A love story between an angel and a girl with supernatural gifts
This book had great medium pa e flow, well plotted out story line that had a web of political intrigue that kept me interested but was easy to follow.

This story captivated me from the very start. I have never read anything by Helen Garraway before, but I'm definitely going to start after this book. The world building was so incredibly detailed, and the world just so fun to be in, that each time I picked up the book I was completely enveloped in the story. It brought me back to how I felt reading fantasy as a child. She is fantastic at blending a religious fantasy world, with magic and mortal humans.
The characters are wonderful. I adore Solanji. We love dark skin and curly hair representation!! As a character I found her very easy to like! Except it took you long enough to make that decision girl. Damn. Also, I think her ability would be bad ass to have. Now Mav.... Mavie my guy.... Damn. So much going on there. But I do like a broody dark man, who is truly a good soul. I think the chemistry between Solanji and Mav is excellent. It does have some spice, and im here for it. I say, more spice in book 2!! Hehe.
Everything about this story was top notch for me. I can't say enough, how much I adore it. I'm still thinking about everyone in Eidolon, and what everyone is going to do. Ugh. Thank you so much for this reading experience Helen Garraway!

Welcome to Puronia ruled by angels and gods. Commit a crime and the SoulSingers remove your soul and you are sent to Eidolan a gloomy and miserable land to live out the rest of your days. There used to be a chance for redemption and to earn back you soul but there are no more SoulBreathers left to return your soul.Solanji can read and manipulate other people through their souls. It's something she has to keep secret, she tries to avoid using her power but its addictive. When she tries to read the wrong person's soulmist she finds herself on a mission in Eidolan where she meets someone who has been kept prisoner and being tortured for his secrets.
I loved everything about this story. The characters, the story arch, the world you can so beautifully picture. Helen has done another wonderful job in building up another world you just can't wait to read about. The tension built throughout the story keeps you reading.
Solanji- strong, mysterious and determined to succeed.
Mav - handsome, dark and I still think there is something hidden.
Felather and Adriz -a definite spin off of their adventures together is required. I loved them.
As the book ended on a cliffhanger I'm interested to see where some of the relationships between characters go from book 1. I know there will be some interesting and exciting developments going forward and one or two dark secrets revealed.

Whoa, the Soulbreathers can take your soul which is such an interesting concept for this story! I really enjoyed this world which was described in such detail that allows the reader to really see it beautifully. I also loved the characters! Solanji is such a strong character with lots of depth and secrets. Overall, a wonderfully written book!

This new series from the acclaimed, award winning Fantasy writer Helen Garraway, far exceeds what she has written before. As the first line of the book states -
‘Not all that was good was in the light; there was good in the dark too, if you bothered to look.’
Helen Garraway. SoulBreather: Book One of the SoulMist series (Kindle Location 65).
This sets the theme which permeates throughout. Within this book, Helen has created two dystopian worlds, as far apart in both essence and goodness, as is humanly possible - Puronia, where all is ‘goodness and light,’ at least on the surface, and Eidolon a place of correction, where those who have sinned go to pay their penance.
There are two main protagonists, Mav (Demavrion) a fallen angel, and an archdeus, who was banished to Puronia many years before, for a crime he did not commit, and Solanji, a young woman who has hidden talents and powers, in that she can touch souls, and read peoples’ minds, which is something she has to keep hidden for her own safety. Time in these worlds has no meaning.
Solanji, whilst on a mission in Eidolon, finds Mav in a dire situation. Together they set to clear his name, and place him where he rightly belongs. Their journey is fraught with danger, as they battle those that would try to prevent this. As well as helping others that had been put to slavery.
The descriptions in this book, are what set it apart from other books of this genre. Helen is a master in conjuring, and creating these worlds. You feel the dank coldness, the constant drizzle as they make their journey throughout Eidolon. The pain and exhaustion, that envelopes these two people at every turn.
To sum up, I would say that even if you are not a fan of fantasy, this book will change your mind. Within its pages there is a wealth of emotions, injustice, hate, love and a person’s desire, no matter what their own circumstances are, to help and protect others.
It is an outstanding read, I cannot recommend it more highly.

I love the main female character, I really like how she is relatable. One of the chapters with the orphanage with the children was sad. Definitely a slow burn with the two main characters. Chapter 26 Mav, definitely my favorite chapter of the book. I can’t wait to read the second book of the series.

I enjoyed this book so much. From the names to the worldbuilding to the relationships to the character descriptions to the plot… this was an excellent story that was really, really hard to put down! Will be reading the next one!

Though not my normal genre, (sci fi romance) this book was riveting. Helen Garraway draws the reader into the drama as it unfolds with rich language and imagery. There is adventure and romance between Mav, a fallen angel and Solanji, a rare human, as they work together for justice and the determination to save those around them. This book is for those looking for a different type of story, that draws you in, captivates and holds your attention. Do yourself a favor and pick it up.

I love to see an author dabble with a new fantasy realm, new characters, new magic, new everything! And Gateway doesn't fail to disappoint. The characters are dark and mysterious, with twisted backstories that keep you guessing.

