Falling for the Grinch is a steamy, age gap, grumpy sunshine, holiday novella with no cheating, no cliffhangers, and an HEA.
Follow her: https://amyalvesbooks.com/links Amy is an avid reader of romance, fantasy, and science fiction. Fine, mostly romance, but she sprinkles in other genres now and then. She began writing a couple of years ago and it’s been a journey she didn’t know she was meant to take. Now she writes the stories she craves and the characters she hopes are real to someone, somewhere.
Unpleasant and a little too messy for a Christmas novella… sorry bcs nobody else thinks the same but I would feel like a second choice too… I hate when another woman who’s H has been interested to appears and especially if they work together… so I hate when is the opposite too!!! Actually I think h acts really uncool when the truth is discovered and You need to get over it, it’s never a right answer! Don’t like the heroine at all and honestly H is too good for her, I’m sorry because I always think the opposite but she is one of the few heroines I dislike…
I know we are adults but H is in put in a delicate situation with one of his boys… H is the fire chief…honestly everybody is too understanding for the reality… Too much for a Christmas novella, sorry,

This is such a fun, hot and smutty, holiday rom-com! Dani Reed is the owner of the local bakery and is determined to have a Christmas this year to remember, claiming her coal in the process. What was supposed to be a hook-up with the playboy in town, ends up with her kissing "Chief Grinch", the grump of the fire station who got the nickname for a reason.
The fire between Dani and Declan was beyond what I had expected and I ate up every dang word of it. It was incredible and spicy, and I just want more! This was the perfect tease of her new series coming up and I CAN NOT WAIT FOR VAUGHN!!
Dani is a local bakery owner who is trying to set up her towns Christmas celebration. But the fire chief Declan is there to shoot down every idea.
So when Dani decides to “claim her coal” and have a one night Christmas fling. So doesn’t except it to be Declan who meets her in the storage room.
This is a cute hallmark like book but we get the spice!! It’s a quick read so we all the Christmas fluff in a quick read without it being too plotty. I loved it! I love grumpy Declan.

I honestly wish I could give this more than 5 stars, that's how much I loved it. It is the perfect holiday read, with spice, sass, and enough sexual tension to knock your ugly Christmas sweater off.
"No one comes into my bakery and thinks, oh look at the sexy baker rocking that messy ponytail, a plain black, flour-caked apron, and the cloying scent of vanilla exuding from her every pore. Come sit on my face sweetheart."
Dani owns her own bakery. She’s smart and funny, she can hold her own. She knows what she wants and goes after it. And when she sets her eyes on Declan, she doesn't stop until she gets what she wants.
Declan is a grinch and is the Fire chief, and after a scandal with the old Chief, he is focused on running his station with no distractions. When Dani asks him out, he turns her down, but that doesn't stop her from pursuing her.
I absolutely loved Dani. Her sassy attitude made me laugh more than once. Declan is so grumpy that it's almost funny. Also, Can we talk about the dirty talk in this one? Not just from Declan, but from Dani as well. I mean I may have blushed a time or two.
I also want to mention the other characters. Grace is a little spitfire. I cannot wait for her book. Jaxon and Jenson are up to their usual brotherly antics. Fighting more with each other than they get along.
I could go on and on about this book, but I don't want to give anything away. Maybe just some sprinkle cookies, IYKYK! ;)
I always look forward to holiday romances and Falling for the Grinch was such a delicious treat! Declan Walker is dubbed “Chief Grinch” for good reason. Sometimes you want to smack him and sometimes you want to give him a big hug. He’s the local fire chief and even when he’s grumpy and glaring, he makes our heroine weak in the knees.
Dani Reed is 29 years old, the owner of the local bakery, and adored by all. I so admired her spunk and ambition and how she wasn’t afraid to speak her mind. She set her sights on Chief Walker after accidentally kissing him, and I couldn’t help but grin on half the pages. He’s a bit gun shy because of their age difference, but let me tell you–our girl is someone he just can’t say no to, and it’s not from lack of trying.
She’s smart and funny, so generous and kind, can bake her butt off, and is one serious flirt. I want to be just like her! I needed a fan with all their dirty talk and once our hero said the hell with it, there was turning back. Full steam ahead!
