USA Today bestselling author Margaret Watson is a two-time RITA Finalist with thirty books in print for Harlequin and Silhouette and many other award-winning romantic suspense novels.
When not writing, Margaret practices veterinary medicine in the Chicago area.
Becca Johnson, veterinarian and single mother, works hard in Cameron, Utah. She definitely does not expect to run into Grady Farrell, a past love, while floating teeth one day at the Flying W Ranch. When Becca and Grady come face to face after nine years apart they are definitely attracted to one another despite the negative way they parted.
Both Becca and Grady have followed their dreams, achieved many of their goals, have grown as individuals and neither one has forgotten the other. Becca is a strong woman who knows what she wants and also what she needs not only for herself but also for her daughter, Cassie. Grady is a man who has never wanted to be tied down and even with his rodeo career behind him and the new owner of a ranch he still believes he is tumbleweed.
With someone stalking Becca, a huge secret standing between Becca and Grady and the potential for a HEA seeming elusive there is still hope that the two will find a way to resolve their issues but only if they are honest and open with themselves and with one another.
This is the first book in a series about the Cameron Cowboys and I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series as soon as I can.
Thank you to the author for the copy of this book. This is my honest review.
wow this started out great! I was super into it-up until like chapter 6. the chemistry between the two MCs was sizzling. the feelings on both sides relatable. couldn't believe this was a free book on Amazon! then the writing became redundant. it was like: scene. cut. reset. about fifteen times. as you can probably tell, this is a pretty big pet peeve of mine, and it kinda ruined the book for me a little. it was still okay. but it coulda been great. as it was, I felt myself more interested in the sheriff and his mysterious deputy, than these two. sidenote- this cover= no.
Becca Johnson was once involved with rodeo star Grady Farrell. In an attempt to get him to come home from the rodeo, she told him that she was seeing someone else. It backfired on her big time, when Grady basically told her to have a nice life. The prologue ends with her feeling sick to her stomach and thinking that it was due to the stress of her and Grady ending things. I was once a stupid teenager and did stuff like that to try to get a guy to come to me. Like Becca, it blew up in my face big time. So when I read that, I read it while smirking.
The book flashes forward 9 years later. Becca has grown up. She is now a veterinarian, owns a partnership in the practice that she works for and is the single mother to an 8-year-old girl named Cassie. She is doing well for herself but has never forgotten Grady. Well, wasn’t she surprised when she arrives at the Flying W Ranch to float horses teeth and finds out that Grady is the new owner. The old owner, Sy Ames, lost the ranch to Grady while playing cards. I did pause while reading and think to myself “They still do that (put property up when there is no money)?”
Becky is carrying a lot of baggage do to her relationship with Grady. A lot and it shows in her interactions with him. She half lies about things and withholds other important things. Very important things, which drove me kinda nuts. So I didn’t blame Grady for not being very happy when he found out her big secret. I would have been just as shocked and upset as he was.
There are sparks flying between the two of them which Becky tries to ignore. About half the book was her ignoring the sparks between them but when they gave in, the sex was out of this world good. And, guess what!!! They used protection. I swear I did a double fist pump when I read that (if you have been reading my blog, you know my views on fictional unprotected sex….lol).
Becca is also being stalked by someone. Who, she doesn’t know. She does have 2 suspects that she tells the police: Sy Ames, the ex owner of the Flying W Ranch and Grady’s new ranch manager, Ron Perkins. The author did a great of keeping you guessing as to who the stalker was up to when he was revealed. I was surprised at who it was. Also, I loved Becca’s creative use of plastic wrap to keep the stalker in place while waiting for the police….lol.
I will say that Cassie was the cutest thing, ever. She actually reminded me of my daughter when she was that age. They both love horses and my daughter actually really loved watching the rodeo on TV.
The ending was pretty typical of a romance novel, not that it took away from the book at all. Everything was wrapped up nice and I am expecting Grady and Becca to have a HEA. I can’t wait to see where this series goes and who the book will be about next. The author introduced some pretty interesting characters.
**I received a free copy of this book and volunteered to review it**
Rodeo Man is a second-chance at love story and far from perfect. Becca was an immature nineteen-year old all set to go to college when to get her rodeo loving boyfriend Grady home, she told a lie that there was someone else in her life, she regretted it immediately but felt he would call her back, he didn't and her life crashed. She learnt she was pregnant, tried very hard to find him, her parents cut her off and she struggled through college and debts. But now nine years later, she is no longer that girl, she's mature, and a partner in a vet business and adores raising her daughter Cassie. She may not be very well off but she has raised her daughter well.
