The holidays are coming closer and Jayd has her new car. It's not a Cadillac but it is good enough for her. Meanwhile, Mickey is having some baby drama and Jayd is trying her hardest to stay out of it. Sandy, Rah's baby mama is being as nasty as she can toward Jayd cause she is always with Rah, and Rahmina.
I can make a text to world connection. There are a lot of teenage pregnancies, and when Tre, Rah, and Nigel get into a gun fight Jayd is really ticked off, Nigel gets shot in the arm and is going to spend some time in jail. But Mickey doesn't know if it is really his baby.
I gave this book 5 stars.I love this series. L. Divine is a really good Author and she really captures your mind. She can really write a good book and I hope she continues with the Drama High Series.

Keep It Movin
It starts with Rah leaving Jayd wondering when will it finally be enough as he stands her up for the umpteenth time for a date because he has to go meet up with Sandy. Rah missed out on Thanksgiving to be with Trish and her brother. Now he’s missing out on dinner at her grandmother’s. Jeremy invites her to hang out with him and his surf friends (even though she just saw him). She invites him to dinner and tells him they can hang out with his friends afterward. Jayd just hopes Jeremy won’t take this as a sign that they’re about to get back together. This is just a friend thing.

As the introductions are made of Lynn’s brothers and father to her new man Karl, Jayd notices Misty going into Esmeralda’s house. She and her mother will be spending the holiday there. Mama notices the new dress Jayd is wearing and asks about it. Jayd says it's her mother's. Her mother says she got it from a thrift store and that it was a present to Jayd (a lie). Jayd’s grandma keeps looking at it like “I know that dress.” Jayd and her grandmother are pulled into a vision in the past of her great-grandmother with a knife to her husband's throat. She tells him she wants out (and cuts him to emphasize this). He accuses her of the white man giving her more than just gifts and he tosses a red, silk, dress, and diamond necklace at her. It’s the dress Jayd is currently wearing. Great-grandma is about go get choked out by her man as the argument about her grandmother, Then her new man arrives. This is where the vision ends. Her grandma tells her it’s up to her to find out why the dress came back to her. Jayd’s mother and her grandmother both warn her that bringing Jeremy might have repercussions with Rah. After all, she saw what happened in the vision, but Jayd is so stupid over Rah she can’t see it. Rah does show up (I wouldn’t be surprised if Bryon didn’t text him). He claims he felt bad, Jayd says he can’t get mad that she mad other plans after he stood her up to be with his ex. He says it’s different. She has his baby. She asks where she even stands and this shuts him up. Thankfully her grandmother says they’re about to eat. Rah leaves but tells her *this* isn’t over and he’ll talk to her later (rolls eyes).

On the way to the beach party, Jeremy questions Jayd about Rah. She just brushes it off. Then he brings up Chance’s present (the framed program). It’s clear he’s jealous so Jayd tells him he needs to trust her. Jayd watches the waves with Justin’s girl as Jeremy and Justin surf. After a while, Jayd is ready to go home to get ready for the next day of spending Christmas with her dad. As they leave, Reid, Laura, and Nellie arrive. Nellie and Jayd exchange snipes at each other and the bottom line is Jayd has something in store for her for selling out her and M ickey when they get back to school. In the car, Jayd reveals to Jeremy Nellie is a virgin. Jayd tells Jeremy Nellie is now on her own, but her mom in her head tells her it's her responsibility as Nellie’s friend to let her know if those girls she's hanging with mean her harm. Jayd disagrees but agrees to go along with her mother's advice. But for now, she’ll stay in the moment with Jeremy.

At her relatives' house on her dad's side, same drama. They all have negative ish to say about her mama. Then her dad surprises Jayd with a car. Only it is one she told him she hated. Faye then questions Jayds decision to do hair which is the icing on the cake. Rah texts and this is just the excuse Jayd needs to leave. Rah pulls up with Rahima and Jayd trails them to his house. He has the AUDACITY to bring i[ up Jeremy again and get pissy over it. Rah’s mom (Carla) shows up to get a sack from Rah so she can head off to work at the strip joint. She tells Jayd she shouldn’t get to use to playing house with Rahima. She kinda hints she’s not because Rahima might not be his.

