Difficulty Level: Beginner
No background in shamanism necessary.

Pros:
- It's a good intro to soul retrieval.
It tells you what soul retrieval is, some ways to prevent doing damage to your energy body, and some ways to heal your energetic wounds a little bit on your own.

Cons:
- No ebook or paperback version; this only comes as an audiobook.
When I listen to an audiobook, I don't remember the information for very long, and it's too hard to find the information because you can't search for keywords or bookmark pages, like you would in an ebook.

- It doesn't tell you how to perform a soul retrieval.
I understand that soul retrieval is an advanced magickal technique that beginners wouldn't be practicing, but for a book on soul retrieval I would expect more exercises for preparing yourself for performing soul retrieval at a later point.

The reason the book doesn't contain soul retrieval rituals is probably because it's an audiobook. When you see rituals in ebooks or paperback books, they're full of things to read aloud (ex. chants) when performing the ritual.

- Ingerman has a negative view of psychic vampirism.
She posits that shamen would consider psychic vampirism invasive; but then she recommends what I would argue is a much more invasive 'healing' practice in response, in order to snatch back your life-force energy. She could just put up psychic shields instead, and leave vampires alone.

Personal Note: Her voice sounds like Kamala Harris, so, to make the book more interesting, pretend Kamala Harris is narrating it.

This is less of an in-depth primer about soul retrieval and more of an introduction in a fairly conversational format. It covers reasons you might have to do a soul retrieval, a few different varieties of soul retrieval, and the general process the author goes through to perform a soul retrieval. I think it would help to have learned a bit about shamanism before reading this, because it doesn't go into a great deal of detail about some of the foundational concepts like the different worlds. This is perhaps better as a second book about shamanism that tells you a bit more about how to actually do some of the things and why you would do one instead of the other. It's not long or deeply entailed, but I learned some good things from it just the same.

A simple and comprehensive introduction to the work of shamanic healing. Finished in an afternoon. Wish I had read her works earlier - definitely answered a lot of questions I didn’t know who/ how to ask. Now I have a better picture of how shamans and their clients navigate the invisible realm, shamanic views on illnesses and death, role of power animals etc.

Wonderful look at using soul retrieval in shamanic work. Set up in a way that makes sense and now I'm more interested in reading more from Sandra.

This was a very interesting read about Shamanic practice. It relies heavily on sharing a belief in Shamanism and its practices and will offer little in the way of assurance for skeptics. I found myself drawing parallels in the message being given and the message of other ideologies.
