“What a pretty little bird, in a pretty little cage. A cage you will not escape, Marie, not anytime soon.”
The worst thing that could ever happen to Marie did, and now, she’s reduced to rubble like a disheveled bird.
Her body is burning. Her mind has gone mad. Her heart is frozen, unable to beat. And her soul is wailing, thrashing around inside her, trying to escape the jail it’s forced to live in.
Its jailer—a male who’s known as the Silver Blooded Devil, willing to make a deal over anything. He’s sinful when it comes to getting what he wants, and all he desires is power.
So, Marie makes a deal that will help end her life and free her soul. The price, a betrayal to her being that will relieve the burning in her body and of the crown she is expected to wear.
The devil and the songbird find themselves a pair, two broken hearts, two vicious souls, against not only the Unseelie King, but all the eyes that view the two outsiders.
Heart Cold as Gold is a story about despair and the madness found within it. It’s the second book in the trilogy and ends with a cliffhanger. The themes covered within this book are Dark and may not be suitable for all readers.
⭐️Enemies to Friends to Lovers ⭐️Spice ⭐️Fae ⭐️Different POVs ⭐️My Stèla??? ⭐️Tragedy ⭐️Morally Gray ⭐️Cliffhanger
"The devilistic parts of me wanted to play with that darkness. I had the desire to drown in it. Bathe in her sorrow, swim in her pain. To dirty myself with their inky shadows because I loved dirty little things." After the ending of Blood So Black I had so many emotions and honestly could not even come close to guessing where this story was going to take us. I began the story and was yet again instantly hooked. The authors writing style is captivating and instantly draws you into this world of creatures and chaos that she has meticulously built. This book had immense character growth, strong bonds were formed, while others were a bit broken. I enjoyed watching each character struggle to find the strength within themselves and push through their darkness to reach their light.
"No, I wanted to drown in her eyes, play with her demons, suck the darkness out of her soul." Levi was sexy, possessive, and I instantly loved the chaos he brought into book one...HOWEVER, Karnelian swept in and took our breaths away. His whole life he has been called wicked, evil, the Silver Blooded Devil, the abomination of a prince. He has quit believing in people and trusting his heart. He has put walls up and has done his very best to be the villain of his own story. Though I would say that while he is also quite morally gray, he is able to make Marie grow in ways Levi never could have. He pushes her, roots for her, dare I say LOVES her, he wants only the best for her and before he realizes it she is able to weasel her way into his heart without even trying.
"Power wasn't my drive to get through the day, it was her." "My Stèla"
"In this moment all I wanted was him." Marie has suffered so much throughout this series. She is always trying her best to please everyone else that she didn't realize she had lost herself. Though a lot of the book is her battling her demons with her subconscious and her beast, we are able to see so much growth and development in her character this book and I absolutely cannot wait to see if she becomes the badass queen we all know she would be! Being around Karnelian she has let him into her mind, something she had never done with Levi. She is torn and abused with the guilt of having herself slip and allow someone into her life, her mind, her heart. Karnelian may not be her "mate", but he may very well be her person.
"With him, I was free to fly, him the air that helped me soar." She was nothing but a shell of the Marie that we had all come to love. We watched her come back to life as the shell slowly cracked and release even brighter rays of light. A new, stronger, braver, Marie.
"A darkness will come then, sweep you up and show you all its horrors. When those horrors come, let your darkness in. It will protect you from succumbing to madness."
I am still uncertain if we have seen the end of this quote. Corivina is strong and independent. Shes willing to sacrifice herself for her goals and her loved ones. Sometimes, this makes her a pretty big pain in the ass to Darius though.
"They are what bring you a rain of ruin. They are what bring us a cluster of chaos."
Darius breaks through her darkness and becomes her sun, hoping to lead her to a safer place...a place where hopefully he freaking stays, because I love him soooo much. He is a big cinnamon roll who loves his family dearly and is the glue that holds them together. It was not hard for him slide into my heart and become one of my favorite characters from this story!
