When death leaves a warning... FBI Special Agent Stella Knox hasn’t finished the paperwork on her last assignment when she walks straight into her next case. A memo written on bright yellow paper looks unassuming at first.
What are you afraid of, Paul Slade?
It’s a curious question. One the Special Agent in Charge of the Nashville office doesn’t take seriously...at first.
One note might have been a joke. Two were a plan. A third leads to a missing deputy. And when a fire inspector mysteriously vanishes, it’s clear someone is deliberately targeting the city’s most courageous city servants—and wants them to know it.
As Stella and her team scramble to pinpoint who’s behind the disappearances, a killer is playing a deadly game of cat and mouse...and the FBI office is next.

when a note is pasted on the garage door of the FBI asking SSA Slade what he's afraid of, it begs the question of if this is a joke. But when a sheriff deputy goes missing without a trace, things take a serious turn
I have to say that of all the books thus far in this series, this one creeped me out the most. I'm all creeped out and totally paranoid. That first chapter had me shuddering and closing my eyes not wanting to read any further. GAH!! it freaked me out 😆 I managed to like fast read and move on but seriously. THAT WAS A BIG NOPE 🙅♀️🚫. It was a fast and easy read though and so far, I am really liking this series. I do recommend.
Love this series and the characters. It was nice to see focus on Dani and Mac and how tight team is. Wished more Stella and Hagen.. A lot of potential for those 2.
I started reading Killer Memo at bedtime and before I got too far into the first chapter, I stopped reading and decided to read it during the day. I would have not been able to sleep if I finished reading what was happening to the deputy.
Stella finds a note on the FBI door that asks her boss, Paul Slade, “what are you afraid of.” As it turns out this type of note has been left at the sheriff’s office and the fire department. A deputy from the sheriff’s office goes missing as well as a fire inspector. Stella and her team are assigned to find the missing persons. During the investigation, two of the FBI team go missing.
The person who is responsible for the kidnappings asks them, “what are you afraid of.” You wonder how does he know what they are afraid of as he tortures them with their fears. Will Stella and the team find anyone alive? Will they find their two missing teammates alive?
Hagen calls Stella wanting to finally talk to her; however, she gets another call from her boss telling her to head to Kentwood as they have another weird case with three bodies. Too bad I have to wait to read the next book.
If you have not read the Stella Knox FBI Mystery Series, I recommend starting with the first one, Killer Smile, so you will know and understand the characters.
This killer story is based on fear and courage. How do we humans approach both? What are the expectations of our peers, the companies we work for, the jobs we have, our families, or ourselves? Are they reasonable expectations?
This killer selects people, studies them and tests them to see if they have the "courage" to identify their fear, say it out loud, and face it. Will they succeed or fail?
Does the killer ever pose the question to themselves? What would the answer be? Can they face their fear? Overcome it? What brought them here?
This hit close to home for the team. The memo was left for their leader...Slade. Was it a joke? Real?
This was gripping as we, yes we, tried to hunt this killer down. It was a group effort and you, the reader, are right there.
I thoroughly enjoyed this. I hope you do as well. Carry on...order the book now !
Killer Memo written by Mary Stone and Stacy O'Hare is another mystery written by two great Authors. As exciting as every book they have written so far. Memo's/Notes are being left asking curious questions. They are being ignored as just odd Memo's by everyone, until those who are named begin disappearing. This killer has everyone grasping at straws. What are your fears? Can you face that fear? Can you fight that fear? Can you survive that fear? Can you survive this killer and the games they play? And as always I am excited and can't wait for the next book by these Authors.
I received this book as an ARC from the Author for an honest review.
Killer Memo by Mary Stone brings back Stella and her FBI buddies on another intriguing case. A new case drops in their lap and arrives at the front door of FBI headquarters. People who have jobs that help other's are starting to disappear and the FBI is on that list. Someone is taping notes to the doors of the builds of these folks asking "what are you afraid of?". Is Stella in trouble? Her boss? Her FBI friends? Once again, her quest to find out who killed her father and what happened to "her uncle" are sidelined? Is she ever able to work on and solve this case? A fun ride with well developed characters. I received an ARC copy of this book. All thoughts are my own. I recommend this novel!
"Killer Memo" was so good, I read it in one sitting the day after cataract surgery. It's another solid installment in the Stella Knox series.
Faced with a deluge of paperwork, Stella and her team are anticipating a weekend off, when Stella finds a note taped to the front door of the Nashville FBI office. The note asks her boss, "What Are You Afraid Of, Paul Slade?"
When similar notes are found at different government facilities and people start disappearing; Stella and the team begin an investigation that grows increasingly frantic as it becomes evident that they themselves are the next intended victims.
This unit does not get a break! Stella is back with her team and they all take a hard hit in this case as they race against the clock trying to find who is kidnapping law enforcement and taunting their leaders. Along with the case, Stella is trying to balance her concerns and confusion over her fathers case, “Uncle Joe” and Hagens role in helping her. This story showcases all of the characters brilliantly. The strength, emotion and fear was upfront and solidified their jobs and friendships. The ending was a cliffhanger/segue to the next story and I loved how it answered questions but also raised new ones!
People are missing and threatening memos are being left at the FBI, Sheriff’s office, and Fire department saying “What are you afraid of.”. Who specifically is being targeted? Will Stella Knox and her team find the killer before they lose a member of their team? This is a great addition to the Stella Knox series, maybe one of the scariest ones. Great plot, it keeps you guessing throughout the whole book, lots of mystery and suspense, and likable characters. You won’t be disappointed. I highly recommend it to everyone.
