Running for my life from a zombie horde is one thing but doing it with Jesse Winters at my side is a different beast. I have wanted him since the first moment he walked into the club I work at but I’ve never let him know. I’m the conquest Jesse hasn’t achieved, the man he really wants to take home at the end of the night, but I’m also the only one who ever seems to say no to him. He's gorgeous and enticing, but I have my reasons for declining the offers he makes night after night. That doesn't mean I want him to die, though. When the club explodes into a frenzied, feral zombie massacre, I do the only thing that comes to me in the moment: I grab Jesse and I run. We flee through the night for the cabin his family owns, battling zombies at every stop along the way, but I won’t be staying long when we arrive there. My growing desire to linger by his side where it’s safe is warring with the need to make sure my sister is still alive. I’m not sure I should be leaving, not when we’re just starting something that feels real, but I know I can’t stay. All I can do is promise Jesse that I’ll come back for him, no matter how long it takes. No matter the danger lurking in the darkness. No matter the horrors I’m made to endure. No matter if it means I’ll have to leave him again to save his life. I’ll always come back for him no matter what.

The Cabin is a part of the Final Days MM romance multiauthor series. Each apocalyptic book can be read as a standalone, but there are more thrilling zombie tales to enjoy, so why not grab them all?!
I loved the idea of this book, but it just didn’t pan out for me.
Dividing this book into two parts really didn’t help things. You throw a year of off-page separation in between a few days. So what you end up with is a romance that wasn’t strong enough to carry the plot and a plot that wasn’t strong enough to carry the romance. I wish there had either been more than like 48 hours of them together before being apart for a year, or some of that year apart shown. Because what I ended up with was instalove and low tension.
Ok, I had no idea what this book was about outside of the title, but yall, this was good.
So we have Jesse and Kemp, who have been attracted to each other but Kemp never gave in because he thought that Jesse was a slut and didn't want his co-workers at the club to talk about him.
During an evening at the club a zombie apocalypse starts. These two head out to a cabin where Kemp leaves Jesse and they spend a year apart. I was shocked cause I thought that they would survive together.
Things happen and Kemp escapes and finds his way back to the cabin. Jesse no longer wants to be a thing to be used anymore and they fall in love.
There is a lot of zombie killing and some editing issues, but neither is bad enough to take you out of the story.
The Cabin is the first book in a multi author series called Zombie Apocalypse. Sooo freakin good. Jesse is a nurse and likes to get busy on the weekends when he’s not working to destress. Kemp is a bartender at the club that Jesse like to visit. When a virus breaks out and zombies attack, Jesse and kemp are running for their lives. They go to Jess’s family cabin, but Kemp feels he needs to go looking for his sister and he leaves. A year late and Kemp comes back. This was a fun read, sweet and steamy in places and full of action in graphic detail, sooo good. Overall, a fantastic read! The story was really well written, the pacing flowed smoothly, highly recommend.
Hello zombie apocalypse. Jesse and Kemp met at a club where Kemp works at. They made it to Jesse’s parents cabin in the woods to stay safe. Kemp left to find his sister. Fast forward one year and Kemp is back at the cabin. This is a fast paced book where love can happen anywhere. Loved it and looking forward to reading the other 3 books in this series.
3.5* rounded up. This was fun and sweet with a lot of zombie. Gory, shambling, hordes of zombies. Be prepared to suspend some disbelief but otherwise it’s a fun story.
This was such a fun and thrilling read! Zombies have never been my first choice, and I was a little hesitant to start not knowing what I was getting myself into. However, this was really, really enjoyable. I am looking forward to the other stories in this multi-author series.
We start out meeting Jesse, a nurse who works hard and loves to go to the local club each weekend to find someone to help him forget all of the horrible things he sees. Kemp works at the bar and has refused every advance that Jesse sends his way. During the last night out, all hell breaks loose as people at the club turn into zombies, attack, and infect other club-goers. Kemp and Jesse help each other escape to Jesse's parents cabin.
During the journey to the cabin, the two learn more about each other. Kemp's attitude towards Jesse in Part 1 was terrible and I side-eyed him for a good portion. He was attracted to Jesse but would never give in because he did not want his reputation to suffer. His co-workers referred to Jesse as SB (slut bitch) and would often joke about who he went home with. Kemp judged Jesse and treated him as though he were dirty. I could really feel Jesse's pain during the first part.
