Kate’s fine. Just fine.

Sure, her ex-fiancé is marrying Kate’s little sister. Sure, her friends and family don’t think that plot twist is weird. And sure, her pink bridesmaid’s dress is a fashion crime.

But it’s fine. Just fine.

Until Kate comes face to face with Piper. They’ve known each other their whole lives, but Piper’s gone from awkward teen to walking temptation. And she’s not shy about showing Kate exactly how grown up she is.

Kate’s ready and Piper is willing, but it’s impossible to find time alone with alpacas and bridezilla on the loose. If they can just get the happy couple down the aisle, then Kate can reach her true destination: one night in Piper’s bed.

Destination Bedding is a 40k contemporary FF romance novella. It features a burned-out bridesmaid, a wedding weekend in the mountains, and a little sister’s best friend who plays by her own rules.

This novella was a bittersweet experience, in a good way. It’s funny and hot but there’s also a lot of pain and anger I didn’t expect. I went in thinking light and was surprised when it wasn’t.

Imagine being a bridesmaid at your sister’s wedding to your ex-boyfriend. Imagine one of the other bridesmaids is your sister’s childhood friend who, a few months ago, at the engagement party, made you realize that your sexuality wasn’t as straightforward as you thought. That’s the situation Kate is in at the beginning of Destination Bedding, a standalone book in the shared Summit Springs universe.

This was my first contemporary romance by Temple, but I’d already enjoyed her Alli Temple books ( Uncharted and Unbroken, with a third one, Unleashed, coming this spring) and knew I could trust her to write interesting characters. She fits an impressive amount of feelings and character growth in a rather short story, even if the ending is slightly rushed and I could have used a more extensive description of the setting, since I haven’t read any other book in this universe. That said, the writing is as effective as usual, and the story is a heady mix of smartass banter, blunt heartache, tantalizing slow burn, and complicated but loving family relationships. And let’s not forget the rogue alpacas!

I received a copy from the author and I am voluntarily leaving a review.

I really enjoyed this book about Kate at her sisters wedding. Her sister is marrying her ex-fiancé and Kate is one of the bridesmaids. Another bridesmaid is Piper, who is Kates sisters friend, who she is attracted to. This book explores a lot of Kates feelings about her sister, family and ex-fiancé, as we as a romance with Piper. Well written, with an engaging plot and happy ending, well worth a read.

I had mixed feelings about this one! Good writing, I connected with the protagonist, definitely some good scenes and sections. The premise was intriguing and there was some definite potential for the author to take this novel in a lot of fun/emotional directions. I didn’t really like the overall experience though and I was disappointed in where the story chose to go.

Spoilers below..

This novel had me in the first half. Awesome conflict (protagonist’s sister is marrying her ex-fiancée two years after the breakup, and no one told her anything about them being together until she coincidentally stumbled into their engagement party a year after the breakup? Oh my! AND the whole family has been somewhat nasty to her, with the sister never so much as speaking to her in the past two years, let alone explaining or apologizing??) that immediately had a lot of potential. Then you add in a sexy secret hookup potential with a bridesmaid, and complicate things by making them childhood friends, with a secret hookup that went bad a year before, AND the protagonist is experiencing a gay awakening they didn’t expect? So much potential.

The first half also really got me behind the protagonist and angry at the sister and the family. 100% supportive, lots of slowly building emotions; I wanted to see a great apology or some kind of blowup or revenge or twist.

But then, in the second half the author decided that the moral of the story is that the protagonist should take responsibility for “choosing to be happy” despite what I consider to be very reasonable causes for her to be upset and rise above everything and be the bigger person, I suppose. Just get over it. ALSO, SHE needs to apologize because being upset at the situation is apparently very hard on everyone else, especially her sister. Why can’t she just… not be upset? It really pushed the idea that she was responsible for her own unhappiness, that her reasonable feelings were a burden to everyone else, and I just didn’t vibe with that; why is she required to do the emotional labor, swallow her feelings, and make nice so that everyone else isn’t inconvenienced? So, all of those building emotions and tension ultimately never went anywhere except for a very underwhelming MUTUAL apology (protagonist had to actually go first) where nothing was really addressed or resolved. They made plans to move on and rebuild their relationship, off-page, but nothing about it felt satisfying. In the epilogue, the love interest talked about how her sister has forgiven HER (for having realistic and valid feelings about the situation?) while having zero discussion about how she feels about things on her end.

SO….. the thing is that I recognize that this IS realistically some very good advice and a solid moral for the real world. Sometimes people suck and you need to deal with that and take responsibility for your own happiness. Sometimes you don’t get an apology or a resolution. What this wasn’t, however, was the entertaining or satisfying story that I wanted to read. It was just underwhelming in the second half if I'm being generous, and infuriatingly annoying if I'm being mean.