Jayd has a nightmare that she’s suspended in midair while Rah and Jeremy are fighting over her and holding on to her. Eventually, they let go and she starts to fall with Rahima on her back. There’s a rope above her but she can’t quite reach it. She hears her mother’s voice telling her to let go of Rahima so she can grab the rope. Only Jayd doesn’t want to let go. Sandy is also there yelling of her to let go of her baby. Jayd lets go and crashes to the ground. Rah is voicing his disappointment. Then she wakes up. Jeremy wakes Jayd up from her nightmare to ask if she’d like to hang with that night and watch a movie and order pizza and she says yes (while noticing her gift on the table from Rah). Rah’s gift to Jayd is a new cell phone. She’s taking pictures of him and his daughter when Sandy shows up early Sandy tries to give Jayd a lesson on what won’t keep Rah and her mama says leave this situation alone. It can only cause pain. Sandy eventually leaves and Rah makes Jayd breakfast before he takes her to work. He tells her his attorney says he has a good chance of winning custody (with some luck). Jayd agrees to try a recipe she saw. Jayd tells Mama about her dream and about losing some change so she takes her after work to open a bank account (messing up her plans). Mama agrees to help Jayd with the brownie potion. She’s shocked to find out how much Mama has in her account. Jeremy gives Jayd a warm jacket that’s atleast 200.99, Her mom advises her to keep it and don’t even think of feeling guilty.

At the mall, Jayd and Mickey discuss New Years plans. Mickey wants to hang out with Nigel but knows she won’t be welcomed at church (his parents are making him attend). She has this fantasy that after the baby is born they’ll fall in love with her and let her shack up at their place. Jayd finds out this has been her plan all along to get out her own house. She tried with her man and had two miscarriages. But she straight up tells her the Esops will never accept her because she’s from “the hood”. They moved from the hood for a reason, but Mickey still refuses to accept this. Rah and Jayd get into it again over Jeremy. He does pay to have her phone activated but he says anything past that get her boy toy to pay for. Her car breaks down on another day. He picks her up. They argue again at her house. Jayd wants to spend the day alone. Rah thinks she wants to spend it with Jeremy. Rah wants her to bring in the New Year with him, but Mama tells her to stay put so Rah leaves an tells her to make a wish for him. She decides to make one for her girls too.

The day before they start school, Jayd tries to get Mickey to fight because the administration is trying to suspend her from Drama High. Mickey just doesn’t seem to care if she gets kicked out of school. At school, they clown Jayds ride, but later Chance offers to pimp it out. Jayd turns it down tho. Mickey and Nellie get into it in the hallway. Jayd interferes and says they’ll be there when she realises her friends aren’t for her. Mickey says that’s just Jayd. They both find out that Laura and Nellie have become born-again Christians. Nellie says she’ll be there for Mickey when *she* wants to repent. Jeremy changes his report and Jayd gets pissed that he always thinks he has to save her, Since Maggie wants her hair braided and offers a new perspective of a friend and clientele Jayde decides to keep it moving without Nellie and Mickey. Jayd finds out at work from her grandmother that Misty and her mother are now a part of Esmeralda’s spiritual house and are considered her grandchildren (the only family she has). Jayd almost knocks over a rooster and Netta says that with the negative energy it took to knock it over, she’ll have to be cleansed or she’ll be paralyzed by the end of the week. Jayd is surprised to find out that her worst enemy isn’t Nellie or Misty. She’ll need to make to perform a cleaning ritual (and they tell her what to do). Jeremy helps her find a freshwater spot. Jayd has trouble making the jar s]ink at first, but her mom instructs her to throw it. Hopefully, it will get whatever it is of her.

Since the administration has no proof they say the investigation will continue. Nigel is still able to play and stay at the school. Mickey will be going to another school. Nigel is pissed and walks out. HE didn’t know about Mickey. They go at it and Jayd gives them their privacy. But she’s able to hear the show later. Mickey also learns Nigel’s parents want them to give the baby up for adoption. The day ends with Mmickey seeing Nellie and going to kick her behind. After school, Jayd and Rah hang out after he gives her flowers and pays her phone bill. Only to find out he wants her to lie to the judge and say she’s his steady girlfriend because she’s the best candidate. Jayd walks out but isn’t sure she wants to call it quits. Mama says Rah’s just scared of losing his daughter and too forgive him.

Jayd gets off the phone with her dad who won’t help her get her car fixed (She has to leave hers at Rah’s so he and Nigel can work on it) when Mickey’s man pulls up to harass her again. Jayd says she’s not telling him shit. He grabs her and makes a move like he’s going to kiss her. Jayd threatens to yell for her family but this doesn’t intimidate him. He tells her to tell Nigel his days or numbered. As for her, she’ll make this up to him by braiding his hair (among other things).