Overall, this book is so beautifully written. It reaches in and pulls the strings of all your emotions, anger, sadness, love, amusement, etc. The different POVS are all intriguing and keep you hooked all while seamlessly flowing throughout the story. THE ENDING...The ending will leave me awake at 3 am while I scour through my thoughts for all the possible hints and meanings of this book in hopes of predicting where book 3 is going to take us. I know without a doubt, it will be better than anything I can come up with. This author and this story has become one of my favorites and Soul Made of Silver is my most anticipated read for next year!!! Thank you SO MUCH Jewel Jeffers for this amazing world, it's characters and this story!
Book two & Marie is still not a character to root for……….. there is still no substance to her, all she does is cry and want to have sex. The author tried a little bit to say that Marie could sing, but that flopped badly because nothing was ever written after that one attempt. She exists solely for everyone else’s pleasure & has hardly made any new advances with her magic. Even her own mother says she did not raise her that way.
Dont read this book if you like strong, willed, bad ass or kick ass heroines because Marie is the exact opposite of that.
Tropes - depression - multiple POV - smut - loss - sequel of Blood So Black - fae - toxic love vs. healthy relationship
Once again @jeweljeffers delivered it all. Pain, love, anguish, smut, heartbreak, .. This was such a magnificent sequel of Blood So Black. I just could feel it all. Jewel has such beautiful and powerfull writing skills and she is slowly becoming one of my favorite authors.
Marie wants to die. She is going through depression, loss, trauma … But when she gets to know Karnelian, The Devil, her perception of her own life finally starts to change.
Thank you Jewel for the honor to read Heart Cold As Gold in advance....
Please read this review with care.... it may contain spoiler for Blood So Black, in the series. I will try my best to not spoil anything though.
Heart Cold As Gold picks up five years after the tragic events on Winter Solstice. Marie is broken and doesn't think she can go on continuing to live. But she is trapped, trapped in a cage, until the Silver Blooded Devil, Karnelian Lightfire the original heir, steps into the picture. She makes a deal with the devil that will cost her her very soul and a betrayal to all that she holds dear. Will these two vicious and similar souls stick to the terms of the deal or will lines blur and hearts break?🖤
Marie Shadawn, our FMC, is dealing with a whole lot of grief. I am not going to go much more into detail because then it will spoil HCAG and also Blood So Black. But just know our girl really goes through it. And she is trying the best she can with the tools she has. And Karnelian really breaks her out of that shell. 🖤
Karnelian Lightfire, our MMC, oooooffffff this male is off the charts. 🥵🔥He is diabolical, sexy, cunning, quick witted, smart, and so so much more. I am not going to delve deeper into his character. He is someone you need to experience for yourself. I do want to say that he is very much not a cinnamon roll. He may be soft for Marie but even those times are a very limited "soft". Bahaha. But I absolutely ate his character up.
Now onto our side characters... Darius I want to save you and hold you and wrap you in a burrito blanket and keep you safe. Vina you made me mad throughout the most of the book, just let the damn man in. It's fine, its fine, no really I'm fine. Maybe haha

Jewel's writing just captivated me from the first page, even with Blood So Black I was hooked immediately. And Heart Cold as Gold is no different. Her writing is so tragic but keeps you wanting more of the heartbreak. So, yes she kept breaking my heart and putting it back together. Ultimately breaking it at the end and me staring into the abyss. Wondering where the heck everything is going next. I'm scared but I need book three like yesterday to know how all my trauma babies are fairing.
HEART BREAKING, INTENSE, DEVILISH, SECOND CHANCE?!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5/5 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️5/5
DAMN IT! This book was intense. It took your heart out twisting it, threw it and stomped on it. Tried to put it back together. So frustrating, Marie had gone through a huge loss, but she keeps denying herself the things she needs and then the things that can help her heal while also self sabotaging. It was so heartbreaking to read. The first book build your high up, in the clouds, and knocked you down in the end for this one to keep you on a roller coaster of emotions throughout ALL OF IT!! I was crying, sad, mad, excited, frustrated, anxious, I mean OMG the emotions were endless!!! This author sure does know how to keep an audience on the edge of their seats wether it’s dripping from the spice or bitting nails from the cluster feck that’s happening. I’m so invested, I’m going to be rereading book 1 and 2 and hope that we fast forward to when book 3 comes out because OMG!!!
