Sins and Scoundrels #6

Viscount of Villainy

Rate this book
A brutal phaeton accident left Viscount Torrington’s memory in tatters and his body broken. But certain parts of his old life prove easily relearned. Drinking, gambling, and wenching? Check. Torrie is on a one-man mission toward complete debauchery. Anything to distract himself from the misery of the night he lost everything. Until an accidental kidnapping leads him to the woman he’ll never forget.

Five. The number of disastrous Seasons Miss Elizabeth Brooke suffered before resigning herself to her fate as a governess. A lady without a dowry can only exist on the benevolence of her relatives for so long before she admits defeat. Zero. The amount of scandals she is permitted to cause before she loses her position. Which is why being unintentionally spirited away by a handsome, dissolute lord spells complete and utter ruin.

Torrie has no place in his life for a wife, particularly not one as icy and prim as Miss Brooke. But even he can acknowledge that compromising a governess, albeit by mistake, necessitates getting caught in the parson’s mousetrap. He’ll marry Miss Brooke and send her to the country so he can continue with his life, uninterrupted. But there’s a problem with Torrie’s plan. He neglected to take into account just how tempting his new wife would be. And now, he’s about to lose something far more precious than his memory. His heart.

Heat level: Scorching hot! Don't say you weren't warned.

Such a great romance

I was definitely afraid to read this. Torrie was a manho and I was so scared that he would not be faithful. But from the moment he kidnapped the wrong woman his life changed forever! And I loved it. He was do in love with Bess from the very start. I loved him and her together! His mom pissed me off so much. She did not trap him. His married mistress was a ho and she set up the scenario of the fake kidnapping and sexual experience in a carriage. I was so glad he kidnapped the wrong, oops I meant right women. I loved that he was faithful to her after he had kidnapped her and that he loved and lusted after her, and that he ditched the brazen hussy that he was seeing. she tried to ruin their relationship but he was honest and everything turned out amazingly. His mother was awful but she came close to being okay towards the end. Another amazing awful and it was safe which I am so happy for. Earlier novels had cheater heroes but thank goodness most of the series has been better. Love this author. I do skim the sex scenes because they are a little too much for a 64 year old female with intimacy issues. lol. Just kidding!! Awesome hero no loved loved loved it! 💕

First and foremost I not only did laugh and fall in love with these two characters from the beginning but I cried along the way.

She thought she was destined for being a governess for the rest of her life after being by he humiliated her so cruelly she thought to never ever face him again but then one night he pops back into her life again and he is a totally different person, he is kind, loyal and honest. And most of all he wants her something she never thought possible.

He lost his memories during a terrible incident and he didn't even remember his family. But mostly what he wants is people to stop wanting the person he was before the accident, he wants them to accept the new person he is. So when he meets this governess who has no clue who he is or about his accident and treats him no differently, he wants her for his own.

After being forced into a marriage of convenience not only do they start seeing that they were destined to meet again but with she helps him heal and he helps her gain her confidence back.

This book was worth the wait and I honestly can say I will be rereading it again.

I can't wait to see what Scarlett has in store next.

I received this as a gift from the author in exchange for a voluntary review and this purely based off of my own experience and that of no one else.

Scarlett Scott is one of my all time favorite authors. I know, I know. You hear that a lot from me but having read hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of different authors and thousands and thousands of books I only have 25 authors I call my "favorite".

This is my 64th book by her. I know, a lot, right! She is truly a top all time favorite of mine. I don’t know what it is about her books but I just love everything she writes. I love her characters, stories and her wonderful writing. And she can damn sure write a good sex scene with such wonderful detail. It is very yummy the way she writes them. I just immerse myself into her stories. I have loved this series over the year so very excited for this read.

I have to say since I read book 5 was 2.5 years ago and over 700 books ago, I remembered nothing about Torrie, Monty or Hattie even though in my notes for Book 5 I have LOVED. Which is my indication it was a favorite and a damn good read. But truthfully, it didn't matter that I didn't remember. This book was so damn good. I found myself smiling and crying. I loved Torrie and Elizabeth. I loved their personalities. I loved their story. Just a great overall DAMN good read. :) Definitely going in the August favorites list.

