The editor has chosen a midnight’s brace of short stories by mostly British authors--renowned for their short story skills. Themes range from: supernatural revenge, encroaching insanity, grisly murder, an anguished ghost, dangerous relatives, cruelty to animals and morphed bestiality. Related mostly in the first person these 19th century stories offer a variety of plots, set often in country houses mainly in England but also in Scotland. Literary credits include one French author, two Americans, one woman and one who uses a pen name. These first-person tales often feature a doctor—either as a neutral observer, or a minor character. One tale offers a cleric and one references Classical mythology; naïve students are the innocent protagonists of two tales. SO--if youre in the mood for gore and body parts galore—keep this little book in hand.

It's not exactly this book I have. Same title, but there's a lot more than 12 stories in the volume I have. But it's still classic horror and suspense from the same bunch of authors always appearing in these collections...
