For best friends, Olive and Pear, a holiday dream trip to the Maldives is rerouted by Christmas magic in this charming new steamy holiday romance by authors, Eve Kasey and Mia Heintzelman.
One Christmas. Two Magical Love Stories.
Snowflakes in Seattle
What's worse than missing a Christmas Eve flight to the Maldives with your bestie because your plane may have "hit Santa?" Ending up in Seattle with nowhere to stay but an old houseboat that happens to belong to your childhood crush. Grownup Wyatt's all construction muscles and innuendo, and fate seems determined to keep me houseboat-bound with the man whose name I doodled with mine.
What if a place to stay for the night turns into a home with a man I don't want to leave?
Merry in Maldives
What's worse than being stuck on a daylong flight with the man who just fired you? Being stuck on a tropical island with him for the holidays. The remote Maldives and swanky seaside resort are a photographer's dream, but Mr. Comely, Calm, and Collected, Hollis James, keeps popping up in the frame, being all naughty and nice.
What if the Christmas wish for my person was someone I never expected?
If missing a holiday dream vacation means finding love, I’m all in. Eve Kasey and Mia Heintzelman’s duel Christmas detour novel is the gift that keeps on giving. I loved the secret crush and enemies to lovers tropes, fiery interactions between the heroes and heroines, and Olive and Pear’s sweet friendship. Mix that with the spontaneous moments of magic sprinkled throughout, and we’ve got everything we need for a great holiday read. If you love cozying up with a steamy Christmas book, then this is the one for you!
Olive & Pear's Christmas Detour features two interconnected companion novellas full of holiday cheer, with a side of sweet and spice. We meet best friends, Olive and Pear, who are on their way to the Maldives to celebrate the holidays, but the universe has other plans. Instead of bringing them a girls weekend, they find their true loves instead.
SNOWFLAKES IN SEATTLE by Eve Kasey This childhood friends to lovers age gap romance has a unique setting aboard a houseboat. Pear is stranded in Seattle and Wyatt comes to the rescue, offering her a place to celebrate Christmas. The pair are sweet and playful with each other and have an easy chemistry that builds into amazing sexual tension.
Pear is dedicated and driven, which turns Wyatt on, especially when she's sassy enough to speak her mind. It was refreshing to see a character empowering other women and minorities in a male-dominated industry such as construction. Instead of being intimated by Pear's accomplishments, Wyatt supports her every move, even if it means they might be broken apart.
MERRY IN MALDIVES by Mai Heintzelman In a fresh twist on a workplace romance, Olive is less than thrilled when she is seated next to none other than the co-worker that fired her and then took her assignment...or so she thinks. Once Hollis and Olive break down each others' emotional walls, they help each other find their purpose in life.
The pair have a great sense of humor, even in the steamy moments. Olive is a real spitfire and she gives Hollis a run for his money at every turn. The Maldives backdrop was to die for!
Olive & Pear's Christmas Detour is available on KU now!
What an adorable holiday read! Loved the concept! It's such a creative and fun idea: two best friends are supposed to spend Christmas together in the Maldives, but complications ruin their plans. Terrible weather strands Olive in Seattle on Xmas Eve and she has to stay with her childhood crush (swoon!) while Pear is on a flight seated next to her work enemy (he fired her!)
I don't want to give anything away because you have to read it, but this was such a fun read! Steamy and funny and touching and full of some fantastic romance tropes.
I really wanted to love this book. I enjoy these authors and love the concept of companion novellas. Unfortunately this one just didn’t work for me.
Overall premise is great, but it missed the mark in execution for me. I didn’t connect with any of the characters- which is always a risk with novellas. If you enjoy a quick burn, lots of spice, and HEA, give this one a shot.
Loved the concept - two friends setting out to take a Christmas trip to the Maldives - but after a few travel mishaps, one gets stuck in Seattle with a childhood love, and the other gets stuck on an island with her nemesis from work.
Lots of tropes in these stories- second chance love, enemies to lovers, age gap, forced proximity and one bed trope, quick burn…
Spice level 🌶🌶🌶🌶
Both love interests fell super hard and super fast, and without a lot of development. This didn’t work well for me personally because I didn’t find it believable. Again- I’d you like a quick to the point burn, this may work for you.
Stylistically I think there was too much random cursing in the first half of the book which made it feel like it was written by a man in college and didn’t fit with the plot. Both halves were quick reads and easy to follow.
