I Want My Daddy

Rate this book
A 5-year-old boy, Ethan, is brought to Casey in the middle of the night after the sudden death of his young mother after a drug overdose.

Estranged from her parents, Ethan’s mum had been abused by her ex-partner, and began taking drugs to cope. Ethan is obviously lost and bewildered, and regularly wakes up screaming for his mum in the night. He begins to lash out at other kids at school and his behaviour becomes more volatile. When arrangements are made for Ethan to see his dad in prison, Casey recognises the name and face… It turns out she’s far more familiar with this case than first imagined.

Casey Watson's book 'Little Girl Lost' was a Sunday Times bestseller w/c 2024-03-25.

The book is about a tragedy in which a young mum loses her battle with heroin and leaves her 5 year old son Ethan motherless which in itself is harrowing. The child’s estranged grandparents and father Jack (Justin) become reunited through this ordeal.

The child is fostered by Casey the writer and I didn’t see this coming but the father of the child was also fostered by them. This book was an easy read and it had a feel good factor about it that something went right in the face of harrowing circumstances.

loved this easy read

I really enjoyed this book, I love real life genre and this one was a feel good with a happy ending but my favourite parts was the humour that came over in the book some parts I literally laughed out loud.

This is the first Casey Watson book I have rated less than 5 stars. It was also the first book of hers that I listened to instead of actually reading, and I believe the narrator ruined it for me. Her voice was extremely heavily accented, and it just wasn't easy to listen to. And I usually love a good English accent. But this one was just way too much. Also, this book was just boring until Justin came into the picture. Also, Casey breaches into fiction in chapter 8, where she tells the story of a dead woman she never met. Sorry, but that just doesn't belong in a memoir. I am hoping that all of her books don't have the same narrator because I won't be able to listen to any more of them if they are. Oh, and one more thing. How could nobody, not Casey or Mike or the social workers or Justin, not be worried about the fact that Broken's parents might be abusive and, therefore, not the best people to raise Ethan. If Broken was a drug addict and called her parents shit bags, there's probably a reason for that. They probably abused their daughter, and chances are they could abuse their grandson as well, and I just think it's really irresponsible for nobody in Ethans life to have considered this.

Another fab read from the amazing Casey Watson.
Would recommend that anyone who reads this to read the story The boy no one loved first.

The book was amazing but then I expected nothing less.

On a personal level, I love how the children are at the heart of this fostering process for the watson and how down to earth Casey is.

I enjoy the less structured and formal approach of the fostering process as well. I love Casey writing and the voyage we travel with her on each and every child she writes about.

Such an emotionally gripping book and one I couldn’t wait to find out the end result!

To her fans enjoy!

OK, this is basically a flight of fancy, but it has some great moments. I love the character Casey creates for herself, and although I can't accept all the elements of the story are rooted in fact, they are interesting food for thought. Plus, I love her house. And her discussions with her husband Mike. And her capacity to view the world through the lens of her children or grandchildren to try and remain relevant.

But the woman who read the story - jakers. WAY TOO MUCH EMPHASIS. See how it gets a bit much?

I Want My Daddy. by Casey Watson.
Ethan is a very scared 5 year old boy who has been brought to Casey after a very earlier hours call to her … he has found his mother dead on the floor at home when he has got up to use the bathroom! Of course information is very scarce and Casey needs to navigate through this all with only snippets of information being given … not that much is known about him … but soon things are coming out that is not all good.
A great read …

An enjoyable read but I couldn't help but feel what happened with her foster child ending up being her previous foster child's son was a bit unbelievable. It could have happened and been a huge coincidence but it left me feeling it was made up for effect . I still read it in 24 hours so it's a good read just not convinced it's all true!

Emotional but with a happy ending …

Another excellent story from Casey Watson. I often recommend her book to prospective foster parents - they’re almost like a workbook on what to expect.

Beautifully written. Every book in this series is better than the last. This one is especially heartwarming.

I wish all Casey's books get published audibly.