Viscount Torrington's body has been wrecked in an accident. Miss Elizabeth Brooke has had five seasons, and has no dowry either.
I loved reading this story, and made me laugh too. This was a longish read, but well worth it.
As the author says, "scorching hot". 5☆

The sixth book in the series & it’s been a while in coming but was well worth the wait. The characters are wonderful, the story flows effortlessly, the chemistry is electric & it’s one beautiful love story. I loved both Torrie & Elizabeth, he was like a chocolate eclair hard on the outside with a soft gooey centre & Elizabeth was lacking in self confidence – I loved how she grew throughout the book. I adored their journey to a HEA, which took me on a gamut of emotions from laughing to crying. Chapeau to the author she nailed it
My review is for a special copy I voluntarily read

As always I absolutely loved this book and was very happy to read it!
This is Book 6 in the Sins and Scoundrels series.
Viscount Torrington was in a horrible crash that left him with amnesia.
The way he ends up marrying Miss. Elizabeth Brooke was priceless, but unnerving for a rake!!
After 5 failed seasons Elizabeth finds herself in a marriage of convenience due to potential ruin and gossip. As this well written book goes on I just really loved it. I loved reading how Torrie’s memory comes back and how they fall in love. I enjoyed the steamy love scenes which were very steamy!
I also loved the ballroom dancing and how romantic they are.
I loved and enjoyed this book, the secondary characters ❤️ and the Epilogue was a very happy and beautiful ending! I just simply Love everything about the way Scarlett Scott writes her books ❤️
This entire series is a definite must read!

3 stars I think SS ran out of ideas. Very steamy but past the halfway mark and there was still no story, no tension, no conflict. Then there was the OW woman drama for about thirty seconds, then it was over.

* I read an arc of this book.*

The way this story started was great. The Viscount agreed with her mistress to come to her house and kidnap her and debauch her in the carriage so that was what he set out to do except he didn't kidnap the woman he was supposed to, he kidnap the Governess. Loved the premise, it's very different from what i'm used to reading in historical romance.
I must admit that i was a bit scared of the amnesia thing and how it would play out in the story and weirdly enough that wasn't what "put me off". What did it was Besie. I loved her since the beginning but when sh** hit the fan, she didn't stop to hear Torrie out. Instead she decided that despite everything, she had to believe what she believed she saw and to the devil with her husband.
Torrie was not nothing short of amazing throughout the story. He built her confidence up, he cared for her like no one else in her life did and he loved her like no else else did before him. He was faithful to her and never did he did something to make her think otherwise so i was not happy with her reaction to what happened.
Even after that particular incident Torrie maintained firm in his beliefs and in the fact that he loved his wife, he understood why she believed what she saw and he grovelled to her by sending food to feed her cat and well as leaving little gifts for her. I can't help but feel like he shouldn't have grovelled so much because he wasn't really at fault for what happened.
I loved the two of them together and it's always a good time reading one of Scarlett's books.

Viscount of Villainy is the first book that I have Scarlett Scott. I have a soft spot for historical Regency romances, and this book is in my top 5 in the Regency romance trope. I loved the storyline and the characters. The story was original and beautifully written. She went into the right amount of detail about the characters and the world she created. I couldn't put this book down until the end. I needed to know what happened to both characters in the story. I was heartbroken for both of the character's circumstances; my heart was excited, happy, and full of anticipation for what was coming. This book has the angst, push and pull, and a bunch of heart-pounding drama.

Elizabeth was a diamond in the rough. She was strong and determined. My heart hurt for her and the life that she was living. Torrie was a rake of the town. It was sad what he was going through in this book. He had an accident that took his memory. I loved their banter and chemistry throughout this book. It had me laughing at some parts and fanning my face with all the delicious heat. I loved Torrie's dedication to his family and Elizabeth.

I love authors like Beverly Kendall, and Scarlett Scott reminds me of her with her writing style and the originality of the stories she writes.- Brooke

Wow! What an amazing story, sure to illicit the readers emotions on so many levels! I shared in them all, from heart break to sheer bliss!! Scarlett Scott’s writing is pure genius! Our heroine, Elizabeth (Bess) is a shy and insecure spinster, unseen and overlooked most of her life until one fateful night she is suddenly thrust into the world of the nobility and a marriage of convenience. We are there at the inception of her relationship with Torrie, and privy to their Incredible dialogue and banter. As their fledgling romance ignites, we develop a bond with these two that continues to grow throughout the story. We feel for Bess as everything and everyone she has ever cared about has been ripped away from her. Can she trust this gorgeous and caring man, that she has loved from afar for years? Torrie seemingly desires to offer her a future and a hope, that she knows is just too good to last! Get ready for an amazing ride!

