The Twelve

If it wasn't for Diggory Finch, the towns of Twin Falls would've been eaten alive by a incursion of monsters from the unthinkable beyond. Not that he's a hero, per se. It's more than he strung enough mistakes together in a row that something good happened, and wiped them off the face of the planet using the torrent of evil power that channels through him.

Heavy stuff.

But now, in the peaceful wake of a near-apocalypse, he finds himself falling in love with Alisha, starting up a gaming store in the family warehouse, and dealing with the Machiavellian eldritch manipulations of the twelve founding families of Twin all of whom want something from him, and the power his family somehow controls.

And if that wasn't enough, Diggory and the cults of his hometown have no idea that when he sent those abominations away, he totally tore a hole in the barrier that keeps the really bad things out, and one of them slipped into town.

And that thing really, really wants to give Diggory a kiss.

Welcome to The book two of The Darkness of Diggory Finch, a Lovecraftian eldritch horror series set in New England, filled with inappropriate humor, more gore than your average story, and more than a few moments that will leave you uncomfortable.

I didn't think the series could get better but it did. New players, loads of intrigue. I can't wait for the next installment. The narrator is amazing too

Diggory won the first battle against the monsters from beyond but unbeknownst to anyone, one evil being slipped in and of course is up to no good. Alisha and Diggory are getting closer, he has opened his Gaming Store in the island warehouse and he's also found out the groundskeeper is definitely no longer human, goes by the name Johnny and is actually in a way his ally as it's job is to protect him. He may also have an ally in his new employee Riker who may or may not but human or an ally. Diggory and members of The Twelve join together to fight this new evil and he finds each family of The Twelve seem to each have their own puppet masters. So many questions answered but so many more yet to be answered. I highly recommend this series if you're a fan of Lovecraft or just a fan of supernatural horror.

It's been a while since I read the first book in the series, so maybe that was my issue here? I remember quite liking the first one but this book was a slog to finish. There's so much world in this story, but it isn't getting fleshed out enough to suit me. I'll give the third a go, at some point, because there IS potential!

This book was just ok for me. I missed Diggorys quirkiness from book 1. And I get it, it’s called “The Twelve” for a reason, LOL. We get to learn more about them. But I was left more confused than entertained.

This was funny and loved all the game references. Hope there's a third book in the works because questions must be answered. The horror element isn't as high but the creep factor is strong with the BBEG 😬

First came the bird...

Solid storytelling, love the way the world in Twin Falls is just twisted enough from our normal for it to be significant. Diggory Finch is getting a little deeper into the darkness and I am glad he has Alisha at his side.
I can't wait to learn more!

Horror, mystery, and intrigue

This book dovetails nicely with the previous book. Diggory learns more about what he is. The people that want to use him are being revealed as is their motives. It's a compelling read.
