Sweet, sexy, and a bit suspenseful! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ If there is one thing that comes to mind when I read a book from this author it is that Foster knows how to write passion and pour on the heat like no other!
From the very beginning of this book you get drool worthy descriptions of Jack that just beg to be read. With such detail and heat, you can just picture this man in all his glory!
I loved the perfect match up with Ronnie. She is tough on the outside, but a softie inside. Edgy and a bit of a bad-ass, together with Jack, sparks fly. Then throw in some great suspense and you have a book that is wonderfully entertaining, sexy, and a tad sweet too. A perfect combination!
Foster does herself proud on this new release. Definitely one to grab for a good time!
First Date: Ronnie Ashford hasn't led a blessed life, but she loves her job working for eccentric twins who collect oddities. After a scare during a purchase the twins want her to hire muscle and tomorrow morning she has an interview with Jack Crews. Tonight she just wants to get lost so she can get a good nights sleep, free from the nightmares that plague her. Jack and his brother own a transportation company but he has spent the day rehabbing his new homestead and grabs a beer and some food at the town's only pub. When he walks in Ronnie decides that the rugged hunk is exactly the distraction she needs. No names. just a night of bliss. All hopes of a good night sleep end when Ronnie realizes he is Jack Crews. And just like that I am hooked! The story follows the same formula as Drivin to Distraction, but the ride was a good one! Second Date: Jack has a meeting with a Ron Ashford this morning but he cannot stop thinking about the feisty blonde who slipped away last night. She isn't his type but has gotten under his skin. Ronnie steals herself for their encounter and oh man was this second date fun. I loved the banter, the manipulation and the twists. Ronnie doesn't want or need help, or at least that is her outward persona and I enjoyed watching the walls around her facade crumble. Foster introduces a suspenseful thread and provided one heck of a backstory. Third Date: SSizzling hot chemistry gave way to more ast they work together. When it looks like someone is targeting Ronnie, Jack steps up to protect her. I loved that despite the fast pace; the romance felt like a slow-burn, with character growth, trust building and firsts. The suspense built as Foster threw some twists our way and I devoured the second half of their story in one sitting..
So far this series hasn't been a bit hit for me. Part of the reason if I find the jobs that they guys help on to be strange and creepy. I realize that people do collect odd things, but that someone would have such a collection to employ people full time is bizarre to me. That whole part of the story just turns me off.
I did like Ronnie, with her prickly exterior so wanting to belong some where, any where. With Jack and his family she found her place, although she fought it for a great while. But once Ronnie gave in, she embraced the whole Crew clan and found her own special spot in it. I loved how the women bonded, loved how Brodie let Ronnie have her time with the animals and how he backed up Ronnie and Jack on a few runs.
I really liked how Jack did his best to let Ronnie know how much he liked her from the start and wouldn't let her run away. When she tried Jack was right there pulling her back in. As much as it bothered Jack, he let Ronnie take the lead on jobs because he knew she needed that.
The ending had me smiling, loved how they all were one big, happy, crazy family.
Slow Ride is the second book in the Road to Love series but when the author says it is a standalone, it truly is. I did read book one and “know” some of the characters and I always enjoy that. SR is about Jack Crews, brother to Brodie from book one, and he is just as bada@@, but in a bit different way. Jack is more “refined” and “calm” than Brodie, at least on the surface, but in his own way is just as gorgeous and capable as Brodie. Usually he looks the GQ part but the first time he meets Ronnie Ashford he’s in work clothes and is a mite bit grubby from working on his house. Ronnie doesn’t know he’s Jack Crews, is drooling over him, until he says his name. Annnnnnnnnnnddddd they are off! Instead of a meet-cute, they actually had a meet-hawt/oh-hale-no, imho.
I won’t recap the story because I couldn’t do it justice. It has fast action, mayhem, is sizzling hawt, and I think it is more about Ronnie and Jack and their growing relationship. Ronnie works for twins who collect…let’s call it morbid trivia. She usually handles the retrieval of the objects alone however the brothers insist that she work with a driver, who doubles as a bodyguard, and she is NOT happy about that. They really are such a great couple, and their bickering, and simmering passion is smexy. Ronnie has had a hard life in that she has issues with her family, and has had them since she was very young and on her own. Surprisingly enough, Jack has a few hidden issues to overcome as well, and these two find their “peace” together.