I think both stories would have benefited from being a little longer to develop more of a backstory and a more natural cadence.
Let’s start with Olive’s story, which was…problematic: I’ve only seen one review mentioning the very BIG problem of talking about a trans girl ‘being a male’ in the past. A very quick and simple google search on ‘what not to do while talking to/about a trans person’ would have been sufficient to know that that’s one of those things that you don’t say about a trans person unless they’re fine with it. Also, it was so unnecessary, so why do it at all?
The male main character’s parents are a mess: the father cheated on the mother with his secretary…who he ended up marrying...and the former wife has forgiven and forgotten apparently. Why is the topic treated so lightly and minimised, as if it’s a normal thing? Again, this was totally unnecessary and random too.
The male character is so gross and weird when talking about/to Olive, he’s always talking about her ass and tits…is he a grown adult looking at a woman or a 12 year old in his first approach to porn? I don’t know! This man says the funniest things: “Hot damn, that body. Utterly perfect, every inch”. This is basically that Adam Levine DM. Then he gets horny looking at Olive washing the dishes: “Olive was bent over the sink, scrubbing at our plates, I had to physically grind my jaw together to stop the moan. Her ass in those pants”. God, he’s almost forty but behaves, thinks and talks like a creepy teenager, it’s embarrassing and gross. They eventually try to compensate with things like: “Fuck, her drive and her passion were incredible”. Yeah, that’s pathetic.
Let’s talk about Olive. She’s fine, I don’t have anything bad to say about her. However… So, Olive’s Korean. The guy who’s name I forgot takes her out to dinner…in a Korean restaurant. I’m Italian, and if a man took me out to dinner in an ‘Italian’ restaurant in AMERICA I’d ditch him so fast. Run girl.
The sex scenes were fine…except for the guy forgetting to put a condom on. But hey! She’s on the pill so everything’s fine, right? No. Another important topic treated as a triviality. They also fuck in a freshly painted room…have you ever smelled fresh paint? It’s very strong, very chemical, and very disgusting. Ten minutes of breathing in a freshly painted room are 100% going to give you a massive headache, multiple hours of fucking would just be unbearable and not hot at all.
What really made this story unbearable though, was the constant swearing. I’ve never had problems with swearwords in books because I myself swear a lot, but Jesus, this story was filled with ‘fuck’, ‘fucking’, ‘shit’ and so on, NOT counting the sex scenes. More than a hundred swearwords in the first story, not counting the sex scenes, is too much to make a pleasurable read, it became annoying as fuck after the first few chapters and further ruined the story.
Let’s move on to Pear’s story, which was mostly boring because of the pacing.
We’re introduced to the love interest first, and at first I couldn’t understand if they were female or male, since the name ‘Hollis’ didn’t ring any bells, and I just found out it’s gender neutral. Anyway, the relationship between Hollis and Pear is weird, because they’ve had a crush on each other for some time, but he ended up being the one to fire her, so she kinda hates him. But there’s a scene at the beginning of the story where he takes her hand randomly? We’re later told that he was trying to calm her but…what the hell? If a girl says she hates me, to take her hand is the last thing I’d think of doing; I wonder what mental process he went trough to think it was normal? They proceed to just stare into each other’s eyes? What? There were a few of these confusing behaviours from the characters, like all the laughing: Pear keeps meeting new people (that eventually disappear) and they always end up ‘breaking into a fit of laughter’…happy people are weird, man. One of these new acquaintances is a guy called Benicio, who appears like three times in the story and in two of these scenes he says ‘Aye-yi-yi’ and I really have no fucking idea of what that’s supposed to be. I’m genuinely confused, help.
Pear is a really weird person, I’m convinced she lives in another planet: first she starts this weird and long defence of mothers with little children on planes as if her life depends on it (my guess is that it may be a sensitive topic for the author); then, later on the story, she says: “while so many women drooled over pecs and shoe size, nothing got my libido throbbing like sculpted lower obliques”. Who the fuck drools over shoe size and pecs? This girl really thought she was onto something, uh. This whole ‘I’m not like other girls/guys’ is a constant in both stories, and I found it really annoying. Do we still need to evaluate ourselves by denigrating others? It’s such a childish thing, and the fact that it was brought up so many times, in what are supposed to be ‘adult’ stories, it’s sad.
