Haunted Love #3

Screwing with a Ghost

Rate this book
When Miguel decides to move back to his hometown to help his mom and sister, the only home in his budget is the abandoned and haunted estate he used to vandalize in his youth. He’s not exactly worried, but meeting the resident ghost isn’t high on his list of priorities. As Miguel sets about cleaning and converting the old barn into his new art studio, his ghostly housemate demonstrates strong opinions on Miguel’s life choices.

As far as new landlords go, Edward is pleased Miguel plans to restore his deteriorating ancestral home. Miguel’s ludicrous notion that men can wear dresses and sew, however, has Edward rethinking his ex-pastime in hauntings. But as Edward learns more about Miguel and his nontraditional lifestyle, plus the strange connection they seem to share, he can’t suppress his increasingly inquisitive nature or his burgeoning feelings for the one man who truly sees him, despite being invisible.

What starts out as a tentative truce, turns into something more as indignation melts into curiosity, then flirty teasing. Is it totally crazy that Miguel might have the tiniest crush on a ghost? Would it be even crazier to hope his ghost might have a crush on him back?

Screwing With a Ghost is book three in the Haunted Love series. This is a series of nine books, all by different authors, this one written by Morgan Mason. It’s my first book by this author. All books are stand alones.

Miguel Ramirez is an up and coming artist. Despite poor choices his mother has made in the past, Miguel feels compelled to move home to Blackwell, Oklahoma when she needs help after her divorce. With limited funds, Miguel buys the local “haunted house,” a house that he himself helped to vandalize when he was young. The house has been empty for years now and needs a lot of work but also has the perfect barn which can be used as his art studio.

Edward Blackwell has been stuck roaming the property of his youth for one hundred years, since his life ended tragically along with his family. He’s actually happy to see his former home has a new owner and is excited that he wants to fix the house up.

It doesn’t take Miguel long to realize that there is a ghost living with him but he makes every effort to make sure his roommate knows he wants to be friends. And friends these two become. Edward can’t speak but they find their own way to communicate. And the more time they spend together, their friendship deepens to more.

This was a very sweet and fluffy love story. It’s a quick read and the perfect little Halloween treat. The bond between Miguel and Edward was so strong and it was so sweet to see the ways they found to be together, even to find a way to share some intimate times! Today was a rainy day and this was the perfect way to spend my afternoon.

I really am enjoying this collection of stories so much.
They're simple, predictable, and corny, and I don't know if I love them inspite, or because of that.
Just a lovely escape from reality.

Aww this was very cute and fluffy, and even had a little bit of sad emotional moments to balance it out! I appreciated that this book decided to skip over the "i don't believe in ghosts" part - that has its place, but it gets annoying and I much preferred that this focused on the connection between Miguel and Edward instead.

I liked the creative ghost sex too. I mean, that's why I'm reading this series, but still it's fun to see how different authors approach it.

Overall, nice easy read, very fluffy and adorable plus ghost.

4.5 stars!

This ghost story was just so sweet and heartwarming!

Miguel moves home to help his mum and sister. He buys an abandoned and haunted old estate. He sets about cleaning the house and turning the barn into an area for him to do his art.

Edward is the houses resident ghost. He has been there for a long time after his family was murdered. When you learn the reason his family all died, my heart broke for him. He blames himself for what happened and he broke my heart.

I loved the relationship between him and Miguel. They start finding a way to communicate with each other and get to know each other. They form a beautiful friendship, that eventually turns to love. They just get each other, even if Edward doesn't get why Miguel loves wearing dresses. There story is a bit insta-love, but that works for this story.

I kept wondering how these two would be able to be together. As the story got nearer the end, I couldn't help feeling sad. Especially when Miguel does what he does for Edward near the end. I was suprised by how sexy, ghost sex was! It was very hot and intimate, even without Edward being physically there.

I loved the ending! I won't give it away as that would spoil the story. Let's just say, these two beautiful men do get a HEA!

I received a copy of this book from Gay Romance Reviews, and this is my honest review.

Connection across time

A very emotional read that did a good job addressing the issues of romancing a ghost, namely the difficult lack of future. Watching these two men learn about each other, even with their difficulties to communicate, and each blossom and grow in their love was bittersweet. It was clear there was no way to be together but they loved anyway, but the heartbreak of that was fully addressed as well. It was a sweet and touching story. The only draw back was that the entire thing revolved around Miguel moving home to help his family......and then we literally never see the family or him doing anything to help. It just seemed odd to hinge the big life change on something that is never done. Outside of that, very sweet and easy read.

fantastic!

This was my second read through of this book and my second time through this multi author series. I am loving it just as much the second time as the first. This was an amazing book and series as well.

