I'm not sure if this is my 5th or 6th Desiree Shapiro book in this series, but I do know from the first page on I'm hooked. This marvelous author brings me right into the thick of it everytime. I am right at home with Desiree and her immediate circle, Jackie, her secretary, Ellen, her niece and of course Desiree's current dating companion-Al Bonaventure.
In this case, Desiree's help is requested by an old flame who was not so nice. As a matter of fact he was a downright cad to say the least. It appears that Bruce Simon's (the old flame) wife, Cheryl, died under mysterious circumstances. Was being killed by an oncoming subway a mis-step or was she pushed? And if she was pushed, as Bruce suspects, who did it and why?

The characters in the Desiree Shapiro series have believable interactions and relationships. Desiree has a fun sense of humor that keeps me on track as the reader. Thankfully, the author, Selma Eichler,has just the right amount of situations going on concurrently with the plot. she never overwhelms the reader with nonsense.
Loved this book, couldn't put it down and love this series.

Highly recommended to all cozy lovers.

As much as Desiree Shapiro, Private Investigator, doesn’t want to .... she accepts the plea of her cheating ex-boyfriend to find out who killed his new wife. Not a lot of action in this story.... mostly doing what a PI really does.... question the involved people and try to fit the pieces together. .... Everyone (except rotten skunk lying ex-boyfriend) seem to be very nice people. Who (and how) could they have killed Cheryl??? Did she just trip and fall in front of the train? .................... Not one of my favorite cozy mysteries. Slow moving, plodding

Desiree helps a scummy ex-boyfriend out of a mess. She learns that Bruce is still scummy after the dust settles and she solves the case. Another great story!

Great main character. I find Desiree refreshing. She’s honest about herself and always gets the bad guy even if at her own peril. Good twists in this one and great wrap up

Though this book is #6 in the series, this is my first one. I am really enjoying it so far. If I keep enjoying it, I'm going to look into buying the others. It was given to me by one of my good friend who also enjoys cozy mysteries.

I started reading this book, and have round 80 pages left, but I have had to stop because I have to read 3 other books for book club.

Over a month later: I've read my 3 book club books and finished Murder Can Singe Your Old Flame too.

And because it was over 4 weeks later, I forgotten the small details. I didn't want to begin the book again, so I was unable to try to figure out who the murderer was. Fortunately, there was enough that I was able to remember for the most part, and still got to enjoy the mystery.

Spoiler Alert: I did find something that put up the flags for me: When Laura was padding yourself, there is no way that she could have ever been intimate with Lomax because he would had seen what she was doing and that would had given herself away.

Since I don't normally write reviews unless I have something specific to say, here's the break down of how I rate my books...

1 star... This book was bad, so bad I may have given up and skipped to the end. I will avoid this author like the plague in the future.

2 stars... This book was not very good, and I won't be reading any more from the author.

3 stars... This book was ok, but I won't go out of my way to read more, But if I find another book by the author for under a dollar I'd pick it up.

4 stars... I really enjoyed this book and will definitely be on the look out to pick up more from the series/author.

5 stars... I loved this book! It has earned a permanent home in my collection and I'll be picking up the rest of the series and other books from the author ASAP.

For some reason I didn't find this one as entertaining as her other mysteries. Maybe it was the topic. And the characters. I didn't like her exboyfriend and any of the flight attendants. And Desiree's love interest seemed to be super boring.

Not sure why the bad reviews because she was true to character as she freely admits she likes to nurture men, not be nurtured. He was a bad guy & remained a bad guy but Dez has heart. Love this series!
