The heroine:Katherine - she is a human female who mated an Orc Warrior named Tarfu who has been missing and presumed dead for three years. During that time, Katherine had their baby boy and had been deeply grieving her lost love. Though her friends and other Orc’s in the village have been pushing her to move on from Tarfu and start dating again. She didn’t want to but finally succumbed to the pressure and agreed to go out on a date with someone new.
The Hero:Tarfu - he is an Orc who mated and married a human female. He was over the moon when he found out that she was pregnant with his child. Though within a week of finding out, he had to leave the village to check out a new enemy clan that was camping out on their lands. He and his platoon were expected to return within a few weeks. Though while on the mission, they are ambushed.
The Story: Tarfu’s battalion was overconfident, as they are attacked by the other clan of Orc’s. Being an established clan, they have plenty of warrior’s and a huge cache of weapons. But this other clan had so many more warriors, plus more and better weapons. Tarfu finds himself fighting on the front lines when his superiors call for a retreat. He can’t turn his back on the enemy at this point, and so he fights on while the others in his clan are able to retreat. He ends up surrounded by his enemies and beaten badly, resulting in many broken bones, then taken captive. He is imprisoned by the other clan for three years.
After two weeks of searching, the Orc’s tell Katherine that they have to assume he is dead. She didn’t believe them, and didn’t know how to go on without Tarfu, though after so much time had passed, she acknowledged that he wouldn’t be coming home. Some of the other people in the village spread rumors of Katherine being a loose woman since she hadn’t been visibly pregnant before Tarfu disappeared. Though as much as the other women tried to get her to date and be happy, she couldn’t bring herself to do it for a long time.
I wasn’t quite sure why this was called The Orc Warrior’s Secret Baby, since Tarfu knew about the baby from the time Katherine did. But I did like the premise of the story, with Tarfu having been captured and thought to be killed by enemies. Though despite the name, the story was good. Especially because Tarfu didn’t believe that Katherine would date or mate with another Orc. He knew how much she loved him and thought that she would rather be alone with his memory than with someone else. But when he finally escapes and returns home, he finds her out on a date.
The setup hits a whole storm of emotional pressure points—grief, loyalty, betrayal (or the fear of it), and the ache of missed time. Celeste King captured the heartbreak and quiet resilience in Katherine’s character so well. And Tarfu’s faith in her devotion, even through years of pain and isolation? That’s the kind of emotionally rich payoff that readers crave. It almost feels like the “secret” in The Orc Warrior’s Secret Baby isn’t about him not knowing—it’s the rest of the world who either doubted or dismissed their bond, right?
There’s something particularly poignant about the reversal of expectations: instead of coming home to triumph or reunion, Tarfu walks straight into the painful ambiguity of a woman trying to honor both love and survival. I can’t help but feel for Tarfu who would definitely feel gut-punched by how alive Katherine looked after he’s been crawling through hell? And for Katherine, with how she reconciles the man she mourned with the hardened survivor who just returned. Tarfu is suffering from PTSD as well and has a lot of anger from the time he was away.
This audiobook was narrated from multiple perspectives, done in dual narration by Midnight Michael and Mia Madison. Mia has a good voice, it is a bit deeper than a lot of female narrators, so her voice for male characters wasn’t as bad as some, though she is a bit monotone at times and speaks slower than I like. I don’t think I ever heard Midnight Michael before, but I searched him in audible and it seems he does the narration for a lot of books with African-American characters, so I was hoping he had a nice deep voice which would fit the Orc character well and I was correct, his voice is super-deep and perfect for Tarfu.
It’s a good story esp if you need a break bt dark romances or erotica etc.
The title is not accurate tho. The baby isn’t a secret. At all. Like he knows she is pregnant. Then he has to go to war or something and gets kidnapped but the other orcs think he is dead. In fact, a more accurate title would be “Orc Goes MIA, Finally Gets Home Years Later to His Mate & Baby, Only to Behave Like an Ass”. Or something like that.
Back to the story. She waits. And waits. And waits. 3 years of being alone. Apparently bc she turns away other orcs who want to hook up with her, they spread rumors that she is a loose woman. 🙄ok then. She is in mourning and misses her man but these idiots are gonna go and be butthurt.
Then her friends, after almost 3 years of her being alone, FORCE her to go on a date with some orc dude. I don’t like this at all. But she goes. And then. OF COURSE her orc mate, Tofu or something, finally shows up. And OF COURSE he goes apeshit and gets mad, thinking she is cheating on him. ❎
Ok then you jackass. You may have been in captivity but she was raising your kid on her own and you are expecting her to just be alone? Yeah. Yeah he was. And tbh I get it. BUT SHE was alone. Raising his kid ALONE. And he believes the other orcs who call her a whore. And continues to go all Rambo on poor guys who look her way.
He was a total and complete jerk to her. For no reason at all. The author tried to build this story around his anger and misunderstanding of what he had initially walked up to (her date) but it didn’t work for me. His anger wasn’t justified and it wasn’t until you get later into the book that anyone decides to help him and explain.
None of the book made sense to me. Secret baby? Nah. Secret Asswipe. But I read it. And I enjoyed it. So. Yeah. 🥴😂😂🙋🏻♀️🙋🏻♀️🙋🏻♀️