Jayd does decide to go to the hearing. They give Sandy and Rah joint custody. Sandy tells Jayd she’s not going anywhere. Jayd tells Sandy *she’s* not going anywhere. Mickey’s man rolls up and Trey blocks Nigel from getting shot and doesn’t make it. Nigel gets hit and loses blood. They find out he really is the father. The bullet is removed but his arm is damaged. Mickey is banned from seeing him but his parents. Jayd tells Mickey off. Mickey’s grieving over the possible loss of his career. But Jayd is done with Mickey. Sandy shows up one day on the bus to get Rahima. Because Rah gives her the key to work on her car to get rid of Sandy she gives Sandy the keys. Later, Sandy takes advantage of this takes Rah’s car, and leaves out of town with Rahima. Jsyd leaves the broke down car at her dad’s house. Her mom says she can have her car. Karl gave her a new one for Xmas.

My Thoughts
One of the questions is if it’s a good idea for Jayd to get close to Rahima. I’m not so sure. I only see just in this situation. Maybe this won’t happen but what if Raheema isn’t Rah’s? His mother kind of hinted at this as why she’s not trying to get close to her and to me that was a BIG HINT! But I actually know someone who dated this guy who had a little girl, broke up with him, and then remained even to this day in her life so it could work out but I really don’t see Sandy letting it. The difference in that situation is the mother (as I know it) walked away or either wasn’t in the picture.

Another was (was) fair to ask Mickey to leave. That one threw me.loop. I didn’t even remember in a previous book where they said they were going to put her in another school so this came from out of nowhere. I guess it's because pregnant girls went to my high school all the time. There wasn’t a special school to put them in. To me, it just seemed like an everyday thing to see one. You can’t tell me Mickey was the only girl in this whole school who got pregnant. So yeah, this was strange to me.

One question asks if Jayd was ungrateful about her dad’s present. No. In a father’s mind, I can see how they wouldn’t want to get their daughter the most expensive car for a first car. Either for practical reasons or they’re just cheap. But he could have gotten her a decent-looking car that WORKED! For that reason, I thought her reaction was perfectly justified. The thing broke down 3 or 4 times in the book! He didn’t have to get her the one she hated. They could have went to the car lot and found one they *both* thought would be reasonable.

Another question asked if Rah was right to ask Jayd to stand up with him. I just don’t like the *way* Rah did it. In fact, Rah puts Jayd second all the time and then is quick to say that’s my baby mama but when he needs her to get his daughter back he wants *her* to act like she’s his girl. But he can’t just make her his girl and he really hasn’t cut Trish loose. So, yes. Normally I think Jayd over reacts A LOT but in this case, I really can’t say I blamed her for going off. (Not that it did any good).

There was a question that asked should Jayd have accepted Jeremy’s gift. I didn’t have a problem with Jeremy giving Jayd gifts when they were together. I’m not sure as *friends*. Jeremy clearly wants Jayd to get back with him. If she’s accepting his gifts and she doesn’t have any plans of this. then she shouldn’t and it feels like she’s leading him on and giving him false hope.

It asks is Mickey to blame for the shooting. ABSOLUTELY! Mickey didn’t handle her ish. She cheated on her man, got knocked up, then let the relationship continue. If she’d decided Nigel was the man then I don’t understand why she didn’t just try to call it off with the crazy one. Well, I guess because he’s bat-ish CRAZY. Still, she caused ALL THIS! Jayd was right to walk away from her AND Nellie.

Trying mange school, friendships, family, relationship, and the start of your career can be quite overwhelming for a young teenage, but lucky for Jayd she doesn’t let the drama stop her from pursuing her destiny. “Drama High: Keep It Movin”, which is apart of a series, written by L. Divine. The genre of the novel is drama.

“Drama high: Keep It Movin” takes place in modern-day Los Angeles in Compton, California. Other settings that scenes took place were at school and Mama Lynn Mae’s house. The main characters of the book are Jayd, Mickey, Rah, and Jeremy. Jayd is a sassy teenager with conjure powers that she uses to sort out all of her problems; both supernatural and practical problems.Mickey is Jayd’s gangster homegirl who has her own issues and responsibilities that she now has to deal with, such as her being a pregnant teenager, her unborn’s father being imprisoned, and trying to seek a father for her child in Nigel. Jeremy is Jayd’s first white ex-boyfriend who happens to be the most popular guy at South Bay High School. He is rich, tall, and extremely handsome, with a witty personality to top off all his good qualities literally keeps Jayd on her toes. Rah is Jayd’s first love who was reentered Jayd’s life when a mutual friend, Nigel, transfers from Rah’s high school. He knows everything about Jayd and is her spiritual confidant, but he has baby-mama drama and stalker ex-girlfriend who just don’t want to let go.