Once they reach the cabin, Kemp leaves to go find his sister and is gone for a year. During that year, many things happen to both men, but we only get to see the aftermath. I think that was actually a wise decision. It would have been a tremendously long book with many other characters introduced. I did feel like at the end there were still things that were left hanging. Will the virus ever have a cure? What about Violet and Jesse's parents? Maybe that is the beauty of the book though. If something like this ever did happen, there would be so many unknowns and people would just have to live in the moment. Perhaps it would have been too neatly wrapped up if we knew all the answers.
I have to say too, that the sacrifice scene near the end made me cry. It was very well done. Kemp really redeemed himself in my eyes, and I love the way he cared about Jesse and actually saw who he was in the end. Love these two! :)
First of all, I love a good zombie apocalypse story and this book delivered that and then some. I don't know what I was expecting but what I found was an amazingly gripping story about two men's struggle to survive as their world explodes around them. Forced together by chance and trying to come to terms with what is happening around them, Jesse and Kemp find solace, passion, and eventually love in each other- despite their individual losses and traumas. I was absolutely blown away by the way the author gave us just enough world building to set the backdrop, but then focused the majority of the story on the mental and emotional development of the main characters. There were moments that I actually wanted to cry and then the story would shift and I would be smiling and fist pumping! I was totally rooting for Jesse and Kemp the whole way through and my only criticism is that I wanted it to keep going! I'd love, love, love for the author to write a second volume - I really want to know more about this situation and perhaps if either of the men's families survived. This book was so good that, after reading in KU, I went back and purchased a copy as well! I hope it is eventually in paperback too! So good! 5/5* stars!
I loooove apocalyptic/dystopian stories. So this was right up my alley.
The story follows Kemp, who works at club, and Jesse, who is a nurse, and a regular in said club. With all the gruesome and heartbreaking things Jesse sees in his job, he needs some kind of release. And because he’s a very sexual person, he seeks it at the club. Since Kemp began working at the club 6 months ago, Jesse’s been trying to get in his pants. But having heard all about Jesse and his revolving door of hookups, Kemp is too scared about his own reputation to follow his attraction. Then one night at the club all hell breaks loose. Literally. And now both of them are on the run. Together. I loved how little by little the MCs (and the reader) learn what happened and how they now have to work together to survive. I loved both characters. Jesse’s carefree, fun personality. How he is perfectly aware of himself and his body, and how he isn’t above using this to get what he wants. And Kemp is such a sweet guy. This book had the perfect mix of romance, angst and suspense! There were some typos, which was a bit annoying but I hope those got fixed before release day.
Rating: 3/5 🌟 Spice: 2.5/5 🌶️ Characters: Jesse and Kemp
This started out promising but then turned. At the point where Kemp returns after being gone for a year my enjoyment drastically flipped. Honestly, they never should have separated. If Kemp was determined to leave to look for his sister, then he should have taken Jesse with him. I think it would have been so much better following them as they tried to find loved ones while also escaping the zombies, other humans, and even the place Kemp ended up in. The shortness of the book and with most things being told and not shown it was hard to really care about the characters and their relationship. I wish we had seen them at the base together and fighting against the people there and the zombies for their freedom and survival. It's a quick and short read that I think I would have liked a lot more if it had been longer, maybe even turned into a duet or trilogy.
I’ve always enjoyed zombie apocalypse series, and mixed with Ripley’s writing and mm romance, I’m definitely here for it!
It’s exciting, thrilling and exciting to read. Not a boring moment at all, not even in the cabin… I can’t say to much without spoiling, but the author wrote this plot amazingly!
I loooove the characters. Jesse the flirt and Kemp the bartender, sizzling hot chemistry 🔥🔥🔥 It gets hot! And so swoony! They’re just each others person, they just have to get through zombies first… cause this is a zombie story as well! With all the livid images I would want in this kind of story.
The next sentences may contain SPOILERS!!!! The ending fits the story, HEA for the characters… but not an easy fix on the whole zombie apocalypse. And it just fits the plot and the story!
It's been a while since I read or watched anything zombie related, but reading this reminded me how good a zombie book could be.
Jesse, a party boy with hidden depths, and Kemp, a bartender at the club who has resisted giving in to Jesse's charms, get caught up in a stampede, which is the beginning of a zombie nightmare. I loved these two together, they connect well and their chemistry, even in the face of the zombie nightmare, is hot and steamy.
They aren't together and safe for long before they are separated as Kemp searches for his sister.