Recommend this book!! Absolutely!!! MUST READ. Start with Book 1: Blood so Black.
Ugh, this book broke my soul then glued it back together just to rip my heart out. Jewel's cliffhangers are no joke. I am confused and angry and so desperate for the next installment.
Jewel's writing is absolutely beautiful. I made so many highlights because I just love the way she writes. It's so effortless, it's not overwhelming and over descriptive like with some fantasy books. I don't want to say too much about the plot and give any spoilers for BSB or HCAG but just know that I cried, a lot, which is what I've come to expect from Jewel. She loves to dish out pain with her writing and, like Marie, I'm a glutton for it. But along with pain, she also delivers pleasure and man, oh man, the spice in this absolutely hit. It was delicious and I ate it up.
I'm not going to say too much about Marie because it's hard without giving BSB spoilers so I'm just going to say that I felt proud of her and the journey she goes through in HCAG. And he is everything she needs and deserves and she is the same for him. I was/am rooting for her/them.
Lastly, Corivina. I hold her so dear to me, I see so much of myself in her and she is still one of my favourite fictional characters ever. Corivina is not a very good wife or mother for most of HCAG but she's complex, she's guarding herself because it's her survival tactic, it's what she feels she needs to do to see her plan through. But the way she needs Darius (despite pushing him away) and the way he loves her in return made me love her and them as a couple even more. Darius deserves the world and even though she doesn't always feel it, my girl Vina is the world to him. I think the fact I feel deeply connected to Corivina as a character helps my understanding of her but I can see some people easily misunderstanding her and finding her possibly unlikeable which makes me feel a little sad.
If you only ever listen to one rec from me, please let it be this. Read these books, have your heart ripped out, revel in the pain and experience these deep traumatic love stories.
Jewel has broken me with another cliffhanger and now I have to wait till 2024 for book 3!!!
Heart Cold as Gold is book two in the Fae of the Sun and Moon series. It is a spicy/smutty dark fantasy romance. Not much phases me but I would certainly encourage you to read the trigger warning. I am along the line of “the more the better.”
Marie grows so much in this book. She is a shell of herself with how book 1 ended but she is able to open herself back up and I am all here for her accepting love again.
I can’t stand Marie’s mother Cor. I get it, she is mama bear but she is too much. Not saying she was not. Good character, I like how her character also changes and grows in this book her character’s personality it key in how other react and interact with her and because of her but I just don’t like her.
Karnelian… I love him. He is what Marie needs and really what she needed from the beginning. I didn’t think I could get over Levi but then walks in Nelian and I’m like “Levi who?” He is the definition of the morally grey MMC.
“What a sad little bird she was. It was the appropriate way to act in this type of situation. Half of her was missing. Her body was still whole, her mind still intact, her heart still beating, but her soul was connected to another’s. Her soul had decided that she would spend this life with its other half, but the gods had other plans. Plans they tried to whisper in my ears, but I was known as another entity—one that went against the gods.”
“What a pretty little bird in a pretty little cage. A cage you will not escape, Marie, not anytime soon.”
“He was the devil who danced with his demons and inspired me to want to dance with mine. To be able to smile with a cloud of darkness over my head and revel in indecency.”
“Marie softened under me, her hold loosening, but she still cradled me like I was something precious and valued. No one had ever held me like this.”
EXCUSE ME?? I'M SO OFFENDED BY THAT DAMN CLIFFHANGER 🥲HOW COULD YOU DO THIS AGAIN?
BSB was osm but the HCAG was on fire cuz of nelian 💁🏻♀️ there's a part of me who fell in love with nelian while another party of me felt like I'm betraying levi by crushing over nelian (sorry levi 🫂🥲)
🗿👐🏻I seriously hate Corvina she say Darius is her sun she will love him till the end but at the same time she still have feelings for Markos who gave her trauma and pain,I mean Darius deserves someone better 🥲 Corvina's darkness had made her toxic.
