"His expression could shatter me into a thousand pieces. There is no other way to explain the way he stares at me. Like I am a single flickering light at the end of one inescapable tunnel..."
✔️ Greek mythology
✔️ Titans and gods
✔️ Demigod
✔️ Angsty romantasy
✔️ Found family
I would have rated it two stars if it wasn't for the second half.
The first half of the book was single handedly carried by Epiales. The pacing was extremely slow and the whole plot was boring me. I kept reading because of Epiales. Things started picking up in the second half, which I enjoyed comparatively.
Before I get to what I enjoyed, I just want to point out some things that made zero sense to me.
1. The humans have been slaves to the gods for decades and decades. Now this one girl comes in and starts lecturing the gods to change and they all forget about their stubborn selfish ways and agree. Not only that, the girl has managed to unite them without any troubles or conflicts. Yeah like that'll ever happen (ask Percy).
2. Lack of clarity on the FMCs powers. The first half, I could not understand what she actually does. What makes her the "god killer"? There's no clarity at all, by the second half I figured it out but it doesn't come across as anything special tbh. How can the titans and gods be weaker than a demigod?
3. Kronos. What happens at the end does not make sense to me at all. That scene was carried by Epiales, Ares and Saffron.
Apart from that, I have a really hard time relating to, or understanding the FMC. She has no personality, she is as bland as white bread. I don't like her. At all. Before starting with this book, I thought she would have had more character development, but it's only like 5%.
I like the story and the love interests and the conflicts that are happening, which is why am so invested. I also liked that it was more action packed compared to the last book.
Hermes took a backseat for me in this one. Epiales, of course, was the interesting one. Along with Ares and Apollo having their own moments with the FMC. One of my favourite moments in this book would be when the battle towards the end is happening, with Ares finally opening up to her in a moment when she is lost. I liked the banter between Poseidon, Athena and Hattie.
The ending was an emotional one. I did predict it right at the beginning of the book, but it still hurt.. a lot. The epilogue makes me excited to read the next book.
Overall, it's something that could be better but there are plot holes that I personally would want to be addressed. Still hasn't lost my interest so 🤷♀️
