After assuming her new role as vice-captain of the Dark Knights, Jun Karentia found herself up against the most significant challenge she had encountered attending the annual performance meeting. What's more, every expedition force worth their salt would be there, including her former comrades in the Fabian Corps.
In addition to this burdensome pressure haunting her thoughts, Jun's attempts at quashing rumors of her supposed illicit love affair with her captain, Mayer Knox, have been for naught. They have continued to spread like wildfire, reaching as far as the capital. When mysterious bruises start appearing on her body after helping Mayer with his nightly training, the gossip only worsens.
As she navigates the political landscape of the meeting, Jun must also confront the ghosts of her past and come face to face with the one who left her behind. Will Jun be able to overcome these obstacles and fulfill her duties as vice-captain, or will her past and present collide in unexpected ways?
In every RPG, you must choose your allies carefully.
There was some great development in this volume. It makes me even more excited for the next! Also, who knew Fabian was going to be such a downright a**hole.
It's one of those books that you finish way to fast because it so good, and then you get sad that you have to wait for the new book to come out. It's really fun and well written.
The themes we've seen floating around really come to the forefront in this one. I only ask for more smooches. Oh and got to get more of Jun's feelings on the smooches.
Still working through my second read through will catching up to read the newer release. This volume focus is more on the emotional development of the main two characters. In addition to the romance finally developing some emotional intelligence for Mayer, you get to have a little bit of satisfaction watching Jun's ex stew with a myriad of negative emotions. You really get a taste for how much of a scumbag the ex is as well.
While the story is still very solid, the events going on in this particular volume are less interesting and original. A lot of the choices made and reactions that happen are fairly predictable at this point. Even though it's predictable, I'm still enjoying it quite a bit.
Now I'm off to binge into the fourth volume, can't wait!