The main problem of both stories was that I could not feel any kind of chemistry between the couples: in both stories, Olive and Pear were already crushing on these guys, but we’re simply told and no kind of chemistry is then shown between them to prove that. They never have a direct conversation, we’re always summarised the content of those, and then thrown into the sex scenes, much more detailed and graphic. I really have no issue with graphic sex scenes, but they are much more enjoyable when the tension and sexual drive is there. Also, they’re ALL seen from the male point of view. Every sex scene is in the male characters’ pov chapters. I don’t get why…? Overall they’re pretty bland stories, with no real conflict or tension provided by anything else but miscommunication, and for this reason they really took me too long to read, I just didn’t care for what was going to happen.
This review is a bit of a mess, but I really feel like I’ve wasted my time reading this book and I’m annoyed.
I received an eARC from the authors and this represents my honest opinion.
Olive's story: The bad. There was zero reason to deadname or misgender Holly. None. Knowing she is transgender is important later, but knowing her deadname was not.
The good. The nicknames, Little Olive and Old man could have come off as childish, mean, etc...but they didn't. You could sense the genuine affection each time they were used.
Pear's story. Needs some more editing, at least in the first couple of chapters. You, rather than your is used which makes sentence all sorts of wrong.
Overall, I enjoyed both stories. The deadnaming is the reason for only 3 stars.
4.5 rounding up because it was SO GOOD! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ARC Review - Out November 8th!!
To say I loved this duo is the understatement of the year! Olive & Pear’s Christmas Detour consists of 2 shorter stories- Snowflakes in Seattle and Merry in Maldives.
Olive and Pear and planning a BFF Christmas getaway to the Maldives, but Christmas magic has other plans for the duo. When Olive’s plane is grounded in Seattle, she scrambles for boarding and reconnects with an old family friend, who just happens to also be her long standing first crush. Pear makes it to the Maldives alone, her only company the steamy manager who recently fired her.
There was something so captivating and fresh about this duo of stories! I was completely enthralled from page one! One of my favorite romances of the year for sure.
Snowflakes in Seattle: crush, old friends, forced proximity, one-bed (kinda?) S T E A M Y, headstrong and confident leading lady
Okay, first off, where do I find myself a Wyatt? Because he is now the epitome of book boyfriends. I’m not kidding. He was definitely more cinnamon roll than grump, but his chemistry with Olive was off the charts. The banter, the spice, the nicknames. Snowy boat house rooftop boat parade watching? Utter perfection.
Merry in Maldives: enemies-to-lovers, semi-close-proximity (same resort), soul searching, steamy (but not nearly as much as SIS)
Hollis and Pear have amazing chemistry and I love their love of photography together. I really loved this story as well- but there were elements that were a bit deeper and with the Novella-esque pace I felt these moments were glossed over and like I was missing some helpful backstory. Beautiful story- but I didn’t connect as much with them.
Olive & Pear's Christmas Detour features two related holiday novellas by two authors. The books are connected, in that the leads are two best friends who get separated for Christmas after travel issues and end up having their own steamy adventures, but you can read them as standalones. In the first book, Olive ends up stranded at her childhood crush's house when her flight to the Maldives is cancelled. In the second book, Pear ends up in the Maldives with her ex-boss--who fired her--instead of her BFF. Both stories pack a punch in a short time frame and page count and are great for those looking for a spicier holiday romance. If you have Kindle Unlimited, they're definitely worth a read.
Thanks to the authors for my eARC! All thoughts and opinions are my own.
So this was exceptionally cute, thank you to the authors for my e-ARC. I love the idea of two author friends coming together to write novellas about two friends finding love over the Christmas period. These books are everything they promise to be - short, sweet and steamy. 4 stars.
Snowflakes in Seattle Olive is so close yet so far from a beautiful Christmas vacation with her best friend Pear, surrounded by sand, and spending her time basking in the sun. Little did she know things would take a turn and now she is stuck with her childhood crush.
Wyatt is all grown up now but life is full of boring meetings, quiet nights in the houseboat, and lots of video games. What will happen when little Olive lands on his doorstep and needs a place to call home for Christmas?
This novella was a fun and festive read with a hefty sprinkle of spice. Both main characters come from similar families and backgrounds which makes their ability to connect very clear. There were many wholesome moments that felt cute and cuddly and also some humorous bits that helped level it all out. I do wish we knew more about what the green smoke was! Yes, there are many theories, but it made me even more curious. A good read about how 2 childhood friends find their Christmas miracle together.
