Let’s make something clear: I don’t like football. Not even a little bit. But you know what I love? Janice Thompson’s books.
There’s just something about them—especially this series—that just makes my heart sing with joy. I was giggling out loud many times. The Texas charm and Texas pride makes my Texan roots beam. I love this friend group soooo much. I just want to wiggle my way in, they’re so much fun and truly care for the rest of the group.
I’ve said it before, you know I’m enjoying a mystery or suspense book when I’m not trying to figure out who did it—I’m too busy enjoying the story and characters and will figure it out when they figure it out. That was completely how I was with this book because I was just happy to see this friend group again and see the couple from the first book’s wedding (!!). I nearly cried happy tears with everyone at the wedding because it was just so sweet to see it and feel like I was apart of it.
The romance and the faith content was light, but it worked well for the plot and just the natural-everyday-normal that this series has been highlighting so well. I honestly adore it a lot (if that wasn’t obvious).
Oh, what more to say? While I’m super excited for the next book in the series, I’m also super sad that it will be the last book in the series, because if it wasn’t clear enough, I love these characters and friend group so much. This book almost feels like the final book for these characters, though, as the next book is about characters we haven’t met before. Maybe that’s a reason I cried at the end of this book, because it felt like a bittersweet goodbye. Readers who have loved a series like this will know this feeling, I’m sure!
*BFCG may (Read the review to see) recommend this book by this author. It does not mean I recommend all the books by this author. *I received this book for free from the Publisher (Barbour) for this honest review.
Every Dog Has His Day by Janice Thompson (Book 5 in the Gone to the Dogs Series) 4.5 Stars
In book 5, we follow Isabel who adopts a dachshund she found, that is until Texans quarterback Corey announces a reward for his missing dachshund. All of Houston is on the lookout for this missing dog that looks a lot like Isabel's new pup...The dog ends up going missing in the middle of the activities that take place between Corey and Isabel and the rest goes on from here as they try to find the dog, Ginger. This one was one of my favorites in the series because of all the friends and family elements and connections we see, reminded of great characters from earlier books in the series and it just feels like home in this small Texas town. I also always learning more about the Veterinarian life in these books.
If you love a cozy story with football, country music, dogs, food, pick this up. :) This series is always a good time.
Here's a new read for all you dog lovers out there! This is a fun, sweet and clean, light-hearted sort of read and I loved it. "Every Dog Has It's Day" features a tiny but feisty rescue dachshund named Ginger and her Texan caretaker Isabel.
Thank you to the publisher and CelebrateLit for the complimentary e-book I received to review. A positive review was not required of me, and the thoughts and opinions above are my own.
Note: I read this book through quickly, so if I missed any content, let me know in the comments below.
Continued cuteness in this fifth of a cozy mystery series set in Brenham, Texas. The primary setting is a veterinary clinic with the majority of characters its employees.
Groomer Isabel is passionate about football and loves watching her beloved Texans play football. When she fosters a found dachshund, the supposed owner is quite a surprise. The usual crew works together to solve a mystery while romances blossom.
In particular loved the use of one of Trina's songs to help not so beloved feline Hector and the sigh worthy ending.
My gratitude to publisher Barbour for a complimentary NetGalley copy of the novel. I was not required to post a review and all opinions expressed are my own.
MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK A Dog Has His Day by Janice Thompson is such a sweet book about a special little dog. And so much more knowing this sweet little doggie actually exists.
When Isabel Fuentes, adopts a feisty rescued dachshund, she has no idea what’s in store for her. A pretty fast paced story that will have you zooming through this book to see what happens next. Of course you may have to backtrack to stay with the story line. However the book gets so much more interesting when Texans quarterback, Corey Wallis’ female dachshund goes missing and everyone wants the big reward that is offered, so this has the entire town looking. You will find this fifth book in the Gone to the Dogs series a real delight to read. I love the sweet little dachshund story. My nephew has one that looks just like this one, and he is very much as sweet. These little doggies are just the sweetest breed.
