and I always feel like I'm in the way if I read a blurb while standing there so I tend to buy off covers and hopes and prayers at cons LOL). Definite trigger warnings for abusive exes, animals in dangerous situations, and said abusive exes turning up again. I got halfway through in February and then sort of trailed off until June and I'm trying to get through my half-read books so I'm down to a manageable number, so I powered through the rest. I do love Randi the dog and I would have liked to have more interaction with the mysterious woman or wrap-up on the grandparents bit, though at least the main plot was wrapped up.

4.5 ⭐s A Stalker's Tale
Two lonely men are all pulled together by rescued pups. While I was briefly introduced to Mitchell in RUDOLPH Book Two of the Must Love Dogs series. I had no idea how volatile his backstory had been. But if that weren't enough his new neighbor was also experiencing some very similar issues as Mitchell.
The inability to trust another man, and at the same time trauma from both physical and verbal abuse, and fear of remaining alone for the rest of their lives. Some of the topics covered in this book are of great interest to dog lovers who also enjoy a MM romance. There were intimidating formidable Exes. The struggle of being a sudden single father of a young baby.
The importance of having good friends but even better found family. Being a blood relative is no guarantee of being a good and decent person. This is not a fast pace book but surprisingly a lot of action occurs. I enjoyed this book I can't wait to read the entire series.

I found Rescue Me really hard to rate. Not because it wasn't good (it really was), but because it wasn't what I was expecting, having read books from this publisher before. I was expecting a sweet romance between the vet and the neighbor. And there was a very sweet romance between the two.

I found the book hard to rate because of the overarching emphasis on Mitchell's ex-boyfriend, who both Mitchell and Beau, while going so far as to . I found that the took away from the romance and that the romance took away from the heart-pounding, page-turning thriller that this book could have been. 3.5 stars.

This is the first book by this author I have read and I really enjoyed it. It's about two men who have escaped abusive relationships and find love with each other. Mitchell is a veterinarian with a dog rescue. He divorced his ex a few years before. He goes to meet his new neighbor because the neighbor has complained about his dogs. Beau, the neighbor, has left his abuser over a year ago and basically inherited his best friends baby, who is very cranky. The two get to know each other vowing to go slowly but someone is messing with them. Is it Beau's ex or Mitchell's ex?

4.5 stars! These are second chances for both Mitchell and Beau as they navigate their attraction. Both have too much in common with abusive exes. Though Mitchell's ex is years in the past, his presence in Mitchell's life isn't. Both guys have to learn to let go of the past in order to embrace what they want for their future together. The bit of intrigue doesn't overwhelm the story.
The only glitch for me was the big focus on the grandparents that was never resolved.

Ok

This book is full of angst, past abuse, a dangerous mystery, and the attempts to heal. As a reader you cannot help but feel for both Mitchell and Beau. These two men with huge hearts have suffered greatly and are trying to move forward and eventually get their HEA, or maybe it is just HFN.
This book often dragged, there were a few things that felt unfinished or unresolved - including a serious situation, and the ending fell flat.

I do like Andrew Grey’s books. While I did like this one, it was not the best I have read by the author. I really didn’t connect with Beau at all - I’m not sure why…..And Mitchell was ok, but I wouldn’t have been super upset if they hadn’t gotten their HEA. I did like the mystery surrounding the couple and the sub-plot of the dog rescue.

This starts off sweet and cozy, two men meeting and liking, things seem nice, affection abounds helped by a gorgeous little baby girl and a few dogs. But a disgruntled ex hovers and then weird things begin to happen and this story ramps up. Nicely written, even as things go wrong it's a good read with slowly building tension.

It's a pretty standard story. Two hot guys meet, fall in love despite all the issues that surround their lives. One has a baby. The other has dogs. I guess the thing that kept me reading was the intrigue around their former loves (Both guys were in abusive relationships. Both? Isn't that a bit overkill?) I was being generous with three stars.

Three and a half stars

RESCUE ME by Andrew Grey is the first in the series. Veterinarian Mitchell Brannigan and his new neighbor, single father Beau Pfister, get off on the wrong foot when Mitch’s rescues’ barking wake Beau’s new little girl up repeatedly.

Mitch and Beau manage to work through the issues their pasts raise and determine a way to move beyond the wounds to a future together.

Who will rescue the rescuer?

Mitchell, a veterinarian with his own clinic, rescues dogs and can keep up to 15 in his converted barn. Enjoy how Mitchell meets Beau, a single dad with the adorable 4-month old Jessica and how they find time to savor kisses and steamier moments while facing new challenges and abusive exes!!!

Very intriguing... Had me.

I didn't think I would enjoy this book but it had me a quarter of the way through it. I was trying to second guess everything. I was just hoping Mitchell or Beau would make the leap.
