Debbie Burns is the celebrated author of heartwarming romance and women’s fiction featuring both two- and four-legged stars. While her books have earned many awards and commendations, her favorite praise is from readers who’ve been inspired to adopt a pet in need from their local shelter.
Debbie lives in Saint Louis with her family, a thoroughly spoiled rescue dog, and two Maine Coon cats who ought to be named Pete and Repeat. When she isn’t writing (or reading), you can find her hiking in the Missouri woods, working in her garden, or savoring time with family and friends.

There were a lot of issues from the past that came into play in this one for Riley and Levi. With the events that happened to them in high school it's easy to see why they split and why both of them ran. It was hard for both of them to be back, but I did find it interesting that as soon as Levi found out Riley was back, he subconsciously found his way back home too.
Things weren't easy for them, they had to talk with each other, with others that wronged them, with their parents, but with that and time, both of them seemed ready to let go and reach for happiness with each other. It made the ending all the sweeter!
DNF’d at around Pg. 70. This one seemed quite different from the others in the series. It was way too much romance, and not nearly enough “dog stuff”. I kept pushing myself to read it, hoping for storylines with canines, and kept getting disappointed.
You’re My Home is a feel good, second chance romance with lots of cute dogs. I’m new to author and found her writing quick and easy going. Riley Leighton is approaching 30 and returns home to help while her mom undergoes treatment for cancer. She is looking for work and ends up with the perfect temporary job at the local pet rescue where she use to volunteer as a teen. Being home reminds her of Levi Duncan her high school boyfriend and great love. They broke up after a mean spirited prank at their prom and she couldn’t wait to leave town for college. Levi’s has worked as a commercial diver but a recent accident and concussion mean it’s time for a change. He hears Riley is back and he returns to his hometown as well.
This is all heart melty cuteness. Both can admit they still having feelings without hardly going on one date. For me I had a hard time believing they can just pick up where they left off. There is no deep discussion of dreams, goals, past relationships etc. Who I was at 18 is very different than who I was 30 and I actually married someone from my high school graduating class. (We were never together in HS.) So I didn’t love how instantly they were back to being a couple.
This is a sweet way to spend a few hours if you prefer no angst stories. There is limited mild cursing and intimacy is off the page. One small complaint about the cover. It is pretty but Arlo, the Great Dane, is almost a full side character in the story. If you’re going to put a dog on the cover have it match the dog in the book.
Thank you to NetGalley and Sourcebooks Casablanca for the ARC and I’m leaving a voluntary review. (3.5 Stars)
A romance with dogs in it= perfection in my book. Riley left her high school a disgrace, now 12 years later she's come home for a bit. Levi is a marine diver on his way out because of an accident a few months back. The two never got to say what needed said. This was such a fun, Hallmark type book I really enjoyed Riley and Levi's banter . I've read a few books by the author. I think they get better each time.
Riley Leighton has returned home and has a few things from her post to confront. She has been running away from a few embarrassing situations from school and regarding her parents. She returns to the town of Webster and starts a temporary job at the High Grove Shelter, which is her dream job. Meanwhile, her boyfriend from High School shows up when he finds out she is back. He has his own problems to handle. He was an underwater welder but has had too many concussions to be eligible to continue with that line of work. So he is also looking for his next purpose and adventure in life. Riley is the girl he loved and lost and he wants another chance to win her back. Can they both figure out and get past the problems in the past and find a future together? Great summer read!
Omg please hire an editor who actually edits. Breaks and brakes are not the same thing! Quite instead of quiet, chose and lose instead of choose and loose. So many others. Somehow managed to pick the right “rein” though! Story was fine at least. But I was distracted too much by the missing words, wrong words, basic editing that didn’t happen.
Any book by Debbie Burn is full of promises and a dog on the cover is something I cannot resist. Read it, have fun and enjoy the story and the characters. Highly recommended. Many thanks to the publisher for this arc, all opinions are mine
Loved, loved, loved this latest offering by Debbie Burns!!! If you are a dog mom/dad or just an animal fan, this feel good, sweet romance of second chances, rescue shelters and dogs aplenty, this is the book for you. Five stars to this awesome read and amazing author!!!
Each year, I look forward to returning to the Rescue Me series for another romance… and probably just as importantly, another couple to find their forever home of the human type. You’re My Home is the seventh title in the series but since it’s a complete story within itself I don’t feel that you must have read the earlier stories to enjoy Levi and Riley’s story. You’ll run into some couples from the previous stories, but I don’t believe you’d feel lost. I’ll always gently suggest starting from the beginning of any series, but that’s not always possible… so I believe you’d enjoy this one just as it is – a cute, charming love story with one huge pup as important to the story as the couple is.