If you enjoy a sweet, care free story, this is one you will love. And if you love dachshunds, then you have it made! I’m giving this very beautiful story Five Stars. Don’t forget to check put the other books in Gone to the Dogs series.
A special thanks to the author/publisher for a copy of this book. I am not required to write a positive review, the opinions here are mine alone. I am disclosing this with my review in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255.
This was a cute cozie including football, dogs, country music, and Mexican food. Can’t say I need much more. I enjoyed the plot to this book and the mild romance. I loved the coworkers at the rescue mission/ vet clinic. The mystery was good and it was equally balanced with the romance. I really liked the setting of Texas since it is next door to where I live and I can relate to things like Blue Bell and Dr. Pepper! I will go back and read the previous books in the series.
Standing in the crowd at an oversized sports arena while cheering and waving my victory banner for this enjoyable story. The referee scrambles across the grounds with his tape meter, for there is no yardstick equip to measure the caliber of Janice Thompson’s heart!
“Dogs were like that. They kidnapped pieces of our heart and kept them forever.”
Every Dog Has its Day by Janice Thompson may not be true-to-life, but it is a lot of fun and has all the elements that make me love it. Like its predecessors, Every Dog Has Its Day is clean, faith-based, set in a vet- combination rescue setting, and is hilarious. Plus, the book and series focus heavily on dogs and the people who love them. I’m in cozy heaven!
Isabel(Izzy) Fuentes narrates this book in first person POV. She is the clinic’s groomer, who fosters a lost dachshund. Trouble begins when the new pro quarterback in town , Corey Wallace, shows up to claim the dog, who isn’t microchipped and doesn’t like the man.
As the clinic-rescue gains notoriety for not releasing the pup to its alleged owner, can Isabel and Corey reach a compromise without harming the clinic’s reputation or clientele? As Corey and Isabel get to know each other, an attraction develops, but will their different social statuses stand in the way? Or an unforeseen crime?
I loved being back in Brenham, Texas with the Lone Star Clinic crew. One of the neat things about this series is that, while it focuses on one couple’s story, other couples from previous books are highlighted and their stories move forward nicely.
And Grandma Peach and Hector, her terror of a cat, are a hilarious big part of this novel, too. So much fun!
One of the neat elements of this book is the relationship between generations, related or not. I could feel the love oozing out from Carmela, every time she cooked and turned on the football game.
If you love hilarious animal-based cozies, don’t miss this book!
I received a copy of the book from Celebrate Lit via NetGalley. I also bought my own ecopy. No positive review was required, and all opinions are my own.
Notable Quotables:
“I knew this side of him, the happy, healthy side. But I also knew the other side. . .and it scared me to death.”
“When you loved someone, you did everything you could to bless them.”
“It’s easy to be believable when you’re telling the truth.”
“Grief was a fickle friend. It left its mark. But it also bonded you with others who were walking through it as well.”
“That’s what you heard with your ears,” I said. “But it’s what you hear with your heart that matters.”
Isabel “Izzy” Fuentes is a dog groomer at Lone Star Veterinary Clinic. She decides to foster a feisty dachshund her friend rescued from the streets. Corey Wallis is the new quarterback for the Houston’s Texans. He is desperately looking for his missing dachshund, who bears an uncanny resemblance to Izzy’s rescue.
EVERY DOG HAS HIS DAY is the fifth book in a multi-authored series, GONE TO THE DOGS. I freely admit that I wanted to read this story solely because of the dachshund on the cover. I have a soft spot for the breed because I own five of them. However, I had a difficult time getting into the story. I could not get interested in the story line nor the characters involved. The author’s voice just did not work for me. It is just unfortunate that this is a DNF (did not finish) for me because the story’s premises had such promise.
I do want to give the author kudos for knowing all about the dachshund’s oddities and quirks. It is clear she is no stranger to the breed and their mannerisms.
Every Dog Has His Day is part of the delightful Gone to the Dogs series. I’ve read a couple of them (so far) and really enjoy slipping out of my usual genres for a fun small-town mystery.
