I didn't mean to mess up my afterlife. It just...happened.I didn’t expect to die at sixteen. (Stupid garbage truck.) And now I’m in some strange place they call the Inbetween, and Aiden, my slacker guardian angel who let me die, is teaching me the ways of the afterlife. He’s not very good at it. He doesn’t like being stuck with me, he sucks at teaching, and he’s always running off, so I’m left to bumble through things by myself a lot. I get assigned to be a guardian angel to Tyler, the hottest guy in school, which is weird because I’ve never been in the cool crowd. Now I’m hanging out with the popular kids. They can’t see me, but who cares. It’s kind of fun learning all their gossip. Until my angel tablet tells me Tyler’s going to die, and it’s my job to save him. If that’s not bad enough, I start to develop a massive crush on Tyler, which is against the angel rules. Angels can’t fall in love. Then I suddenly become visible to Tyler, and everything falls apart.
I've read and watched a few different offerings of books/movies about the main character dying, becoming an angel and falling in love. I've always enjoyed this trope and liked seeing how the authors were able to make it all connect and work.
This book was so darling! The characters were well developed and I enjoyed diving into their backstories. Gabriella's story was pretty sad and then she died. I was like "NOOOOO!!!!" But of course if she didn't die then the book wouldn't be what it is. I have to say, she was such a great angel. She has such a sweet and good personality. I loved her gaining a greater understanding about things she only thought she knew. And the understanding she brought to others.
Of course there is that Tyler kid, the one she is supposed to watch and be his guardian angel. She definitely makes some mistakes and messes up a few things but it's pretty darling and humorous. I was laughing out loud and anxiously awaiting to find out what she was going to do next and if she was going to figure out what was happening and if Tyler would be ok.
My teens would love this story and I enjoyed it as well. So, definitely one I'd recommend for teens and up. It's clean, it's fun, it's humorous, it has a sweet and tender love story! Definite win in my book!!!
Content: Clean. Talk about death, angels, afterlife, war between good and evil.
I received a copy from the author. All thoughts and opinions in the review are my own.
*This book is also available to listen to for free on the YouTube channel under the author's other pen name- Victorine Lieske.)
I thought this was a cute story about Heaven and Hell and the Inbetween. The characters were surprisingly well fleshed out, so to speak.
For a YA book, issues such as the duality of right and wrong were experienced quite vividly. I appreciated the care the author put into character development.
I gave it a three star rating because it's only the first book in the series and I'd like to see how everything developes. A good, quick and fun read.
Huh. Kindle Vella authors sure know how to write an engrossing story. Like, seriously, I think I flew through the first half of the book, especially after deciding to try the first 5 chapters sample in the author's YouTube channel. Let me tell you, big mistake. I was hooked and thus needed to know how Gabriella's story continued. This is definitely an interesting take on the angels and demons YA world, especially with how Gabriella is just thrust into it. Aiden's reluctant help was fitting, but leaving Gabriella clueless didn't seem like a smart move. Oh well, it made for an interesting learning curve for her in her Guardian Angel duties, and seeing her interactions with Tyler was both funny and sweet. I don't know why I thought everything was going to be smooth riding and "fluffy" (maybe it was the cover...?) but in the end, there were parts that I liked as well as didn't from how the story turned out to be. What I liked was that Gabriella is definitely not a perfect character, and thanks to her HS experience, can be judgy of the others. Still, and even though minor, I think, I liked the redemptive thread for her actions. What did throw me off, and it was mainly in the second half of the book, was all the back and forth of what exactly is Lucas. At times he was funny, but at times it could be kinda creepy. Though, speaking of creepy, Cyrus definitely took the cake. It made me uncomfortable to the point of dreading the next scene with him, thanks to how he affected Gabriella, but I think that means the author was especially good in her descriptions and writing skills.
Overall, this is an interesting YA Paranormal Romance, with a (cozy) mystery thread woven through it (thanks to all the murder attempts and actual murders that happen throughout the book. Nothing gory), while also dealing with the themes of losing one's parents and bullying. While there's some resolution, it ends in a cliffhanger, so I *think * I'll pick up the next one, but we'll see. ~ 4 stars
Gabrielle is having a bad day and to make it worse she is killed in an accident when her absent Guardian Angel was supposed to be there to protect her.
She is now trying to figure out what this new in between world is all about when she is told she’ll be the Guardian Angel to one of the most popular boys in her high school. She learns all kinds of things including that someone is trying to kill her charge.
This was a fun book to read with a witty look at the afterlife. It was a nice break from more serious books and I was caught up in the story. It’s easy to relate to Gabrielle as you can feel how her life was before it was suddenly ended.
The age old conflict between good and evil is still alive and well in the afterlife and I enjoyed this story about it and finding that even a person looked down on during her moral life could find love after she passed away.
