Who's limping strangely down the hall with outstretched arms and a groaning drawl? A zombie! Could it really be? I hope he won't come after me!
You race to class, but turn to see he’s sitting in the desk right next to you!
But odds are you’ll probably be okay, because this is no ordinary zombie.
This zombie doesn’t want to eat your brains—he wants to eat your books! Hide your textbooks and your fairy tales, because the little zombie is hungry and he doesn’t discriminate between genres. Will the school library be devoured, or will the children discover something the zombie likes to do with books even more than eating them?
This monster book is silly and fun, with a strong message about kindness and friendship. The little zombie teaches kids not to jump to conclusions and to give everyone a chance. And when a real-life mummy shows up, the zombie is the first to step up and offer the mummy his friendship—and to teach her a few things about the joy of books. This is the perfect monster book for little ones who want a thrill but aren’t looking for anything too scary.
Who knew Zombies were bibliomaniacs? Lefranc's Zombie really likes books...except he eats them! Zombie is cuttin up at school, eating and devouring every book in sight. He tries to consume the classics in the school library. Well, that does it! Ya can't eat Frankenstein. Zombie must be stopped. The students are quick to respond, but double trouble arrives in the form of a mummy who needs re-wrapping. Never fear. These kids are clever.
I'm always searching for children books to add to my home library. I have one little who shares my passion for books. I use story time as a means to cuddle my girl. She doesn't have to know that. She just loves stories. Thankfully, she prefers to read her books, not eat them. And, with Halloween around the corner, this book is a yummy treat for little readers. Lefranc uses rhyming verse to tell the tale of a book-loving Zombie who's starving for knowledge. He's going about it the wrong way. Knowledge is power. Knowledge is not dinner. I recommend reading a book. However, try telling that to our resident ten-month-old. Hayes has munched on his fair share of books. Like Zombie, we're hoping the baby learns to appreciate books with his mind... not his mouth.
One last thing: Tyler Parker's illustrations are incredibly fun. Bright and witty, even littles that can't yet read will grasp the storyline. My kids loved the pictures. And, yes! Even Hayes the Bookie Monster was wide-eyed and curious.
Such a delightful zombie book. Thanks to my boyfriend for giving me this as a Christmas present! I loved it!
I have been eyeing this one for a year, if not more, I kept hoping for it to come out in paperback, but it never did, thankfully I got this one for Christmas.
Normally zombies would be all about brains, and more brains, but this one just wants BOOKS, books, and more books. And not to read, oh no, to eat. You can imagine what kind of chaos happens when you let this one loose in school, or even the library.
I felt sorry for the kids (they tried so hard to protect their favourite books), but also for the books, oh so much for the books. It was definitely fun to see what the kids tried to get the zombie to no eat/damage the books. They really tried a lot of ways to get the zombie to see the error of his ways.
The ending? I was a bit surprised, and at first I wasn't happy, but quickly that turned back to happiness and it was a nice little touch and I was happy for the zombie (and alos for the book).
The illustrations/art was wonderful, I loved how the zombie looked, and also the backgrounds were great. Definitely a style I wouldn't mind seeing more of.
All in all, this was a fun book. Definitely right for us book zombies. :P
What would you do if a zombie was at your school and started eating your books? A young boy, named Eric, on his way to school is followed by a large limping green zombie. It’s a zombie boy in his class who chomps on Eric’s science book then has a mid-day munch on a paperback. This zombie loves books and lets everyone know. “I want to eat your books!”
During a library visit something happens when Eric hands him a book about the brain. The zombie looks through the pages. He shouts “I want to read your books!” Suddenly a girlie mummy appears. She eats craft books and is looking for more, but the zombie boy comes to the rescue. What do you think happens next?
Author Karin LeFrance has created a hilariously fun rhyming tale that will become any new reader’s favorite. Easy to read sentences and oversized colorful illustrations truly bring the story to life. Parents and teachers will find this story to be a great interactive read-a-loud. Librarians will laugh-out-loud as they share this story at their library.