The book begins with Jayd getting ready for her family’s annual Christmas dinner party at her grandma Mama Lynn Mae’s house. Jayd invites her ex-boyfriend Jeremy because her on/off ex-boyfriend Rah flakes on her because he has daddy duties. Mickey finds out she is pregnant and tries to convince Nigel (Mickey’s current boyfriend) that he is the father, but really it's Mickey’s Man (doesn’t have a name) who is locked up. Rah goes to court for Rahima against his baby mama Sandy; undoubtedly Rah won joint custody of his little girl! Jayd loses one of her old friends, and Mickey is to blame for it. Next Tre, Nigel, and Mickey’s Man all take a bullet in the shootout at Mickey’s house between Rah, Tre, Nigel, and Mickey’s man. Sadly Tre doesn’t make it like the other two did. Jayd's dad gives her the gift of a car; consequently the car is undependable, so Jayd returns the gift back. Lucky her mom tells her “By the way, Karl said I can roll the Camry and you can roll in my ride indefinitely. So, you’re not alone. The car is yours to keep for as long as you need it, baby.”

My opinion of the book is relatable to young teenage girls of ages 14-19. I think it’s a good read for people who like juicy drama of young high school students that deal with friendship, relationship, and family obstacles in life. The book is realistic to girls because, they too are experiencing some of the same situations as Mickey and Jayd.

I thought it was a very interesting book. Especially the beginning of the story. The part where they were at dinner was the most intense part for me. Because Mama was meeting her daughters (Jayd's mom) boyfriend for the first time. Jayd had brought over her white friend for mama to meet. Then all of a sudden, things get serious when Mama is held at hostage. That was probably my favorite part of the book.

I think it could have been more intenser throughout the book, just instead of bits and pieces. That is why I gave it a 3/5 stars. I feel as though towards the middle to the end, then I start getting confused by what is happening. Like I feel the end of the book didnt make much sense because everything was happening at one time. The whole book, especially the beginning to early middle was really dramatic; which I liked. Then towards the end, it got confusing. I think the book is very well written, but towards the end, it could be a bit better.

The greatest strength's of this book, I think would be the writing style. The story is written very well. This is the eighth book of the series. Although I didnt read the first seven, I know they have to be similarly written to Keep It Movin'. The weakness of this book would have to be the ending. It doesnt seem like the ending fit the story line.

The intended audience of the book would most likely be teenagers to young adult. This provides a scenario on which most teenagers can relate too. It could have a lasting effect, but it also could not having lasting affect. Most teenagers can relate to it as most go through this type of problem. I would recommend this book to anyone that likes drama books. If you like comedy or suspense books, I would not recommend this book to you. It doesnt have any comedy and any suspense. This book, most likely along with the series is mostly drama filled.

This book was a very different type of book for me. It was more drama filled, than comedy filled. Im not really into the drama books, but I decided to give this one a try. The storyline is very intense, but not like today's reality TV shows. Overall, this is a pretty decent read!

Dear Ms. L.Divine,
I love the book keep it movin’. Jayd Jackson and I are just alike. I love her spunky attitude. Drama high series is like the best series I know. Ive been reading this series since the ending of 7th grade. One thing I also like is that is that I can relate. I also like that the characters are like real people. Another thing I like is that the mother can communicate with jayd using telepathy. My mom and I cant do that but she can easily finish my sentences. Keep writing!
Sincerely, Anaizhje Thomas
Jayd Jackson is a spunky sixteen year old girl. She just got a car for Christmas that is really a piece of junk. Rah and Jeremy are getting on her last nerve. Mostly rah though. This book has great dialogue. This book is also very realistic. The places in the book are real too.
One issue that has stuck with me since I read the book is that when jayd and her grandmother had a flashback. That image just gives me the chills. But I still love these books.
This book changed the way I look at the world. It changed it because a lot of people are different. Sometimes I have to realize that not everything is all about me.

Excellent book. It always reminds you that you can move on, ignore the haters live life and always get your grind on. I love reading this series, a lot more books to go. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a very good humor, romance, spells, power all in once. It also includes some Yoruba which I enjoy a lot. Mama and Jayd have a very strong relationship. When a girl has guys to choose from, she takes a very big and stron choice and chooses the right man. A broken old car can only take Jayd so far...

Jayd's making money from braiding hair and we all know about the crazy car her father got. What's up with that? Dealing with Rah's drama is just too much. Sandy is crazy and needs to let him take care of that poor baby. It was an over all great read. Love L. Divine.