Amy’s stories have such likeable characters in small towns I wish I could visit. The pacing is perfect as the story builds and builds and draws you in. I loved all the interactions with the firefighters, her friends and family, and the writing is just perfection. So descriptive from how she stomps away and her ponytail sways side to side, to how it feels when he is kissing her.
Yes, our hero was a bit curmudgeonly, but I totally get where he is coming from. He’s the boss and a natural born rule follower, and feels he needs to be a respectable role model. Dani understood him, admired his ethics, and made him a better man. I loved their witty/flirty banter especially when they thought they were keeping their tryst a secret! So many laugh out loud moments. I loved when he called her cupcake :)
It was wonderful to watch him transition from being alone to someone who enjoyed the holidays because he had someone special in his life. Or did he? He just wanted a short trial run, and at one point, he hurt her deeply, which are just two of the reasons I wanted to smack the man. I was so proud of her for defending herself and not cowering, even though he shattered her heart. But do not fear, this man is no fool. He realizes what a pure gem she is and can grovel like the best of them. The ending made my heart swoon.
I just loved Falling For the Grinch from beginning to end and will be sure to reread it every year. It didn’t feel like a novella to me, there is nothing I feel was left out. Can’t wait for more from this fabulous author!
Dani and Declan couldn’t be more opposite especially when it comes to the holidays, so when this cute baker is trying to decorate and plan her festivities this hot Grinch is out to make sure it's all safe and to code. Dani has this bubbly and optimistic personality, but this year she is determined to make the naughty list especially since Declan openly turned her down to a date months ago, so if she can’t have the one, she wants she’ll find the one that will work for now. Declan may come off Grinch like but it's for good reasons. He is the new fire chief and is determined to not only turn his fire station around from the disaster it used to be, but also keep crazy incidents from happening around the holidays. With sparks flying and tension running high Declan knows he wants Dani, yet things hold him back. Will Declan finally give in to Dani or will he forever be the mean one? This cute read had me rolling with laughter, swooning over Declan, and dying for more Gracie/Jensen.
Thank you Amy Alves for providing me with an ARC. All thoughts are my own.
Oh my gosh, Falling for the Grinch the perfect book to get me all wrapped up in the Holiday Season!!!! Dani Reed has always wanted a dreamy hallmark romance where she is swept off her feet, wooed and loved beyond measure. However when it looks like her dream won’t be realized, she decides to take matters into her own hands and create a naughty list to experience some sexy fun for Christmas.
Chief Declan Walker is the town’s grumpy fire chief who is hell bent on enforcing rules and regulations so Vaughn’s Christmas plans don’t cause more trouble than holiday cheer. He’s been secretly in lust over Dani, but for various reasons has stayed away. One thing leads to another this Christmas and when they get together…. well let’s just say that the man is as good at starting fires as ending them 😳😳😳🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
This sweet short and spicy holiday novella is perfect for anyone looking to kick off your December. It’s got age-gap, grumpyxsunshine, unrequited but secretly very requited tropes with an fmc who knows what she wants and isn’t afraid to ask for it and an mmc that is more than willing to indulge all her desires!!!
Ok so I have a problem. This book is gonna get me confused all throughout the Christmas season, I just know it. See the problem is I didn't read this book.. I watched it play out in my head like a freaking movie! But surely that's great, I hear you say. Well yeah, it is, except that I'm gonna keep telling people about it as a bl00dy film and then remember and have to correct myself that it was, in fact, a book! Amy's world building, as usual, is completely on point. There is the perfect balance of feelings, tension, and fun that you want in a holiday novella. If you're familiar with Landry and Vaughn, and their wonderful residents, then you definitely need this story in your life. With each book Amy just solidifies why she's top of my one-click author list ❤️ Absolutely recommend this book 🎄
This is an excellent, steamy, romantic comedy that will have you swooning for a certain fire chief .
Declan is mature, sensible, gruff, and very serious. He’s the man that everyone turns to when they’re in trouble, he’s on most council committees and he’s obsessed with safety. Especially a certain lady who runs the bakery, he definitely has a sweet spot for her.