🥺Nelian saw her first and fell in love with her first he heard " she is the one " when they first met even before the sorting thing it feels like nelian is her second chance mate?idk 🗿 but I'm gaslighting myself by thinking he's her second chance mate.
When Marie was about to die and nelian was so desparate to save her i cried so hard at that scene 🥲🥲
Nelian-
“Marie, wake the fuck up.”
“Please, Marie. You can’t fucking die,” I begged. I never begged but I would for her. I would strike a deal with the gods. Anything for her, my body for her, my life for her, my soul for her.
“Come on, Marie. Please. Please come back to me. Please wake up.”
“Please, my Stéla.”
After death of levi Marie never smiled she choose to cut off from everyone's life she was barely alive, but then Nelian came Marie's smile again rose upon her face she didn't had those traumatic dreams whenever nelian was with her, she let Levi's marks fade away all bcuz of nelian 🫂 he's a devil who came to stole Marie's heart❤️ comparing to levi and Marie ...nelian and Marie's bond was better than that.(sorry levi²)
Can third book come any sooner? 😭🖐🏻
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Excuse you Jewel for ripping me apart like this!?!?!?! Honestly at the end of the last book I was like damn how is this going to turn into a spicy trilogy after this ending!?!?!?! And then boom you did it. A) Marie is so sweet and so sad and I feel for her 😭 B) Karnelian!? He is my favorite. I love Levi (but honestly I love Karnelian more I’m saying it!) Most importantly C) WHAT WAS THAT ENDING. I simply cannot wait to understand what comes next. This book was really so so so good (and v spicy, loved that). But yeah I have a few of these characters on my h*t list.
Update: Just finished reading the final and released version of HCAG and I need book 3 yesterday!
This second book brings us through everyone’s inner turmoil in a way that is realistically relatable and raw—well as relatable for a fantasy novel can get, you know, minus the magic, being far, and all that 🤣
Without spoiling anything, Jewel Jeffers’ ability to set up each book for the next left me ready and wanting for more. I’m excited to see if my guesses on what will happen in book 3 are correct or not 😆
I have fallen hopelessly for Karnelian’s character! What a power house! 🫠🖤
I enjoyed how this book had moments that made me laugh, cry, angry, feel anxious, and more. There’s is always something special in books and writing when they make you feel emotions.
I am a sucker for books that make me sad cry and rip my heart out only to put it back together in the way of words on paper. So if you’re like me, this is trilogy that you might enjoy! 🥰
There have only been a few times that I apply to beta or ARC read the next book in a series. It’s only if I truly enjoyed the first book since reading is a dedication in the form of time. With that said, thank you for the opportunity to beta and ARC read, Jewel Jeffers! This is my honest review.
——————————-
Beta read Heart Cold as Gold by Jewel Jeffers and I can't wait to read the final version when it comes out!
Book two of the Fae of The Sun and Moon series, titled Heart Cold as Gold, picks up where the previous installment left off, delving into the darker aspects of grief and the struggles faced by those affected by it. Marie, the main protagonist, finds herself more vulnerable and emotionally raw than ever before. Her weakness and inability to fully cope with the pain caused by the loss of her love are evident throughout the story.
However, it is not her weakness that I find off-putting but rather her humanity. It is through Marie's grief that the author accurately portrays the depth and complexity of emotions that are often difficult to articulate. The author does not shy away from conveying the rawness and authenticity of Marie's journey through grief, making it evident that she is not alone in her struggle.
One character who stands out in this installment is Karnelian, a refreshing change from the previous male protagonist. Karnelian, a new character introduced into the narrative, plays a crucial role in breaking down Marie's walls. Despite his initial stiffness and formality, Karnelian manages to connect with Marie on a deeper level. His efforts to help her overcome her grief are commendable, but his efforts are ultimately hindered by her overwhelming grief.
Instead of simply providing emotional support, Karnelian takes an active role in breaking down Marie's walls and helping her confront her emotions. His efforts are not always successful, and he faces his own challenges along the way, but there is always a sense of genuine care and concern underlying his actions.