When she is called to the Flying W Ranch she is shocked to see the new owner is Grady. Grady is still bitter over what he thinks is Becca's betrayal but he still tries to draw her into conversation while Becca tries to keep it professional. Grady just keep showing up not accepting the signals she sends out. Becca is in a dilemma to tell Grady or not, she knows he deserves to know the truth but by Grady's own admission he liked being foot-loose and she has to consider the welfare of her daughter.
Of course he finds out and is angry. For me the problem in the book was Grady, he didn't know if he could be a good father and his doubts went on for too long and I felt he didn't appreciate Becca enough. I liked Becca for the most part, how protective she was of her daughter and how she was quick to agree that she was imposing her own wishes when she tried to rationalize keeping her daughter away from horses. She even cut herself from Grady, not accepting any less.
I typically stay away from this type of story for the two reasons above. Free Amazon reads have made me read “junk” I would never check out at my local library or purchase. This story is a good example and reminder that maybe it’s time I give my Kindle a break and give iBooks some eye-time.
Small town and the return of a wounded lost love...
Becca Johnson and Grady Farrell are former sweethearts so parted nine years earlier after Becca cryptically tells Grady there is someone else while he is away on the rodeo circuit. For some inane, unspecified reason, Rebecca tells Grady this lie so he will come home to her. Spare me...
Becca has successfully completed veterinary school, had a baby, bought into a private practice to become a partner and managed to raise said baby singlehandedly. If anything, this is the only admirable trait of Becca—her drive—single moms are AWESOME!!
Grady returns to the small town after an injury ends his rodeo career. Grady and Becca play the hands off games as long as they can before giving in. Becca just happens to be stalked at the same time of Grady’s return pushing them together. Becca lives in fear, not from the stalker, but that Grady will somehow not realize the lookalike little girl is his. Completely inane...
Even more silly is that we already know who the stalker is—there is no suspense whatsoever—yet Becca is the only person who thinks it is Grady’s foreman at the Flying W Ranch, because he openly shows animosity toward her. If it were only that easy...
Alls well that ends well and one happy family emerges...
Not a good read, but if you are a sucker for this type of story, proceed with caution.
I liked both the H/h and enjoyed the ranching and horse aspects. But after reading the first chapters I looked at the copyright date to confirm it was in the 1990s. The romance was dated in that the hero couldn’t commit due to insecurities and the heroine couldn’t commit due to the hero’s lack of commitment. The making out scenes were filled with neither could keep their hands off each other but they had to stop. This scenario seems so dishonest after reading contemporary romances. Also, the heroine not dating anyone else for almost a decade because of her daughter seemed a little far fetched as well as putting herself through vet school and buying into a practice as a single mom.
However, as the title said it kept my interest and except for the cliche ridden vows of love from both at the end and the commitment issues I enjoyed reading the story.
While Becca and Grady struggle to overcome the hurts from their past and reconcile where they might fit in each other’s current lives, there’s someone who’s stalking Becca and causing problems on Grady’s ranch. Will their fledgling reconnection be irrevocably broken when secrets are revealed? And is someone just trying to make trouble or is the threat more serious than either of them suspects?
This is a warmhearted second chance love story that will tug at your heartstrings. The interaction between Becca and Grady is a roller coaster of emotions with its twists and turns and ups and downs. But their chemistry is strong, and the moments of passion hold just the right amount of steam. The drama is slow building with a few surprises along the way, but there’s plenty to keep you involved from beginning to end. It’s a very enjoyable and appealing romance that I highly recommend. I read this as part of the Cameron Cowboys bundle box set.
Rodeo Man is a fantastic contemporary romance by Margaret Watson. Ms. Watson has provided us with a book that is well-written and loaded it with amazing characters. This second chance romance brings Rebecca and Grady together after years apart. Rebecca is part owner of an animal clinic. Grady bought a ranch after being injured in the rodeo. Their story has plenty of drama, humor, action, suspense and spice. I enjoyed reading this book from the first page till the last and look forward to reading more from Margaret Watson. Rodeo Man is book 1 of the Cameron Cowboys Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.
I really liked the characters in the book. The plot is fairly typical with a young woman getting pregnant by a RODEO MAN and raising the child on her own. When Grady comes back into Becca’s life, the first half of the story is about her keeping his child’s identity from him. The second half is about whether he feels he’s good enough to be a father and partner. There is a fair amount of repetition that I thought was missed opportunity to expand the suspense portion of the plot.
Grady and Becca...When rodeo star, Grady Farrell won a ranch in Cameron, UT, he didn't know that his ex-lover, veterinarian Becca Johnson lived there, too. Or, that Becca had a secret. Add in a stalker and you have a story that provided plenty of drama, action and romance. It took awhile for the conflict to be resolved, once it was, the HEA was very satisfying. I enjoyed reading this book and look forward to reading more from this author.