*Note: If you read other reviews, there are a few important things mentioned that have been recently edited so, in order to not be redundant, I did not mention them.
Merry in the Maldives Pear has been feeling a bit bah humbug after being fired from her dream job, so she decides to spend Christmas abroad with Olive. Sit back and relax with a fruit drink in hand and the sound of waves lulling her into relaxation. When things go awry and Olive can’t make it, Pear is forced to take this vacation alone… or so she thought. What can Pear do when the man who fired her shows up?
Hollis messed up. A new promotion sounded great, with more responsibility and bigger projects to work on. Things didn't end up that way, his new promotion started with firing people. Hollis is done, he can’t take any more of this job, not after firing Pear who loved her job and needed it. Time to throw reason out the window, hop on a plane, and figure out his life.
I found the deeper and more real moments in this novella added a lot to the characters and were written well. It was a slower-paced read but enjoyable nonetheless!
TW: Homelessness, job loss, death of a grandparent, and abandonment.
Title: Snowflakes in Seattle Author: Eve Kasey Hero/Heroine: Wyatt & Olive Tropes: Childhood Friends/Forced Proximity
Question: Where the hell do I get a Wyatt from? Can I ask for him for Christmas? Seriously, talk about swoon. Swoony McSwoonson. Swoon for days. I almost hit the deck I swooned that hard. He and Olive were such a great couple and complimented each other so well. I loved how even though Wyatt was a big softie, he had a hidden dominant side (which was very surprising I must say), and Olive was just an all round badass boss babe who was all about fairness and equality for women in the workplace. With the magic of Christmas and a boat load (see what I did there? IYKYK) of sweetness and steam, Snowflakes in Seattle was an absolute dream of a novella. This author just keeps getting better.
STEAL LEVEL: 🔥🔥🔥 STAR RATING: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Title: Merry in Maldives Author: Mia Heintzleman Hero/Heroine: Hollis & Pear Tropes: Enemies to Lovers
TW/CW: Mention of parental abandonment, mention of a poor upbringing,
Who doesn’t love a sort of enemies to lovers/workplace romance? Especially if it’s set in the Maldives during Christmas, talk about idyllic. Hollis and Pear have a bit of a past, one in which Hollis fired Pear from her job as a photographer at the magazine they both worked for. Cue awkwardness when Pear finds herself seated next to Hollis on her flight to the Maldives. But it was awkwardness in the best kind of way. Both characters were lacking in confidence and were tackling their fears of abandonment and lack of financial security. So when they finally give in to their feelings, it was so bloody adorable (and hot) that I found myself with the biggest smile on my face. This was a Christmas romance filled with magic, humour and heart and I adored every bit of it.
STEAM LEVEL: 🔥🔥🔥 STAR RATING: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thank you to the authors for providing me with a copy of this to read. This is my honest review.
Ok review edit because I finished Pear's story and I needed T I M E to take these two novellas in.
Eve and Mia are a dynamic DUO. I’m sorry, WHAAAT did I just read, I loved it so much 😍 I was confused at first because I haven't seen anything like this before but I absolutely loved this idea. Two talented writers flowing off one another and creating two beautifully written novellas. Ugh. My heart. <3
Eve and Mia paired up for T W O holiday novellas featuring best friends - Eve delivered Olive and Mia delivered Pear.
Olive and Pear are about to take the ultimate besties vacation to the Maldives when Olive's flight gets grounded because they may have hit Santa?! The Christmas magic was introduced beautifully in Snowflakes in Seattle and it was so sweet seeing Olive and Wyatt reignite their friendship ;)
While Olive is rooming with Wyatt - Merry in Maldives has Pear vacationing by herself … but she's not alone? The man who FIRED her is taking that flight too and he's convinced Pear hates him. What's worse? Pear is convinced of that too.
While Olive is cozying up in Seattle with Wyatt, Pear is sweating it off in the Maldives with Hollis. It was interesting watching these two (H + P) warm up to each other - and themselves - to get the preconceived notions out of the way.
These were both warm, cozy and hot novellas that flowed so beautifully from one to the other. I greatly appreciate the eARC from these beautiful ladies and I’m so sorry I’m a week late in my review 😭🙃 BUT I NEEDED TIME TO APPRECIATE THIS!