While I appreciate what Karnelian is trying to do for Marie, the weight of her grief proves to be too much for him to handle. Their interactions are poignant, showcasing the complexity of their relationship and the potential it holds. The author's portrayal of their dynamics feels authentic, highlighting the difficulties that arise when two individuals are dealing with intense emotions.
The accuracy of the author's portrayal of the subject matter of grief and suicidal thoughts is undeniable. The author doesn't shy away from depicting the harsh realities of grief and the profound impact it can have on a person's emotional well-being. I appreciate the author's willingness to delve into the depths of pain and loss, as it adds to the authenticity and depth of the story.
Corivina, Marie's mother, also plays a significant role in Heart Cold as Gold. She is forced to confront the consequences of her lies and deceit, groveling for the pain she has caused her daughter. Her actions had resulted in tremendous pain for her daughter, and it was difficult to forgive her completely. While I understand that her actions were driven by her own self-interest, I don't feel any sorrow for her. Her actions were selfish and destructive, making it difficult to muster sympathy for her.
The intimacy scenes in Heart Cold as Gold are sizzling hot, adding an extra layer of intensity to the story. The author skillfully weaves these scenes into the narrative, enhancing the overall sensuality and tension. It adds an extra layer of depth to the relationship between Marie and Karnelian, adding more depth to their connection and making it even more enticing.
Overall, book two of the Fae of The Sun and Moon series, Heart Cold as Gold, is a captivating exploration of grief and the unbreakable bond between two individuals. The author accurately portrays the subject matter, holding no punches in depicting the rawness and complexity that comes with it.
The slow development of the story and the growth of the characters only enhance my appreciation for this series. I am eagerly anticipating the final installment, eager to discover where the author takes Marie and Karnelian on their emotional journey.
Heart Cold As Gold is the second book in the Fae of the Sun and Moon series. This dark and spicy romantasy basically picks up where the first book left off. After Marie's mate, Levi, dies, she is left heartbroken. Her soul aches at the loss of its other half and all she wants is to end her life and join him.
Jeffers introduces a new MMC in this book: Karnelian Lightfire, aka The Silver Blooded Devil. Karnelian is King Dominick's, the Seelie king, firstborn and would have been heir to the throne had he not been a silver-blooded hybrid. He is very powerful and his business makes use of this power. He is all about making deals. Fearing for their daughter's life, Karnelian is asked to use his abilities and make a deal so she cannot take her own life. He uses his power to mark her with his brand preventing her from deliberately putting herself in harm's way.
The author then jumps ahead about five years where we find Marie living back in Seelie with her parents. Corivina, Darius and Kolvin watch over her. Marie lives, but is a shadow of herself. She is no longer the joyful "Sunshine" she once was. She goes through daily motions, numbing herself with faerie dust, but only yearns for death. We learn that plans are underway as war between Seelie and Unseelie seems imminent. If King Markos is killed, Marie will need to take the throne. All his magic, and that of all prior Unseelie kings will enter her body so she needs to be prepared. Karnelian is asked to teach her.
Uncharacteristically of the Devil, Karnelian gently eases Marie back into the world. He takes her out and talks with her. He slowly teaches her and works with her to strengthen her body and mind. Her soul however remains broken due to her tragic loss. Spending so much time together, the two become friends. They recognize each other's madness and find comfort in the other's company.
Once again Jeffers has taken readers on an emotional rollercoaster ride, and leaves us wanting with a cliffhanger. While mates finding one another and connecting was beautiful and captivating in the first book, I loved Karnelian (aka Nelian) and Marie (aka Little Bird) together. Their relationship, while still unbalanced, seemed less controlling. Karnelian is a deliciously wicked and powerful morally grey character, but (at least with Marie) he is kind and generous and patient. He pushes her boundaries, but only in the very best way. While not her (soul)mate, they seem very well matched and I thoroughly enjoyed seeing their relationship develop.