This is the first book in years I couldn’t finish. If you read romance novels often, you will guess the whole plot by the second chapter. I couldn’t finish. The H was predictable in his “I am a wounded rodeo God, I will never care about anyone” attitude. Meanwhile the h spends most of what I read feeling sorry for herself because she has a secret and doesn’t know how to tell it. I want my 2 hours back!!
Retired rodeo man acquired a ranch, what he does not expect is that the vet who takes care of that ranch is an old flame, none that never went out.
He chose the rodeo life over her, not knowing she was carrying his child. She became a vet and moved to a new town with her daughter, where she bought in to a practice. Now life and a stalker conspire to throw them back together, and their hearts want what their brains are fighting against.
After the first chapter I realized I had read this book a couple years ago, but must not have written a review. I enjoyed the story of Rebecca, Cassie & Grady. I understood Becca's reluctance to tell Grady about their child. I could feel Grady's bitterness through the story, the feelings of all characters were well portrayed. The rest of this series feels intriguing & will be on my radar to read.
Contemporary small town Western romance with childhood first loves finding each other as adults and a secret child plot. Grady Farrell is back in town healing from a rodeo injury when he bumps into Becca Johnson, his first love. Becca is an adult, but she has a big secret to share with Grady and it doesn't go well, at first. I liked the cool smart little girl, Cassie. Cute fluff story with a HEA. 256 pages and kindle freebie 2 stars
Becca and Grady. Becca is a veterinary in a small town and loves it. When she heard that a ranch has a new owner she wonders what happened. But she got the shock of her life when she found out the new owner is Grady who she knew 9 years ago. And she is petrified. She has a secret at home that he knows nothing about. Man what is she going to do? And to top it off she still has feelings for him.
Grady and Becca were sweethearts but his greatest interest was rodeos. She wanted him to come home but he wouldn’t come so she tried a lie. It didn’t work. Now years later he buys a ranch in the town she works as a vet. This is how he learns that they share a daughter. He doesn’t believe that he would make a good father. A good story.
I love reading Margret Watton's books. I felt so sorry for Grady and Becca, they have both gone through so much, the heart ships they both endured for 9 years. Grady's problems stand back to his father. I always like a happy ending. thanks Margert Watson for this great story, its was so heart warming to read. :)
I can’t believe someone filled an entire book with “will they or won’t they”. No surprises here and hardly a plot. Page after page of two people pawing at each other and then backing away because of their past history. I won’t spoil it by telling you how it ends but it’s pretty predictable.
Sweet romance with two main characters who find themselves living in the same small town after a decade of not seeing each other. The mystery of who was behind the harassment of Becca wasn't too hard to figure out. At times I felt like I wanted to shake both Becca and Grady and tell them to grow up and stop being so selfish.
I enjoyed this sweet second-chance-romance. The writing style, plot and world building were entertaining and well imagined, however it seemed both characters were restrained. They came into themselves later into the story which lead to a suburb ending.
A hard-working, single mom and veterinarian who still loves the rodeo man. He comes to town not knowing he has a daughter, or that she is there. And our heroine has a stalker. Recommend.
Becca and Grady were imitate years ago. Now he has come to town as owner of the Flying W ranch There is still feelings between them. But there is a secret between them that he doesn't know and she didn't know how to tell him. Will things workout between them or well they become a family
This was a wonderful HEA. Grady comes to Cameron after he wins\buys a ranch. The local vet is working on the horses teeth. Little did Grady & Becca be in the same town after 9 years. She has a secret.
This book was great from start to finish. It was well written& the characters were great. It ha saddness, suspense & romance. It makes were realize how hard it is were single moms to date & love on.
A second chance romance with heat! She spent the past 9 years raising their daughter now he is back in her life but he still dies not know that it is his child! A well written romance with a touch of suspense
Bull rider Grady gets a second chance with his high school sweet heart, but is he smart enough to take another chance. Becca and Grady need to work through the past for their future.
I don’t know why I read this. It is not what I normally read and I kind of thought it would be more about horses. Anyway. I read it. It was ok. Stupid name for the book and the cover is just cringey.
Another wonderful, book by Margaret Watson! The story follows the relationship of Rebecca's and Grady and the child he doesn't know he has until nine years later
Cowboy wins a ranch in a bet & he finds alot more than he bargained on. Single Mum has finially has her life sorted when the past blows into town. Romance, mending fences all with a malevolent character lurking. A good read.
