book one

Mistakes; what I found will be placed on Goodreads. It’s actually pretty well written.

Plot; a little girl plays with a crab because of this the crab gains sentience. There are some plot holes in this book a crab walks into a house and it’s empty and his first thought is where’s all the stuff for the house how would he know what’s in a house for him it’s just an empty cave. That was the biggest one other than that it’s a fun little read

Characters; I actually found the gods to be the more interesting characters when they were watching crabby, Mick crab pants, or whatever his name is there actions were amusing.

This seems to be a web serial based on the extreme amount of skill pages shown. as well as the change in the font later in the book when they’re working in the dungeon, I’ll give this a six out of 10. because while the crab ran the dungeon, he didn’t really get any loot, and I’m a loot whore.

I really adored this adventure of Sir Crabby. I laughed a lot. There were a lot of fun references to pop culture throughout the book but converted into a fantasy setting. I'd definitely recommend checking this out.

A bit of a hard slog

As a huge fan of Rimmel's Noobtown series, I started this book off with high hopes.
Sure, he's only a co-author but how much difference could that possibly make. Turns out, it's a huge difference.
Unfortunately as the book wore on, it got harder and harder to continue.
This book took two weeks to finish because I kept coming up with excuses to not go back to it. I really had to force myself to finish it.
The almost constant references to Thunder Cats, Die Hard 3 and other popular franchises was untempered and relentless. Sure, the Noobtown series has them too, but they aren't used constantly.

As a novice to litRPG, I like this comedic take on the genre. The jokes are sparse, it is more situational comedy than references, which is its strength. At the end, it is more of a light hearted litRPG that functions as a protagonist in a game world.
I liked the protagonist: his whole gag is that he is a crab. We get to see him falling for a goddess crab. We get to see him exploit a glitch that helps him when he talks to that frustrated sphinx in the hall. I loved seeing him be dumbfounded when the God Crabs mention references to real life pop culture or surface animals. We get a Rogue companion who is a starfish that uses its regenerating limbs as bombs and grapplers. She was neat, but lacked development; just a super nice companion. Still, when she was training with the wise Sea Urchin master, I liked her animalistic side coming out.
I liked the regular underwater dungeon being infected and glitched out by a zombie virus, it added a lot of unpredictable challenges to the dungeon crawling that Crabby did. This stuff happens halfway through, but it would’ve anchored me into the plot if it was hinted earlier. As it is, it was a good faceoff against the undead mass, even going as far as to infect some of the companions.
Between chapters, there are little asides from all over this typical RPG world, and some of them are quite funny.
FYI: I listened to the audiobook. The first 2 to 3 hrs of the audiobook really frustrated me. One of the gags in the story is that, since Sir Crabby is an NPC turned into a player, he is a glitch, and therefore he gets a lot of error messages. This translates badly into audiobook format. Also, the status cards translate badly to audiobook. So, it took me a while to get used to skipping through them when they are being read. Eventually, Crabby closes out error messages just as they pop up, so it’s no trouble after the first quarter of the story.

Deepwater Dungeon is an amusing LitRPG story about a crab that gets uplifted accidentally, and the adventures he has while trying to get back to the little girl who did the uplifting is a story well worth the read. The only major issue I had with the book is near the end when they were on floor #8, and the crab at the end of the level told them not to bother going down to the other floors, because it was just the dungeon that had taken over all the remaining floors. Well, that would have meant floors 9 and 10, but the next day when they went to fight the dungeon, they went to floor #7 not 9, and the dungeon had used all the floors (which should have been 9 and 10, but instead was 7, 8, 9 and 10). Otherwise, the story held together well, and even some of the chapter beginnings were funny, especially the one for chapter 35. I found that one especially funny (don't ruin the surprise by checking it out first when you get the book though, it will still be funny, but not nearly as much).
Good story, highly recommended.

"Examples are undead pirana, Ericas uncle, the corrupted meteor and large corporations" (fritt fra husken)
Heroisk og rørende, og veldig gøy.
Nok en gang er Pratchett en god referanse, trur jeg. Også er det la-angt.
Nei, jeg er altså slått i bakken av hvor bra dette er. Gleder meg til bok 3!