A lost dog leads the town on a flurry of events. Add in a high reward and a handsome quarterback and plenty of laughter, mystery, and romance ensues. Isabel and Corey are delightful characters, and the rest of the townsfolk just ooze with southern hospitality.
With just the right blend of humor, faith, romance, mystery, and of course our furry friends, you’re sure to be entertained. This is certainly a fun read.

#CoverLoverBookReview received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions are 100% mine.
What a fun book this was! I loved hearing the story of Isabel and the addition of Corey and football was the icing on the cake! I enjoyed reading more about the characters I've grown to love from the earlier books as well. This was probably my favorite book of the series!
Thanks so much to netgalley and the publisher for the arc. The opinions are my own
This is a fun novel. While it is a cozy mystery the mystery really takes a back seat to more of a focus on relationships and possible romance. This is a good book for dog and cat lovers. My favorite part of the book was explaining how pets are acquired. Dog owners will have planned and investigated before adopting from a shelter. Cat owners, well the cats just show up at your door and are taken in, as has happened with two of ours.
Thompson's novel is fun to read. She has some clever dialogue and a good dose of humor. The characters are well presented. There's a bit of Texas football and a subtle Christian message. A delightful, light book to read. While it is down the line in a series, it reads well on its own.
I received a complimentary egalley of this book from the publisher. My comments are an independent and honest review.
This series has been fun. I enjoyed the groomer aspect as I am groomer too and could relate! I'm not a fan of sports, but this was cute none the less. Looking forward to finishing up with the final book.
Brenham, Texas is the kind of place I would love to visit for the special people who live there. The setting is described very well, and there are exciting events throughout the year. Nobody shines brighter there than the staff of Lone Star Veterinary Clinic, the Second Chance Dog Ranch, and their two- and four-footed loved ones.
This is my favorite in the series so far, even though I am more of a cat person. I prefer baseball or basketball to football, yet found much in common with the main characters, most of whom were football fans, plus a certain football player. I would love to have worked someplace like the clinic where most of the employees were Christians. Love and laughter, dogs and pigskin characterize this mystery!
Isabel is the groomer at Lone Star and loves the veterinarians, staff, clients, and pets. She moved to Brenham a couple years ago after inheriting her beloved grandmother, Lita’s, small home. Lita’s next-door neighbor, Carmela, had been her best friend, so Isabel and Carmela avidly cheer the Texans together even as they grieved for Lita.
Mari and her fiancé, Parker, work for the clinic and the rescue belongs to Mari. They were in Houston when getting a call from a past-capacity rescue there to pick up a small, female dachshund and brought her back to Brenham and to the clinic. She did not have a microchip, so the Houston rescue added the doxie to their web site. Isabel, a foster, took the pup in until the owner was found. Isabel fell in love with the pup on the first night she had her.
Corey was just traded from the Steelers to the Texans. Ginger, the dachshund that had belonged to his mother, ran out the door when the movers left it open. He will do anything to get Ginger back, as his mother passed away recently and he took Ginger to live with him. When he went to Brenham to pick her up, she would not let him near her, simply clung to Isabel. Corey did not bring any of her paperwork, so they could not release a dog that refused to go with him. Unfortunately, Corey’s manager was there with the press. When they would not release the dog to him, Houston football lovers had a fit. Later, when people protested outside the clinic, Ginger disappeared from the secured, outdoor play yard where several dogs were. Isabel and others suspected that Corey, with either his manager or an obnoxious news anchor, took her.
Corey could work with Isabel as she, Mari, and Parker searched for the pup, or try to find Ginger on his own. It was a delight to watch Corey and Isabel get to know each other through their shared love for Ginger and football. I enjoyed both Isabel and Corey, their values, and how underneath his love of the game, Corey was an introvert like her. Isabel had struggles with her faith; with the Lord and His help through her friends, she was working through them. There were a few new romances amongst her friends, also, which was pleasant without distracting from the mystery.