I think my biggest takeaway from these novellas was the M A G I C. That's such a strong theme throughout the pieces and it was so whimsical, absolutely enjoyed these. It was also my first read from Mia and Eve but I will definitely be looking for more to read from them in the future!
Two novellas of best friends that didn’t get the Christmas vacation they had planned together. They learn is not about what, but who you wish for (and get) for Christmas. Olive and Pear planned to spend the holidays with each other in the Maldives. But that plan was turned upside down when Olive is stranded in Seattle.
Snowflakes in Seattle is written by Eve Kasey and the first vacation we go on. Threw a serious of unfortunate events Olive is stranded in Seattle but with some Christmas magic reunited with a her childhood crush, Wyatt. There’s chemistry, tension, witty banter, adorable nicknames, and spice. Olive doesn’t want to disrupt Wyatt’s Christmas and the days to follow. But her wants to give her an amazing Christmas even though it’s not the one she has planned. His thoughtful actions do just that and more. He will have you swooning.
We know how Olive’s Christmas turns out. But what about Pear? Our second vacation finds us with Pear - Merry in Maldives by Mia Heintzelman. Pear hoped to use this vacation as time to recover and do some soul searching after recently being fired from her job. But in a strange twist of fate she finds herself seated next to the man, Hollis, that fired her. Of course they would be at the same resort as well. They are both guarded people and their past play a lot into who they are & how they act. The development between them is wonderful. I wouldn’t consider them really enemies but there is animosity. Coupled with a secret crush they both have had towards each other; you have the right amount of tension for a perfect storm. Will this crush be stronger then the grudge they have?
Both are heartwarming stories that have me looking forward to the magic of Christmas already.
Thank you Eve and Mia for the ARC copy. I’m ready for the magical season that is fast approaching.
❤️2 Tropes ❤️2 Happily Ever Afters ❤️Lots of steam ❤️Christmas magic
Where do I even begin? I absolutely loved everything about these stories! They check all the boxes for a spicy rom com. You will fall in love with the 4 main characters and feel so giddy following along on their journeys.
Snowflakes in Seattle by Eve Kasey Swoon!! This story swept me off my feet and took me away to a little houseboat in Seattle where Olive unexpectedly gets to spend time with her childhood crush Wyatt. I absolutely loved seeing how their relationship evolved and the chemistry between them is insane! Be prepared for lots of steamy scenes! And the Christmas Vacation movie references! Ahh So perfect!!!
Merry in Maldives by Mia Heintzelman Such a steamy and fun story!! I loved the banter and the sexual tension that just builds and builds between Hollis and Pear. Their chemistry is sizzling hot. I think my favorite scene had to be the mermaid experience! I could picture it so vividly in my mind and it was so funny yet so sexy! I loved the ending and I couldn’t stop smiling!
It's snowing already where I am. The right weather for the perfect detour this Christmas!
Eve and Mia blessed us with these beautiful, steamy and fun interconnected novellas that will make you take a detour to Swoon Town that you cannot miss!
For starters, can we talk about how pretty and cozy is this cover? Just as the clever titles of each novella got me from the get go, only to find two incredible heroines who went after what they wanted and two sweet heroes who worshipped the ground they walked on and will melt your heart. Both stories full of steam, fun, adventures and the magic of Christmas.
Olive and Pear had plans, but the spirit of Christmas and Cupid apparently had others. They would have to experience Christmas in completely opposite settings but falling in love just as hard!
Snowflakes in Seattle
Aaahhh nothing steals my heart more than an old crush becoming reality in a book! These two were childhood friends who were crazy about each other since forever and this little setback in Olive's trip made the love bloom! I loved their awkward moments, how straightforward they were with each other and the fact that they had zero filter to tell each other what they wanted and needed despite being so shy. Prepare to fan yourself with this story because OMG! They get down to business in the hottest way!
Merry in Maldives
This was such a sweet and sexy enemies to lovers that put a smile on my face. Misunderstandings and wrong impressions that needed to be straightened out, adventures in the swooniest tropical setting. I really loved how Pear made Hollis work for it the entire time, even if her anger was due to a misunderstanding, the tension it created was fun and the build up towards the magical happy ending was perfection!