Just plain stupid and nonsensical

This isn't even a book or a real story. It's just pages upon pages of pop culture, nerd culture, and 80s-90s kid's cartoons references. The first 1-3 pages of every chapter is some random excerpt from an in universe person on some random tidbit of "lore". The POV changes constantly.

The entire story can be summed up as incredibly lucky crab continues to be incredibly lucky, Gods watch him on TV, while thundercats and Powerpuff girls are constantly referenced. That's it. Oh and throw backs making fun of the author's previously works.

I don't know what I was expecting, but it wasn't this garbage. It's so bad I'm unable to compare it to the worst kinds of food imaginable. It's really that bad. I'm not hating, I usually like Ryan Rimmel's work, but the only place this thing deserves to be is loaded onto a rocket and shot into the sun.

I am giving it only 3 stars, but the book (and the series) have so much more potential and probably should be 3 and half. I am looking forward the second, so I see if it gets close on getting it fulfilled.

The premise is promising, some of the action is fun, the characters have potential. But the feeling I am left with, is that the book is dragging its feet. Probably a bit shorter would have been better.

It has a bit of irony, many easter eggs to pop culture (I probably didn't get even half of them) - these are good to have. However, occasionally they are overdone. Not a problem for me, but reading reviews it seems it is a problem for many readers. The humor is soft, and not "in your face" - I like that very much.

I am curious about the second book, as the way this one ended opened the door for a lot more of world building and exploration.

A rather unique style of litrpg that is about a crab who gains sentience and is then taken to the "gods" who are actually like living sub-programs for the main gods that are trying to stop corruption from entering the world. Sir Crabby is trying to get back to his princess (when he was a pet) and is thrust into a water dungeon to fight and grow. He makes some friends there (like a starfish who he tosses around, and uses her legs to explode things or teleport) and other sea creatures. Once he has beaten the dungeon and the corruption (by using divine power) he is taken to a different part of the world where the dragons and most other creatures are actively trying to fight and beat the corruption.

Take the endless meandering and frequent stat dumps from the primal hunter, throw in a protagonist that was born yesterday with a bard class that only knows the chorus from one repetitive song, and fill at least half the book with the mystery science theater 3000 crew that couldn't land a joke to save their lives.

seriously, most of the material is just references to media from the 90s with random words replaced with crab. I got halfway through and couldn't do it anymore.

Its a shame, I really enjoyed Ryan Rimmel's noobtown series and was hoping for something similar but insert a plucky crab protagonist but this just missed the mark.

A lot of laughs, and a lot of references

As I said, this was a lot of fun. There are a lot of references to pop culture, as well as some references to other litrpgs as is standard in the genre. There were a few moments when it was just too much, but overall it was a great lighthearted adventure. Will definitely pick up the further adventures of Sir Crabby. The start of chapter excerpts were a high point as well!

TLDR: fun, lighthearted and goofy. Don’t get if you want a serious and grim read.

I picked this book up mostly because of the cover, the title, and the genre (litRPG). And wow I wasn't disappointed. It was delightful! So much so that it quickly landed on my top favorite's of the year!
The explanation of how Sir Crabby became sentient was just precious and delightful! Yeah, I loved Sir Crabby aka Crabby McCrabbyface. And soon he was diving into a dungeon along with the help of Luna the starfish and Todd the sea urchin as they set about clearing the dungeon.
So grab the audiobook, and get to know the author and narrator, because they have a story for you!

It's ok-ish.
Most of it is exposition and the rest seems to be pop culture references.
MC is fine, but has the common character issue of too much luck to properly form challenges. Deus ex machina style luck is just a bad idea if it isn't handled well (which it isn't). Having characters point out his luck doesn't help either.
The interextuality is kinda annoying and the lore reason for it is shoehorned in and doesn't make sense for the established universe, whereas it does make sense for Noobtown.
The result is something that lacks any of its own substance.

Not bad

This is an interesting novel, and the world building seems solid (though its early times yet, and we are barely glimpsing the wider world).

I laughed out loud several times, and crabby is a nice guy, but it's hard to really connect to the characters, they are funny little critters doing unimportant things in an unimportant place. If this was designed as a slice of life novel that would be fine, but the premise of this book is "Crabby the Hero" nit "let's hang out with Crabby", and it didn't quite work for me.