I was as stumped as they were regarding Ginger. There were several suspects, but no pup. Overall, I was very satisfied with how each situation was resolved, and did not want to see the book end. I highly recommend this for older teens and women who appreciate well-written Christian cozy mysteries with dogs, football lovers, and sweet romance.
From a thankful heart: I received a copy of this e-ARC from the publisher through Celebrate Lit and NetGalley, and this is my honest review.
I love how the author incorporates her gift of humor into this story. The setting is perfect as I live in the area she refers to. The story is about a little dachshund who I adored. I have always thought they were a cute breed and during the story I was able to know more about this breed. Being a purebred you would think it was chipped wouldn’t you? It’s a mystery why this sweet little dog was found wondering the streets in Houston.
Oh my just wait till you find out who the owner is of this precious little dog. I was flabbergasted and also a bit excited. The author knows just how to hook her readers with excitement, laughs, faith and southern hospitality. I loved the nod to out football team , The Texans and our baseball team The Astros. It made me smile to think about our teams and how much of a fan I am of them.
That brings me to the owner of the dog who is being fostered by the adorable Isabel. She falls in love with the sweet dog and has misgivings of who the owner claims to be. What a circus it turns out to be around the clinic when a very famous athlete shows up to claim the dog.
I’m pretty sure I laughed through the entire book as we are reacquainted with Grandma Peach and her new husband the Reverend . They are a hoot and bring such joy to the story. There is a secret wedding to discover as well in this cozy mystery. I love how the author has brought a quaint little town to life with characters who scream of southern hospitality at its best. Now I’m not gonna tell you what happens to the dog or if there may be a blossoming romance but I can say this is a must read book.
Get ready for famous stars, laughter, dogs and a mystery sure to keep you guessing. Thank you to the author for sharing about ministering to the lost and homeless people in the Houston area. It is something every city deals with and the author highlights this in her book with compassion. The ending is oh my so so good. I think you have outdone yourself with this book Janice.
I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion.
This book makes you believe in "happily ever after".
A sweet, easy read from Barbour books, the focus is on dog rescue with a healthy dose of Christian living. The latter is subtle, however, and simply a part of the characters' daily life with the mystery and, of course, dogs, being the focus. A lost dog is found in an upscale neighborhood and fostered by one of those who cared for her after rescue.
That's when things get complicated as it suddenly appears a large reward has been offered for the dog. Suddenly, people are coming out of the woodwork to try to claim the adorable, fiesty mini-dachshund temporarily dubbed Sasha. Then Sasha goes missing. Again. Turns out her owner is the high profile quarterback for the local professional football team and, well, not only single, but sweet and handsome. Can romance be far behind? But, first, who stole Sasha, er, Ginger? Surely it wasn't some cheap, cruel publicity stunt? Having the media tailing them is a nuisance, that's for sure.
I've thoroughly enjoyed this series but for some reason had trouble sorting out who was who this go-round. Possibly on me as I think I missed a book and it's therefore been awhile. Cozy mystery buff or not, I liked that there is no bloodshed and, oh, my, what a sweet moment at the end. I hesitate to say more and ruin the fun for readers. Football fan or not, you're sure to enjoy the easy friendships between the characters and, of course, that adorable mini-dachshund.
Thanks #NetGalley and #BarbourPublishing - #BarbourFiction for letting me drop in on a remarkable team of dog rescuers. My own Daisy dog is a rescue, so that's a topic that's near and dear to me.
I am very excited for the next book in this Wonderful series about Dogs. I also LOVE that is a Cozy Mystery Book. Every Dog Has His Day by Janice Thompson is Book 5 in the Gone to the Dogs Series. I have had the joy of reading the first 4 books in this series. Janice Thompson and Kathleen Y'Barbo have been alternating the writing of the books.