I enjoyed getting to know Miguel and Edward, both what happened in their pasts and how they've realized they both needed closure. Edward and Miguel, even though they don't communicate through traditional means, they both find something they've been longing for without realizing what they needed. A good read!

First of all, the title is a bit on the crass side for this particular story. This is really more of a supernatural love story and, while there are some sexy times, I wouldn't go so far as to call it 'screwing", or even the focus of the story. That said, this was a nice, easy read that featured a heavy dose of instalove and a bit of cheesy dialogue. While I'm usually all for tender moments of emotional outpouring, the conversations between Miguel and Edward were a bit cliche. Additionally, at the beginning, Edward presents himself as being a young man from a high social status and it shows in his speech, as he comes across suitably refined - if not desperately lonely. Then we find out he's from the 1920's - the era of flappers and speakeasys - and his speech didn't really fit his time period, but it changed again to more modern language as the story went on and I found it a little disconcerting to have him continually flip flopping in such a short amount of time. Seriously, what gentleman from the 1920's would use the phrase "It sucked!"? Miguel starts off as an interesting character - an artist by trade back home to help his mother and sister - a little serious and trying to be responsible, and even his acceptance of the ghost, Edward, was believable - until it wasn't! Suddenly Miguel is being all flamboyant, letting his sweet little freak flag fly, throwing himself at Edward and I was all ... "What happened?" I had no problem with his wearing dresses or sewing but it came out of left field and super over-the-top and didn't seem to jive with the persona that he started with. His personality just got sappier and so stereotypically "queer" that I had a hard time really connecting with him. Or with Edward. Don't get me wrong, there were some really sweet moments and times that I just had to smile because of the genuine emotion, and then the author would pour on the sap and rush through and I wound up feeling a bit cheated. The ending - ending was totally slapped on with very little clarity as to what the previous six months had been like for the couple and suddenly they're setting up for their wedding - apparently with lots of guests but I don't know who because the only secondary characters we meet are Miguel's mother, sister and two nephews. Oh, and the voodoo woman who performed the ritual that ended up bringing Edward back! I actually kind of liked her! And don't get me started on Edward, the man who was killed for being gay and who initially had totally balked at Miguel wearing "women's" clothing, suddenly becoming a designer of women's period fashions - and apparently lingerie! What in the total brain swap happened in only six months?! I don't even know what to do with that!
All-in-all, it was ok - a decent enough read - maybe a 3.5* but nothing that I'll linger over. It had a lot of potential in spots but just didn't quite reach its goal. I love supernatural romance stories but this one was just too disjointed and just didn't do it for me.

I chose to read this book because it’s not often I stumble upon something that much out of the norm of romance tropes.
To be honest it’s the third book ever where I’ve had one of the MCs being a ghost or spirit.

My curiosity sufficiently picked I gave it a try.
I believe it’s a cute book and objectively a good book. I did find it a little mushy at times but it’s a personal feeling. I’m also not a fan of insta-love and those two were a bit quick.

Miguel decided to come back home to Oklahoma to be closer to his family.
The most affordable housing option is the old, decrepit estate that everyone thinks haunted.
Miguel knows this place, like every teenager he’s been there already. Dating himself to go in, squatting the place late at night …
Now the landlord of the house he discovers that ghosts aren’t just a myth in this home.

Edward died a violent, emotional death almost a century ago.
His spirit not at peace he haunts his family home, tentatively guarding it from vandalizing teens.
When Miguel moves in he’s not the young man who broke windows, he’s a confident, nice man ready to make amends and who greets its supposed occupants with an open mind.
Edward hasn’t talked to anyone in a hundred years. Nobody has cared about him. He’s more than ready for a friend.

Their friendship grows with communication tricks and soon feelings get deeper than that. But what future can you hope for when one of you is dead ?

It’s a sweet, cute story with an HEA.

This book wasn't for me. If you like insta love, then this is a great choice for you to pick up next. It was too fast pasted, not enough emotional trama for my liking. I was really hoping for more.

a moving well done romance

Rating: 4.5🌈

Screwing With A Ghost is the first book I read by Morgan Mason and also the first I picked out of the Haunted Love collection. The description intrigued me and I love the chance to explore a new author.

This paranormal romance has so much to recommend it. A haunting back story for the ghost, a charming personality and engaging character for the young, very much alive man who has returned home to see his mother through yet another failed marriage and emotional struggles.

I’m never sure how an author will handle a love affair that involves a ghost as part of the romantic equation. There’s a certain bittersweet element that’s built into such a relationship seeing as one person is alive and another is dead, physically removed from the other. For them to realistically be fully together, they both should share the same plane.

How Mason resolves this aspect of her story isn’t revealed until almost the very end.