As always, let’s start off with the rescue pet in this one. Arlo, you huge, goofy, loving Great Dane. I adored this guy. And the humans in this story aren’t bad either. *insert a smile right here* My only annoyance with You’re My Home wasn’t about the story one little bit… I loved this romance. But, come on guys, that is not a Great Dane on the cover. And for as vital and important a role that Arlo plays in this romance — the Great Dane deserved to be on the cover.
Levi and Riley were sort of an item in high school, but at their prom, something happened, something cringe-worthy that turned a wonderful, memorable night into something far different. And Riley fled in humiliation and embarrassment. She left town shortly afterward, without a look back, and in that moment broke Levi’s young heart. Time has passed, and each has gone on to other things, and now as adults in their 30s, both Riley and Levi have come home. The emotions between them are still there, just as strong as ever. Now comes the choice to do something about what they are feeling for each other now… while dealing with the mistakes of the past.
I enjoyed Riley and Levi’s story. It’s well-written, low angst (in spite of the teenage history), with a second chance to get their love right… and one adorable big goof of a dog that will help that second chance work for all of them, including Arlo. I had such fun with this one, tears and laughter, second chances and healing. Hard to ask for much more than that.
*I received an e-ARC of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley, and I sincerely thank the author or publishing house for their trust. It is my choice to leave a review giving my personal opinion about this book.*
You’re My Home by Debbie Burns is the 7th book in her wonderful Rescue Me series. Once again, Debbie Burns gives us another wonderful sweet story as we return to the High Grove Animal Shelter, where we also get to see many of the people we got to know in the previous books.
Riley Leighton (our heroine) has returned home to support her mom during her cancer treatment; it has been 12 years since she left home. To her surprise, Riley runs into her ex-boyfriend from school, when she left town and broke his heart.
Levi Duncan (our hero), suffered a terrible accident during his deep-sea diver job, and has been warned that he cannot continue to do that job because of his severe concussion. Taking time off to decide on his career, he receives a message from his friend Marcus to help out at his dog training camp. When Levi runs into Riley, he still feels the chemistry between them, even after all those years. There friendship between them resumes, as Riley keeps their feelings as friends only, since knows she will eventually be leaving again.
When she discovers a Great Dane, who seems to be lost, she brings him to High Grove Animal Shelter, where she meets some of those she knew, such as Meghan, the director, Tess, Kelsey and Patrick. Riley offers to help work at the shelter, and begins to love her job walking the dogs, as well as taking control of the social media for the shelter. She realizes that she has fallen in love with Arlo, the Great Dane, which in time, she will adopt.
Riley and Levi spend a lot of time together, with both helping to promote the plans for Marcus’s training camp, and the fundraiser for the Shelter; not to mention their love of the dogs they help. Slowly, their feelings bring them back together, and will need to decide what the future holds for them.
You’re My Home is a charming second chance romance that is delightful, heartwarming and fun story of two people trying to get beyond their past, and move forward. It was great to see some of the past characters who lead the previous books, but most of all, I adored the dogs and the adorable & lovable, Arlo.
Debbie Burns gives us another wonderful addition to her Rescue Me series, which was a delightful, heartwarming story that kept us hooked until the very end. You’re My Home was well written by Debbie Burns. If you love animals, with a romance in the background, you need to be reading this series.
You're My Home is a sweet, low-angst second chance romance between Riley and Levi. In their senior year of HS, they had finally started dating, only to have everything fall apart when they were caught up in a family scandal through no fault of their own. They were humiliated at their prom and Riley decided to leave town as soon as she graduated and never look back.
For Levi, Riley was "the one who got away". He didn't want to break up and didn't understand why she ran. He has also been working away from home, but recently suffered a career ending concussion and has been at loose ends, so when he hears Riley is back in town, he immediately heads home, hoping to at least clear the air with her.
At first, Riley can't wait to run again, but when she lucks into a temp job at the animal shelter she used to volunteer at, and strongly bonds with a sweet, goofy, but traumatized Great Dane, she slowly starts to see her home town through different eyes. Meanwhile, Levi seizes the opportunity to show her how good things could be between them. Their romance was almost too easy, but it was perfect for the mood I've been in lately. I'm always looking for romances where everyone is kind to each other and where there are lots of cute animals and this book delivered on both of those things. The only thing I'm unhappy about is that although Arlo, the Great Dane, is an integral part of the story, the dog on the cover is completely wrong! My thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an advance copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions in this review are my own.