We are back in Brenham, Texas, and at the Lone Star Veterinary Clinic. Isabel Fuentes is the Groomer at the Vet Clinic and has the chance to adopt a little dachshund and they become fast buddies. Isabel gets a little worried when Houston Football Player, Corey Wallis puts out a reward for his Missing Female Dachshund. Isabel realizes that the Dog looks very much like the Missing Dog and contacts Corey. Ginger goes missing again and Isabel is feeling that Corey and his Manager might have taken her. Houston is all abuzz with the news of the Missing Dog and Isabel is wondering if the News Reporter and Cameraman that have contacted her are really after the Dog and not the Story. Will Ginger eventually be HOME with her rightful owner? Will there be a Romance between Corey and Isabel?
Wow, this book is soo cute and Cozy. I really enjoyed the Mystery in helping Ginger find its owner. Corey and Isabel are both wanting the best for Ginger and I LOVED seeing them work together to find the Dog. The romance that began as they were spending time together looking for Ginger was so cute. . I started reading the book and did not stop until I was done about 4hrs later. The books are part of a series but also read great as a Standalone book. I am looking forward to reading all the books in this series! WONDERFUL BOOK!
** “Grief was a fickle friend. It left its mark. But it also bonded you with others who were walking through it as well.” **
Janice Thompson delivers another incredibly fun and sweet novel in the Gone to the Dogs Mysteries series with “Every Dog Has His Day.”
When the Second Chance Ranch rescues a dachshund on the run, Lone Star Veterinary Clinic and rescue groomer Isabel Fuentes is instantly smitten, even willing to foster the sweet dog. That is until the new Houston Texans Quarterback Corey Wallis claims to be its owner. But then the dog she calls Sasha, and he calls Ginger, goes missing from the clinic’s backyard.
As the two work together to bring the missing dog’s case to the public, they soon begin to grow closer. Will they find the missing dog? Did she escape on her own, or was she dognapped for someone’s personal gain? And just who is the missing cameraman that keeps following them around?
Thompson once again develops a great cozy mystery with a truly fun tone and great characters — including many returning characters like the plucky Grandma Peach and her ornery cat Hector.
She also does a good job of filling the story with great themes, like putting family first; we’re never truly alone when God is on our side; getting over distrust and insecurity; and dealing with grief.
Fans of cozy mysteries, animal stories and small-town Mitford-like series will love “Every Dog Has His Day,” which is due out July 1.
Five stars out of five.
Barbour Fiction provided this complimentary copy through NetGalley for my honest, unbiased review.
Isabel has fallen in love with a rescue dog, and wants to adopt her. Then it was announced the dog is named Ginger, and belongs to Corey, a famous football player. When he shows up at the veterinary office Isabel works at, he has no paperwork to prove the dog is his.
Because of that, Isabel could not give Ginger to Corey. When she told him that, all the reporters that came with him to cover the reunion, write articles that imply Isabel is the bad guy.
Public opinion quickly turns against Isabel along with her veterinary office. Protesters appear outside the building, blocking customers from getting in. Other people threaten to not come back to the clinic. In the midst of it all, Ginger disappears, and they wonder if she has been dognapped.
As Isabel tries to track Ginger down, she comes across more puzzles concerning the pooch. There are many red herrings, and false leads before the truth is found.
This is a fun mystery that keeps you turning the pages to find out what happened. Quirky characters add to the mayhem. Isabel's family and friends add a nice sense of community to the tale. This is part of a series, but this story stands on its own.
I recommend this five-star book to fans of whodunnits, dogs, and enjoyable stories.
Thank you, NetGalley and Barbour Books, for providing Tickmenot with a book to review. Opinions are my own.
Every Dog Has His Day is a delightful addition to a wonderful series that has Gone to the Dogs! In more ways than one. I’m obviously a fan of dogs. We’ve got three German Shepherds in the house and three Great Pyrenees/Anatolian Shepherd mixes (plus a few puppies) outside with the livestock. All of our dogs are spoiled and well-loved.
What I can’t say is that I’ve ever had a small dog. The smallest I’ve ever had was a sheltie. But he like the Ginger in the story was definitely a runner. He’d zoom right off the first chance he could. And then you’d spend hours trying to catch him as he would taunt you from just out of your reach.