Loveable and hilarious

The amazement of concurrent events that lead to our hero being a crab is amazing. The fun of the 80's and 90's pop references slated my funny bone over and over!

The only reason for a four star instead of five star rating was... Like most independent publishers, the lack of editing for spelling and grammar mistakes.

Plus, the ingenious use of crazed type for corruption made some of the surrounding words difficult to make out and pulled me out of the story to figure it out.

Oh So Boring

I paid for the audio book, and really, really tried to finish it. I listened for 50% of the book but gave up and decided to read it. I thought I could skim over the overly boring parts, but that didn't work either. I just couldn't form an interest in the story or care about the characters. This is a children's book that is too complicated for children. I would not recommend this book.

Bit tedious in some places but overall it is fine. The big change made from standard LitRPG novels is that the MC is a crab. Other than that, not a lot of new ground broken.

We still have a broken system, illogical (esp for a crab) references to pop culture from our world, etc, etc.

Bubble gum for the brain...

KU Review

Pretty fun monster story. Unlike some stories, our mc is a monster through and through. His journey to sapience and leveling is entertaining and engaging.

As the title says this is a review for Kindle Unlimited and as such is a reflection of my enjoyment of the book and in no way reflects cost to value analysis.

Has a lot of potential.

This has humor, it has a fun idea, it has great characters. The only issue is the slow writing. The first seven chapters are all set up, and they are dragged out far to much. There is detailed minutia thrown in that makes the book choppy. If the writing is polished up a bit this is an easy five star series.

not bad

Had a lot of pop culture, music, and Noobtown references that were fun. I also like the disposition of the MC. Reminded me of the MC from Cinnabun in many ways. Wish there was more focus on character progression though. Overall, I am glad I read it, but I did have to push through a few spots that got a little slow.

fun

It was a fun read - a dungeon crawler from a crab’s point of view. I really enjoyed it. It does need some small continuity and homonym editing but nothing to egregious nor distracting. The world is great and captivating. The story is well told, original, and fast paced. Not to mention entertaining. So please enjoy!

This is an absolutely bonkers book.
Reading this feels like watching a Spongebob episode, from the crazy humour to the talking sea creatures. I like LitRPGs that don’t take themselves too seriously, so this was a very fun read.
However, I had to knock off a star because of the poor editing. At times, there’s too much repetition, and a lot of misused apostrophes.

DNF at 37 %.

The story is cute but unfortunately, was not for me. The protagonist is a tiny crab who by chance gets lifted to conscience and gets a class. Sir Crabby scuttles, digs holes, sings his "crabby and bananas" song, fights with other crabs crab-style and amazes the gods with his cunning... As nothing interesting happened as long as i read i gave up..

Lots of references and an amusing story. Very few stat blocking which left lots of story to be detailed out. Much more of a cultivation book. The MC is dumb at times but what can you expect their a crab. Though they do grow and feel filled out by the end. I very much enjoyed Mr Crabingtons first book and look forward to the second

I love Ryan Rimmel (author) from Noobtown and I love Phil Thron (narrator) from Space Team, so I assumed that the two of them teaming up would create something great, and I wasn't far off.

The beginning was a little slow, but Crabby is a great protagonist, the secondary characters were great, and the interludes with the gods were a nice touch.

An incredibly amazing story of a little crab surviving in a big world of dungeons gods and rising monsters. It mix of Mythbusters references and meta humor on the fantasy genre reminds me of reading Rick Riordan in middle school and has managed to create a world and cast of characters that I will eagerly return to see again.

This was my first litRPG book and I very much enjoyed it overall, but didn't enjoy the litRPG elements. The gimmick of casting a crab as the protagonist of a fantasy epic is great on its own merits without framing it through the other gimmick of video game logic and stat screens. There was enough heart and humor in the former to make the latter tolerable though.

Good read

I enjoyed this book quite a bit, however there did seem to be a fair number of errors. Missing words z, incorrect words, and inconsistencies in stats.
Additional: Maybe fewer pop culture references. Tom out

In present tense

I have no idea why authors think present tense is a good idea. It isn't. This isn't a TV show or a movie. Just write in the past tense!

This author is even more evil than most. The prologue is in past tense, which is just dishonest.