I have to say, I've loved all the books in this series. I mean, what's not to love? Cute dogs, friendly workers at an animal shelter, former sweethearts that get happy endings!?!
When Riley returns home to help her Mom as she starts radiation for breast cancer, she has a few demons from her past to bury. After witnessing an embarrassing kiss between her Mom and Levi's Dad, Riley is further humiliated at her prom by fellow attendees, all making her and Levi the brunt of their jokes. At the time, Riley is so upset that she leaves town and if she ever does return, she keeps a very low profile. That is, until she starts working part time at the animal shelter while looking for a permanent job elsewhere.
Levi has no idea of the depth of Riley's emotions around the situation. He's dealing with the loss of his career, but can't help coming back to High Grove once he learns Riley is back. Their reunion goes in a different direction than Riley expected, but Levi manages to recover well and their relationship blossoms from there. But will it be enough? Will they each find jobs and move on? I know, but you don't...until you read this book!
Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book, but my opinions are my own.
This was a refreshing, gentle novel about a guy and girl who broke up in high school and found their way back their hometown 12 years later and crossed paths again. The story is nothing earth-shattering, but I appreciated that the characters were able to talk about their relationship in mature fashion and they didn’t spend time on page misunderstanding or under communicating with each other. I always side-eye when a main character has let something that happened become something they can’t get past in adulthood, so it was nice Riley realized that in the general scheme of life she needed to move past the one event where people were mean to her and finally had the self-awareness to see that no one else was as hung up on it as she was. The side characters weren’t fleshed out as well and both Riley and Levi’s parents left a lot to be desired…both as characters and as humans who made decent decisions. Likewise, the bits about Levi’s job seemed underdeveloped. The story began after his accident, but after he took off for his hometown we never really found out more about the settlement, if he quit, what he’s going to do next, etc. Riley’s job at the shelter felt less like a plot device and more like an advertisement for animal shelters, but it had cute moments. Overall, a nice romance, that handles the main relationship maturely and does have you rooting for the main characters even if it’s predictable.
Riley Leighton and Levi Duncan are both home at the same time. It's the first time they've seen each other since high school and the sparks still fly. But the heartbreak is still there too. Riley has been running from love for years but being back home where she's spending time with Levi and working her dream job at a local animal rescue makes her realize she's done running and wants to make things right. Can she and Levi go the distance this time?
I've really enjoyed this series and this book was my favorite. It's well-written and the characters, both main and secondary, were well-developed. Seeing previous characters in this book was great as was meeting the dogs and other animals. The dogs in this book were fantastic! This captivating story was a sweet second chance romance that had me hooked from start to finish. I simply didn't want to put it down. I really like second chance romances, but this one was absolutely amazing and I loved it. I highly recommend both book and series which I believe is best read in order but can be read individually. I would love to see more from this series as I think there are more stories to tell. If nothing else, Marcus needs his own happily ever after.
Review copy was received from Publisher. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
I enjoyed one of the early books and decided to read the Rescue Me series. The couples are all working or volunteering at the High Grove Animal Shelter near St. Louis, Missouri.
Riley and Levi were a couple in high school until they had a shocking incident. Then Riley ended their relationship and ran. She has taken jobs all over and is only home for a few weeks until she finds her next position. She wants to be there to support her Mom through a health issue and to volunteer at High Grove again. When she finds a abandoned dog, Arlo, she wants him But she doesn't want to see Levi.
Levi went into industrial diving, also going away. But now he has an injury and can't dive commercially anymore. While deciding what's next, he works for his friend who does dog training. He takes on the repairs and improvements to the farm. Of course, they are doing a joint fundraiser with High Grove and Riley is working on it.
Between working on the fundraiser, working with Arlo and other dogs, they get to know each other and work through their current hopes and dreams. It was great to see them work things out in You're My Home and be able to reconnect with their families as well.
Narration: Stina Nielsen has narrated this entire series. She has a large catalog but this is my first time listening to her. Her performance added to my enjoyment with emotional tones. Both male and female voices were comfortable. I was able to listen at my newer 1.75x speed.
You're My Home is the seventh book in the Rescue Me Series by Debbie Burns. Somewhere down the line I missed a couple of the books, now needing to go back to catch up with this community. As for this story it read just well not having read all the series. So don’t be afraid to pick up this feel good second chance romance.
Riley Leighton and Levi Duncan have a history from ten years ago. This time they are more mature but because of the past this new chance is bittersweet. Fears, insecurities make this new chance one that is uncertain. Problems to be solved, two imperfect characters that are still kind and responsible along with fascinating animals all came together for an enjoyable read. You're My Home is an uplifting coming home story.