Likewise she has the hots for him too. But can she lure him into a naughty little one night stand, and if she does, is there a chance he could want more, she definitely hoping so.
Brilliant banter, chemistry and writing. I need more from this author.
I received an Arc copy of this book and chose to write this review
Each book in this series begins with the same preface of a Hollywood star telling all the ladies to #claimyourcoal. In this story, the small-town fire chief is the Grinch and the spunky bakery shop owner sets out to de-Grinch him. She has a major case of lust for the hunky fire chief, but the one time she tried to ask him out, he shot her down in front of a shop full of people. She has now decided to #claimhercoal and that includes seeing that Mr. Grinch embraces Christmas and possibly her. This book had me laughing like crazy with all the antics that go on in this small town. This story is also one of my favorite tropes-age gap. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I read Falling for the Jerk first and loved it and when I found out there was a story about Dani and Declan, I knew I had to read it.
Declan is the grinch fire chief of the town and Dani is the owner of the local town bakery. She is determined to have a Christmas to remember and "claim her coal" in the process...i.e. make Santa's naughty list. She has lusted after Declan, but he turned her down months ago, so she will find someone new. A quick, dark hook-up at a Christmas turns out to be Declan. Now, the woman who drives him crazy is the woman he can't stop thinking about.
I really enjoyed this short, spicy novella. I only wish it was longer.
Dani has a crush on the fire chief, he has one on her too but he’s wants to keep the departments reputation clean. Declan is known as the Grinch!
And unexpected meeting has Declan and Dani locking lips and struggling to stay away from one another. This is an age gap story that is funny, hot and fabulous. Of course there are some conflict but it’s always fun to make up. The supporting cast was fantastic and added so many laughs and goodness to the story.
#claimyourcoal may be one of my favorite Christmas movements, and Dani's naughty list definitely did not disappoint!
Dani is the young, sweet, relatively new baker in town who has her sights set on the impossible Chief Grinch, aka Declan.
Tired of disappointing s*x and waiting for her Hallmark HEA, Dani decides to embrace her #claimyourcoal and go after what she wants: amazing, no strings fling where she can act out her fantasies and always comes first.
Worried about fixing the tarnished fire station that he stepped into as the new chief, Declan public shuts down the sexy as sin baker very publicly denying both of them something they've wanted since they met.
Thanks to a matchmaking coworker, so liquid courage, and a very opportunistic light outage, will Dani finally get what she wants? Or will the Grinch ruin Christmas for all involved?
These two had absolutely sizzling chemistry and enough sass and banter to leave me needing to know how their story played out.
Gosh darn it, Amy Alves! Did you just write the perfect Christmas book? (The answer is yes.)
The Grinch’s heart truly did grow 3 sizes in this story. And it was done through absolute perfection and hilarity!
Between Jaxon’s antics and Dani’s “list” I couldn’t help but feel for poor Declan as it felt like the entire tow put him through his paces. And sometimes with out them even realizing!
Now I’m going to turn on Christmas music and reread this… because it’s needed!
This was my 1st Christmas romance of the year and it was a great one. I love the banter between Dani and Declan. Dani is determined to have a great Christmas this year which includes going after what she needs sexually. Since she's been turned down by the New fire chief Declan Walker, she must find someone else to live out her fantasies with. Things quickly go ari when she asks another man to meet her behind the fire station and Declan accidently comes instead. Neither can deny they have incredible chemistry but will it work in the light of day? Pick this one up if you like smutty scenes, broody male and empowered female protagonist. Definitely a five star for me
Loved this one! This was a cute, spicy holiday novella!
Grumpy sunshine is my favorite trope, so I'm not surprised with how much I enjoyed this. The age gap and small town setting just made me love it more.
Dani was so cute in her pursuit of Declan, and I loved how she was constantly messing with him. Declan was my favorite type of grumpy alphamale. The relationship didn't feel rushed or like insta-love even though it's a novella.
The spice was fantastic, and the dirty talk was so hot! It's definitely a great, quick holiday read!
A girl who LOVES Christmas! And a guy who hates it!
