Deep in the Amazon rainforest, one man unlocks the ultimate Pandora’s Box.
When Dr. Karl Shepherd discovers a revolutionary drug that can cure his daughter’s rare disease, he unlocks the ultimate version of Pandora’s Box.
Soon, he is hunted through the Amazon rainforest by ruthless mercenaries desperate to steal his secret. His every step is tracked by the brutal Jacques Benoit, a cognitively-enhanced commando. Shepherd’s survival and the antidote for his daughter hinge upon his experience as a former U.S. Ranger.
But, Shepherd doesn’t know that his amazing breakthrough could unleash something far worse. The ability to create super-soldiers – genetically upgraded men and women bred to be the ultimate gladiators – a staggering military advantage capable of rewriting the laws of power and rearranging world order.
Whoever controls Shepherd’s discovery will rule the planet.
Shepherd realizes that he can only be certain of two things. He holds the key to the future of Earth. . . and the chances of saving his daughter are disappearing by the minute.
Dark Cure is an edge-of-the-seat thriller crammed with high-speed action, startling science dilemmas, and a surprise ending you’ll remember long after you’ve read the last page.
Cameron K. Moore loves thrillers, coffee and anything that wears his two energetic young sons out. In between writing thrillers, he has an extensive business background, specializing in risk management. He also has a passion for science that began in his school days and culminated when he gained a Bachelor’s Degree in Science.
He later worked for a major scientific research organization which provided much of the inspiration for his writing.
His debut novel, Dark Cure, won First Place in the Mystery/Thriller category for the Writer’s Digest Self-Published E-book Awards for 2021.
He is a keen traveler and lived with a team of naturalists in the Amazon Rainforest while researching the setting for Dark Cure. He later traveled to the Alaskan Arctic to research part of the setting for Fearless, where he experienced the ‘thrill’ of being stalked by a brown bear (coffee wasn’t the only thing he drank after that experience).
His second novel, Fearless, will be released in 2022. He lives with his wife and two young sons and is currently working on the next novel in his Trident Force series of thrillers.
Generally fast paced. I thought the science was reasonable (compared to most other books where the author does not seem to have a clue). I did get tired of the repetition: 1) Concerning the argument about whether the cure should be destroyed versus letting it get into the wrong hands. 2) About the difficulty of fighting off a bio-mod. Also, some of the characters were a little unbelievable. Still, a fun read all in all.
I had a difficult time getting interested in the story line for some reason but once I did I was totally immersed. A fantastical, gripping story that kept me on the edge of my seat . I loved it.
Dark Cure is the jungle born love child of The Thing and Alien. Except the horrible creature that’s hunting you is human.
Set in a top secret research facility, I though Dark Cure was going to be a familiar story about people who wander off into a dangerous forest in search of some legendary font of magical powers – a tale I frankly thought had been told enough times.
To my pleasant surprise, it’s nothing like that. The Inn, as the research facility is called, has already found and developed the cure in question, a medical marvel that can save millions of lives.
Our protagonist Shepherd, an ex-ranger and not a regular part of the crew at The Inn, finds himself at the research facility in the middle of the South American jungle, hoping the cure can be used to treat is chronically ill daughter, Cassie, who’s left behind at home with her grandparents.
Shepherd receives a call from his parents saying Cassie has been suddenly hospitalized, and just as he fears her conditions is getting worse, a powerful storm cuts him and the rest of the crew of The Inn off from the rest of the world, and things start to unravel.
A dead body is discovered in the jungle not far from the facility, and it’s clear that this wasn’t an accident. Who is responsible? Someone isn’t who they say they are, but who are they and where did they come from? And how they know about the cure?
A thrilling mystery ensues as Shepherd must use his old skills to help the researchers protect the cure, both for his and their sake. But first, he has to figure out who he can trust.
This book was great, well-written and engaging all the way through and much more thrilling than I was expecting. Recommended!
Small group of scientists are in an extremely remote part of the Amazon jungle, working on finding a cure for Alzheimer's from a local plant. Very interesting and exciting. One of the scientists is found shot to death. A rival pharmaceutical company is coming to steal the research and kill the remaining scientists. Overall, I really enjoyed this book. I loved the setting in the jungle but the book could have really used a diagram of the building the scientists were in, because it got very confusing when the action was taking place there. C. 2018
This was an enjoyable first installment. It had a refreshing plot, a well thought out sequence of events and good characters with mixed motivations. I particularly liked the approach of the 'villains' of the story which helped keep things interesting even if only in a subtle way. There is clearly a future potential with the characters and the overarching premise. I will be definitely put Trident Force on my wish list.
Mostly Good Book, LOTS of Action, Some Improbable Heroics
This was a good action book, with some tough-sounding bad guys and timid-to-worthless good guys. But, The Author made the good guys rise to the occasion (despite a lot of griping), and the bad guys written to appear as idiots who don’t know how to follow orders.
I wasn’t sure what to expect when I began this book, but I’ll look forward to reading the next one in the Series, and hoping it’s as eventful.
Dark Cure combines mystery, adventure, action and sci-fi in a great story. Finding a cure for any disease especially one affecting millions of people takes on a success/risk all its own. One guy with a military background seems unlikely to hold off a team of special forces but the location evens the odds. Having been in the Amazon on the Napa Rios it's not a isolated as you might think.
No-frills thriller- recommend for fans of James Rollins
A paint-by-numbers technothriller with an exciting plot and tense pace but not without flaws. Excited to see Moore can do in the future now that he's established his (somewhat flat) characters. Would recommend for fans of Matthew Reilly or James Rollins.
I enjoyed reading this novel, it was intriguing, innovative, & futuristic. Bringing in exoskeleton armor, physically enhanced mercenaries & advanced weaponry not too radical or unrealistic was a great part of the storyline. Keep up the amazing effort. I anticipate reading the forthcoming continuation sequel novel.
4.5 O this book was good and enjoyable I read this book without knowing anything about it but basically it is about a group scientists in the Amazon and they have found a cure for Alzheimers. and now french biologists and a bio mod are after them and they want the cure for themselves to do bad bad stuff and kill the other scientists.
What's worse than having Alzheimer's?, what it takes to get what you need for the cure. An amazing journey in this book to find out what it takes in this Trident thriller. I loved every page in this high action adventure. I loved it!!!!!
This is an incredible story. Lots of scientific lingo (but explained wonderfully), which is blended in with the exciting storyline. Nothing fantastical. Nothing beyond belief. I was captivated from beginning to end, which left me wanting more.
Wow that packed a punch. The plot to this story was great. Nano tech suits, enhanced soldiers. Who would want more. I look forward to reading more from this author in the future.
A harrowing military sci-fi scientific thriller full of extreme action, wonderful characters & a very scary plot. Well worth reading. The implications of what's possible are mind numbing.
A good read, with an action packed and fast paced story. Yes, I enjoyed it, but let's be honest. It is a book with a score at most around 3.8. The 4.37 score seems so high to my eyes.
I won't say anything regarding the story, except that it was good.
This book was interesting but there was too much fighting in it. This usually happens when the book is written by a man. There are other ways to write about action than killing.