An ARC of the book was provided by the publisher through NetGalley which I voluntarily chose to read and reviewed. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
As she nears 30, Riley Leighton comes back home to support her mother during her cancer treatment. In search of employment, she finds a temporary position at the local pet rescue, a place she volunteered during her teen years. Being home stirs memories of her high school sweetheart, Levi Duncan, whom she parted ways with after a cruel prank during their prom led her to eagerly leave for college. Levi, having faced an accident and concussion in his commercial diving career, is also contemplating a change. Learning that Riley's back, he too returns to their hometown.
"You’re My Home" is a captivating tale of rediscovered love, filled with warmth, joy, and the journey of two individuals striving to overcome their history and look ahead. This read is perfect for those with a soft spot for animals and a longing for romance.
Nice story in the series, first one I read. Riley Leighton is back at home in Webster, MO, after her mom develops breast cancer. But Riley has only been home sporadically in the last 10 years since leaving high school since a scandal drove her away. Levi Duncan is back, also, after an accident ends his professional diving career (scuba diving, underwater construction), and hears that Riley is also back. Now, they both want to come together again, recognizing they belong together. A few cute things - Arlo, the great dane, and Riley's temp job at the local pet rescue.
This was a very predictable, sweet romance. It is a part of a series, but you could read it alone. If you enjoy books focused on rescue animals and cute dogs, you will really enjoy this story. At times the animals were more central in the story than the romance.
Even though the main characters knew each other previously, the romance seemed a little quick when they reunited. It would have helped to see them get to know who they are now.
The ending seem to be setting up for the next book, although I could not find that to confirm it.
Really glad to have managed to read the seventh book in this series. I Loved Riley and Levi as characters from the start. They both had issues to overcome and I loved the way they grew throughout the book and worked out where they were meant to be and what they were meant to do. Loved Arlo the great Dane and how he and Riley bonded straight away. I have really enjoyed all the books in this series and can’t wait to find out what’s coming next weather it’s another book in this series or something new. I love how dogs are such a huge part of every one of these stories.

Thank you NetGalley for allowing me to receive this book for an honest review.
This book is Book 7 in the Rescue Me series.
I found this book to be such a cute book. I felt like I was right in the story. I love the dogs and how former sweethearts reunite and how all connect and have a happy ending.
This was my first book by this author and it will be my last. There were so many 4 and 5 star reviews, I expected more. Once again, I am reminded that we all like different things.
The basic plot had promise. But very early, I recognized that the characters had no depth. The story was entirely too predictable and the editing was atrocious.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. You're My Home was an engaging and enjoyable read, filled with compelling characters and a story that kept me hooked from start to finish. The writing was immersive, and I loved the way it made me feel completely transported into its world!
Riley & Levi A second chance story. Things fell apart at prom their senior year in HS. 12 years have past and they are back home again. Will Riley get past her fears and move forward? took a couple of dogs and Levi's pursuit to let love have a chance this time.
Ok really liked this story and Arlo the Great Dane rescue has a lot to do with it! A touching love story about choices made and regretted and second chances. Free ebook from the library.
If you are feeling down and need a pick me up, I highly suggest picking up You're my Home by Debbie Burns. Not only was it a delight to read such a positive book, it got me out of the funk I was in. Hands down, this might be the cutest book I ever read in my life. I know we normally do not say a book is cute, but this one was, especially if you prefer dogs and cats to humans like me.
What people are not going to like about the book, is that it takes about ten chapters for there to be an actual problem for the main character, so it is a slow build, but because of the author's ability to make cuteness happen, you are going to want to stick with the book. Also, if you don't like happy books, then this may not be for you either.
Now, that might be what the ADHD readers may not like about the book, but I, on the other hand, completely adored the book's ability to inject some happy dopamine into my veins. It was so nice reading a book where the characters do not have any hidden agenda's and are not backstabbing for once, so much so that I picked up another Debbie Burns book to see if she is consistent with her happy tone and so far so good.
The easy to follow plot of old lovers reconnecting after a set of unlucky circumstances leads them back into the same small town/big city of St. Louis they grew up in, is filled with the utter joy of animals. This book is for the animal lovers out there who are also pinning for romance. Any new writer should pick this book up, read it, take notes, study it, and learn from it that not all books have to be dark, they can be happy and cute.
Go out and get the book May 9th 2023 if you need a pick me up.
A charming second chance romance. Also a second chance at new careers. Loved the dogs, of course. Engaging couple with interesting family and friends. Thanks to the publisher for providing a copy via NetGalley. My review is voluntary.