There are very few books that have the power to capture the reader's attention from the first page itself. Helen Garraway's SoulBreather is one such book.
This book hooked me from the beginning. It's a wonderful tale of angels, souls and one mortal who can see these souls. Solanji is an interesting character. She will win your heart immediately. I loved the chemistry between her and a fallen angel Mav. Both are great and helpful. Their willingness and the struggle they did to save others is what I really appreciate.
The description of Eidolon is so amazing that I want to watch a movie based on this book. Solanji's guts to visit Eidolon impressed me. Not everyone is willing to put their lives at risk to save their loved ones.
The title of the book is suitable and the cover photo is eye-catching. Helen's writing style is nice and I was able to follow the story easily. I am curious to read the next book in the series.

SoulBreather is a great fantasy fiction and it involves romance too. Puronia is an interesting world ruled by angels. Those who commit crime are being punished. SoulSingers remove their souls and send them to Eidolon, a dark land where they have to live forever.
SoulBreather can redeem your soul but now there are no SoulBreathers. Only SoulSuckers are left. Solanji has special powers. She can touch souls and can read minds but she has to keep her powers a secret otherwise her life would be in danger.
The storyline is intriguing. The characters are likable. The story kept me on the edge of my seat as I read this book. I enjoyed this well paced story.
The plot is refreshing. Even those who don't love fantasy should give a read to this book. I am sure they would enjoy fantasy stories going forward. The ending of the book left me curious to get my hands on the second book in the series as it comes out.

SoulBreather written by the author Helen Garraway is the first installment in the Paranormal Fantasy SoulMist Series. The main character of the story is Solanji. She is a SoulSinger, a rare human who could touch souls.
Mav is a fallen angel who ended up in Eidolon without a soul. He has no idea how he is there. Mav found 4 children whose soul has been taken and he considers it as his responsibility to protect these children.
Solanji's younger brother was caught stealing. He is imprisoned and Solanji was asked to perform a task in exchange for the release of her brother. Will Solanji be successful in completing the task?
Those who love sci-fi stories should definitely get their hands on this one. World building is amazing and I appreciate the author's vivid imagination in creating this fantasy world. The story is gripping and I enjoyed every bit of it. Looking forward to reading more books by the author in this series.

Dominion meets Constantine with Sabriel vibes (Garth Nyx novel)
This book was very well thought out, from the beautiful map design, the very interesting characters, the worldbuilding, the supernatural theme, the prose delivered smoothly, to the plot structure, this book had it all.
This is a love story between Mav, a fallen angel with an unorthodox heart of gold and Solanji, although street smart she is a naive girl with supernatural gifts.
The author created this world divided between Eidolon and the citadel of Angelicus, kind of a hellish dark purgatory and a corrupted heavenly sunny city.
The political web is intricate but easy to follow. There are cool shadow characters that I want to meet. I would love to travel by Dragonair. However, I would like to avoid those soul thieves …LOL
Mav wants to stop the trafficking of children, but ends up being tortured until he joins the villains, while Solanji is blackmailed to save her brother who is only nine years old. Both fates collide in a dungeon, making this love/adventure story fun to read.
Mav and Solanji drive this story to a fast pace. Loaded with fun situations and banter between them. The writer did an incredible job inflicting the emotional rollercoaster all the way till the last page…
It is written well without visible grammatical or spelling errors. This book flows medium to fast pace, building the tension to a faster cannot put down pace with a perfect satisfying delivery.

Very similar plot to a lot of fantasy, you might think, but boy does Garraway deliver on the characters here. If you don't fall for Mav, and his snipy shadows, you're a stone hearted dybbuk and Sojanji's gradual discovery of her gifts works to bind the romance.
Also loved the weird and wonderful sidekick characters who, no doubt, have room to grow over the series.

Soul Breather is the first book by Helen Garraway I have read/listened to. I will be looking for more of Helen’s work. Excellent job with world building and character development. I could see the world and feel the tension of the story as it unfolded. It is a unique view on with Angels, Soul Breathers, Punishments, and multi-realms. I am looking forward to book 2! The narration was excellent.

SoulBreather is a great fantasy read, with a romance sub-plot. I also think that the plot is refreshing, which I love in fantasy books. It ends in a cliffhanger, so I look forward to read the rest of the series once it comes out.

This series starter introduces Solanji, Demavrion, and the worlds they live in. After reading a couple of other books by the author, I've come to expect well crafted stories and had high expectations. I was not disappointed.
Politics, intrigue, action, betrayal, a slowburn romance, and a few mysteries make for a story that drew me in from the start. Mav has missing memories and a murder accusation hanging over his head. Solanji has secret abilities that make her a target of dangerous enemies who want to use her.
Imaginative world building and complex character development make the story fly by. The side characters are interesting — the potential for some spinoffs is already clear — yes, that's a hint!
I like the unique mythos set up for angels and soulbreathers. Solanji and Mav are relatable and I liked them both from the start. Neither of them are perfect. They each have secrets and personal agendas. Other characters are just as easy to dislike and I hope many bad things happen to them!
The narrative ends in an excellent place to set up the next book, but I wasn't ready for the story to be over.
Tim Paige's performance kept me interested and entertained from the beginning of the story. I couldn't believe it when the story ended. I was ready to listen for hours more!