Like the first book, there is a lot going on... so much more that what I have already noted. I was hooked from the beginning and kept hoping that these beloved characters would find peace and happiness. This amazing trilogy will end with Soul Made of Silver which isn't coming until April 2024 so we have to keep hoping that the pain, sorrow and torment these characters have endured will come to an end and they can get their well-deserved HEA.
I definitely recommend this series for fans of romance and fantasy.
I will be the strength you need when you feel weak.
This book dealt with many deep emotions. It's a heavy read. From each of her characters, the author has wrung out a great deal of challenging emotion. I particularly liked how guilt was portrayed here.
There are a lot of trigger warnings; please read through them before starting this series.
My options - stay and continue in this annoyance, or dance with the devil?
This is the second book in the Fae of the Sun and Moon series. And we pick up right where we left off in Book 1. I cannot reveal much as it will spoil Book 1. In this book, we focus on Marie, Corivina, and Karnelian for the most part.
One is destroyed. One wants revenge. One lives for family and love. One is interested only in deals. One is a great friend looking for love. One is mad but powerful. One wants death.
"I am the sun and you are my moon, letting me rest as you hold the night."
Plot and Writing: This book features multiple POVs, and the writing flows beautifully. The pacing of this book is neither fast nor slow, and the plot is also very well structured, and I felt this book was mostly character-based. I was engrossed in the storyline. It is structured around the characters dealing with what happened in book 1, but because it deals with such heavy topics, there were times when I needed to take a breather for 2–3 days to read something lighter.
I couldn't lose him. The thought had me feeling like I was falling, and I would do anything to stay upright - stay grounded. "I can do whatever you want."
Characters: All the characters are very well fleshed out. Their motivations, although often morally gray and sometimes self-serving, felt very realistic and logical. In this book, I had no favorites; the two characters that came close were Darius and Karnelian.
"And then you'll let me go?"
The character who touched my heart was Marie. The author's description of Marie's guilt, her sadness, her struggles, and her soul is a beautiful torture.
The one thing that most intrigued me in this book is that a character in this book is divided into parts: a beast, a soul, a body, and a mind. Each part can have different desires, such that a soul's demand may be different from a beast's or a body's.
We were both broken, just in different ways. Mine of sadness and his of fear.
Relationships and Spice: Although the focus of this book is primarily on the characters' internal struggles, it also does a good job handling their relationship. Family dynamics, betrayals, and priority shifts are all on display. For instance, we witness Corivina plotting her revenge and neglecting her family in their time of need, and we also get to see Karnelian's relations with his family. This book is spice-heavy.
Recommendation: First and foremost, anyone picking up this book should go through the trigger warnings, which are mentioned on the author's website and also at the start of the book. Anyone looking for a romantasy with twists who can handle spice and is okay with the warnings would enjoy reading this intricately plotted series.
Thank you so much Jewel Jeffers for the ARC of this book. This is my honest opinion.
Well after the way book 1 ended, I had no idea how things were going to pan out for Marie in this book.
Marie is basically a (barely) functioning drug addict for a lot of the story. And I get it. She lost her mate, her soul’s other half, and she feels like most of her died with him. Except she can’t intentionally die to join him because her parents made a deal with the devil to keep her alive.
The devil, Karnelian. The hybrid prince. I felt so bad for him. He was such a sweet and sensitive soul before he was betrayed. And how disgusting that almost everyone labelled him an abomination for something he could not control, when he was more powerful than probably everyone in both kingdoms!
He fell hard for Marie, and that terrified him because all she wanted was to die so she could be with Levi.
And yet she fell for Karnelian too because how could she not? He was so good to her and also provided all the sadomasochistic sexy times she could ever want.
I wondered the whole book if Corivina’s earlier statement was true, that Markos could have commissioned a witch to falsely bind Levi and Marie as mates. It never came up again after it was mentioned in the beginning but that doesn’t mean it might not be revealed in the next book!
Aside from our main couple, I honestly didn’t understand Corivina for so much of the book. I know she wants Markos dead. I know why. And I fully back all of that. But treating her family the way she did, assuming she could fix it 𝘭𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘳, as if all those decisions were hers and hers only to make. She came across as a selfish, self-centred, bitch for the most part and man did she piss me off.