This is such a sweet book. It’s suspense but in a low-key way. There’s a missing dog and people are off to find her. Some minor other conflicts. And football. I pretty much am not a sports person so some of the book was not my favorite but I did truly love the book overall.
You’re going to love running off with the dogs in this one! And let me tell you there is a happy ending and lots of fun along the way.
I have voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from Celebrate Lit. All views expressed are only my honest opinion. I was not required to write a positive review nor was I compensated in any other way. All opinions expressed are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with the FTC regulations.
This is cozy mystery has a different twist than many because there’s no blood or a dead body in this one. The storyline revolves around the disappearance of a beloved little dog. Ginger, the dachshund, is a little scamp and loves to run and explore. She’s disappeared before and was being taken care of by the folks at the Lone Star Vet Clinic. But when she disappears again, this time from the vet clinic, there seems to be a more sinister reason behind it. Ginger’s owner is a famous NFL quarterback and there’s much publicity about finding Ginger. As Isabel Fuentes, an employee of the clinic, and quarterback Corey Wallis join forces to find Ginger, a new friendship develops between them. Romance seems to be in bloom at the Lone Star Vet Clinic. The question then becomes —will love find Corey and Isabel as they search for Ginger?
This was a fun story to read. The characters in the story are sometimes quirky, but always lovable (especially Grandma Peach). There’s some unusual circumstances around Ginger’s disappearance, and I wanted to keep reading to find out not only what happened to Ginger, but also to see how things turned out for several of the employees of the clinic.
This book is part of a series, but it’s easy to read this one on its own. After having read this one, I want to go back and catch up on the other books in the series.
I voluntarily received a copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions are my own.
Isabel, Izzy, is front and center on this fifth installment of Gone to the Dogs Mysteries. Izzy works as the groomer at the Lone Star Veterinary Clinic. A mini dachshund puppy is found in Houston by Mari & Parker. She needed instant help from the staff the night of her rescue and the next morning finds Izzy grooming her. The story revolves around Izzy in this book and so we learn more about her. Izzy loves football. Her Grandma passed on her passion for Texan football and her house to Izzy. A rather famous and handsome man comes forward saying that the rescued little pup is his. But the whole story is not adding up. Yet, Izzy is finding that she is falling for the sweet but mischief puppy, too. Izzy is busy trying to figure out the mystery, as a slow friendship then a romance comes to the uncertain Izzy. Read to find out who the newest rescue will end up with and also catch some fun from the whole gang at Lone Star Veterinary Clinic. Someone is getting married and more is going on with each day. I don't want to spoil the story, so grab a copy and read for yourself. This is a mystery with a dash of romance that at times will overshadow the mystery.
This is my personal opinion on this book. I received a complimentary copy of the book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
This is the 5th book of the heart-warming series, Gone to the Dogs. I have read this entire series and have enjoyed each one very much.
This one finds Lone Star groomer, Isabel Fuentes, who fosters dogs, finding herself taking in a rescued dachshund. New Texans quarterback, Corey Wallis, declares he has lost his daschsund, Ginger and offers a large reward. He soon learns that Isabel has a dog that looks like his and declares it is his.
Isabel and the others at Lone Star Vet feel there is a big publicity stunt going on and require specific papers to ensure the dog is indeed the one Corey is looking for. During this time, Ginger comes up missing from the Lone Star Vet clinic and now everyone is looking for the dog again. Will Ginger be found and the rightful owner decided on? Will Isabel and Corey join forces to find Ginger?
This is a sweet story of surprising actions taken, friendships developed, and as usual, more adventures included with the Lone Star Vet personnel. You will not want to miss adding this book to your reading list. I highly recommend it.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Barbour Publishing and was under no obligation to post a review.
Every Dog Has His Day is written by Janice Thompson. This is book 5 in the Gone to the Dogs series. The books can be read as stand alones - but you will want to read them all. I love the staff of the Lone Star Veterinary Clinic. I love how we have gotten to know all of them. This is Isabel's story. She is the groomer for the clinic.
