Studying hard for his exams, Wataru, trying to be accepted into college so he can live with Yuichi in spring. But on the day of his exam, Yuichi decides to leave for New York to be with his old lover for his surgery. Wataru tries to be supportive and sends him off but he can't help himself being insecure. While waiting for his return, Asaka makes a move and offers his kindness to ease his feelings.
First off, the grammar and spelling was so much better in this book! Still some mistakes, but so much better. Also, the binding of the book is not as stiff, so it is more like a normal paperback, with thinner pages. In addition, I just realized how long the characters' necks are. A little bizarre at times.
The storyline continues to focus on Wataru's worries as he is first going through his exams and then as the situation with Masanobu seems to be getting out of control, especially with the addition of Masanobu's little brother with a brother complex, Masa'aki. The story is good, with one heck of a cliffhanger ending, I must admit. I am anxiously awaiting the next book in the series.
The only major criticism that I have for this book is the fact that when Wataru is usually thinking of someone, they always either appear suddenly, call him, or text him. It got to a somewhat ridiculous point in the second story in the book, and quite unrealistic. But putting that aside, it was a wonderful addition to the series.
Finally found a digital copy after another unsuccessful attempt to buy this anywhere other than through a $200 eBay scalper.
Anyway. This series continues to be terrible.
I don't know why I still have the capacity to be disappointed by it, but I was.
Unfortunately, Wataru wasn't actually torn between Yuichi and Masanobu, despite the promising setup, and Yuichi jetting off to New York and abandoning him for basically the entire book.
But that whole New York thing is...so stupid. First of all, it's obvious that Kannagi just made up the situation with this woman long after writing Yuichi's "strictly speaking, you're the first person I've slept with" line. Because the entire scenario, as it's been written now, makes no sense. Strictly speaking he never even dated this girl, who was his older brother's ex and someone he had an unrequited crush on when he was in middle school. She sends him generic Christmas cards and he hasn't spoken to her at all in years.
And now, for some completely unfathomable reason, he's staying with her in New York for a month+ while she has heart surgery, because her ex-boyfriend's little brother is the person she wants most by her side during this time.
I.
What.
I'm not even talking about the age gap or anything like that, just the sheer ridiculousness of them not having any connection to justify this trip. Kannagi just needed an excuse to get Yuichi out of the picture for a bit to build some more drama, but even that doesn't work, because Wataru spends all his time on an annoying loop of: "i love Yuichi soooooooo much and everything he does is perfect and forgivable and it doesn't matter that he never explains ANYTHING to me i'm sure it's my fault and he is wonderful and i love him even though Masanobu is way nicer and I rely on him in a way I never do with Yuichi because Yuichi is deeply unkind to me at every turn but i could NEVER love Masanobu, Yuichi is the love of my life and that will never change."
I hate this relationship so much.
Masanobu continues to deserve better, even though he kisses Wataru again at the end of this volume...probably just so readers don't FULLY see him as the better option. Kannagi even admits in the end notes that all her readers think she has a Masanobu bias. Have you finally realized you're writing a side character significantly better than the primary love interest?? Who sucks??
Even Masanobu doesn't get much to work with in this volume, though, and I feel bad that he's just getting dragged around by all the other characters: Wataru, Shohei, his own little brother, who hates Wataru (quite reasonably) for stringing his big brother along without ever intending to actually date him.
I agree. At this point Wataru's being a jerk. But so is Yuichi. So I've lost pretty much all interest in BOTH of them.
By the end of this book, Yuichi is mysteriously staying in New York longer while refusing to tell Wataru why...Masanobu has accidentally stolen Wataru's ring while kissing him...and Yuichi has mailed his own ring back to Wataru, which is probably NOT to break up, but frick I wish it was.
The best scene in this book was Masanobu crying, even though Wataru doesn't deserve his tears. (It's also apparent that Kannagi is cursing herself for giving Shohei a wife and a child, or else she obviously would've written those two as the side pairing.) Ridiculously not thought out plotting. At least it's ending in one more volume, which I guess I'll read.

I completely love this book. It is amazing read. On that i could not put down. I had times were i find myself embaressed, laughing, smiling, or even a little in tears. That is the first for me. Just shows how awesome this book can be.
I love the relationship between Wataru and Yuichi. Although im a bit nervous to find out whats gonna happen to them with the way the book ended. Oh please dont break my heart with the next book that i will end up reading.
Ahhh! i really love this pieces since wataru already make his mind that only yuichi in his life not Asaka! And i hate Shohei (Yuichi's older brother) he is such a manipulative person! >___<
And to think that the fifth novel would be the last of this series.... Boy, do I have a fist clenching around my heart when Wataru got Kazuki's ring sent to him.