Now, the character I met in book one, who is also in Slow Ride, is Howler, Brodie’s rescue dog. Howler stole my heart in book one and he shines just as much in book two. He helps Ronnie on her personal journey, as he does with all the family. Jack and Ronnie are perfect together, but phew, are they combustible! I really enjoy this series and loved both books. Can’t wait to read more! I received an ARC of #Slow Ride from #NetGalley, and this is my honest review.
Strength and power are the underlying themes in Slow Ride. Jack uses his strength to protect; the bad guy uses his power to intimidate; and, Ronnie uses her strength and power to rise above her past and become a truly remarkable woman who has the talent and ability to save herself, but isn't afraid to accept help when it's offered. I read an advanced copy of this book
Advanced Reader Copy (ARC) provided by the Author and Publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an fair and honest review.
There is just something about a formula book that you either love it or hate it. It's all personal preference. "Slow Ride" is exactly like Driven to Distraction, change a few names and some very minor details and you've got the same book. Not much to hold my interest, but definitely enough to tick me off. I'm only giving this one a point for the hot romance, Lori Foster can sure heat up the pages. Every other element that makes a great romance is a fail.
Ronnie Ashford is your cliché character heroine. Trouble with her family and she takes off only to end up in really deep doo-doo. She has a chip on her shoulder the size of a redwood, yet is soft hearted toward small animals and hot, strong males. She is all about being independent and prefers one-night stands as her sexual exercise.
Jack Crews is just looking for a burger and a brew. What he gets is a proposition he isn't going to refuse. Everything is great until someone calls out his name and the hot lady makes tracks and is gone with the wind. What the what?
The next morning Jack and Ronnie meet bad, but Jack takes the job because something about the woman has him more than curious. As they circle around each other and the off the charts sexual attraction, someone else is also circling Ronnie and his goal is not to get her into bed, his goal is murder.

Slow Ride is the new book in Lori Foster's Road to Love series. The character's are well written and the plot is simply brilliant. I have to say that this is one of my favorite new books written by Ms. Foster. If you are looking for a quick read that is simply page turning until the end then this is the one for you
Let's start with the easy part: Jack and his family. Jack was an amazing-loyal-strong-lovable character. There was nothing not to love about him. I adore his brother and I believe the rest of the family added a wonderful personal touch to the story. They were needed characters.
All in all I liked the story-line, I loved Jack and his family, and I loved Ronnie's eccentric employees... Did I like Ronnie though? I am not sure. She started of nasty and didn't entirely redeem herself. I understand there were reasons for her to be the way she is and I even felt for her character at times, but I think it was all a bit too much. She came across as a self-centered and arrogant person. There were also pages upon pages on her past and I found myself bored with it more times than I can count. I think more time could have been spent giving Jack's character a tad more complexity.
Not in any way a bad book though, I am glad I read it and I will read the next one for sure!
Slow Ride sucks you in a keeps you turning the pages! After the second chapter I was hooked, I could not put this book down. The chemistry between Jack & Ronnie is off the charts, I love the bickering and snark, it's all part of the buildup to a great ending. Ronnie is strong, independent and endearing. Jack is protective, a little over the top at times and has to learn how to handle Ronnie so he doesn't tick her off! I loved their story and can't wait for the next one. This is the second book in the Road to Love series but can be read on it's own. I've read both and highly recommend them.
I am loving this series! Slow Ride is the 2nd book in Lori’s Road to Love series, it is a stand-alone but characters from the 1st book and beloved Howler the dog, make an appearance. I love Jack! He’s hot and so are the love scenes! He’s big and strong but more refined, silent yet very aware. He and Ronnie hit it off from the start making their road to love at a pace to be believable. Working together gives them more time to learn each other and when unknown danger arises, they realize they must free fall into trust, knowing the other is there to catch them. I highly recommend this book and eagerly awaiting Charlotte’s story!
