The Wisdom Bridge

Rate this book
These days, parents are a part of their children's lives with more attention and intensity than ever. There's a frenzy to prepare children for the future-carefree summers have been swapped with online advanced math tutorial classes and computer programming. Parents have shapeshifted into schedulers and chauffeurs driving children from soccer games to cricket matches, from music lessons to chemistry tutorial classes, and children are on a super-sized diet of desire and ambition.

So, are we doing what is needed to nurture the children's inner growth? Are we teaching them the skills needed to become compassionate and resilient human beings?

The Wisdom Bridge by Kamlesh D. Patel, also known as Daaji, takes the focus away from preparing and puts the spotlight back on caring and nurturing the children spiritually, mentally, emotionally and physically. In the book, Daaji explains the importance of the core tenets of parenting and instilling children with wisdom that guides them as they grow up. Based on research, conversations with psychologists and educators, and learnings as grandparents and parents, the book will help channel the energies away from anxiety to appreciation towards the children. It will give a new understanding of how to tap into parents' wisdom and raise happy and resilient families.

In today's world, parents are more involved in their children's lives than ever before. Whether is it extracurricular summer camps or swimming classes or online math tutorials or computer programming, they're constantly striving to prepare their kids for the future and keeping them up the competitive pedestal. Parents have transformed into busy planners and chauffeurs, shuttling their children from one activity to another, filling their days with ambition and desire.

But amidst all this hustle and bustle, there are important questions to consider: Are we really nurturing our children's inner growth? Are we equipping them with the skills they need to become compassionate and resilient individuals? Are they being prepared the right way to face the world when it comes to it?

"The Wisdom Bridge" by Kamlesh D. Patel, also known as Daaji answers these significantly introspective questions in a smart way. This book shifts the focus away from just preparing our children and instead highlights the importance of caring for them on a deeper level—spiritually, mentally, emotionally, and physically. Drawing from research, conversations with psychologists and educators, and personal experiences as grandparents and parents, Daaji provides valuable insights on parenting by also busting myths on modern-age parenting.

This handbook on parenting is divided into nine sections, each focusing on a different principle.
1.Raising a child still takes a village
2.Be guided by wisdom. Seek it. Cultivate it. Share it.
3.Preparation begins long before the children arrive.
4.Happy mothers make happy families
5.Early childhood is the foundation of wisdom.
6.Character builds personality
7.Youth are the future. Guide them, don’t break them.
8.Lifestyle is an expression of one’s attitudes.
9.Disciple your love, not love your discipline

Through the pages you realize how raising kids has become a more mechanical process leaving all the warmth and nurturing out of it. It doesn't have to be this way. Parents see their responsibility toward their child more as duty due to the rush of personal commitments, work priorities, etc. and thus, day by day, kids are growing up but due to the lack of love and warmth, they are hardly connected to their parents, emotionally or spiritually. This is a harsh and sad truth of today's generation. The book hence emphasizes on the core principles of parenting and teaches us how to instill wisdom in our children as they grow. It encourages us to redirect our energies from anxiety to appreciation when it comes to raising our children, instilling more humanly values. By tapping into the wisdom of grandparents and parents, 'The Wisdom Bridge' offers a better perspective on how to raise a happy family with kids who are well-nurtured, well-rounded, and well-prepared for the future.

So, if you're a parent wondering if you're doing enough to nurture your child's growth, this book might just provide the guidance and wisdom you need. It's a reminder that parenting is not just about preparing for the future but also about cultivating the qualities that will help children thrive in the present, face challenges positively, and come out a winner.

"The Wisdom Bridge" by Daaji is a must-read for grandparents, parents, teenagers, and couples planning to start a family. It offers insights into preparing for parenthood, the roles of different family members in raising a child, and the importance of a happy mother. The book provides solutions to modern parenting challenges with a mix of traditional and practical approaches. So just about when parents start reading books on pregnancy, starting a family, how to be a parent, 'The Wisdom Bridge' by Daaji stands a strong contender to secure a place in the life of to-be-parents. It's a wonderful gift for adults.