I enjoyed this book. Great world building and wonderful characters. Katherine and Tarfu were completely in love and going to have a baby. When he was captured in an ambush, he was assumed dead in the three years he was held prisoner. Katherine lost the will to live without him, living only for her son and holding out hope that he was still alive. When her friends dress her up and literally push her out the door on a date, she is reluctant and trying to figure out how to turn him down without hurting him. Tarfu escapes and makes his way home, only to find her out with another orc, and widespread rumors of her infidelity. This story focuses on the two of them reconnecting emotionally, and Tarfu dealing with his suspicions and feelings of rage and betrayal, as well as memories of his capture. 4 stars.
This was a great story that takes Katherine, a human gal, and Tarfu, her orc mate, and puts them through the wringer. Tarfu was taken prisoner by another band of orcs and held captive for three years. Katherine and their son are being pressured to let go of all thoughts of Tarfu returning and move on. Of course, Tarfu does return but his captivity changed him and jealousy became a live thing for him. What followed was the dynamic of two people in love that have to find a way with the new developments in their individual lives. You can expect a good read with lots of drama, hope, suspense and a steamy, yet touching, romance. These fab characters deserved an HEA and I enjoyed following them along this new path life has thrown at them :D
Wow so this really had me in my feelings. A lot of this is soooo sad. I was so frustrated with the way things were going. I felt like the transition from major conflict to resolution was so rushed. I needed to see way more contrition from Tarfu before getting to the spice and the happiness again. Honestly, I was pretty pissed at her friends too for setting the whole situation up and that was never even addressed. I did love Katherine’s character. She was incredible and such a good mom to Leo. But overall I was so frustrated with the story it was hard to enjoy.
This book had you pulling at the heart strings as you believe the man you married and loved is dead but you have trouble moving on. Katherine is a human that marries an Orc named Tarfu and they are very happy and soon she is pregnant but before he finds out he is sent on a scouting mission because another group of Orc’s are on there land and she thinks nothing of it until they don’t return after a week and then a couple of months and then a year and it almost broke her but she had to be strong for there son Leo who is just like him and she tells him all about his father and still mourns his loss. Now her friends set her up on a date with another Orc but she’s not interested but goes to keep them happy but when her husband Tarfu returns after 3 yrs he is furious and jealous and confronts them both and it doesn’t end well. Tarfu leaves on a mission for his clan but they are ambushed and captured and was tortured daily but he survived by thinking of his mate to keep him alive and when he finally escaped it has been 3 yrs and returns to his mate but it seems she has taken another Orc male and he confronts them both and he is furious with jealousy at her and tells her so but when she tells him he has a son and he is unsure that he is the father but when he meets Leo for the first time he knows straight away that he is his son and is so happy and sad at the same time because he lost his mate but gained a son. When Tarfu keeps pushing her away she is hurt and feels the betrayal and lack of trust he has in her is worse than the thoughts she had about him being dead. Tarfu is shocked when his own son tells him how hard it’s been for his mum while he was gone and that she refused to date anyone but her friends set her up on a date and that’s what you saw when you finally came home, she never let you go. Can Tarfu make it right with his mate and be the family he always wanted or will the hurt and pain he caused her be to much for her to forgive him. To get these answers and so much more get this amazing book.

I enjoyed this story but I have to say, I don't believe Katherine when she said that she wouldn't have kissed Sarod in the alley. She definitely would have, but what solidified it for me was when internally she said I don’t know exactly what I’m expecting from Tarfu. Maybe some gratitude for doing so well raising Leo alone these past two years, or keeping his home in order, or for making his favorite meal of asparagus and venison. For remaining faithful, despite the misunderstanding with Sarod. It was nothing. Less than nothing. And after three years of thinking he was dead, how could I have guessed he’d find me like that?
And then a few pages later told her friend "And I feel more lonely than I did when he was gone," I continue. "Like, I held out against everything else, and I was fine. But I was getting ready to move on, maybe feel something again.
So up until this point she tries to convince us and herself that she is in no way shape or form ready to even try moving on. That was clearly not true at all.

Tarfu (H) and Katherine (h) are a happily mated orc-human couple who’ve just found out they’re expecting. He’s called battle alongside his Burning Sun clan members but is lost in the fight – his clan believes him dead, but he’s actually imprisoned for three years. Katherine refuses to give up hope that one day Tarfu will return to her and their son, until one day happens and then they have to rediscover their relationship together. Really touching romance with Tarfu and Katherine having to overcome all that’s come between them. Ultra-hot and steamy sexy action. Lovely second book in the Secret Babies of Prothekan Orc Warriors series.
Tarfu is a skilled Orc warrior, prepared to fight in defense of his clan, and his mate... determined to return home to the life they are building together.

This is a very good story that's about Katherine whose mate, Tarfu, was declared dead after a battle with a rogue Orc tribe. Tarfu ends up being a captive and three years later escapes and returns. Kathrine never believed Tarfu was dead and has been faithful and raising their child. Only Tarfu sees Katherine with an Orc when he arrives. This brings distance and misunderstandings in their relationship. Can they overcome and reunite? Love this story, it's a touchily, heartfelt, and enjoyable story that I received a copy and that I volunteer to read and review.
Unconditional love! I love anything to do with the Burning Sun Clan... These evils are so fiercely protective of their mates and offsprings... And it's so sweet to watch them fight for what they love. Tarfu and Katherine are no exception. A story with romance, a bit of angst, a couple with hits and misses but with a lot of love and a lot of lust.
