Star Trek (2022-) #2 - The Mystery Behind The "God" Attacks Deepens
Captain Sisko is deep in Klingon space looking for the perpetrator behind the "God" attacks when he comes across an old friend in this issue of IDW's new Star Trek ongoing monthly title. Jackson Lanzing and Collin Kelly have an incredible grasp on the Star Trek Universe that is just mind blowing! It's nice to see them weave a tight tapestry here that connects to other previous Star Trek comic book stories. You don't have to have read those other stories in order to enjoy this issue though.
But it would help just for further enjoyment of this story and also to understand how the Klingon Empire is in the position they're in within this story. Ramon Rosanas' artwork is absolutely beautiful to look at. I can't wait to start issue #3 now 🙂🖖!
This issue was an improvement on the first, principally due to being past the set-up phase and into the action. Given that the best Trek deals with issues from a philosophical perspective and leaves battles as a last resort, mirroring that in comics can result in some story drag. Having familiar television characters leading the way, however, somewhat makes up for this as I could hear the voices of Avery Brooks, Brent Spiner, etc. while reading.
Another familiar character is brought in during this issue and, unlike some of the appearances in the first, works organically in the context of the story. With luck, future appearances of legacy characters are as much a product of story dictates as this.
It's only issue 2 but the mashed together crew is starting to shape up as they face the "god-like" Shapers. Shivers run down my spine at the thought of their forthcoming encounter.