This book comes at such an important time in my life. Raising a family and building a good life matter to most people I know and me. I often find myself asking "Am I teaching my children the right things?", "How to instill character and values?", "Am I giving my children enough time" and so on. I also wonder about whether I am imbibing the values I preach.
The Wisdom Bridge is a resource for every parent seeking such answers. Whether you are a parent-to-be, grandparent, or a teacher, if you deal with children in any capacity, this book is a must-read.....

In my own parenting experience, there were questions lingering, as I was going through some struggles. Generation gap existed in past; the gap seems wider now. When group and larger families, support systems are absent, how to align oneself with one's beliefs, spiritual practices, and daily life. While talking of good past may not help, what could be future hope for youth? I had even tweeted this question to Daaji few years ago on twitter. And during some of Kamlesh D. Patel Daaji’s conversation, Daaji has emphasized a lot on creating the environment for bringing up children. In one with Kaveeri Kaveree Bamzai, an independent popular journalist, - Daaji talked about ‘The Wisdom Bridge’. At that time, I felt the current generation (of parents) might need more practical help. When few months back, it was announced Daaji is bringing out a book on the same, I was awaiting eagerly for the same and hoping it help build a lot of bridges across generations, a much-needed ecosystem in every family. As I read through first sample chapter provided through the website, - http://www.wisdombridge.in/ - I could connect as a struggling #parent without support, go through issues like quality time to spend, receptive hearts to take life’s experience, while giving #children the freedom they need to experiment, learn, grow and evolve. I was elated when I could get a pre-release copy distributed by Daaji himself on Sept 28th in a recent Heartfulness Bhandara at Kanha Shanti Vanam, Hyderabad, India. As I started reading, it is more than a book to me, and seems to be a hands-on guide, a comfort to have him clearly spell out all such daily problems of current generation parents/care takers which many of us struggle to even talk about, except to vent out. Daaji’s words provide right thinking and correct understanding with what worked from the past and how we could do so in the present eco system. He shares tips in a simple and lucid style for our everyday family challenges.

Key quotes from the book as I am reading them, for the benefit of anyone looking out what is in store for them, with new perspectives on each problem and solution -

“This book is for parents. I use the word ‘parent’ as an umbrella term to address anyone caring for a child in some capacity. It includes parents, grandparents, uncles, aunts, teachers, and caregivers. Also, I use the word ‘family’, to address the many flavours that families come in - large joint families, nuclear family, families with co-parents, single parent and so on.”

“Families today lack support and are somehow DIY-ing parenting”

“Prepare is the new care”

“Parents are doing what they can. Given their stress and the lack of support, parenting can at times feel like a hopeless effort. Not to mention expensive.”

“Wisdom takes away the anxiety that comes from trying to control everything and helps the parents focus on laying a strong foundation for the child.”

“We all learn on the job”

“The Wisdom Bridge offers a simple framework of principles that are easy to apply.”

Nine principles - Nine sections -
1. Raising a child still takes a village
2. Be guided by wisdom. Seek it. Cultivate it. Share it.
3. Preparation begins long before the children arrive.
4. Happy mothers make happy families
5. Early childhood is the foundation of wisdom.
6. Character builds personality
7. Youth are the future. Guide them, don’t break them.
8. Lifestyle is an expression of one’s attitudes.
9. Disciple your love, not love your discipline

In summary, the takeaway seems to be - We are not alone. We don’t need to struggle in this process. There is help and support. Helping clearly see the problem, look at the essence and spirit behind what was done and what worked in the past, and using the current technology and means to apply slowly but surely in the process. The book and the author, and reading resources provide the confidence that we can bring about the necessary change with everyone’s support, and support for everyone in the current and future generations. Hope this helps to help you pick it up when you feel the need on any of the topics or absolute reading pleasure.

"The Wisdom Bridge" by Daaji (Kamlesh D. Patel) is a book that not only sheds light on the current issues faced by the upcoming generation but also provides nine essential principles to address and resolve these problems.

