A great value collection of the first three books in the series.
#1 For The Fight 4*
Cop Luella Brayshaw just feels all of the hurt 12 years after SWAT team operator Nate Rivers walked away from her. But by the time she sees him on the train, everything starts to go very wrong. Nate knows he made the right decision all those years ago, but it is far to remember why when she is in front of him looking all strong, gorgeous and justifiably furious with him. When a gunman takes their carriage hostage the past doesn't matter as even though they are not armed they both have to work together to save everyone on the train. When the past and the present collide, passion ignites, but can the mistakes of the past be forgiven so they can have a future together?
I really enjoyed this story with the drama of the hostage situation, the history of their past, and how they handled both situations. Lou was strong and feisty and very focused on preserving life which given her history of a mistake was understandable. It was easy to read, feel and understand and I was totally on the side of Lou and Nate to save all those people as well as manage to sort out their relationship as they were obviously made for each other. Contains mature content.
#2 Out Run The Night 3*
High School teacher Bethwyn Banfield is recently divorced and decides out of character to go into town and has an instant attraction to a tall, dark and tattooed stranger. WASP Team Undercover cop Damon Nyhuis has been infiltrating a notorious Notechi Motorcycle Club for the last two years, but when he sees his former high school calculus teacher the last thing on his mind is his job. They are both kidnapped and dragged into the middle of nowhere and so Beth and Damon must escape the gang and then travel across a vast desert with the gang on their heels. Even so, their passion is off-the-charts hot as they run at night and rest during the day. Will there be a future for the teacher who wants her own family, and the cop who makes certain he’s always alone?
I enjoyed this story with the age gap, the conflict on having a family or no family, priorities and whether it was better to readjust because they were just right together. Lots of violence, danger and drama in this book. Easy to read and understand. Contains mature content.
#3 Danger In Trust 4*
IT executive Emily Valente is very independent and has no time for her estranged politician mother and so it is very unimpressed when a threat to her mother means that she has two Elite SWAT bodyguards on one of the biggest nights of her career. One of those bodyguards is tall, sexy and a distraction. Elite SWAT bodyguard Griffin Walters is focused and exemplary and so it is just another standard job except he feels an attraction to the smart and stubborn woman he has been assigned to protect. Then something unthinkable happens and suddenly Griff is fighting not only to save Emily's life but also his own. With no idea who they can trust they need to work together to survive the night but as sparks fly are they willing to break their own rules to have a future together or will the last person they expect betray them before they ever get that chance?
I enjoyed this story with the two people thrown together and finding that they have an immediate attraction but are reluctant and were then unable to deny it, especially when it all goes wrong. I loved the way that Emily was strong and independent although I did find her stubbornness irritating at times. Griff was his usual strong type who started from the outset breaking his own rules and professionalism and so it was interesting to see him so tortured at the end when he finally went for broke. Easy to read, feel and understand, there were plenty of surprises and action in this story. Contains mature content.
For the Fight - Book 1 I purchased the first three books in this series in a box set. I am reviewing individually.
Lou is on desk duty after being sidelined for an error in judgement. She's supposed to be on the desk of Elite Swat but somehow they have her being the 'target' in a training exercise. As such she decides to be the best target ever and manages to escape them at almost every turn. That is until she spots Nate and she takes the exercise a step further putting them in a difficult position.
Nate was following the target, he hadn't had a good look at her although as he watched her approach the train station he recognized the walk. He's surprised to realize Lou's his target. He doesn't understand why she's playing target when actors usually do that. He has no choice but to follow as she got on the train.
They are about to leave when a woman catches Lou's eye and they stop.
Being in a hostage situation out of uniform is not ideal, but these two are better prepared than most to handle it.
The tension and intensity of the situation is clear from the start and I loved the interactions between Lou and Nate. They have much to resolve but the chemistry between them is palpable.
I'm already starting the next book in this series.
Out Run the Night - Book 2 On an impulse after learning her ex-husband was now in a serious relationship, Bethwyn decided to go out to a bar with the intention of getting laid. She really hadn't thought that whole thing through and had just decided to leave the bar, giving up on her one night out of character. Then she's approached by Damon.
Damon's still undercover as Todd aka 'Crawls' but when he sees Bethwyn he knows he has one chance to get her attention and he takes it. What he doesn't expect is to have company bust in at his house. He'd let his guard down and now they are both in trouble. Notechi type of trouble that could very well end with them both dead.
It was mid-morning by the time they arrived at Tiger Snake Station where the Notechi headquartered. That's when everything goes a bit crazy.
From an initial fight because of the threat to Beth things start to go downhill. Fortunately, Knife's mistress Suz puts up a fuss and he decides to take her back to the city. From here Damon and Beth make their own luck and begin a harrowing journey across the desert. something that must be accomplished before Knife gets back.
There is plenty of suspense, action and sizzle in this book and I'm already reading the next one.
Danger In Trust - Book 3 Emily Valente has been summoned; her mother has some important information for her that cannot be imparted over the phone. Donna Valente is the premier of Western Australia and it's taken a long time for Emily to have some autonomy far away from the spotlight her mother basks in.
There's a viable threat from the Notechi, against not only the premier but also Emily and bodyguards are being assigned. Emily hasn't had bodyguards in a long time and while she understands the importance of them, she has a life. Emily is up for an award she has worked very hard to win and there is no way she's not attending the awards ceremony.
Griffin Walters is to be one of Emily's bodyguards, he meets her for the first time by her literally running into him. He's immediately attracted to her something that hasn't happened to him before. Duty comes first, always.