A few little errors but as this was an ARC I’m hopeful these will be rectified before publishing…launch? Sale…
Jewel Jeffers has a way with words that suck you in and keep you asking for more. I'm absolutely destroyed by this book in the best possible way. I can not wait ’til the next book in the series is out. Which will be in 2024 😭
Things you’ll find:

✧ Please read TW before you dive in. ✧
This book continues where the last one left off. We see Marie grieving for her fated mate. While, her love ones try to help her coop with what’s happened. It was an emotional rollercoaster reading this. Marie starts to slowly gain color back in her world after it went away when her mate died.
I loved Levis and Maries story. Though, I have to say I enjoyed watching Karnelian’s and Marie’s story unfold more. Karnelian is the silver eyed devil who is able to thaw Marie’s frozen heart to make it beat again with deals, madness, and a little devilry. 😈 There was banter and heated moments that lead to really good spice.
Once again Jewel Jeffers does a great job of incorporating tough topic into her books. There’re mentions of grief, drug use, suicidal thoughts, trauma, and self-harm. For more content warnings check out authors page.
Ok, going into this book I was sceptical, especially after the ending of the last book. However, I LOVED IT!
I thought the introduction of new characters and their emotional interplay was sublime.
I particularly enjoyed different parts of the story being told from a different perspective using different timelines which helped us to build the bigger picture. Karnelian, oh Karnelian, such an excellently written character. Watching him emotionally develop throughout the book made my heart ache but it was so lovely to see, I appreciate how these books discuss loss and the darkness and the journey to find the light. It is a beautiful and harrowing thing to have as such a key part of the story and Jewel does this with so much respect and care.
This book was the sweetest form of torture, the ending being a huge part of this but I felt that it was the right level of tantalising for the next book which I am so excited to read!
I received an arc copy of this book and can confirm that these are my own opinions.
Read the trigger warnings! You will have issues with this book if you don't.
This review will contain spoilers!
So I struggled with Marie and her spiral out of control in a good way. I blame the author for that! She wrote the spiral and loss of self so well it was relatable on a visceral level😭 the depression and the drug use felt so real and raw. The author's writing style is developing as the series goes along. I would have liked a bit more world building, but that being said what was written was enough to form a good picture.
If you do not like spicy scenes this is not the book for you! Cause wow this book brings the 🌶️🔥🌶️🔥🌶️
Do read if you like: 💛 Spicy spice 💛 Madness 💛 Fae 💛 Magic 💛 Broken FMC 💛 Dark and Powerful MMC 💛 He falls hard 💛 Cliffhanger 💛 Multiple POV
Darkness. Mayhem. Sexy. That's how I would describe this book. Can't wait to see what awaits in the last book.
*Side note* CORIVINA!!
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Heart Cold As Gold is book 2 in the Fae of the Sun and Moon series. After her mate dies, Marie enters a depression and lives a shell of an existence. Forced to live a life she no longer wants, Marie strikes a deal with the Seelie King’s son, Karnelian, who is considered an abomination because he’s a hybrid. The two form an unlikely alliance amidst political divide and despair.
So we already know this story is tragic, as was the first book. I struggled with reading the first half simply because I was so sad for everybody! Obviously this was the intent so good job for making me feel things 😅
Corivina is just as awful as she was before. She’s so hellbent on revenge that she neglects her own family, though I feel like her character does progress by the end of the book (I hope).
And I’m sorry, but Levi who? The first book explored toxic mates, but this one is more about healing from trauma. Karnelian is yummy and I adore him.
I have loved reading this series so far and wish I didn’t have to wait til 2024 for the next book because again with the ENDING! 😫
Thank you so much to the author and Bound by Mischief Tour Co for the ARC!
The Fae of the Sun and Moon series has fast become one of my favourite fantasy series of 2023. Blood so Black was an unexpected treat and Heart Cold as Gold has continued to be an amazing read.
I love the world building, political intrigue, family relationships and the morally grey characters.