Veronica (aka Ronnie) has no desire to take on a partner for her transporting jobs. She’s capable of taking care of herself and someone else would just hinder her or get in her way. The last thing she expected was to have the hots for the guy she was hoping would decline her job offer.
Jack was such a fun character! He could be sweet, charming, tough, and protective at the spin of a page, keeping me guessing at how he would respond to Ronnie’s reactions. I liked how he took his time to build trust between them even when his libido was strongly protesting the wait. I also loved his interactions with his family, finding them all very laid back and supportive of one another.
This probably sounds weird, but I thought Ronnie was similar to Mary in the first book. Kind of a ‘me against the world’ attitude going on. When the story starts, Ronnie came off tough, with a big chip on her shoulder, and no...I didn’t really like her, but I wanted to know what made her tick! She turned out to be a funny, empathetic, protective, sweet, brash, and yes, very temperamental chick with a lot of emotional baggage. In the scheme of things, I was pleasantly surprised by how much I grew to like her.
The transporting jobs Jack and Ronnie took gave these two plenty of time for heartfelt conversations since they were stuck in a car for periods of time, yet being cooped together also flamed their attraction. The push and pull stoked the anticipation because Ronnie refused to act on it and Jack respected her space, biding his time until she felt ready. No worries, since Foster delivered blistering hot yet sweetly tender love scenes!
Overall, I liked this entry more then the first book. Jack and Ronnie had chemistry from the start and I liked how things stewed and built up between them, establishing the emotional intimacy. It made their reactions believable and had me vested in the outcome of their relationship. And I can’t forget about Howler, Brodie’s lovable rescue mutt! He was just the sweetest thing with his bottomless pit of a stomach and his mothering-hen tendencies towards Peanut!
Book two in the Road to Love series, Slow Ride can be read by itself. Brodie, Jack, and Charlotte (her story will be book three) are the connecting characters and each story/romance stands on its own.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This is an awesome story, typical Lori Foster stories. Suspenseful. Review has a little spoiler alert 🚨. But doesn’t ruin story at all.
Jack and Ronnie, wow this story truly pull on your heart strings. Love, Broken families, new love for friends and family, and heartbreak for the family you lost. Jack and his brother Brodie had a transport business, they were used for usual and unusual transport. Which is how they met Ronnie Ashford. Ronnie work for twins picking up unusual items that sometimes got dangerous. The twins hired Jack to assist Ronnie with various pick up. Along the way Ronnie and Jack share their feelings for life and family and love or lack their of. When Ronnie was a teenager she fins out her father is not her father. Her mother had an affair. Father mother and sister, began treating her like a outsider and she left home. Unfortunately she gets kidnapped by someone but manages to get away. Even though life went on for her she never regained the relationship with her family and she was alone, until Jack.
This was another fun and sexy romp through this chemistry driven story. Ronnie acquires antiques for her employer and they have determined she needs to hire Jack Crews as a driver and bodyguard and she is not happy about it and she is just as determined he is not going to take the job. Especially since she has a strict policy to not mix work and pleasure and the night before she is to meet up with her new bodyguard she decides to get out and work off some frustration with the gorgeous man who walked into the bar. She is all set until he leans in and whispers in her ear, "My name is Jack Crews." The banter between these two kept the pages turning faster than my kindle could keep up at times. This was a smoking read and I thoroughly enjoyed it and didn't want it to end. There was an element of suspense to keep it cooking! I am really looking forward to Charlotte's book! Definitely recommend this one along with the first one in this series.
**Received this ARC for review from the publisher via NetGalley**
Love Lori Foster, this book & series! You will thoroughly enjoy Jack & Ronnie’s (Veronica) story that includes the same wonderful characters from Driven To Distraction & introduces some new characters. If you’re an animal lover like myself you will also love the rescue animals (Brodie’s dog Howler, the addition of Peanut the kitten & Buster the puppy) in the book! We all deserve a Jack or Brodie in our lives but they’ll have to be book boyfriends! Looking forward to Charlotte’s story next & I highly recommend Slow Drive, as well as Driven To Distraction (Brodie & Mary’s story). I received an ARC from Netgalley & this is my honest review.
