I found this book somewhat humorous, but the addition of grammar references in my opinion made it a dryer read than the first, 'I Always Get My Sin', which I enjoyed much more.

Like its prequel, sometimes it was a bit tedious to read. But I gave it 4 stars because it was a big improvement compared to the previous one. Light read, made me crack up quite a few times.

Some of my favourites: "I work myself the blubbers", "you can me what", "How well, having that said, the meeting is not for nothing", "What is your back name?" "I love to drive topless", "He invites them to come on table: 'on table!'"

(I feel like reading this book has had a bad influence on my English, rather than improving it, though ;) )

Bonus points because some of these were painfully recognisable, because I've heard some of my teachers say them. (e.g. "I take off my pet".. what? :D)

Oh, Dutchies, and your sometimes ridiculous English (not saying my own English is perfect, but I hope that I don't make many of the mistakes listed in this book)

A silly little book this week by Maarten H. Rijkens, called We always get our sin too. The reason I read this little book is because I went on a business trip to London this week. Not much time to sit around and read when you're in London!

This book is basically a book full of Dutch expressions literally translated into English. It's not great, because I think the author actually touched upon most of the funny expressions when he wrote the first book. This is meant to be a kind of dictionary, but I have never needed it and it isn't very practically because the way the index works is not ideal.

And to give you an idea of the phrases:
"We were hanging on your lips" (Should be: We were hanging on your every word)
"It's not a one day fly" (Should be: It's not a flash in the pan)
"How do you do and how do you do your wife?" (Should be: How do you do and how is your wife?)

Leuk vervolg op het eerste We Always Get Our Sin. Grote verbetering is dat nu bij elke zin aan wordt gegeven wat een correcte vertaling is. Ook de gedeeltes waarin iets meer van het correcte Engels wordt uitgelegd spreken aan. Nadeel is dat het boek daarbuiten vooral een lange lijst is en daarom soms langdradig leest.

Funny at first, however after several pages one gets the point. All jokes are similar, and this book is not worth purchasing as you'll come across enough funny mistakes in real life. Good concept though.

Talk about a niche book. This is only funny for Dutch people who speak English fluently, because its main point is the funny things Dutch people who aren't fluent say.

Vermakelijk boekje over het verkeerde Engelse taalgebruik van landgenoten. Heb je zo uit!