A whirlwind of emotions, fraught with tension and blissful affection. Torrie and Bess are absolute perfection. A dowdy wallflower who has spent her life living on others mercy, donned in the hand me downs of her sponsor and with little self esteem to her name is mistakenly kidnapped by the beautiful roguish rake she’s secretly loved. His mistake will become his greatest desire and saving grace. Their story is filled with bittersweet pining, the anguish of uncertainty and an avalanche of tender emotion. Torrie’s struggle with his memory hit me with surprising intensity, bringing me to tears over and over. The return of Monty’s delightful curses brings a respite of levity that I never knew I needed. This story will take you through all the emotions and yet leave you contentedly satisfied.

Oh my, I don't want to write this review, as it means Torrington's story is over, like Bess, I've loved Torrie for years, no one deserved a happily ever after, more than Torrie and Bess, and what a wonderful adventure it was ,Bess's had no one to love or protect her, and she's not convinced that Torrington ever will, Torrie is lost, he has made his peace with his amnesia, but something is missing, maybe its Bess,( sigh) well, this book is wonderful , so go on grab your copy, and get busy reading!

Oh, I loved every word, every minute reading Viscount if Villainy. Elizabeth (Bess) almost ties with Hattie and Leonora as my favorite heroine(s) of this series.

When a couple had a history together as children or young adults, that gives their love story more gravitas for me. Poor young Bess had lost all hope of ever attracting the handsome young lord Torrington. I was so upset at how this orphaned girl from the country and five failed seasons, was so Ill-treated by relatives, who were entrusted to guide and secure her future. I so wanted retribution to be rained down in Bess’ greedy guardians and widowed aunt.

Torrie was an entirely different man than the one prior to his accident. I was concerned that he was a manho before and after but the man who lost his memory was so sweet, loving, and protective of Bess when she was turned out with no place to turn. Torrie really redeemed himself and Bess found a home if get own at last. I loved it.

As much as I looked firearms to Torrie’s book, I’m heartbroken that this novel is the end of this exquisite series.

I reckon Scarlett Scott's historicals are usually very hot, but I have yet to find one that I vibe with. This book was sweet and the hero definitely surprised me with his tenderness, but all in all, I wanted more character and relationship development.