All grown up

Kate is still coming to terms with her ex marring her sister. Piper is a great distraction and a buffer between her & her family. There are a few twists to the story before Piper & Kate can start over and really try having a relationship.

This is another book set in the Summitt Springs world, yet it can be read as a stand-alone.

I hadn't read anything by this author before, but she definitely wowed me.

There's a lot going on, old lovers, sibling drama, marriage hijinks, coming out & a delicious slow burn that drags you in from the first few pages.

Kate & Piper dance 💃around from the onset, but man, their chemistry is off the charts. This was a hot ♨️ read.

I can't wait to read another story from this author!

I have to say I was a little surprised by this book. The cover had me all geared up for it to be a little Harlequin romancy and full of fluff. However, it wasn’t. Temple delighted me in the most pleasant ways with her storytelling. Destination Bedding has a real depth to it that is captivating. Temple does a fine job with the characters too. The development is strong and readers quickly connect to them. I was especially drawn to Kate. Her journey is a bit complicated and it tugs on one’s heart. Since it is told from her perspective, readers are easily pulled into her world; they emphasize with her strange predicament and really feel for her. Readers want Kate to get her HEA; she deserves it after the heartache and disappointment she’s endured.

Piper, the girl Kate develops a crush for, is adorable. They had “a thing” a year earlier, so one might even call this a second chance romance. Their spark from that first brief fling never burned out, so when they are put together as bridesmaids, things quickly heat up. I appreciate how Temple keeps the feelings real and honest. She doesn’t water them down or rush them. It’s a smart way to script Kate and Piper’s romance; it forces both of these women to grow and change in organic ways. Plus, the storytelling benefits from it as it comes off genuinely believable and heartwarming, a must for and good romance.

Final remarks…

This is a quick, easy read. The writing is solid. The dialogue is effective. The characters are charming. Overall, this is a very entertaining read. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Destination Bedding to anyone who loves fresh, witty contemporary romances.

Strengths…

Engaging characters
Entertaining plot
Inviting storytelling
Quick, fun and easy read

I enjoyed this one, but I was annoyed a lot of the time. The family entitlement and dismissal of Kate's feelings was infuriating. It's a realistic portrait of some families though, and good gawd that got under my skin. And the whole marrying the ex bit, yikes! I was already reticent when I thought it was a female ex. I mean, the LGBT dating pool isn't that big so you gotta overlook some shit, but with a fella? That's not a pool you should be dipping your toes if your sister were there before. At least not so soon, especially with how things ended!

I'm the kind of person who'd suggest Reddit's most common advice, run! G no contact, never talk again. Good riddance! But since that didn't happen I just wish all the best for Kate and Piper.

Kate is returning home after being away for several years, after her fiancé Jonathan dumped her, and then got engaged to her younger sister Claire.
Claire’s best friend since childhood is Piper, who since she realised she liked girls, has had a secret crush on Kate.
And then with the shock of her sister’s engagement to her ex, Kate has a night of passion with Piper that she half regrets, but this is a catalyst for her to think deeply about her sexuality.
This is a Summit Springs book, but really apart from the fact that it is set in Summit Springs, it really has no other connection to the town or the series. It could be any other town in any skiing area in the US.
Kate’s mother is a manipulative b****, and I don’t understand why Kate doesn’t set boundaries for her. Also from what I can see, Claire, Kate’s sister may end up that way in the future too. I do realise that we are seeing this only from Kate’s prejudiced and angry perspective, and so this colours everything in the story. The whole story is a rollercoaster of emotions, especially anger, frustration, and some shame. But also comfort, in the form of Piper, Kate’s safe space, the person who calms and grounds her.
This is well written, but it doesn’t have the cozy warmth of some of the other books in the series, which for me is a pity.

I liked this funny and hilarious romance novel. It was a bit of lighthearted reading and I liked the fact that there was a wedding involved and all the funny things that go with it. I really enjoyed reading this novel.

I liked the location of the novel, and travelling to America via this novel, I liked the plot of the novel and the main characters. I also liked the author’s writing style and character development.

It’s the first novel which I’ve read by the author but I’m hoping to read more in the future.

I’m giving this novel 4 stars as I liked it and I’m sure that other readers will like it too.

This was a great book. The humour had me laughing out loud and the characters were believable and endearing. There was a life lesson running through the book about letting go and moving on. The story was original and fresh and the angst wasn’t a simple misunderstanding. It was great to see a curvier main character for a change too .