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review. I was excited to dig into the next book in this series. Veronica "Ronnie" Ashford was here to meet this driver, get him to decline the job and get back to work. Meeting Jack Crews was not in her plan nor was the chemistry she found between them. Ronnie was used to being along and refused to be dependent on anyone that is until Jack Crews walked into her life. Slowly Jack shows Ronnie that not only can he be trusted but his family can as well. When Ronnie is being threatened Jack refused to let her do this alone. Wonderful story of love, trust and family.
This review was originally posted on (un)Conventional Bookworms *I received a free copy of [title] from [publisher] via Netgalley. This has in no way influenced my voluntary review, which is honest and unbiased *Slow Ride was a very nice slow romance, and I really appreciated that. Both because Ronnie had been through so much she didn't believe in love anymore, and because Jack was so patient. He just knew waiting was going to be worth it!
Ronnie Ashford is hiding a lot of pain and has trouble sleeping. She walks into a bar one night with the intent of seducing someone. History has proved to her that this helps her to escape her demons. She finds the perfect candidate and things seem like a go until she hears someone call out his name. It is Jack Crews and Ronnie is in town to utilize the services of his transport company. She only wanted one night, and if she would be working with him, then that certainly could not happen.
Jack was enthralled, but now it seems as if it will be strictly business between him and the sexy bombshell. She makes it clear that nothing at all will happen between them. Ronnie really needs the business that is owned by Jack and his brother. Her “collections “are often quite odd and sometimes the circumstances can be very dangerous.
Meanwhile, Ronnie has had a very tough past and this is where the true conflict and even a strong element of danger enters the story. So, not only is there a sizzling romance to be enjoyed, there is a mystery that is part of the scenario. Also, we get to see Howler again, Jack’s brother Brodie’s dog. I loved Howler in the first book, Driven to Distraction. He was important then and is just as much now. Indeed, the scenes with Howler made me smile.
I loved this book and am enjoying this Road to Love series by Lori Foster. As a matter of fact, I love all of her wok and have read dozens of them over the years. Although part of a series, Slow Ride does well as a standalone.
Many thanks for this ARC to review. This is my honest opinion.
I was pulled right into this story. The story has laughs, secrets, suspense, and heartbreak.
If you have not read the below, they are also part of this series so if you want to read the entire series try reading those books(s) first Driven to Distraction (Road to Love #1)
This is Ronnie and Jack's story. Ronnie’s bosses want to hire Jack and have sent Ronnie to get him to sign the contract. There have been weird things happening an they want to protect her and the items they are acquiring. When Ronnie first gets to town, she sees Jack and does not know who he is they almost leave the bar together until she finds out just who he is. She is fuming. She does not want him to take the job. She can handle anything that comes her way. Jack wants her and is determined to have her. When they work together Jack can see that danger is following her, but can he convince her that he wants to help and is willing to help her no matter what? When the danger gets closer, they must decide if she is better off staying with Jack. Can she handle him taking over? What happens when she starts falling? Will she still be able to walk away in the end? Or will the danger make sure she has no choice but to walk away.
I loved these characters and the side characters. I felt I could connect with the characters and the story was a great read.
I highly recommend this book and can’t wait for the next story from this author.
Love Lori Foster! Jack is the calm and polite brother of Mustang Transport Courier Service. Jack is a HOT alpha male who is protective of those he cares about and can be a total bad ass when the situation calls for it. Ronnie is sent to town by her employers to hire Jack as her driver when she is sent to purchase items for their collection. Ronnie knows the only person she can trust is herself, so she planned to offer the job to Jack and convince him not to take it. The chemistry between Jack and Ronnie is instant and explosive. Can Jack prove to Ronnie that she can trust him? Can Jack protect Ronnie when danger comes after her? Jack and Ronnie are great, but I really loved Jack's family, the twins, and the fur babies, Howler and Peanut. This reader found Slow Ride entertaining from the beginning to the end. Slow Ride by Lori Foster is a fantastic read with drama, intrigue, danger, laughter, and passion. Lori Foster is a MUST read author for this reader. I would highly recommend getting Slow Ride by Lori Foster. I received an ARC of this book, and I am leaving my honest review.