Until then we are treated to an unlikely friendship between a ghost with a well known horrifying past, Andrew Blackwell, and a young artist, Miguel, who buys at a huge discount, the infamous haunted Blackwell farm. Back to take care of his mother, he’s left his friends and a prodigious art studio invitation behind, for a farm that needs lots of work to live in and a barn he wants for his studio.

A two person POV gives us a wonderful introduction to both men, their backgrounds, and in Andrew’s case, his ideas of masculinity and his era’s thoughts on homosexuality, all of which were toxic in the extreme. He gets a shock when he sees Miguel, who loves color and dresses gender free.

Their relationship is woven slowly through wisps of swirling air and leaves, the briefest of chilly touches, and the sheer need to communicate. It’s moving and heartbreaking as they begin a relationship that has become increasingly difficult yet so important to each other.

I wished there was more to the ending and all that was happening there. It wasn’t as layered as the rest of the story but felt a bit rushed.

Still , this is a really interesting and compelling romance and I’m happy to have found a new author to look forward to.

I’m recommending Screwing With A Ghost ( Haunted Love #3) by Morgan Mason and will be diving into the other books.

The title of this is almost a misnomer, I get that it's a pun because Miguel is renovating the house he just bought that Edward happens to be haunting, though. I like the concept of this, I understand there is a series of these all with different ghost stories so I was keen to see how it would all resolve.

Edward has been trapped at his house for decades since being murdered, and now finds he can communicate with the new owner of the house, and so has a chance to move on. Miguel has moved home to be near his own family, and bought the house knowing it was haunted but didn't expect to be able to communicate with the ghost, let alone begin a relationship with it.

I really liked this story, I felt for Edward as his predicament wasn't of his own doing, and I felt sorry for him being trapped there all this time with nobody around. There is a bit of an insta-love thing, and it all develops between them fairly quickly and things escalate fast. I did wonder how it would all resolve and I admit to feeling a bit sad when I thought Edward was moving on and away.

It was a good story, it moved along fairly well and the characters are likable and the setting was well done too. This is a first from this author for me and I really enjoyed it.

I received an ARC and this is my honest review.

I didn't realize how much I love ghost stories, but I read a few really terrific ones lately. This one was quite different but really charming and sweet.
Miguel moves to a house he knows is haunted, because he wants to be close to his mom who needs his help.
Edward - the ghost is intrigued, even if he is a little hesitant about Miguel at first. He has a clear picture of what a man should or shouldn't do, and Miguel sewing, dressing in gowns for fun or using nail paint makes him really uncomfortable. However, Miguel does a great job of bringing Edward to the 21st century and showing him that a man can do really everything he wants and there is definitely nothing wrong with a man loving another man.
Towards the end the story dragged a little and I started losing interest, the way they got their hea was a little weird, but of course it is difficult to find a plausible solution to that, as long as one of the main characters is dead...
Also there were a few issues, like the side characters being thrown aside without further notice, once those two found a way to communicate.
The mother, who before needed Miguel so much was suddenly completely out of the picture, never to be mentioned again.
So, some things could have been dealt with in a better way, but overall it was still a fun and angst free story and for me a 3.5 star read

This is a clever and engaging ghost story.  I think it can be quite challenging to pull off a written ghost story,  as creating suspense and creepiness is hard with no visual tricks.  But, this one is well done. I was pulled into the atmosphere of Miguel’s new farm right away. I loved the detailed descriptions of the old Blackwell property, they really helped set the stage for an entertaining ghost story. The author does an excellent job balancing Edward and his possessiveness of his family home with the kindness and protectiveness he begins to feel towards Miguel. There is also wonderful emotion here, especially in Edward’s chapters. His utter joy at being acknowledged for the first time in almost a century when he and Miguel figured out they can communicate, is so heartfelt and poignant. No spoilers for they mystery of Edward and his family, but it adds real depth and impact to the book. This is a well crafted ghost story, with a great mix of humor and heart, a fun fall read complete with a satisfying happy ending.

What a Love Story💜

Oh my heart, what a beautiful and at times emotional love story. The emotional connection between Miguel and Edward is so well written you feel their love, their pain and their hope.

When Miguel moves back to his small hometown in Oklahoma to look after his mom and help his recently divorced sister with her three children the only property he can afford is the old run down Blackwell place, a place he used to hang out at with his mates smoking and drinking and he can remember breaking some of the windows himself!

It’s common knowledge in the town that the place is haunted, a hundred years ago there was a tragedy and all the Blackwell family are buried in the family plot nearby, but Miguel is determined to make the best of it and if he has to live with a ghost he hopes he can befriend it.

This is a new to me author and I like her writing style so I will be reading more of her books. This book is part of the new multi-authored Haunted Love series and I can’t wait to read some of the others.