This was my first Summit Springs book but it works well as a stand alone. The whole time I was reading I kept thinking that Kate needed therapy so it was a celebratory plot point for me when it happened. I was rooting for her and Piper the whole time but sometimes I just wanted to wring Kate's neck because she was purposefully sabotaging herself in her relationship with her family. I'm glad she ended up in Aunt Lois' room because she needed a true heart to heart and to find out she isn't the only non straight person in her family. I received an advance review copy for free, and am leaving this review voluntarily. I would most likely enjoy the rest of the books in this series based on this book.

I really enjoyed this book. It was well written, the characters were interesting, and there was plenty of chemistry between the leads. There was a good bit of angst that made for an emotional storyline. Overall it packed quite a punch for a novella.

No one asked Kate how she felt attending her sister's wedding, the wedding she thought she would have with her ex marrying her sister Claire. Wow, there is anger, rightfully so, pain, trying to move forward and oh yes, maybe falling in love. With Piper, a woman, and Claire's bf. Life and family is complicated. Great story.

3 stars. This was a lot heavier than I was expecting. Not a bad thing but I also wasn’t that invested unfortunately. While Kate had every right to be upset and angry I just didn’t care for her character. She lashed out at Piper and she was just so hard to root for. I did like the writing style though and it was a quick read. I’ll probably try something else by this author but this one just wasn’t for me.

Let me say I don't like this novel.
Was it well written? Yes.
Does it have lots of angst? Absolutely over the top yes (If you like that kind of thing... I don't)
Does it do anything different from the generic romance novel building blocks of lack of communication or procrastination? Nope it sticks to those generic tropes 100% of the way through.

Still it's not a *bad* novel if you like these things. In fact I would say it's a 4 out of 5 if you do! For me though I spent 70% of the book pissed at the way things were being handled. If this was a YA book it would make a lot more sense but adults going through a wedding?

Ok so BIG spoiler time..

This story is both adorably cute and heartbreaking at the same time. I'm a sucker for the "best friend's sibling", "secret crush", "2nd chance", and the "friends-to-lovers" tropes, and this story found a way to blend them together well.

The blurb lets us know up front that Katie's family is actively ignoring the obvious, so watching her navigate her sister's wedding was the heartbreaking part. I felt for her situation, was shocked at everyone's gall as they took Katie participation in the wedding for granted, and saddened by her family's cluelessness (at best) or them choosing one sister over the other (at worst). I wouldn't have blamed her for giving the whole event a miss, but she loved her sister enough to try, and I was proud of her.

Her reconnection with Piper was the adorable part. It took what could have been a heavy story and turned it into something hopeful and uplifting. Piper saw Katie and her struggles when no one else did. Piper gives Katie room to breath, to get out of her own head enough to have a little fun and finally face her pain. We only have Katie's POV, but Piper's feelings were clear and long standing. A couple understandable missteps prove Katie still has some healing to do, but they were really cute together.

I liked the reset at the end. Love usually conquers all in romance, but I appreciated the more realistic approach, reinforcing how important it is to deal with the past to avoid corrupting the present or future. And for the first time, Katie and Piper's relationship gets to be about just them, about what they want and how they feel, instead of a reaction to something else. Technically, their story may be a HFN, but their romantic future is a forgone conclusion so it feels like an HEA.

Like someone else said the middle is the most enjoyable part of this book and I wish I could give this book a better review but I really resent when I feel that a book is trying to guide me into a particular opinion, it feels preachy, specially when it's not well done.

The end is what annoyed me and I just couldn't enjoy it anymore, Kate is treated like shit by her family (including Claire) from beginning to end with the exception of Lois .

I don't believe everyone should be forgiven just because they are family, specially when they don't ask for it or do anything to deserve it and I don't appreciate how that seems to be the message here, you either forgive or you're going to be bitter and angry forever, and Claire doesn't ask for it and does not do anything to deserve it and even when they finally talk, she is basically demanding for Kate toa ct like a sister again, Kate needs to accommodate her sisters feelings to the end, everyone keeps telling her she needs to not be angry, not cause a scene, to forgive her sister, to look happy , to enjoy herself, as if people could control how they feel specially in a situation where no one acknowledges they are even hurting to begin with or cares about them, I feel like this book needed to be longer to make this work.

Katie is attending her sister’s wedding to the man who Katie was supposed to marry until he broke up with her two years before. Katie has unresolved feelings about her sister, the rest of her family and the male fiancé. She also has a past fling with one of her sister’s best friends, Piper, who she’s known since they were kids and who is also a bridesmaid during this destination wedding. As she and Piper begin to spend time together, Katie realizes she still has feelings for Piper and they begin to flirt, planning to find some time to be alone. A number of family-related incidents pop up to prevent them from sealing the deal. But they eventually do until Katie overhears her sister talking to Piper about something that is very upsetting.

