Choose Them Wisely: Thoughts Become Things!

Rate this book
Living the life of your dreams isn't just about dreaming. It's also about following your impulses, turning over every stone, and stepping out into the world so that the wind can catch your sails. To those in the know, it's as if your dreams paint the picture and the Universe stands ready to bring it to life. Choose them Wisely is filled with the same inspirational messages from "the Universe" that made the Notes from the Universe trilogy so popular, but the thoughts have been expanded, containing even more information and concrete examples for how to actually apply these ideas to everyday life. Author Mike Dooley's conversational, inviting tone welcomes readers at every level of self-development into the wonder of their own self-directed futures.

This is one of those books that I pick up when I need a "refocusing moment." I randomly flip it open and read where I land. There have been days when I've gone, "Huh? Why is that relevant?" Strangely enough though, by the end of the day, it has become relevant. Other times, it's exactly what I needed to hear. This is definitely one I like to keep close at hand.

As an audiobook this was a little hard to manage. I usually listen on my 45 minute commute and I just didn't have enough time to digest these motivators. But I LOVED them. Thia book served as a great reminder that things are not as they appear....

This originally began as individual quotes and rhymes sent to inspire via email to employees and customers. It exploded after numerous years. The idea is a good one though reading it, even over the course of a few days made it feel very heavy handed and tedious.

After a good few pages, this book became very "samey". I think there was a lot of fancy words and embellishment... however, had some good sections, and the little verses were I interesting.
The book has a lovely dust cover and all the pages are pretty to look at with swirly blue borders. I just wish it was a capital C on the cover to match the capital T & W !!

I chose to read this book to honor the late Deon Kopke. He once recommended the book and because he passed away last month, I decided I must read it now, not later.

An interesting thing happened while reading this book: I felt as though I was getting a glimpse into Deon's mind and even felt at times like I was getting to experience one last conversation with him.

I can see why Deon liked this book, as he was one of the most optimistic and positive people I have ever met. I remember one time his car broke down blocks away from work and rain was coming down in torrents, yet when he arrived, looking like he'd taken a swim in the Fraser River, he smiled and laughed as he told me what had happened. There are so few people out there like him. The world really lost a special soul the day he passed away.

As for "Choose Them Wisely," it's funny because I thought it was going to be about friends and their influence over you and how you start to talk like the people around you... How you should choose them wisely in order to succeed in business. So I was fairly surprised when I found it was an inspirational book, one that aims to lift you up and make life's challenges and dreams seem possible. I now understand why Deon wanted us to read the book and it is too late to thank him for believing in us.

An easy and simple read. The book sends out some good vibes but I personally didn't find anything new in it. The author seems a bit too "hyped" but I'm sure that his intentions were good when he wrote it. Anyway, the book is motivational-ish but nothing remarkable.

This is a delightful book set up like a “daily devotional”. I apparently am not good at going back daily to read only one page but I got a lot out of this book when my attention was on it. The thoughts are inspiring and fun. Thanks Mike!

Good. Agree with the content. Listened to the audio walking the dog, commuting. Prefer listening to a story (telling) at than several quotations and excerpts.

This book helped increase my vibe. I listened causally and allowed it to give me new thoughts and ideas. I love the simplicity and the richness of how he delivers the information. A little woo-woo at times so know that. Overall I enjoyed it and would even listen again!

Excerpt: Choose Them Wisely

It's Me! Life! Thoughts are the things that draw life to you. Like a magnet to steel, they're how dreams come true. It's really that easy and a whole lot of fun, just know what you want and imagine it done. Sure, the manifestation part is easy. You already do it, day in and day out. Your dreams have come true. You’re living them right now! The heroes and heroines in your life—they’re pretty much what you thought you’d find, right? And the hills and valleys, the challenges and triumphs—just like you pictured them. You’ve got the right stuff, and you’re using it! The tricky part, and this isn’t always so obvious, is knowing what you really want. Tricky because it requires brutal honesty with yourself. It requires asking questions that ordinarily you wouldn’t have to ask, looking at facts you’ve “made up,” rethinking what they’re proving, and understanding your fears and your true motivations. No, of course you don’t have to go there. Almost no one does. You can fool most of the people most of the time, and no one’s going to come tap you on the shoulder to tell you that you’ve been kidding yourself. Accept the life you lead. Question yourself, and think deep. -From the book, Choose Them Wisely

I was pretty disappointed with this book. Lots of exclamation points and short (half to 2 page) ideas with tons of curlicues and wasted space. And quite a bit of it was boring, IMO. Maybe it's just not what I was expecting. Might be a good book to have on a bedside table if you like reading things in small doses.

I love Mike Dooley! This is chock-full of no-nonsense good advice delivered with a dose of humor and a feel-good vibe. I have the audio version, and its short format broken into individual thoughts makes it perfect to listen to whenever I need a pick-me-up!