This was a cozy, swoony and page turning read I cannot recommend enough. It's now available in KU. A million thanks to Mia and Eve for gifting me an advance digital copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This was like a two for one book! I enjoyed both stories, and really like how they intertwined. First up was Olive and Wyatt’s story. This one was my favorite of the two. Who doesn’t love a little Christmas magic in their love story? It was spicy and had a nice storyline that had me making time to sneak off and read. Both characters were believable and easy to love! I found myself rooting for them from the first moments. I enjoyed the nicknames and now want a houseboat! Next up was Pear and Hollis’ story. This one didn’t have as much spice and seemed to skim the surface at times, but the merman and villa restroom floor scenes were some or my favorites! I enjoyed the moments that made me laugh out loud and how it all wrapped up for them! Both were written in dual perspective which I have grown to love and prefer! Overall, this was a quick enjoyable read and a great Christmas feel rom-com to get me in the holiday mood!
Best friends, Olive and Pear, plan to celebrate Christmas together in the Maldives; but due to a rare phenomenon (or Christmas magic?) they have separate holiday experiences.
Kasey pens the story of Olive, who gets stranded in Seattle when Santa grounds all of the planes, where there are no hotel rooms available, so she winds up staying with her childhood family friend Wyatt on his houseboat. It’s supposed to only be for one night. But Olive and Wyatt aren’t too sad when she has to stay longer and the houseboat heats up in the cold Seattle Winter as these lifelong crushes finally act on their desires. Their story is sweet and cute with a nice back story that enhances the connection. (The authors give warning that this is an open door romance, but I have to say this one was too much for me.)
Heintzelman brings to life Pear’s part of the Christmas holiday. She actually gets to go to the Maldives, but is unfortunately stuck there with her enemy from her former job, Hollis James. But maybe there had just been miscommunication? They realize they’ve secretly been crushing on each other for a long time, and now they’re free to act on it. But their insecurities and miscommunication might still get in the way. More freak weather and Christmas magic help push these two together for more heat in the Maldives.
I like how these authors worked together to weave these two stories into a cohesive book. I love the support that Pear and Olive are for each other. I wish I could see them together in the same place, but they still connected when they needed each other. The love stories are sweet and fun - and very spicy. Outside of my comfort zone, but I can still say they are good stories and the authors accomplish what they’re going for.
This is a great book for readers looking for a fun, spicy holiday romance with great locations, good friendships, and not only one, but two, happily ever afters!
** Thankful to the authors for an ARC of this book. Writing this honest review on my own accord.
Both of these novellas give off the perfect spicy holiday romances! Olive and Wyatt have the perfect childhood lovers, small town romance vibe. Pear and Hollis have that banter, enemies to lovers romance vibe. I loved watching the romance play out in both of these books that started out whacky and nothing like Olive or Pear had wished. The Christmas magic felt so real and authentic as I read these love birds fall for each other. This was the perfect spicy hallmark like book, and you get 2 love stories instead of 1. I would love to see how the four of them interact since Olive and Pear are besties, maybe they’ll all have Christmas with each other next year?
Thank you to Eve Kasey and Mia Heintzelman for allowing me to ARC read this masterpiece! 10/10 going to read every Christmas to remember the magic!
Two books in one...two best friends get diverted on their friends trip and end up with 2 of the most amazing, magical and hot heas of the season. Eve and Mia really set the bar with these two amazing stories and that's why I always come back for more when they're writing. Highly recommended holiday reads.
Olive and Pear are best friends and they had planned to spend their Christmas together on a dream holiday in the Maldives. However, things don’t go as planned when Olive finds herself stranded in Seattle and has to find a place to stay for the night. When the airport doesn’t open because of a snowstorm she is forced to stay put for more than just one night – but since the only available accommodation was the houseboat of a family friend, who happens to be her teenage crush, Olive ends up wishing she could stay longer than just a day or two. Or three. Meanwhile in The Maldives Pear is determined to enjoy her time on the paradise island without her best friend, even though one of her travelling companions turns out to be the insufferable man who fired her a little while ago. But as they are forced to spend more time together – the islands are pretty small after all – both Pear and Hollis come to realize that they may have read each other wrong and the best Christmas present might be the person standing right in front of them.
I loved both of these stories and their settings – since I’ve been to Seattle in the summer and in the fall I would love to go there in December, too, and The Maldives… well, who wouldn’t love to go there!?! – and I felt like the two stories complemented each other perfectly. Both Olive and Pear were wonderful characters, and Wyatt and Hollis – swoon! If you are looking for wonderful Christmas stories with some magic and quite a lot of steam look no further! Thank you Eve Kasey and Mia Heintzelman for this wonderful holiday gift!