I recommend you get this book for a fun and page turning experience as humor sparks the interpersonal relationship between Gabrielle and Tyler and at the same time enjoy the story that is laid out for you to read!
I absolutely loved this book. It was very clean, and as far as I remember there wasn't even a single swear. The lore of the world is very interesting, and I like the plot twists as well. There's only a couple things I didn't like, which would include how fast the main characters fell in love. The age gap between the main character and the love interest introduced (or revealed, if you'd rather) at the very end is also a little . . . strange. Although to be fair, I'm not sure how old he is. But regardless, it is a very good book, and I was compelled to finish it all in one day. I loved Lucas, he's definitely my favorite character, and the main character herself is awesome as well. I will definitely be returning for the next book.
I absolutely loved this story…thank you so very much Angel (Victorine)! I can’t wait to listen to the next book, I appreciate you putting these books up on YouTube and allowing us the access to listen to your books on Audio - this personally gives me more time to read/listen to books whilst doing other things. I wait in anticipation to see how the next part of the story unfolds…I so want to know what happens with Gabriella and her parents, what happens to Tyler and Gabriella, will Aiden tell Gabriella that he loves her?! Also, what’s the plan for Jessica, Lucas, and Cyrus.
So many characters to catch up with in the next book.
Read this book if you haven’t, it’s well worth it!
I received a copy from the author and this is my honest and voluntary review.

I just finished reading Angel's Can't Fall in Love, and now I can't wait to read the next book! The ending isn't quite a cliffhanger per se, but it definitely leaves you dangling your legs over the edge. Gabriella is a fun heroine, and I really enjoy her tone in the narrative. Bring on some more afterlife!
She’s dead - HOW? And she is a guardian angel??? And she is in love with a young man who she went school with. And she’s his guardian angel??? Seriously, she has NO idea what she is doing. . . . and it just gets more complicated every day. A fairy tale — and a good story!!! I received a copy of this book from the publisher. All thoughts and comments are my own.
Well, this was a cute story in some ways. I ran into so many problems with doctrine and theology that it made it difficult for me to continue. I agreed to review this for the author, so I finished it. If you read it as simply a fantasy, it is a cute, easy read. However the ending was disappointing.
I requested this book from the author and am voluntarily leaving this honest review.
“Everybody dies at some point. Stop thinking like a mortal. Death isn't the end.”
"Reading is what people with no social life do." Maybe we just prefer it to surfing social media or streaming shows that are "meh" or "blah" at best. Great foray into the paranormal genre! I have enjoyed many of Victorine Lieske's romantic comedies and wasn't disappointed with this new work.
It’s nice to read a book aimed at teenagers that’s not full of sex and things that really belong in young adult. I totally recommend this book and hope to read the next book.
This is cute, funny, and full of action that I don't believe happens in the spiritual realm. It is a story, however, so must not be taken as a possible truth. It does end on a cliffhanger so I wonder where the next one will go.
This was fine at first--a little quirky but I still liked it--but then Gabriella started making dumb angsty choices and the drama was not my style. Finally, it ended on a bit of a cliff hanger.
Who knew a trip into the afterlife could keep me on the edge of my seat like Gabrielle hungered after popcorn. I can only say that the last of this book wasn’t satisfying and I need a whole lot more.
I mean this in the nicest way possible, but this reads like something I wrote at 13. There is no skill in this book whatsoever BUT I did still enjoy it. Poorly written but a fun little story.
This one wasn’t really for me. I liked the idea behind the book but I felt it dragged on too much without getting to the point. I chose to listen to this one and the narrator wasn’t my cup of tea
This is going on the DNF shelf for now because it was time to return it before I could finish it. Which goes to show it wasn't really holding my interest because I went on to something else.
This was a very enjoyable book, the story is very intriguing and mysterious, the humor is off the charts, and the characters are very lovable. I especially loved Aden from the first “oops”. The dialogue is really good and funny, and the ending holds a promise for another good read. The narrator did a good job, it’s always good to listen to Liz Crane.
The author walks an interesting tightrope between the paranormal and the religious, good and evil and the ether between the things we know and the things we don't know for sure, without taking too firm a stand. To declare an afterlife, complete with computer tablets and a vulnerable computer network is interesting. The author knows her market. She explores rather than proclaims.
The story engages us with affable characters whose lives are interrupted with real life issues, mostly. We have inept guardian angels, the high school heart throb marked for death. There's even room for a bit of empathy for our earthly villain and high school vamp.
The plot has story levels on both sides of the ether. This seems to be the first in a series which allows for a story conclusion, but does not tie off all the loose ends. Worth a read.
Enjoyed the narrators voice change for each character, although it was a slow read, so I was reading it at ×1.25. I'm not sure I'll read the second one, but we'll see.