The Viscount of Villainy is the 6th book in Scarlett Scott’s Sins and Scoundrels series and is the much anticipated story of Viscount Torrington – the brother of Lady Harriet from The Duke of Debauchery. ‘Torrie’ suffered a terrible accident and had lost his memories, unable to remember his family and friends and living in a sort of limbo. He really captured the imagination and I was so excited to read his story.
It is 2 years later and Torrie is still somewhat adrift caught in a no mans land where he cannot remember the man he was and is trying to forge a new life as the man he has become but is struggling with the expectations of his nearest and dearest. Finding no real purpose in his life he turns to drinking, gambling and living the life of a reckless rake. One of these scandalous escapades leads to the accidental kidnapping of his mistress’s governess. Caught in a scandal of his own making Torrie determines to do the right thing by Miss Brooke – he will marry her and leave her at his country estate, leaving him free to carry on with his life. But he didn’t factor in his unexpected fascination with his prim and proper wife.
Miss Elizabeth Brooke spent years as a wallflower longing for the notice of the dashing Lord Torrington but after a humiliating incident in which she was mocked cruelly by him and his friends she resigned herself to a life as a governess. Now, years later she is shocked to discover the dissolute lord who accidentally abducts her, miring her in scandal and leading to her dismissal is none other than the man she loved from afar. Reluctant to trust him at first, she slowly comes to realise that there is much more to her husband than meets the eye.
Determined to make the best of their marriage of convenience both Torrie and Elizabeth discover a mutual passion and form a tentative bond but can past hurts and vengeful mistresses be overcome to lead to a love that lasts forever?
I loved Torrie. You really feel for him as he struggles to fill the void that his loss of memory has created. It’s particularly heartbreaking that he can no longer find the depth of feeling he had for his family and it is not something that he can conjure up. I think Scarlett manages to convey this confusion and his feeling of helplessness so eloquently. When he meets Elizabeth, he thinks that she is the first person that didn’t know the old Torrie and so he can be free with her without the burden of expectation. She allows him to just be himself and discover the kind and honourable man that he is.
Elizabeth is a very sweet heroine. She is resilient, courageous and compassionate. She was put upon and treated as a poor relation all her life after the death of her parents when she was a child. Always having to make do with cast offs, she has very low self-esteem and had a difficult time accepting that a man such as Torrie could possibly love her. It was wonderful to see her confidence grow.
I was looking forward to Torrie’s story and it certainly did not disappoint. Torrie and Elizabeth have such depth and are so well matched. Both are smart, witty and have an blazing chemistry. After going through so many trials their HEA is very well deserved.
As ever Scarlett has written a warm, witty and well flowing story packed full of humour, romance and emotion. As an added bonus we get to meet Hattie and Monty again which is an absolute delight. The ending was heartwarming and I finished the book with a big smile on my face. I received an advanced review copy, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Yes and no. I like this author and her writing style, sometimes she has some heroes I love, sometimes she has some bad ones I can’t stand and this one has a hero I didn’t dislike totally but I didn’t love also. He had a bad accident and lost all his memories and changed from irresponsible to responsible but he’s always a manwhore. So he can’t remember the heroine at all. The heroine is a plain, poor, plump woman who’s now a governess at his mistress house. His married mistress. His nasty but beautiful mistress. He compromised her accidentally and proposes . Even if she’s plump and plain he’s very attracted to her and I liked that he never thought her plain and he really thought she was beautiful. They go on well, he’s quite charming and not a bad guy either, he was a playboy before but now he’s reformed and he falls in love with her. There is also a bit of angst because the heroine as a debutant was infatuated with him and heard him talking about her and calling her a plump partridge, which thing conditioned her self perception and left her scarred. The hero apologizes but admits he doesn’t remember and feels very bad because he thinks she’s beautiful and because he’s not that man anymore. Then ex mistress comes back and makes mischief, the heroine opens the door of the hero’s study and there’s the mistress on her knees and the hands on his pants. The heroine leaves him and refuses to talk to him for weeks, but eventually the hero’s memory comes back and he asks her to talk. Apparently it wasn’t him that called her a plump partridge but one of his friends and he was asking him to be introduced to her, because even then he felt attracted to her, even if he didn’t want to get married yet and kept manwhoring for years. Yuck. I wished he stayed faithful but I know I’m being unreasonable. He’s very glad because he thinks they were destined since he was attracted to her when he first saw her. But. There’s a but. Sadly his ex mistress came to tell him bad news, then tried to seduce him, and he was just stopping her hands when the heroine caught them together. It seems she’s pregnant with his child. and this is where I dropped one star, because the hero wants to be a father of his illegitimate child and the heroine accepts. I know these things happened in that age but nope, I didn’t like that he was willing to be involved with his ex because of the child and the heroine was oh so sensible. I don’t think so. Thank god in the end it was a false alarm and she wasn’t preggo, she was very late but then her cycle came, maybe it was her first sign of menopause, ha! Anyway it was a steamy reading and the hero was not bad or mean, only a bit of a manwhore. I liked that he never scorned the heroines look, and he liked her very much. I can understand that in that period, no makeup available except for trollops, no pushups and skinny jeans to show a woman’s best features, a woman who was a bit curvy, with an unflattering cap covering her hair, large and long dresses in drab colors, no makeup or anything, well, I think half of us and then some would have gained the title of plain and mousy, so I can believe she hid her graces and he found out she was quite pretty without clothes and cap on. The pregnancy scare and his attitude were not pleasant because I wanted him to send her to hell since she was married and a lady, instead of playing best father of the year, but eventually the child was not there, so I am quite satisfied.

