This term I was placed in the unique position of teaching a class called "The Psychology of Women" and my total enrollment were MEN. All I can say is that 90 percent of the class loved this book. It is an easy read and it dispels many of the myths and misconceptions that are held by men. To have the students thank me for choosing this book speaks volumes.
Although this textbook covers a wide variety of topics and in great detail, I didn't like the frame in which it was written. It is very obviously a feminist text and because of that it was lacking in some areas (i.e. in areas that weren't pro-woman) and at times it was somewhat obnoxious. Some of the views it presented were slightly radical and for a textbook I don't think that is appropriate.
I just finished the 4th edition for my Psychology of Women course and learned a lot and even had my own views challenged. It was also my first textbook that was so current that it included studies dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic and the effects on women.
A totally fine book, would like to see it updated to include other genders outside of the binary. Trans people are mentioned very briefly, so there's room to expand.
