Percy Jackson meets Romeo and Juliet.
Heaven is not what Kai imagined. What surprises him isn’t the mythical beasts running free, scorching drought, or the misguided reputation he has as a hero by stranger and family alike. He only imagined his true love, Sophia.
Reuniting with her isn’t a goal — it’s everything. To rescue her from the perilous city of Asphodel and spend eternity together in Elysium, Kai makes a deal with the mortal council that speaks for missing gods.
Save heaven. Save Sophia.
Kai must confront a scourge of myths — creatures created from the desires of those unsatisfied with an imperfect afterlife. However, Kai is no Hercules. Instead, he has a unique ability to speak with so-called monsters, ranging from ancient mythologies to new legends.
Yet, despite his successes, the council stalls and Kai is faced with the choice between heaven, family, and glimpses of his love at the fence between cities. Each stolen moment risks more than being cast out. If they’re caught together, they’ll be separated by more than a fence.
Torn between duty and love, Kai must overcome more than myth before heaven burns and love decays into death.

This book did not disappoint! This is a must read for fantasy lovers. I was drawn into the storyline quickly and finished the book within a week.
The author Darius Ebrahimi takes you on an epic journey with the main character Kai - as he does all he can to take on gods, myths and other obstacles to regain his lost love Sophia. The book’s descriptive imagery and rich prose paints a distinct picture of Elysium and Asphodel as well as the inhabitants that leaves you wanting for more.
I can’t wait till the next edition drops in late 2023 or 2024: Against All Gods, Book Two of the Seed of Yggdrasil.
The story of an unsanctioned relationship harshly punished, and a main character with a hero complex who will literally go to hell and back to save the one he loves.
I have not read the first book of this series and I do not think I ever will even try. This book has a LOT of concept problems. If someone bought this book thinking it has mythical storylines, they would stop reading within the first four chapters. If you want people to buy the series as a whole, there should at least be a prologue that explains the world concept and/or the main character. Having to piece together the entire first book makes a reader to get too much regret over having bought this book separately. It would likely be only a few paragraphs to fix the problem, but the lack of this gives the reader the idea that the author is too lazy, or, at the very least, only interested in making a book that clearly isn't complete so they can make money as if this were a movie Hollywood got greedy with.
I'm not sure what to rate this one. I received a copy as part of a Goodreads giveaway; which I entered because the blurb had me really, really interested in the story.
I've made it about 5 or 6 chapters in and I'm going to have to set it aside, at least for now. I felt a little lost- there was so much information thrown at me while also having so little info I wanted given at the same time.
I've put this at a 2 star because I think the concept has really great potential, but for me personally I had to dnf. I'm hoping to eventually finish & give an accurate rating for the book as a whole