Going into this book I didn’t think I could see Marie with anybody after Levi. Nobody would be as good for her. But I have to admit I fell in love with Karnelian and the chemistry between these two is on fire.
This was gritty, intriguing and bloody brilliant. Jewel Jeffers continued the habit of leaving us with a suspenseful cliffhanger ending. I don’t know how I am going to wait until next year for the next instalment.
I was absolutely devastated by the ending of book one. I didn’t know how we could come back from that. I do feel like there needed to be a bit more progression in this book, however I thoroughly enjoyed seeing the characters develop. We learn so much about their pasts. It gives depth and insight into the reasons why they behave the way they do (usually badly).
I absolutely loved Karnelian, however he’s not giving me “devil” vibes, probably seeing his character and feelings develop so much I just don’t see it. Devil in the bedroom, agreed. But “the devil” not so much.
Marie I found quite frustrating in places. I really hope she gets her shit together now we know she’s got someone to heal her heart. Although seeing how this book ended, probably not. She’s really going through the mill!
Onto book 3. What on earth can happen next!!!

This was sooo good!! One of my most anticipated read of the year ! I remember getting the ARC and excited but without spoiling the first part had me feeling guilty and was though to get through BUT once your get more into it you zoom through ! And it just gets better from there ! 😭🙌🏼 every second was amazing! Is kinda bad on my part but I throughly enjoyed this book more than first one 🫣 the vibes were just spot on ! (Maybe I just love a trope that is in here 🤭) Also I loved the unique approach Jewel took on mates never read anything like this 🥹 everything was PERFECT! Can’t wait for book 3 ! I need to see how this ends !
WOW! These books hooked me right from the start. I am so excited for the third book! I haven't read much dark romance, but I enjoyed this so much. I did read the trigger warnings before starting the books though, and they definitely prepared me for some soul crushing parts.
The books are character focused, yet they have a captivating plot and magic system. There were plot twists I never saw coming and huge cliffhangers to leave you wanting more. The acknowledgement also made me laugh a little
One bed trope Touch her and you're ☠️ Sub/dom relationship Morally grey He falls first

I had some family stuff happened that threw me into a huge reading slump. I could not concentrate even when I tried forcing it, or even doing timed reads, pretty much anything I tried I could not get out of it. After awhile I finally got a day to myself to block everything out and decided to try and break the slump again when I picked this book back up.
I am absolutely in love with this book! I could not get enough of it. Jewel Jeffers did an amazing job with this and I already want to go back and reread it. It was emotional, raw, and had me on the edge of my seat I ended up devouring the rest without getting up form my chair!
This was a great book. Tragic, but not as tragic as the last one. Sad, but also bittersweet. I love Nelian and am happy for Corivina (until the end) I also loved Fredrick and his carefree attitude. I thought the characters were frustrating at times, never accepting their feelings until the last minute. I know a lot of them have emotional trauma, but how could you not realize someone is in love with you?? So overall a really good book, but it does get frustrating. I liked it better than the first .
I flew through this book because I was as so excited to see what happened. The character development, twists, and sweet moments really make this book what it is. Jewel is amazing at writing raw emotion, true growth, and of course, SPICE. These characters are so easy to love and get attached to, and I cannot wait to get my hands on the next book to find out what happens after that insane cliffhanger!!
This didn't grip me as much as the first. I appreciate the FMC arch, but I wanted more. I want to punch the raven in the throat, how can you be hundreds of years old and still such a selfish idiot? The ending may have been the best part. Obviously I need to read the third and final book, now, but apparently I need to read a prequel novella first which leaves me irritated
This book ripped my heart apart, put it back together, and then sent shock waves through it all over again. The cliffhangers of these books are top notch, and so frustrating at the same time. Jewel killed it with this second book, and I NEED the next book immediately to see what happens! I loved it, it's so good, I highly recommend this series so far!
Communication is key in relationships, however, so many people who are in one do not. Although Marie us healing she does not speak her mind. Corivina holds everything in and Nelian...is just plane afraid to voice or believe what he know to be true. Looking forward to reading the final book.