Griff was the one inside the ballroom at the awards, while his partner Ben Smith handled things outside. All was going well, until it wasn't.
To say things go FUBAR is an understatement as everything ramps up and the players are not who I expected at all. Now they're on the run, and don't know who they can trust.
So many twists and turns as Griff and Emily run for their lives, get to know each other and their relationship even gets pretty steamy.
I look forward to catching up on the rest of this series.
Note: This review is only for the first book of the box set (For the Fight). Thanks to feeling mostly underwhelmed by the finished story, my interest in completing the set (and the remaining series) has been thwarted. At any rate, my review is to follow, but first...a brief, non-spoiler play-by-play of how I reacted to whatever page I was on (no spoilers):
Page 9 - Why "Lou?" Lame. "Lue" or "Ella" would be better. Page 13 - Silly-spelled nickname aside, I like Lou (so far). Page 29 - Okay story, you've got my attention now. Page 50 - Well now, that's quite the revelation there. Page 61 - Well duh. Why ELSE would he devise a strategy? Page 74 - Ehhh. Weak motivation for the gunman, ngl. Page 79 - Hmm....what'd Lou do wrong, I wonder? Page 110 - Lame reason to not be in contact for 10 years. Page 115 - Hormones dictating behavior is power? Page 124 - Delusion is real. This is just horniness. Page 125 - Riiiiiiight Page 128 - Oyy. Idiotic. *eyeroll* Page 130 - Wow. Two wrongs don't make a right! Page 153 - Ugh can this get anymore highschool? Page 154 - Whose POV is this again? Page 165 - Omg this again?! Stop. It's enough already. Page 179 - Handle it your own damn self. Page 181 - Unbidden villain monologues. How convenient. Page 187 - This is so exhausting now.
I mean, the story started out decently enough, I suppose. Sure, I'd have LOVED to have a better foundation to Luella and Nate as characters before being thrown right into the midst of their dramatic reunion within a high-stakes hostage plot, but I was still able to deal. It at least got my attention, and I figured I can look forward to an expansion of the two later on so that I can learn how to either like, accept, or relate to them. Retroactive storytelling via flashbacks isn't an angle I prefer in the stories I read, but some authors can pull it off swimmingly and can give me an exciting read anyway.
Such was not the case here, unfortunately.
The hostage plot was intriguing at first, but woefully short-lived and unbelievable; it wasn't even the real story at all. Once it plodded onward to its inevitable conclusion and the story's REAL villainy came into play, my interest waned after every page. It didn't help that neither Luellen nor Nate felt fully realized. They never amounted to anything, simply because their initial relationship was one that was told to me and not witnessed, not even via flashbacks. I was never convinced of anything between them and found myself being annoyed more than anything else, ESPECIALLY with Lou. The rate of speed in which I turned on that woman was the stuff of legend.
At any rate, as I said earlier, I simply stopped caring after a while. There were several enjoyable moments, yes, but they were too outnumbered by an over-abundance of narration, too little dialogue, too unlikable characters, and too many uncompelling features. I'll not finish the series and will instead move on to something else.

I read these books individually and am excited to find them now in a box set. This is such a wonderful series that you just won’t want to miss reading it. For the Fight - Well written storyline with excitement, fear, danger and a second chance romance. The main characters in this book have strong values and are extremely independent. When danger threatens Lou, Nate will do everything within his power to protect her. Out Run the Night - Fast-paced action tale. Running for their lives, Damon and Beth must rely on each other and hope that help will arrive in time! This is a well-developed storyline with great police procedural descriptions and an ending that leaves you wanting more. Danger in Trust - Wow! This action filled tale has a kidnapping, danger, betrayal, evidence tampering, intrigue and an unexpected romance. Who is really behind the kidnapping? Has E-Swat been compromised? There are so many questions that need answers in this great police procedural romance. The characters are realistic and the situations within the storyline could quite possibly occur.
The stories in the collection deliver action, drama, emotion and intensity. The respective couples face insurmountable danger, doubts and more even as they find the person meant to be their destiny. If you enjoy second chances, fulfilled opportunities or protector romance you will not be disappointed. The series has been fun to read with strong, protective, resilient, dynamic men and women who come together during harrowing times.
For the Fight - 4 stars Well, I was excited about this book. I love law enforcement reads and suspense, so I had high hopes. The plot line *was* good, but I felt like half the book was spent in the bedroom, which was really disappointing.
Out run the night- 5 stars Even though wary from the first book, I decided to go for the second. At the beginning I was worried it was a mistake, but then we got plenty of suspense. There was still a ton of steam though.
This book kept me on the edge of my seat the entire book. Great characters and a great plot intrigued me as I struggled to figure out who was the “boss”. At one point I thought it was him but the story shook me up and I lost him. Great love story with 2 very different people who never really believed in love especially not love at first sight. Read this book.
The box set is definitely worth it. This group of brave men and women fight to survive certain death situations while finding love. What's not to like, the mystery, suspense, romance, and a happily ever after? I felt breathless wondering how they would get out of these situations.
I thoroughly enjoyed all three of these stories, and liked the change of locations and interesting vocabulary. The characters and plot s were unique and certainly held my interest. Thanks for some good reading to cure me of my Covid!
This book is a romantic suspense novel about Nate Rivers and Luella Brayshaw, Damon Nyhuis and Bethwyn Banfield, Griffin Walters and Emily Valente getting together with each other. This book is a good read.