“I want to eat your books” is a very funny and cute story about the adventures of a group of kids and a zombie that only wants to eat books. The children get involved in a quest to try to save the school’s library when this very particular zombie starts devouring all genres, from non-fiction to horror and history.
Honestly, I laughed on every page of this book, it is very well written and it’s an entertaining story not just for children, but also for grownups.
Through this book, children will learn to take care of their books, to work as a team with a common goal, and to make a habit of reading.
I would recommend it to parents and teachers, as it’s a great tool for the classroom as well as a bed-time story. I’ll definitely save it for when my son is older.
This was an utterly adorable picture book about a mischievous zombie that doesn't want to eat brains, just books (which honestly, could be just as scary!) This little chiller had me smiling ear-to-ear, and the clever story, combined with excellent illustrations, made it an utter delight to read.
This is an adorable book about a little zombie who devours books. A little boy who's scared the zombie will eat his favorite book. Shows the zombie how fun it is to read books. We really enjoyed this book.
We love books that go great with the special occasions we celebrate. Halloween is a favorite of ours and I always do all I can to make it fun for my boys. One of the ways we make it fun is by reading fun books. Here is a great book that is great for anytime but absolutely great for Halloween (because of the zombie). If you and your kiddos are like us, who love to read, and love Halloween you should check out this book.
A zombie picture book...perfect for Halloween or for any time of year! The illustrations are adorable and the characters' love of books shines through as they defend their favorite stories from the zombie. They will have young readers falling in love with books as well!
There's a zombie on the loose at school! But he isn't after brains—he's hungry for books. All throughout the day, the zombie boy terrorizes the school, eating their textbooks and novels and occasionally screaming (much to the delight of my kids): "I WANT TO EAT YOUR BOOKS!"
Of course, this all comes to a head in the library. Our hero grabs a book about the brain (clever) and, surprise! The zombie wants to read it.
My kids love the silly book-munching zombie, and they enjoy my monster-impression when I'm saying its lines. The rhyming poetry is a welcome structure too.
The book takes a truly odd turn when a mummy girl bursts into the library and begins tearing books apart. It's implied that she's doing this because she is coming unwound. The zombie boy helps wrap her up with bandages and this ends her rampage. The story ends with them sitting nicely reading together. This plotting is bizarre and my kids can't follow it (nor can I), but they still enjoy the silliness of this story overall.
--- I review books for children from the perspective of a parent of kids with autism. The review above is part of a longer post about great picture books to read around Halloween: http://www.lineupthebooks.com/hallowe...
A new kid is in town and all he wants to do is eat your books... until the class goes to the library! Instead of eating the books he READS a book about brains! When the mummy comes and is tearing up books he helps fix her up and reads with her.
Good to use to talk about how to take care of books, obviously. But I would also use it to talk about student’s choice of books. He wanted to READ instead of eat the book that was interesting to him.
This fantastic picture book features a zombie that wants to eat your books but learns that they contain much more than he thought!! Fun rhymes paired with age-appropriate illustrations! This is the perfect read-aloud for Spooky Season!
Many thanks to the publisher for providing this ebook for free on Kindle. We enjoyed it a lot!
This was shelved as a Halloween book at my library, not because it mentions Halloween anywhere, but because it has a zombie and a mummy in it. I think the title is enough to earn it a place in any Halloween collection. What's more terrifying than a book-eater? (Well, I guess I can think of one person....)
When your students are really into all things spooky and monster-like, this book with a zombie main character allows a teacher to respond to the children's interests while still reading a quality story with a kind message.
Great for young kids who want a "scary" book that is actually not scary. Great for Zombie lovers. Although the subtitle states it is a fun Halloween Story, this book is actually not Halloween related. Not one time is Halloween referenced in either words or images. Bizarre
This little zombie didn't know how to read the books, so maybe he thought eating them was the right way to get through the stories? It has funny moments, good rhythm, cute characters and pretty illustrations. My child loved this book and was totally engaged in it.