SHE WAS KIDNA

5 STARS for. Book 7 in this wonderful , exciting, and sexy hot ouch, Series: Sins and Scoundrels. This also has a very exciting excellent BlurB. Book 1 had us with a he'll raising rake of a Duke of Depravity; who had some real life situations happen to him. The Duke, better known to his best friend Viscount Torrington as Monty,. & the Viscount was called Torrie by all his family & very close friends. Well, Monty & Torrie ended up in a very drunken way & race of phantoms which Torrie's wrecked & hurt his back a bit, but took his. memory. Furthermore, Monty fell head over heels in love with Hattie, the loving little sister of Torries, plus due to her wish he quit abiding alcohol of any kind, anywhere.
Torrie didn't remember who he was but had set about re-establishing his relationships with people like Monty, Hattie, and other people he interacted with in Books 1 - 6. Him not remembering ate at him because some people like his Mother, constantly bemoaned him being gone, like Torrie was dead simply because he couldn't remember the past and it haunted him, along with some physical pain with his back & headaches made him go through women, mistresses , mainly married women of the Ton now. He definitely avoided all ways to be entangled.
It was due to an idiotic idea for a sexual escapade that would include stealth, pretend kidnapping (his mistress, desired this) grabbed in her house & then hauled out to his carriage late at night for some sexual mischief as they traveled around the town. There was obviously a mix up & his mistress wasn't where she was supposed to be, instead her governess was & the candle light was put out as soon as Torrie opened the door, in the dark, with the mouth gag , tied up hands & sack.over her head, Bess was frightened and didn't know what wad happening until she heard Torrie say her employer's name & told her to stop moving that this was what she had planned. In his carriage, he removed the bag already Leary because of the clothing and much more lush filled body could not be the Countess, and stared at Bess. Bess saw Torrie and couldn't believe it because she remembered him from het failed 5 seasons and to make a mix up even more confused,. Bess knew nothing about Torrie's memory loss & it hurt her heart.& crushed her ego when he asked her name.
The story of Torrie & Bess is a love story to be sure, but it's the cautionary tales, & more than 1 of these mysterious tales that even could apply to someone today. I will read this excellent, exciting, mysterious, fast moving highly sexual ( HOT .RATED) love story of two lost people who had to find themselves, to then open up their love they found in each other.
A STANDING OVATION FOR: Scarlett. Scott
SEXUAL CONTENT: WARNING HOT, RED FLAME, RECOMMEND. RECOMMEND

There was so much in this book that should've pissed me off. Overwritten chapters. The author's need every five lines or so to remind us of the overarching trauma of the character in question or the context of the scene as if we were all collectively losing our interest. The word 'cunny' (gag). A rather lacklustre conflict, an (entirely expected) resolution to all of the conflicts. Two dimensional character choices. The fact that one of the underlying conflicts that follows through the ENTIRE BOOK was misheard by the FMC. French. So much unexplained French in the prose.

But. BUT.

I could not stop reading. I will admit, the narrator contributed to about 80% of that. Shane East is fantastic at what he does and I had moments where I just jumped between kicking my feet in delight and swooning. And his female voices weren't ridiculous, which I know is a low bar, but still. Consider this my formal petition to have more men narrate regency romance books please and thank you. The other 20% was taken up by the big 'MY WIFE' energy of the Torrie and the sex scenes which...hoo boy. I've been searching for you guys for years, thank god you finally showed up.

Considering what was happening, I felt Bess forgave Torrie WAY too easily. Also, the conflict that appeared in the third act - I knew how it was going to end and it still felt like such a cop-out to get to a HEA. I KNEW that it would go a certain way and I'm so conflicted about it. Ironically. I think I'm more conflicted about it than the conflict in the book.

Elizabeth is...meh. I felt rather indifferent to her because I didn't particularly connect with her 'abandoned by everyone, oh, I'm so ugly, but this man loves me' spiel. Had there been a bit more character development, a little more light and shade, it would have been stronger. It feels like an early draft version of the character, so to speak. Similarly with Torrie, I just wanted a little more. I did love that he was devoted to her once they were married, that he didn't despise her and then suddenly adore her - that was a nice surprise. And some of the lines were so deeply romantic. That was the ironic thing about this book. So much was so one note and then suddenly, the author would create such a perfectly clever line of prose or a piece of sensual dialogue so good that it would take me by surprise.

The coda was cute. I can't be the only one who was desperate to see more of Torrie just being a Dad, right? I love that he wasn't a brooding mess, but he had lots of love to give.