YES YES YES YES YES YES YES!!!! I can't say that enough times. Declan 🥵🥵🥵🥵 DANI 🥵🥵🥵🥵🥵🥵
Love love LOVE them and their whole relationship. I love how it first started off as just getting off with each other. BUT soon quickly turned into far more because of their secret crushes on each other.
Gosh I need this to be a full BOOK and not just a novella 😭😭😭
I love them and I wish that I could read their story for the first time again. Goodness 🥵🥵🥵 a spicy Christmas story?
SPICY HALLMARK! It's an immediate yes for me.
Okay now that I have vented a little, I am now going to go reread Falling for the Grinch 😘😘😘
Yes, yes, yes!!! When I think of a holiday story, this is precisely what I want to read. Falling for the Grinch is funny, has sexy banter, and, OMG, Dani, and Declan will burn down the damn bakery.
Give me Chief Grinch any day. This book is the perfect grumpy shine for the holiday season. I love that Dani chipped and chipped away Declan's coal exterior.
This book is a super great holiday novella! This is my second Amy Alves book and it always makes me want to read more of her books. Grumpy/Sunshine, great smut, and an amazing story, what else could you ask for.
I'd give this a million stars if I could, and here's why. I'm a huge lover of slow burns and therefore need a LOT of story. Novellas rarely compare to a full-length novel because there's simply no room for all the backstory & build-up.
However, Ms. Alves has written this novella masterfully. So much so that it felt like a full, well-rounded book.
Mr. Grinch was OMFG, and that's the best way I can describe him. Which is another thing that keeps me coming back for more of Ms. Alves's books. The heroes are always guys made of dreams while simultaneously being hot AF. And the heroines are so relatable, you just want to hang out with them. While the MCs in each book are their completely own thing (i.e. each a different, quirky character), the author has this insane ability to make pairs whose chemistry is through the roof. Throw in tons of humor, and it's no wonder Ms. Alves has cemented herself as one of my all-time favorite authors. I'd read her soccer-mom-errands list and freaking devour it.
I'm itching for the next book in the Vaughn Brothers series because the glimpse Jensen and Gracie we got in this novella already tells me I'm in for another favorite couple.
Oh, and I'm getting this in paperback because it's an instant holiday must-read.
*I received an ARC copy, and this is my honest review.
I am 𝑳𝑰𝑽𝑰𝑵𝑮 for Dani and Declan!! 🫠🫠 The grumpy firefighter that wants to put a damper on all the Christmas sunshine that Dani brings. These two are perfection and there is definitely plenty of 🔥🔥🔥 in this one.
Dani is on a mission to check off her ‘Claim Your Coal’ naughty list fantasies and her eyes are set on Declan! This is a small town romance that includes characters from past and future books. Definitely recommend this one for a quick, steamy holiday read!
🎁Age Gap 🎁Grumpy/Sunshine 🎁Steamy Small Town 🎁Holiday Novella 🎁Smutty Hallmark Rom-Com
When I read the dedication at the start of the book: "For anyone wishing that Hallmark's feel-good, holiday romance movies had some smut . . ." I felt like Falling for the Grinch had been written especially for me! And man, it didn't disappoint. So what's it about?
When bakery owner Dani decides that it's time to #ClaimYourCoal and secure her place on Santa's naughty list by having some no strings attached festive fun with a hot guy, her plans become slightly de-railed when she kisses the wrong man in an illicit store cupboard encounter, and she likes it a bit too much. Declan Walker is the local fire chief and the man hell bent on spoiling Dani's festive cheer by crushing her plans for the emergency services Christmas party on health and safety grounds. But after that kiss Dani has decided that she wants 'Chief Grinch' for Christmas, even if he thinks she's too young, and too tempting . . .
Falling for the Grinch has the perfect blend of sexy Christmas feel-good ingredients: A cheerful, sweet, successful heroine who isn't afraid to go for what she wants? Check. A hot, brooding fire Chief with muscles for days? Double check. Grumpy vs sunshine? Check. Searing hot chemistry and allllll the romance? Yep! I loved every word of it and couldn't put it down. Beauty sleep can wait!
The book is full of great, fun characters. Dani was an absolute sweetheart, with an infectious joy de vivre and I loved her banter and tenacity as she relentlessly pursued and goaded Declan. Her sunny personality was the perfect foil to Declan's grumpy, brooding one, their chemistry was hotter than the fires Declan fights and the spice was chef's kiss.