I devoured this book in a single sitting, as it offers an abundance of valuable insights that are difficult to resist. It delves into the intricacies of our existence and provides guidance on how to shape the upbringing of our children, ultimately paving the way for a brighter future for humanity.

Daaji, the author, shares nuggets of wisdom acquired through firsthand experience of witnessing the transition of eras and the prevailing knowledge and wisdom gap. These virtues are often overlooked in our daily lives, and Daaji brings them to our attention, emphasizing their significance.

The book focuses on various aspects of life, including parenting, fostering family bonds, nurturing children, and fostering the holistic development of a thriving community. Daaji's genuine concern highlights our disconnection from our roots, which poses a risk of losing the wisdom that has been passed down through generations. He thoroughly explores every factor that contributes to planning a healthy lifestyle.

Drawing upon ancient techniques and natural resources, Daaji demonstrates how we can develop a cognitive understanding that allows us to forge a connection with our children and maintain the wisdom bridge. He imparts invaluable lessons on marriage, the optimal time for pregnancy, the role of mothers in creating and nurturing families, and the collective efforts of family members in shaping a child's development.

I wholeheartedly recommend "The Wisdom Bridge" to all parents and teachers who aspire to instill these nuggets of wisdom within themselves and the next generation. It serves as a valuable guide for personal growth and the cultivation of a brighter future.

📝Being a parent and raising a child is doing all by yourself. There are neither rule books on the subject, nor any guides to help parents help them in their parenthood. You'll have to figure out a way by yourself only. But you can also choose to pour into the sea of wisdom of elderly ones.

"𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐧𝐨 𝐬𝐮𝐜𝐡 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐬 𝐚 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐟𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐬𝐨 𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐛𝐞 𝐚 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐥 𝐨𝐧𝐞."

📝The book serves as a guide which moreover gives a clear Perspective on the fundamentals of sustaining a healthy mindset parents as well as their children. From childhood to adulthood, time flies like sand in a palm. Then comes the time when the children steps out the protection bubble of Home.

📝In order to explore the world and find their way of life. When children are exposed to the good and the not-so-good of life, wisdom will help them in making the right decisions. The book is written for this sole cause particularly.

📌The books contains 9 principles which helps people teach how to teach a sustainable mindset and some practice in order to make it efficient. The figures and tables make the reading experience lucid and provide the readers with a comprehensive approach.

📌If you're a person who is interested in learning about the parenting essentials and the wisdom straight from your previous generation, then this might be the right choice for you.

In this Era of technology, nuclear families are increasing because of demand in career, creating more distance from guiding elders. Parenting now has happened as a DIY thing, as quoted in this book, for which I agree. As an early parent we may think that the way we live and love our children are self sufficient, but the effect of outside environment in children's future steps are unpredictable, to nurture them for those uncertainty (on which we also don't have any idea), this book can guide us on making a path during such critical situations. I liked it and I suggest all others to gift this book to themselves for their lifetime. Thank you for the author for his deep understanding and efforts to help us from today's most appealing situations for all elders.

This is going to be in my hand whenever I have to deal with people of different generations, grandparents and grandkids, PTAs, Childcare workers, Mental Health workers, or, for that matter any family who comes to me for their Consultation for Swaasthya/Health and well-being.

The greatest factor Daaji has given to me through this book is the challenge of wisdom transferred from grandparents to grandkids, which is now getting diminished in nuclear families.

The beautiful collections of scientific studies references linked to each chapter are fascinating.

I'll request folks to study not more than one chapter per week or per month and contemplate to get the maximum benefit as I did.

Highly recommended to anyone building a family!

(Every parent (yes 'every' parent) should have this book)

This book is a masterpiece. I have a 10 year old and 3.9 year old. I wish I had this book when my elder one was also young. But still there is so much to learn while raising both of them. This book has numerous gems about bringing up children and in a very easy language. Such simple and natural tips. 'Light touch and keen eyes', 'Interest and Observation are twins' are amazing concepts