Killer Memo, the fifth book in the Stella Knox series by Mary Stone is a must read for all mystery series aficionados. If you have read the prior books in the series and without giving away the plot you are in for an exciting new adventure! The characters are well defined and the story line is definitely a page turner and will keep.you on the edge of your chair. Killer Memo is without a doubt worthy of a five star rating. I am looking forward to the next installment.in the series.
Another great book by Mary Stone and her co-author. Stella Knox and the rest of her team are called to help find a missing Deputy. As they gather at their office, Stella finds a note for her boss that asks What are you afraid of? They shrug off the note until a Fire Inspector goes missing and find out both the Sheriff and the Fire Chief had both received similar notes. This book is told not only from the FBI perspective but also from the killers perspective. This is a story that will keep you guessing what will happen next and will they be able to save the newest victims.
AGreat read a real page turner, lot a twists and turns. it was hard to A down at times. . The aurhor is a great story teller, has a way with words and paints a picture so well you think your write there living with them. It had an amazing number twist and turns that I just didn't see coming, it was frustrating at times , but it had a some what satisfying ending. . I really kept looking forward to the next reading section of it.. But its a pretty depressing read.
As always, this Stella Knox mystery was a great read. Stella's character is evolving and growing with each book, but more than that, this book dove deeper into the other characters - Mac, Dani, Chloe and Hagan. The story line kept you guessing as to who the bad guy was, and the pace of everything happening made this a very good read. Do you love thrillers and mysteries, and great crime drama - then this book, this series is for you!
Stella and the rest of the FBI Agents have their hands full again! Of course, a day just doing paperwork on the previous case can't even be started before another one literally drops right in their lap. Good grief! Let them take a moment please? No, doesn't happen. Stella has to face her greatest fear....losing someone she cares about! Can she get to them in time? Lots of ups and downs in this book. Ready to read the next book.
Very exciting mysteries band I can't wait for the next one
To me there is nothing more satisfying than getting to the solution of a good mystery. Unless it 's a mystery within a mystery, as well as growing friendships, and a slowly building maybe relationships, an FBI procedural, and one more subplot hinted at. I love the characters & the different sets of these very original stories. I know I'll be watching to the last books which I hope is not for years!
This newest Stella Knox thriller is just that, thrilling! Stella finds a note on the office door, then a deputy goes missing, and a Fire inspector does as well. Stella and the team are called in because it's so unusual for either to just disappear. Things heat up when it hits closer to home. Another thrilling hit from Stone and O'Hare.
The Killer memo is again a page turner, thrilling with unexpected turns. Authors really know what they are doing. They thrill you, make you think and emotionally involved. I had my favorite characters, Stella just joined them firmly. And her personal story, Hagen and perfect flow will keep you hooked to the end. Another perfect thriller
Book #5 in the Stella Knox series is another page turner. Someone is leaving threatening notes and people are being murdered. This is a very entertaining thriller. It kept me guessing from beginning to end. A very good thriller. *this was a complimentary digital copy and this is my honest review*
Killer memo is another great book from Mary Stone. The team gets a note attached to their door and before they can determine if it is serious they learn about other notes. Stella Hagan and the rest of the team start investigating but despite missing persons they have no proof of a crime. And then Dani and Mac have vanished! Can they get to them in time???
Another great book in the Stella Knox series. Excitement from the start with missing persons the FBI has been called in to find. While investigating, 2 of their team go missing & the rush is on to find them alive. Hagan & Stella still have that connection & its becoming deeper, hopefully solving the mystery of both their Father's deaths.
Give the girl same time to catch her breath, Mary and Stacy. The ink isn't even dry on her signed summaries of her last case; and she has another case already? Are you going to have her committed to a hospital for mental and physical exhaustion after her next case? You probably should. I like the Stella Knox series. Keep up the good work, Mary and Stacy.
Killer Memo( Stella Knox FBI Mystery Series Book 5)
OMG!!!!!!!!!! I loved this book. I was worried about Mac and Dani, but they got to them just in time. I feel bad about the fire inspector and the deputy, I was hoping that Veronica might live but it didn't happen. I can't wait to read the next book.
Mary Stone has a great writing style, fleshing out her characters until you can feel them. Gripping plots, evil villains, a whole range of personalities on Stella's FBI team keep the story moving quickly. I highly recommend this series for lovers of the genre!!
Excellent plot line, different going in a direction that is unexpected. There is a continuing back thread also that is slowly developing in each book related to the death of Stella Konx's father. The bok is well written and hard to put down once you start reading. I am binging through these, can't stop knowing where this story is going.
This was a great read and even better than the last one, in my opinion. Though there wasn't as much blood and gore, it was much more sinister and nerve-wracking to read with the "face your fears" theme of the killer.
I also really love the friendship between Stella and Mac. Mac here reminds me of Mac from Veronica Mars.
Great read, exciting from the beginning to the end! I'm glad there was a happier ending to the 2 agents that were captured. I wasn't sure I could've kept reading if the killer had it in him to kill a pregnant woman and her unborn child. But it worked out in the end! Can't wait for the next adventure, with the hopes that Hagen finally levels with Stella.
A big mess, no clues, can be figured out with persistence.
Good read. Really hard case to solve and protect the team. No leads. Not sure they have bodies, Just missing persons. Need to dig deep and continue to get bits and pieces. Then a small break, with two of the team missing. No sleep until the get it done. Great team work with great results!