The story skips a year and they are reunited and we uncover what they've both been through to survive. Life is never going to be the same for them or their friends and danger will always be one zombie away, the ending left me hoping these two survive to live a life together.
This book was not what I expected, I expected zombies and an apocalypse but I didn't expect this to be high steam? There wasn't really any relationship building or getting to know one another, Jesse and Kemp just fell in love with each other while engaging in bedroom activities, if you know what I mean.
I liked the concept of this book, I truly did, I just felt like things did not have a proper ending.. Kemp mentioned getting experimented on but then nothing more came of it, just like we didn't know for sure what happened to Kemp's sister or Jesse's sister. Yes it was assumed but you never really got answers. I just wish there was a bit more romance in the book than what there was.
And the ending left off on a cliffhanger, it definitely felt like a HFN... Rather then having a complete ending. Overall though not bad, it just felt incomplete.
If you'd have asked me a month ago whether I'd ever considered reading a book featuring a zombie apocalypse, I've have laughed. That's video game territory and not really my thing. But then B. Ripley came out with The Cabin and because she's one of the bright new authors whose work I've enjoyed this year, I gave it a go.
I'll give credit where credit is due - I thoroughly enjoyed it. The premise was as solid as anything featuring zombies can be, the characters are engaging, and the romance is sweet with plenty of heat. Despite the whole apocalypse thing, the book is fairly low on the angst-meter, and I had fun reading it.
I've never felt the urge to read or watch anything with zombies (it all looked so predictable) but this book looked really appealing, and I am glad I had the chance to read it. The story was enjoyable all the way through, with lots of action and a great relationship buildup. The separation in the story was a really interesting writing technique. I especially loved Jesse's character - really upfront and honest but extremely caring at the same time. I hope that we will be able to see some of him and Kemp again in the future by other authors who are planned to continue this series. I received a copy of this book for my voluntary review.
It was okay, I couldn't really click with the characters and everything past the moment where he wants to look for his sister is.. Kinda boring?
That feels mean to say but I thought that so much was omitted there but suddenly we 2 more added characters who we don't have backstory for that just seemed to clutter the story.
I think this could've been way better with more pages for backstory, for showing us what happened instead of just a quick skip and there, all is fine now.
I'm on the fence about reading the next book in this semi, not really, connected world of multi author books since those are usually not my biggest fav but who knows.
I wasn’t sure what to expect from a zombie apocalypse book. I am not a huge fan of zombie storylines but I do love a multi author series. Plus, it’s spooky season so why not? The characters of Jesse and Kemp were interesting. I did enjoy the book but I would have liked to learn if Kemp’s sister had survived. The outlook for humanity is bleak but these two have a cabin in the woods and plenty of supplies. It’s a short read and worth picking up if you like zombie horror. Pay attention to the triggers if you have any.
This was a nice little zombie story. I wasn’t sure at first because Jesse was annoying during the first few chapters. He got better and I enjoyed the action and adventure. Kemp was more likeable but both guys would have been better if more vivid character development. There was not much world building and the whole insta love felt underwhelming but still an enjoyable couple of hours read. I will probably check to see if the author has any other books.
WOW........ So excited to read this zombies on yes it's thrilling, scary and dangerous and I was hooked from the start couldn't put it down. Kemp & Jesse love them together on the run after a zombie attack at the club where Kemp works they have to work together to stay alive and make it to the cabin that Jesse family owns Jesse so flirty but so much fun and Kemp he's sweet, patient and caring and together the chemistry between them sizzles its so hot I can't wait for more in series and i recommend it so much had privilege to read an ARC and this is my review. ❤
I love everything zombies and this one didn’t disappoint. Jesse and Kemp never imagined that meeting at the club would change their lives in more than one way.
Even though they were running for their lives, they still found time to fall in love. The end of the world didn’t stop them from finding their HEA.
Humor, heat, flirting, and zombies? It's the perfect combination for Jesse and Kemp's story. The plot is so entertaining and will keep you so entertained. There are moments that you might side eye a character but keep reading. You'll understand soon enough.
this was really good.. im not big on zombies but this one was really good.. it was interesting and action packed.. kept things interesting and zombies are in there... along with other stuff.. it was fun.
Fast-paced, low angst, no drama, and lots of zombies, of course. An apocalypse sure puts things in perspective, which our boys learned real quick. Thankfully, their story has a happy ending.