Mari finds a dachshund wandering the streets. Isabel fell in love with the feisty dachshund. However they soon find out that the dachshund may belong to Houston Texans newcomer, Cory Wallis. However something about the whole fiasco does not sit well with Isabel. When the dachshund disappears again - Isabel is worried that it is just a publicity stunt with Cory's agent.
Isabel wants to find out who is behind the dog napping - and the motive. Was it the reward money? Was it an inside job? I also loved seeing newlyweds Grandma Peach and Reverend Nelson again. Grandma Peach is so funny. Her wit and humor had me chuckling throughout the whole book.
Thank you to the author, publisher and Celebrate Lit for allowing me to read a copy of this book -- all thoughts are my own.
This was another cute edition in the Gone to the Dogs Mysteries, focusing on Isabel the groomer of our favorite vet clinic. This story centers around a cute little dachshund who may or may not belong to a devastatingly handsome pro-football quarterback by the name of Corey Wallis. He's new to the team and Isabel is a big football fan anyway. However, when it comes to dogs, she is a fierce protector and for some reason this little one doesn't want to even let Corey hold her.
Well as you can imagine this is a big story that is entangling the clinic in a possible lawsuit and the paparazzi are swarming. Then the unthinkable happens again, and Ginger is nowhere to be found. Will Corey and Isabel team up together to find out what is exactly happening? And maybe in that teaming up another clinic worker will have their happily ever after. This was a fun and upbeat mystery, and I am glad Isabel got her story after the havoc created by her last boyfriend.
I was provided a copy of this novel from the author. I was not required to post a positive review and all views and opinions are my own.
I am giving this cool novel 5 stars for making it such a wonderful adventure! Thompson does an awesome job in making these characters realistic and relatable. I love her writing! I really am enjoying this series very much! I'm also glad that Corey and Isabel got their own story, which just happens to be my favorite one so far! I couldn't put the book down, so I ended up finishing it in one day! So very good! Corey's dog was what kept me turning the pages. I wanted to see if they were able to find that poor baby! There are some cute moments that made me smile. I'm still thinking about this book and still smiling. I chose this book because I'm loving this series and was happy to see it. The cover is just adorable! The puppy looks so happy without a care in the world! I hope there's another one soon. I feel like they're my one big happy family! My thanks to Netgalley and Barbour for a copy of this book. I was NOT required to write a positive review. All opinions expressed are my own.
I really liked the blurb for Every Dog Has His Day and was thrilled when I received an advanced copy from NetGalley and the author. Unfortunately, this book just didn't do it for me. All of the Texas stuff that we were bombarded with made me dislike the state of Texas and I'm a native Texan who loves Texas, but this book was just way to full of cliches about Texas and Texans. I was surprised to read about the author at the end of the book and find out she is actually from Texas. I was sure it was someone from a different state just spouting stuff they researched about Texas. I mean, we don't all have cowboy hats and boots. I grew up with ranchs and I've never owned a cowboy hat OR boots - I also never had a horse. It was just too much. There were also way too many characters to keep track of. This was my first book in this series and maybe that made a difference in regards to the characters, but no way would I read another book by this author in this series as I'm sure it is just more of the same stereotype stuff. Weak 2 stars.
Every Dog Has His Day is the fifth book in the Gone to the Dogs Mysteries series. I loved revisiting the character of the Lone Star Veterinary Clinic. Janice Thompson focuses on groomer Isabel Fuentes for this mystery. We also get close looks at Mari and Parker and their wedding plans. There is also a surprise from a couple other members of the Lone Star Veterinary Clinic as well as other recurring characters in the series. After reading the previous four books, it wasn’t hard to guess where the romance was going to be in this story. That did not lessen the enjoyability of the story because the details were a bit surprising at times. Thompson uses some twists and turns which made it hard to figure out “who done it.” I enjoyed this book and look forward to reading others in the series. Even though Every Dog Has His Day is an adult novel, there is nothing that would keep it from being included in a K-12 Christian school library. Older middle school students and up will enjoy it. I received a complimentary copy of Every Dog Has his Day. This is my honest review.