Let's talk about Declan . . . Wow! Fire fighters are my weakness and coupled with his dark looks, and protective, alpha nature, Declan was on a one way ticket straight to the top of my book boyfriend list!
It was great to be back in the small town of Vaughn and reconnect with the characters from Falling for the Bachelor. I enjoyed seeing more of Liv's brother's Jaxon and Jensen and I can't wait to see what's in store for Jensen and Grace. Their chemistry was explosive!
Falling for the Grinch is a sexy, witty and achingly romantic read that is guaranteed to bring the festive cheer and make even the coldest heart grow three times.
Title: Falling For The Grinch Author: Amy Alves Hero/Heroine: Declan & Dani Tropes: Age Gap, Small Town, Grumpy/Sunshine,
THE GOOD 😀
When one of your favourite authors writes a Christmas novella, you know it’s going to be bloody amazing. And this was. I gladly would have read a full length novel of Declan and Dani’s adventures, I was that immersed in their story. After making her intentions clear toward Declan, Vaughn’s grumpy Fire Chief, and subsequently being shot down, Dani makes it her mission to end up on the naughty list this Christmas. Sick of waiting around for someone to walk into her bakery and sweep her off her feet, she takes matters into her own hands, with the help of her adorably clumsy and hilarious best friend Gracie (the bit where she gets stuck under a shelving unit had me in bits laughing). This kicks off a seriously spicy set of events that neither Declan nor Dani saw coming (and no, that wasn’t a well timed pun, get your minds out of the gutter folks). I absolutely adored everything about this spicy festive novella. As is expected by this author, this story had me hooked from the first word, and I loved seeing Dani slowly break down grumpy Dec’s defences. These two had enough chemistry to light a whole towns worth of Christmas lights, and I was here for it. The usual small town shenanigans from the residents of Vaughn added even more humour to the story, especially the dynamic between Declan, Jensen and Jax. I need to move to a small town where hot Emergency service blokes are in large supply, clearly I’m missing out. Falling For The Grinch was, as expected, an absolute joy to read and I cannot wait to read Gracie and Jensen’s story after seeing snippets of them in this. I have a feeling that will be pretty damn epic too.
THE BAD ☹️
Not long enough. Yes I’m aware it’s a novella, but still.
Thank you to the author for providing me with a copy of this to read. This is my honest review.
OVERALL THOUGHTS: Hilarious festive novella with enough spice for you to require a glass of milk whilst reading it STEAM LEVEL: 🔥🔥🔥 STAR RATING: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Having first picked up Ms.Alves's work earlier this year i couldn't wait to read more of her books! When i found out she was going to be releasing a Naughty List book i immediately said "I need that in my life!" I picked it up as soon as i could and had to devour it in one sitting. I loved this story!!
Dani and Declan's journey captured this Christmas loving heart of mine! Dani is determined this holiday season to fulfill her naughty wish list. Fire Chief Declan AKA Chief Grinch isn't a fan of Christmas nor the events the town has that can cause problems because of it. The sweet baker, Dani gets under his skin as well every time they meet. One kiss though changes things. Will Declan be the right man to help Dani with her naughty wish list?
The banter between Dani and Declan was everything and oh so entertaining! These two had me grinning non stop. I was so glad that i got to dig into both of their minds and the way i related to these two. I adored Dani and how she went after what she want. Just like her baked goods, she was so sweet. Declan was Grinchy, but oh did he ever surprise me in the best of ways! This man and his blushworthy ways. 🥵 I loved that no matter how he fought his feelings, his caring towards Dani shined. These two together were so fantastic!
You know when you read a story and immediately want to go back and reread it just so you can stay in that world with those characters longer? Yeah, that's exactly what happened to me with Falling for the Grinch!
With Falling for the Grinch, Ms.Alves has created such a page turner of a Christmas read that brought it all from the heart to the heat and feels! Her writing is so addictive and i couldn't get enough! I can't wait for her next release in the new year, Falling for the Jerk!