I might read the first book now. Watch this space.

Starring Miss Elizabeth “Bess” Brooke and Torrie, Viscount Torrington

Tropes: K!dnapping the Wrong Woman, Mistaken Identity, Governess (briefly mentioned), Secret Crush, Unrequited Love, Compromised, Amnesia, Marriage of Convenience

Y’all!!!! After reading the most beautiful story… how am I suppose to function with THE BEST massive book hangover EVER? How?! Continues to ugly cry af!!

This was one of my most anticipated book of 2023 and it was everything I wanted it to be….and MORE!! It feels like I have waited forever for Torrie to have his HEA and Scarlett Scott has given him the perfect heroine in Bess. Oh my heart is so happy for these two. Their love story may have started rocky, but it was THE BEST mistake ever!! These two were always meant to fall in love…. and my heart is filled with so much feels that we were there to watch it unfold!!

Torrie, Torrie, Torrie… since I chanted his name three times does that mean he’ll appear? Excuse me while I check…. Dangit!! Aw man… I absolutely loved him. He such the perfect alpha-roll. He’s so tough on the outside, but he positively melts when he shares a space with Bess. He was so attentive… just so imperfectly perfect in every way (and he may be tied with Monty as my favorite Scarlett Scott Book Boyfriend. Gaaaah never make me choose!!!)

Oh Bess! She was such a real heroine. I was sad that she didn’t have much self-confidence. Here’s an absolutely gorgeous guy (who happens to be her husband) constantly telling her that she’s beautiful… and she kept doubting him. (There is a story behind that). But I’m glad that she finally came into her own towards the end.

I will live in the delicious Viscount of Villainy bubble for a bit before I shift my most anticipated book of 2023 frame of mind over to Her Wicked Rogue…. SQUEEEEEE… Archer Tierney!! Once again hats off to Scarlett Scott. Thank you for sharing your beautiful stories with us. Your words are magic!!

She sounded scandalized. He didn’t give a damn if she was; this was what he had been born for: pleasing this woman. Pleasing his woman. With his head firmly buried between Bess’s thighs, it was as if everything in his life—all the frayed ends and jagged pieces—had somehow formed together. He didn’t feel broken. He didn’t care about the past he couldn’t remember. All he felt was alive.

Well Damn. He was literally drinking from his own personal fountain of youth and felt…rejuvenated. The incredibly handsome, incredibly broken Lord Torrington came away ”whole”. Can you imagine finding peace in the arms of the one you love? My GAWD!

Viscount of Villainy is the perfect ending to a wonderful series. Bess and Torrie are simply perfect together. Both broken in their own way…made whole in their love…**sigh**

Ya’ll…Scarlett Scott is THAT GIRL. For real though. EVERYTHING she writes is captivating. And nasty…woo weee ole girl is nasty…and that's okay… cause we'ze like nasty…the nastier the better. And her characters, she has a unique way of crafting characters that are incredibly alluring, particularly her heroes. Bess and Torrington are no exception.

After a phaeton accident left him broken…body, mind and spirit, Viscount Torrington has flitted from one frivolous encounter to the next. Unfortunately, his plan to live a life of debauchery goes awry when he accidentally kidnaps his mistress’s governess. What’s turned out to be a gross miscalculation on his part, may turn out to be the best decision of his life.

The way Torrie unwittingly loves Bess…it’s magical. He’s protective and charming and loving… everything she needs after having been ignored and used for most of her life. Orphaned at a young age, Bess has bounced from one distant relative to the next. The one bit of luck she's had was being mistaken for someone else. Lord Torrington. Watching them rebuild each other makes my heart shiver and my body quiver.

Scandalously delicious, Viscount of Villainy is an emotional and romantic rollercoaster…and I cannot wait to read it again.

Such a sweet, swoony, and steamy read from Scarlett Scott, this isn't my first book from her and damn, she never disappoints. This is a great marriage of convenience story and both characters are so likable.

The hero....Oh my, I just love him so much. I know this guy is literally a flirt and a certified rake in the first chapter but his character development? Chef's kiss. And damn, he is so fucking attentive to the h, so completely besotted with his wife. A true book husband. Also liked the heroine, she has such a pure soul, so sweet and really kind. However, it just took her quite a long time to be more confident about herself, you see she really has very low self-esteem because of her past seasons, many looked down on her and believed her to be plain looking (which is obviously not true).

