The whole idea of even owning a business, let alone one that had an out-of-the-ordinary sideline like producing charms for those in need, is still new to LEXIE RAVENSCRAFT. A few months ago, out of the blue, she'd received a letter informing her that she had inherited her great-aunt Pandora Ravenscraft's estate.
Unfortunately, she'd soon discovered that her old life had been one big lie and the picture of herself as a wealthy heiress was about as far from reality as her name.
Turns out, she wasn't Lexie Green, she was Alexandra Ravenscraft. And if that wasn't enough to blow her mind, she was the Ravenscraft Shield. An entity that wielded magical powers to be used for the benefit of the citizens of Echo Springs, her new hometown.
Although Lexie is beginning to settle into her new role, there is still a lot she doesn't understand. While she's aware that having supernatural skills is apparently the norm in the community, it's considered impolite, or maybe even dangerous, to ask what type of abilities her fellow Echo Springians possessed.
This is why rescuing her mother from the Wizard of Washington, figuring out how said Wizard ended up dead, and keeping Echo Springs from the dark magic is so difficult.
Denise Swanson lives in rural Illinois with her husband, classical composer David Stybr.
After 22 years as a practicing school psychologist, she's happiest sitting in her scree porch reading. However, when the weather turns too cold, she's willing to leave the Midwest to cruise the sunny Caribbean.
Denise is an animal lover, but her home is currently furless, since her kitty of 20 years passed away in August of 2016. Instead, she enjoys watching the wildlife out her office window.
The Right to Bear Charms (Forever Charmed Mysteries, #2) by Denise Swanson
In book 1, A Call To Charms, Lexi Ravenscraft inherited her great-aunt Pandora's estate which included a quant candy store in the mysterious town of Echo Springs. Sounds picturesque, right? Unfortunately for our MC, she is forced to confront her families deepest and darkest secrets-Oh, did I mention that Lexi has magical powers? No? Well, that's because Lexi's own mother hid that little factoid from her, you guessed it, her entire life-which is just one of the many metaphorical skeletons hiding in the Ravenscraft family wardrobe.
In book 2, The Right to Bear Charms, Lexi leads a search and rescue party after she receives a magical sign that her mother is in danger. The trio of rescuers finds Lexi's mother locked in a cage, and quickly free her from captivity. In the process, Lexi must confront her moms ex-lover; the very hard-pass, red-flag man known as the Wizard of Washington.
Confronting your moms ex-lover... Can we say, awkward?
The Wizard's rage catalyzes a relocation to Echo Springs to gain support from the town's ruling magical council and seek retribution against Lexi and her mother. His abrasive personality, however, alienates almost every citizen within city limits.
Public opinion sways and the general consensus: the wizard is better off dead-which fortunatly, happens! Yay! But unfortunately for Lexi and her friends, they are now the primary suspects.
Dun! Dun! Dun! - *in an increasingly louder and deeper voice*
As we know there are consequences to killing, and to prevent murder charges, Lexi and her friends must become detectives with one goal: discover who really killed the Wizard of Washington.

As a long time fan, I was thrilled when I heard Denise Swanson was writing the second book for her Right to Bear Charms series. I loved the addition of Mr. Briar and was really happy with the pace of the story. Denise continues to churn out enjoyable books. If you haven't read her blacklist, I suggest you check out the rest of her series. I've yet to come across one of her books that didn't leave me waiting for the next book to be published. She is one of the only authors who always has something new being published. I look forward to every one!
I rated this 3 stars. I am not sure how I feel about this book. There are parts I enjoyed and parts I am feeling impatient with. This pressure to marry one of the heirs to the other families. The secrets everyone is keeping. The cliched murderer, even in the reason was more original. There is a big bad darkness that will destroy everything, and people are just dancing around it. Lexie is kept in the dark and learning by inches. I just feel like people in the town would want to help each other more.
I was anxious to purchase and love this book after thoroughly enjoying the first one. Alas, that was not the case. it seems to me the author put very little effort into this book.... Not much character development or even storyline. The reuniting with her mother during an almost boring rescue started the story with somewhat of a bang but it all went rather ho hum after that. Definitely a case of buyers remorse for me.
I didn't love this one quite as much as the first book but it was still a very enjoyable read. It had a lot more character development for our 2 love interests and the main character does a lot of inner monologue so we get to see her mind at work.
I enjoyed this book, but not as much as the first, which was cute and magical. This read we learn more how Lexie learns of her true identity and how to incorporate her supernatural powers and how others ( families) in the community work together to solve issues.
What an enjoyable and magical mystery. I really loved the first book and the 2nd also had me enthralled from the start I’ll be excited to read any more I’m this series.