You need something to read this holiday season whether it's so you can curl up with those sweet treats you made with some hot cocoa and a cozy blanket or just need an escape that this time of year can bring, Falling for the Grinch is the read for you! You don't wanna miss out on the Grinch and his Cupcake. 😉🎄💗🧁
*I volunteered to read and review a copy of this book from the author*
Falling for the Grinch is set in the small town of Vaughn. There are appearances from the Voughn brothers who are the main focus in Amy Alves's spin off series of the Landry Love Series but is focused on the Chief Grinch, Delcan Walker and the cheerful ball of sugar cookies, Dani Reed.
Dani is claiming her coal this holiday season and after getting rejected by the hot fire Chief months ago, she sets her sights on sexy santa, but things don't go her way and she ends up having a steamy make out turned 'fingerbang' session with none other than the Grinch himself.
There is so much to this Novella and yet so little. I loved seeing Declan accepting a onetime thing and then quickly realizing he made the best mistake ever.
Dani claiming her coal is everything and more. I loved seeing her taking control of her sexuality and not being afraid of getting what she wants. And boy, does she get everything she wants.
I loved seeing Chief Grinch embody the character and all the references to the classic tale.
Oh, and let's not even start with his dirty mouth. I also enjoyed the fact that Amy added our leading characters to her next book as side characters in here. It got us to know them a little better before we dive into their story.
One more note; the twins Jensen and Jaxon. I adored them and midway through I got so confused because I was like, "wait, I thought Jaxon was santa and he was the EMT." It was fun because outside of fiction people get confused about twins, so I thought it was cool how it still kind of worked for me as a reader to get confused. I don't know.
Any way, this was a great holiday novella! Highly recommended.
I love a festive Christmas novella and Falling for the Grinch has checked off all my holiday boxes. The Naughty List has certainly introduced me to a wonderful bunch of new to me authors, and one of them being Amy Alves. Dani is the sweet as sugar hometown bakery owner who is in desperate need of turning in her good girl card. She wants to be a bit naughty and may or may not have a list that needs to be checked. She has her sights on a man she deems out of reach, a bit older than her and seems to not have an interest in her. She soon decides to make the town flirt her mark but soon an accidental meeting in a dark closet sets the stage for something neither of them was expecting. Declan is our sizzling hot grumpy grinch fire chief. He has been steering clear of the too sweet for him baker but when a mix up in the supply closet has them more than too close for comfort things are about to get very interesting in the little town of Vaughn. You can't keep secrets in a small town, and we soon have quite a cast of characters getting all up in this couple's business and that in itself was of so much fun! I was loving the banter and chemistry between Dani and Declan. For each pleasant word she would utter he would counter act with his grumpiness and shoot it down. It soon becomes evident that Dani can catch more chiefs with sugar! Can Declan be so sure that he is not the man for the oh so sweet Dani? Get ready for the sparks to fly between our hot firefighter and our baker. ~~Michele McMullen ~~

Take a pinch of Hallmark, a dash of spice, a hot Fire Chief and a sassy Baker. Throw them into a Small Town cooking pot, bring to the boil, and you have yourself Falling for The Grinch. And in true Amy style, this was yet another gift that kept giving
There is a reason I'm on a mission to collect all the physical copies of Amy's books and this one and the list below pretty much sums up why
🎁Age Gap 🎁Grumpy/Sunshine 🎁Steamy Small Town 🎁Holiday Novella 🎁Smutty Hallmark Rom-Com
Declan aka Cheif Grinch is as grumpy as they come and his surly demeanor is enough to make even the bravest of souls want to give him a wide berth. He's determined to not let Dani under his skin and not just because of the age gap
Dani however is on a mission to #claimhercoal this Christmas and she's not about to let Declan's hesitance to take things any further between them stop her. She's not taking no for an answer - no matter how many times Declan tells her. When these two finally get it on, let me tell you it's a good job he's in the business of putting out fires because damn they were hot - 🔥🧯
I think everyone knows how much I love Amy's storytelling. From the small town settings to the plot and the pacing everything she puts her pen to turns to gold and to have packed so much into a novella is just 🙌
Thank you Amy for yet another opportunity to #arc read for you in exchange for my review
