Jennifer Guttman

Dr. Jennifer Guttman received her doctorate in clinical psychology from Long Island University. She began her career working at a family homeless shelter in New York. When she found that traditional protocols made it difficult for people to access her services, she fought to ensure that every resident could meet with her as often as they needed, eagerly working day and night to fulfill requests for services.

Motivated by a desire to reach even more people, she started lecturing and opened a private practice. Her approach fuses traditional cognitive-behavioral therapy techniques with her own core methods, which have been developed and refined through thirty-plus years of personal interaction with her clients. The combination of these innovative methods and her unparalleled empathic abilities has enabled her to have a profound impact on thousands of patients from diverse walks of life.

Over the past five years Dr. Guttman has launched a motivational brand platform Sustainable Life Satisfaction® with four SLS® YouTube web series which have cumulatively netted over two million views and published a workbook with the same title.

She is a regular contributor to Psychology Today, Thrive Global, MindBodyGreen, and written in articles for the Washington Post, NBC.com, Readers Digest, Redbook, Health, TeenVogue, among others. Listened to this one, not a bad piece of work. The key thought for me was that “content” or being at peace with yourself and surroundings are better to strive for than any ecstatic joy or happiness. These are ultimately more attainable and longer lasting.

Raise your hand if you want to be happy, content, and satisfied with all aspects of your life. I certainly do! This book came at the right time in my life when stresses at work and anxieties seem to be taking over distracting from a life worth living. I love reading about relatable stories and not a quick fix read. There are a lot of thought provoking exercises that helps with self doubt, life balance, and learning to love oneself. Highly recommend read for everyone.

My thoughts: This book was in my Audible library, and I discovered it was going to expire in the Included catalog in 9 hours, so I spent my night reading this book. It was a very good read, and I am saddened to know I can't reread it without using a credit or paying $10-$28. One of the best books I've read on the topic, better than Atomic Habits, as this book focuses on that too.

Recommend to others?: Absolutely!

I was lucky to receive this book through Giveaways! Thank you so Post Hill Press! Dr. Guttman lays out a 6 step process to achieve satisfaction in life that are broken down into great manageable pieces. Finding ones own truth and meaning in life is key to her message. A great book!

First of all, this isn’t a book that I felt can be read in one sitting. This is one that needs time for digestion, reflection, and note taking.

Dr. Guttman, a mental health professional, shares with us a concept called Sustainable Life Satisfaction. Let each of those three words sit for a few separately and then think how the phrase could apply to your life.

There are 6 techniques for this concept that Dr. Guttman has actually used in her life as she faced her son’s health issues, her own health scare, and the passing of her father.

I like this book because Dr. Guttman uses examples not only from her own life but also from her clients that clearly illustrate the 6 techniques.

I think the idea of using this philosophy for myself so I can move toward a life of contentment in both easy and hard chapters.

Beyond Happiness by Jennifer Guttman is a great self-help book.
The concept of the book is Sustainable Life Satisfaction.
That was something I had to mull over for a bit as I thought about it.
What things can I do that will be sustainable? As someone that suffers with severe anxiety I was looking forward to the author's techniques.

There are 6 techniques, in which she provided good examples from her own life.
What the author said about her health scare and grief resonated with me as I am a cancer survivor and the relationship between mental health and physical health is well addressed.

This is not a book to read once, but to read many times over and over again.

Thank you to the author for you insight and honesty.

I enjoyed listening to the audio book version of this. I'm hoping to get a paper copy of this as well to refer back to.

As a self-empowerment coach, the fundamentals of what it really means to be happy and authentic are extremely important to me.

When we learn to let go of all expectations, we learn to look at ourselves from a whole new perspective, taking off the lens of the reality we once thought was true about ourselves and the world around us.

This book is a great little guidebook for finding peace and contentment wherever you are in life. As an adult with ADHD I found several chapters particularly helpful with organization and planning. The six techniques at the end are short and sweet reminders that I will refer to often. This a book that you'll want to keep on your nightstand and read over and over again.

I always appreciate a practical approach so this book really resonated with me. Resilience has long been a trait that I’ve admired and the concept of defiant resilience really spoke to me. Anyone could benefit from this book whether this is a challenging time in your life or not. The six core techniques are things that I have taken to heart and will continue to practice.

Really enjoyed this book! It was a quick read, but packed with so many important reminders in how to find satisfaction in life. Guttman provides relatable stories, and writes in a clear and concise manner. This is one I will be reading again periodically as it has many good reminders.

This was a goodreads win. It is described as a psychologist's six-step roadmap to a life beyond happiness. A life of sustainable lifetime satisfaction. You may like the book but I found it to be boring and that I had more satisfying things to do with my time. I started reading it August 2023 and didn't finish it until now.

Very good piece, may not be anything you haven't heard before, but sometimes you need to be reminded of these things. Great use of real world examples.

I really enjoyed this book. With my life going through changes some welcomed most not it was a good distraction and perhaps a fresh look. This my not be for everyone but I liked it!

Beyond Happiness posits that happiness is nice but ultimately setting us up for sadness if we expect that life can ever be all happiness all the time. Instead, the author argues that contentment is the ticket-a sustainable, and achievable, goal which can take you on a far more meaningful and rewarding journey. This was an interesting read for anyone who wants to learn more about the science behind happiness, and why focusing on this as a goal is not enough to live the life of your dreams.

There are fantastic takeaways in Beyond Happiness which I am happy to say are easy to remember with the goal of applying them to my days.
A primary one for me was - don’t assume- I can think I am a mind reader and thus make incorrect interpretations- Guttman’s book reminds me not to do this!
Another huge takeaway for me personally was taking a close look at people pleasing habits I have. There is so much more in this book and what others glean from this may differ from mine but all is beneficial and an affordable form of self-help!! I’m thankful Jennifer is on Instagram as I follow her for reminders on what I learned.

In this self improvement book Dr. Guttman gives us a unique strategy and the techniques needed to help us gain power over our life. Recognizing our habits and overcoming our behaviors, face our fears and find happiness. It taught be quite a bit and it was was easy to digest and not overwhelming. A great guide to help you achieve happiness and take control of your life. I think everyone will benefit from using these steps.