These two novellas were perfect for the holiday season. Sweet and spicy. I liked the first one just slightly more than the second, so and average of 4.25 stars.
I would firstly just like to say a big thank you to the author’s who very kindly forwarded me an arc copy of their book, for my kindle, in return for my honest review.
Olive and Pear’s Christmas Detour is a Christmas book made up of two shorter novellas, Snowflakes In Seattle by Eve Kasey and Merry In Maldives by Mia Heintzelman and i think that it worked really well.
If you love a steamy Christmas read then this book is definitely the one for you!
In the first story I really enjoyed Olive and Wyatt’s chemistry and I loved that they had nicknames for each other, Little Olive and Old Man, so so cute!
Both of these stories were very well written and I devoured both of them very quickly. They were short, sweet and steamy and had me giggling along in quite a few places…..
Two best friends who are supposed to go on an epic trip together, end up having their own adventures separately. I wish that we had been able to read more about the backstory of their friendship. I liked the "Snowflakes in Seattle" story a little more than "Merry in Maldives". The stories were interconnected basically because Olive and Pear are friends that didn't get to go on their trip. I found it difficult to get invested in their friendship due to the small amount of contact between the two(phonecall). Hence the wish that there was a story or two about them, even a flashback would have been nice.
Holidays romances are always the best, throw in an unexpected vacation interruption, a childhood crush, unfulfilled desires and a little Christmas magic and you’ve got a great story. Olive and Wyatt are everything. I lost some sleep dying to finish their story. It was worth it.
Pear and Hollis’ story Falls into an enemies to lovers troupe with a slight misunderstanding and a grown man ending up in a mermaid fin. This storyline was too cute and makes it hard to believe the magic of Christmas isn’t real.
I absolutely love the concept of this book - two friends who were supposed to spend the holidays together but were separated by circumstances beyond their control … that lead to love! Forced proximity is one of my favorite tropes, and Olive & Wyatt’s childhood crushes come to fruition was the stuff of romance fantasy. And I’ll take a good enemies-to-lovers tale any day of the week! Two stories, one fantastic holiday romance experience. Highly recommend!
The two stories are full of adventure. I don't want to spoil anything, so I'll get right to the point. Read this book with a hot beverage near. These characters are indeed something. I mean that last sentence in the best way possible. I highly recommend reading this book!
Olive and Pear’s Christmas Detour, by Eve Kasey & Mia Heintzelman. This was two novellas in one and I totally dig the concept. All Olive and Pear want to do is escape their lives for a bit and head to the Maldives for Christmas. Unfortunately one gets stranded, and the other is stuck with a man who just fired her. Pick up if you enjoy ::
❄️ Forced proximity 🫶🏻 Childhood friends to lovers 🔥 Enemies to lovers 🌶 Spicy scenes 🤫 Secret crush 💚 Age gap ❤️ Holiday romances
Overall Rating :: 3.5 ⭐️s.
⚠️ Check CW’s prior to reading. Thank you to for sending an ARC for an honest review. Olive and Pear’s Christmas Detour releases today on Amazon & KU.
I absolutely loved this book! This is a book with two stories that will make you feel loved, warm and believe in magic again. The Christmas kind of magic with green dust 😉. In one story we follow Olive who gets snowed in in Seattle on her way to spend Christmas with her friend Pear in the Maldives. Instead of a beach hut she crashed at her childhood crush's houseboat and winter suddenly becomes very hot. In the other story Pear has to travel to the Maldives alone and instead of sitting next to her BFF on the plane she is stuck with her ex-boss who just recently fired her. But somehow Pear had it all wrong and the paradise island melts her heart the same way her ex-boss does. I won't tell you if there is a HEA but if you know any of the two authors, rest assured, they are living up to their past writing. And if you are new to both authors, make sure to read their other stuff, too.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Arc Review - Out November 8th! I loved this book! Olive and Pear’s Christmas Detour consists of two interconnected stores : Snowflakes in Seattle and Merry in Maldives! This book tells the stories of two best friends, Olivia and Pear, are stranded in two different places for Christmas and find love in the most unexpected ways. Snowflakes in Seattle has tropes of childhood crush, forced proximity, only one bed! Merry in Maldives has tropes of enemies to lovers, forced proximity, and workplace romance! I loved that whole both books were different in many ways, but they still were tied together! This book made me smile, laugh and more! Overall, 4 out of 5 stars!