The romance as always, delivered! And uhm, Scarlett Scott really writes good spicy scenes. The sex here felt so passionate, it was nice. The chemistry was also off the charts. The conflict was quite predictable and man for a split second there I almost, almost hated the H and his bad decision-making and choices in life that seems to always end up with him suffering BUTTT the groveling here was so good! Even though, I kinda believed he didn't really need to grovel that hard because he literally didn't do anything wrong, the h just assumed (I kinda got annoyed with her here) but welll eventually some plot twist was thrown and comes the HEA.

I loved how these two characters have grown so much together, they appreciated one another and saw each other in a new light, not letting their past prejudices about one another get the best of them. The confession was also so sweetttt (the H especially) I just sighed. I lived that epilogue, but mostly the angel, I mean the cat. Yesss, I love cats in my historical romances. Such a great read from Miss Scott.

Elizabeth Aka Bess has been pushed from pillar to post all her life and treated like little more than a servant. Her family was supposed to protect her not neglect her.
She has been reduced to a governess for Lady Worthington. She is vicious beauty who is unhappy and married with 3 children of her own. You will have to read why this is important!
Viscount Torrington Aka Torrie was playing games with said mistress. This game involved kidnapping and playing a damsel in distress.
Except Bess was in the library and she was kidnapped instead.
This set off a chain of events involving Lady Eugenia Worthington who reacts like a woman scorned and immediately spread lies and gossip about the two.
What little reputation Bess had was completely shred! Torrie comes to her defense and deposits her at Monty and Hattie’s home his sister and brother in law. These two are like oil and water and thru should not mix.
In spite of being displaced and having no where to go Bess does try to fend for herself and is not some tearful woe is me lady.
Bess stands her ground with the man she secretly has admired for years! Does Torrie get his memory back? Can there be a HEA? Bess helped him be a better man! Torrie didn’t like the man before he lost his memory! Can he be better?
Bess is so sure she knows what Torrie thought of her before he lost his memory! What if she’s wrong? But on the way to a HEA there is a woman scorned and she does the unforgivable,
Low self esteem when you have had it for years is self destructive and difficult to overcome! Bess has it in spades.
She has finally got it back and it is snatched away! Just when I started to like Torrie too! Can he fix this? Is it fixable? You will not want to put this down! Stayed up way past my bedtime! Bravo

Tropes: memory loss, marriage of convenience, cinnamon roll MMC

3.25 stars. I have a soft spot for Scarlett Scott, particularly her oldies; think the Winters series, League of Dukes, Notorious Ladies, and her novellas. I have to admit that while I respect her as a writer--she does her research and her style is solid--I haven't run into a book of hers recently that has truly held my attention. Granted, her plots have never been all that twisty (there's a definite formula) but the slight outrageousness of the steam and the cracking chemistry between MC's used to be the main attraction.

I felt that the MFC here was a bit of a wet blanket, and that was what made the storyline drag. For the first half, she ruminates about a dismissive comment MMC made about her years ago, before he was in an accident and incurred memory loss. He apologizes for something he can't even remember, but she doesn't seem to be able to let it go. Then we have to have the weight insecurity issue, which seems to be a hallmark of 25% of HR's anymore. I know this sounds cynical, but can we have a break from the whole "I'm so voluptuous woe is me" heroine? It's getting as tedious as the old-school HR's where the hero's hands could always span the heroine's waist.

Anyway, I kept waiting for MFC to move on and get a backbone. However, everything hinges on a Big Misunderstanding toward the end that made me cringe.

The MMC is a sweetheart who actually might have been a bit too nice for me. I'm not into alpha-holes at all, but I'm also not much of a fan of books where the MMC spends 90% of the time apologizing.

The steam here is trademark Scarlett Scott. She knows her way around a spicy scene, so you won't be disappointed if that's the reason for reading. I just didn't feel these MC's had that much chemistry together. The kidnapping scene at the beginning harkens back not to a previous book in this series, but to Lady Ruthless. Even though that book is goofy in many ways, Sin and Callie did have strong sexual chemistry in comparison.

Maybe it's just the trend HR's are moving in.