Thank you to NetGalley, Harlequin and HQN Books for providing an advance copy of Slow Ride by Lori Foster in exchange for an honest review. This is the 2nd book in Foster’s, Road to Love series and just as exciting, scintillating, and filled with action-packed romance. I could not put Slow Ride down; loved the immediate slow burn attraction between Jack and Ronnie as Jack is hired and strives to do his job as Ronnie’s driver/protector as he falls for her feisty, difficult personality hiding her scary past. I always enjoy when Lori Foster adds a mystery component to her romances and boy is this one I could not put down! Not one to accept help easily from anyone, not enjoying close family ties; Ronnie will reach out to the pets; Howler is a rescue who is such a baby but fierce in his protection abilities; when abused kitten, Peanut, is rescued, Howler and Peanut become family and bring out Ronnie’s soft side. The pacing was perfect in this romance and the sexual tension, drama, and action move this lush story of mystery and romance forward. Highly recommended.
Ronnie Ashford is determined to do it all by herself. She retrieves the oddities her employers want to collect, and she thinks she does not need a man to take care of her. Her employers insist that they want to hire a driver for her. Her goal in life is to get Jack to turn down the work. But Jack is determined to get her to trust him, to care for him, in spite of (or because of?) her prickly attitude. Gradually she softens towards him and they are able to work as a team. But someone is targeting Ronnie. She has had bad things happen to her, to the point that she doesn’t trust anyone, and she wonders why such bad things happen to her. Are the various problems related? While Ronnie & Jack work through their problems, it gives Ms. Foster a chance to do what she does best – write about relationships. She shines when she describes family interactions. The situation is made more poignant fact by that often the “families” are not blood, but bound by other ties. Their relationships with family and pets make an enjoyable story. I very much enjoyed this book. I read the first in the series but the story stands alone. I was given a free copy of this book.
"Slow Ride" (Road to Love Book 2) by Lori Foster is a terrific read. This is a great follow up to "Driven to Distraction". I loved Jack and Ronnie's story. This is a fantastic addition to this series, packed with action, romance, passion, entertaining characters, humor, family, and more. I enjoyed getting to catch up with Brodie, Mary, Howler, Ros, and Charlotte. I'm anxious to read what happens next in the series in Charlotte's story! Highly recommend to all fans of romance, action, and series.
The second story in the Road to Love series and it is was a fantastic read as are all the books by Lori Foster. She has been one of my 3 auto buy authors since I first read one of her books.
Action, suspense, steamy chemistry, genuine romance… Jack, Ronnie and the kitten. *sigh* Give yourself the gift of escaping into a world so cleverly spun, you’ll wish you lived there. I know I do! I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy
I really enjoyed this story. I didn't like Ronnie at first but she grew on my and they were a cute couple. Though my favorite character was Howler!! He was adorable and this book showed it even more than Brodies. I can't wait to get Charlottes story especially now that I know who she ends up with!! I received an ARC from NetGalley, and this is my honest review.
I enjoyed this story very much! The chemistry between Ronnie and Jack jumps right off the page and smacks you upside the head..in a good way. Normally my reviews are much longer and I tend to gush. I decided that I would do this one shorter so the reader gets a few surprises. I highly recommend this book. "I received an ARC from NetGalley, and this is my honest review."
Strong heroine with a crazy past.....check Incredibly compassionate hero who loves animals.....check Crazy things that happen during courtship....check
Must be another amazing Lori Foster book! One can always count on some laughs, gasps, awwwws & love in her books! Another winner!
I love Ronnie and Jack so much!! Ronnie is such a tortured soul and Jack was so patient with her. I especially love the animals in this book. Howler is just so sweet with all creatures.