This novella is unusual in that the beginning and ending are the weakest parts. The middle of the book is the most engaging as Katie begins to wrestle with her feelings for Piper and her own bisexuality. There’s also a lot of family drama for her to contend with as well as her own lingering anger. The end is weak because we hear about the resolutions but don’t really see much of them.

3.5 stars for the start of something nice.

This friends to lovers story follows two women, Kate and Piper as they discover the spark that has been sizzling under the surface for years. While Piper has always known her feelings for Kate, Kate is only just realizing she can have feelings for women.

While there are so many amazing things about his book, there were a few things that had me a bit frustrated as a reader. This FF story has all the pieces to make this great, but falls just a bit short as we never really get to explore what an FF relationship means for Kate and her life. Additionally, while I really enjoyed the development of Kate's character, I was sad when Piper was willing to accept a simple hookup while under the assumption that Kate was not interested in a romantic relationship with women.

The foundation is there, but the book was over before we really got to see the true outcome of this FF relationship with so much potential.

This is a gem of a book. Kate and Jono were together all through school. Then he ups and tells her it will not work. Kate drops out of college and takes off for mortuary school. Meanwhile, her sister Claire and Jono hook up and are going to get married. The book mostly takes place at the weekend wedding location. Kate has a lot of anger and resentment at Claire and Jono. But Claire's friend Piper tries to get everything to go smoothly. Piper and Kate are attracted to each other. A comedy of errors occur while trying to hook up. There are a lot of characters in this book. And they are all needed in this story. Allison has a great touch with this book. I don't think everyone can write comedy. But she can. There is some heartbreak. Some steamy scenes. Ups and downs. But overall, I found it to be a very enjoyable book. And I will put this in my reread pile. Highly recommend.

This was an ok read for me. I had a hard to liking Kate. I get way she was acting the way she was and I think it had a powerful message, but it didn't necessarily endear me to her as a character. It probably doesn't help that I could easily see myself acting exactly like what Kate did. I, also, wish that we got more from Piper and Kate's reunion at the end of the book. Given that it had been a year and they didn't end on positive terms, it would have been nice to see how they navigate a successful relationship. This is one of those books that ends right after the "I love you" and that typically leaves me wanting more, in a negative way.

All in all, a solidly written story but just wasn't quiet right for me at this time.

Things to like and things not to like…

I largely enjoyed this tale of Kate coming to come to terms with her sister marrying her ex, but it had some ‘ick’ factors for me (probably based on my personal experience). I wanted there to be a true reckoning between Kate and her sister Claire and/or between her and Jono, but that never came. However, the relationship between Kate and Claire’s old friend, Piper was nice, and suitably spicy. I picked this up when it was free though, so I’m not complaining!

So, little sister is marrying Kate's ex while she's discovering that her sister's friend is very attractive. Piper is determined to make things go smoothly but is not ignoring the attraction she feels towards Kate. While there are some angsty moments, the humor and heat balances everything out so well. This is a wonderful story with amazing characters, even when you don't like the character very much.

Kate’s little sister is getting married and that is causing some upset for her. Piper is a friend of her Kate’s sister who has come for the wedding. Kate quickly realizes Piper is all grown up. While Kate deals with some many conflicting emotions. Piper tries to help Kate get through the wedding. I like the relationship they are starting to develop. This is a great story of changing feelings. #CMCon24

Kate and Piper's romance falls within the new-look at an old-acquaintance genre with a sister's wedding to an ex- thrown in for good measure. Although much of the story arc focuses on Kate's lingering anger and her complicated relationship with her family there are many amusing moments and a feisty aunt to keep things interesting. This is an enjoyable read with a satisfying conclusion.

Interesting family dynamics

I really enjoyed the central romance but the family dynamics were a bit rough. I’ve definitely read a lot of dating a siblings ex romances so it was interesting to be on the side of the ex. Everybody seemed a little bit in the wrong but it was easier to sympathize with Kate being in her POV.

Forgiving the Bride and Groom

Kate is fine and it’s great that her little sister is getting married but did she have to marry her ex? When she sees Piper, her sister’s best friend she’s thrown back to that night of kissing and groping. Will they make it thru the wedding without a blowout. A marvelous series.

A novella that kept me interested throughout. It’s not a laugh a minute or even a particularly happy book but it does have a happy ending and the road to the happy ending is worth while.