If you're a fan of this series, you'll probably find this book OK. If you're new to Scarlett Scott, I would start with the first book or even something from a few years back first.

This has been an anxiously awaited book that follows Viscount Torrington, aka Torrie, who has lost his memory and most of his physical abilities after a horrific accident. He has become a reckless rake, indulging in drinking, gambling and wenching to escape his pain and boredom. But his life changes when he accidentally kidnaps Miss Elizabeth Brooke, a prim and proper governess who has given up on love and marriage.

Elizabeth is shocked and outraged by her abduction, but she soon realizes that Torrie is not the villain he seems to be. He is actually a kind, charming and handsome man who needs her help to recover his past and his future. She agrees to marry him to save her reputation, but she doesn’t expect to fall in love with him.

Torrie is equally surprised by his attraction to Elizabeth, who is nothing like the women he usually pursues. She is smart, witty, compassionate, and she challenges him to be a better man. He wants to make her happy, but he fears that his secrets and enemies will destroy their chance at happiness.

I was hooked on this captivating romance from the first page to the last. The scorching chemistry between Torrie and Elizabeth is white hot, and their banter is witty and fun. The plot is fast-paced and engaging, with writing that moves at a smooth, easy pace. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves historical romance with steam, passion, emotion and adventure that will leave you feeling satisfied and smiling. I voluntarily read & reviewed an Advanced Reader's Copy of this book; all thoughts & opinions are my own.

Wow what a read!!! We finally get to see what happened to Viscount Torrington after his phaeton accident in the previous Sins and Scoundrels series. Losing his memory from his accident changed Torrie. And to escape the misery of his lost memory he leads a life of debauchery. One fateful night leads him into the arms of his destiny. Kidnapping prim governess Miss Elizabeth Brooke was not his plan and the only honorable thing to do to remedy his mistake is a marriage of convenience. Miss Brooke or "Bess" had long harbored feelings for Torrie. The last thing she wanted to do was to marry the man who had broken her heart in the past. The attraction between them cannot be denied. But will the past keep them apart or can good things come when one is truly ready. Can Torrie regain his memories with the help of Bess? Can they have the HEA they both long for or will circumstances keep them apart. It was great to see characters from the previous book in this series. This is a heartwarming story of destiny bringing together two hearts longing for a soulmate and love to last a lifetime. You will absolutely love this book!! I received an ARC of this book and is my honest review.

A great ending to a great series. My joint favourite with "Duke of Debauchery" - Monty and Hattie's story.
The viscount in this book is Hattie's brother Viscount Torrington or Torrie, who suffered complete memory loss due to a phaeton accident, racing Monty, a couple of books ago.
Torrie accidently kidnaps Bess or Elizabeth, his nasty, spiteful and selfish mistress's governess.
Torrie offers marriage to Bess as a way to save her from the "Ton's" derision.

Bess is just gorgeous and has had a tough life and even worse seasons, she has been the butt of Torrie's mates nastiness during her seasons. But this is mild compared to the viciousness of Torrie's ex mistress and his mother.

Torrie slowly regains much that he has lost in his life since his accident and discovers he has a treasure for a wife.
Bess slowly gains self worth and confidence as she is loved.

We get to spend time with Hattie and Monty, as we see not only their relationship deepen but Bess and Torrie's too.

A great end to this series with wonderful writing, great story development and characters .

On my to reread list - even if I would very much like to slap 2 female characters

What a fantastic story. So many different tropes in this story. I think my favorites would be Governess and mistaken identity. Elizabeth had fallen in love with Viscount Torrington during her first season, but when she overhears him saying rude things about her, her feelings for him change. How could he be so cruel towards her?

When Viscount Torrington, Torrie, meets Elizabeth again, he doesn’t remember her as he has lost his memory due to a phaeton accident, which is probably a good thing as he wasn’t that kind to her. After Torrie mistakenly takes Elizabeth thinking she’s his mistress, things begin to change for him. He does the right thing and offers her marriage. And this is where this story comes to life. The regard Torrie has for Elizabeth was so sweet and tender. Elizabeth has a lot of body issues and can’t believe that Torrie is actually interested in her. It was so nice to see them both slowly fall in love with each other and the obstacles they had to face to get there. I highly recommend this book to everyone. You will love it.
