Every parent hopes their little girl is going to be special, but Cassandra's mother always hoped her little girl wouldn't be.

When her mother died, she revealed the terrible truth, that when sunset came, she would be drawn into another world. A nightmare world, where monsters really did lurk in the dark shadows.

Three years later, Cassandra is still learning to control her magic, while doing the odd magical job for cash. She never dreamed something as big as finding several missing people would fall into her lap.

Despite the police telling her to leave the case be, she can't, because the law is fuzzy about the rights of the Preternatural groups involved. The police department may not care, but Cassandra does.

Something is out there in the dark and she is determined to do something about it.

I discovered Sonnet O'Dell through Facebook and decided to show my support by liking her page. In return for being her 125 visitor (I am sure that she has a lot more now), she surprised me by sending me a digital copy of Soul Market. Although she never asked me to write a review, I felt that the novel as well as it's talented author deserved some good exposure.
It took me a while to read the book, but not because it was not interesting. I had many moments in my busy life where I wondered what was going on with the characters and read bits of the novel here and there whenever I could. I hated putting it down.
Soul Market was a very creative tale that combined the world we know as well as another were creatures like vampires, werewolves, witches, and elves live. The main character travels from one world to another and uses her special mystical gift to solve the mystery of disappearing creatures.
This novel was very entertaining. It had a bit of everything in it; suspense, horror, fantasy, comedy and romance.
I highly recommend Soul Market! You won't want to stop reading, even after the book ends. Luckily, there are other books that follow.

An author to keep on one's "to watch"-shelf. The story was good, but the plot could have been tighter. There's a lot of info dump masqueraded as teaching lesson to the human cop. (Nothing strange for the first book in a series, though).

Cassandra is a tough heroine, she can (and will) defend herself and others. But I can't really call her "kiss ass". She's too good for that. She should have been mad/pissed a lot of times, but can't keep it :) I'm not sure I love this forever "goodness", even if as a person she's grounded. (Funny, since she shifts between 2 worlds...)

I'll be reading the sequels.

I would have given it 3.5 stars. But I can only give 3 or 4 I had to rate it a 3...it's not that good to rate it 4 stars.

I liked the ideea of the book, the action was ok...I just hate love triangles, and especialy if she choosees the good guy...i like the bad boys not the mhusy mhusy kind :P

I like the book enough to read the next one...especialy if there is hope that she will get togheter with Aram. What can I do, I just love bad boys.

Every parent hopes their little girl is going to be special, but Cassandra's mother always hoped she wouldn't be.

When Cassandra's Mother dies, she reveals a secret she has kept from her daughter for her entire life. That when sunset falls, she will be dragged into another world, a world of monsters.

As Cassandra learns to control her Magic, with the help of the very amusing Virginia, whilst trying her best to lead a "normal" life amongst her friends, she is drawn into the mysterious case of several missing preternaturals. Despite being warned off the case by the police, Cassandra can't help but feel that she needs to help those unable to help themselves, for whom the police seem to have a great deal of disdain, but no real concern.

Can Cassandra find out what has really happened to those missing and bring them back to their communities before it's too late??

Soul Market is a gripping paranormal thriller set in one of the most unassuming cities in the United Kingdom, and a fantastic debut from a truly home-grown author!

Ms. O’Dell has amazed me with her wonderfully written tale filled with all types of creatures, both good and evil. Soul Market is a mind-blowing story of Cassandra, a woman who has natural abilities with magic, but is not quite sure where they came from. I love how realistic she is as a heroine with her sarcasm, witty comebacks, and her bad girl persona that gives off a hint of the dangerous person she could be. There is enough mystery thrown in about her past to keep the reader guessing, and though there is no sex in this story, there is such an air of sensuality between Cassandra, Magnus, and Aram that my heart beat a little faster just from some of the sexier scenes. From the first page to the last, this novel will take you on a wild ride full of vampires, demons, hideous creatures, werewolves, and so much more that you will find yourself begging for more once this story is finished.