Wow...this book really hit me in the feels! Edward has been stuck in limbo for almost a century with no relief in sight until Miguel buys his ancestral home and moves in. For some reason, Miguel can sense when Edward is around so he tries to communicate with him. Although they can't visually or verbally communicate with each other, they figure out different ways to let their thoughts be known and it is pretty awesome! I loved how big Miguel's heart was and how he wanted to ease Edward's suffering. These two definitely had a connection that could be felt on a cellular level. I really got swept away with this story and, not gonna lie, my eyes teared up more than once. The raw desire and longing these two had for one another was incredibly beautiful, yet painful because of the realization that they could never be together in this life. This is a love story that is full of hope, desire, and the belief that true love always wins. Highly recommend!

Murder most foul. No matter the era, not matter the motive, the circumstances of Edward Blackwell's death was inexcusable. What his autoractic father did to the entire family was horrendous. His spirit has existed for 98 years, unable to cross over. But potential change could happen when eclectic artist Miguel moves back into the Blackwell's house that everyone knows is haunted. Miguel accepts this as once when he was young he also believed this. But now he just needs to revitalize the place to make it his home to do his artistic endeavors in. He senses Edward but just accepts his spirit by "talking" with him. Edward is amazed by his acceptance and so begins to also talk with Miguel by senistive touches. Thus starts an air of acceptance that both men learn by "touch" to embrace their situation. This is a sensitive description well worth the reading. Not one's usual ghost tale but so much more. This is my voluntary review for the book I received.

This was a unique story about Edward, a ghost who died violently nearly 100 year ago, and Miguel, an artist who comes back to his hometown and moves into the abandoned house that Edward grew up in.

Even though the property was said to be haunted, Edward and Miguel were able to repair the buildings after convincing the towns people to stay away.

The romance that grew between them, through touch and taps, was so sweet. Miguel was willing to try anything to reach Edward. Edward was brave enough to respond. And their sensual sides emerged.

When Cecile came and worked her magic, I had goose bumps! The ending was perfect and I'm definitely going to be reading more from this author.

But the title doesn't quite fit this romantic tale. Maybe 'Touching a Ghost' would be more accurate.

A cute, sweet story about two souls finding their HEA

I’m really enjoying this collection and I very much enjoyed Edward and Miguel’s story. These two are, at first appearance, opposite with very different world views (as would happen when one of you is a 100 year old ghost). But when they spent time together, often simply existing in each other’s space because of their communication issues, they found something much deeper than simple attraction. I liked how much Edward and Miguel connected on an emotional level; it wasn’t about shared hobbies or sexual compatibility per se, it was about feeling comfortable in each other’s presence, wanting simply to exist together, talking about nothing and anything. I loved how open Miguel was to learning about Edward and how much effort he put into making him feel comfortable. The only thing that I didn’t like was occasionally the dialogue felt a little stilted. It wasn’t all the time (more there occasional line or two) but it just didn’t always fit the speaker. Outside of that I really enjoyed it - it’s a definite sweet HEA read!

I was completely intrigued by the premise of this book. The storyline seemed a fun adventure, and I'm all for the romance between Miguel, who is repairing a deteriorating haunted house, and Edward, the ghost haunting that house. But how can a romance work- or have a happy ending when one of the two of the couple is dead? I had to read this and find out, of course! I absolutely loved the relationship between Miguel and Edward. It felt very natural in the way they communicated and I loved the emotion, kindness, affection, and then love there. I couldn't put this book down, and I'm sure I'll be rereading it again very soon! This is the first book I've read by this author, and I'll definitely be reading more! 5 stars.

This book blew all my expectations away. I loved every second of it, and had to force myself to slow down so I didn’t finish it too soon.

Miguel is so understanding and so so sweet. He handles living in a haunted house 1000 times better than I would.
Edward just broke my heart, and all I wanted to do was hug the poor man.

This story was an easy read, low angst, I would even consider it fluffy with a little edge because one of the MCs is a ghost.
I’ve been really into paranormal romances lately, and this one has to be in my top 5. I would recommend this to anyone and everyone!

I will be reading more by this author, and I will be purchasing a physical copy to add to my shelf. 5/5 🌟

Don’t even think about it, just read it. You won’t be disappointed!!

This is not Casper. Miguel, likes to wear dresses and makeup. He moves back home to help his Mom and sister. His brother, Nando can't move back home and his sister, Lola has his own kids to care for. He ends up sharing his house with an opinionated ghost, Edward Blackwell. He was murdered and trapped at the house. As impossible as it sounds, Miguel and Edward got to know each other well. They formed a basis for a fantastic relationship, two old souls back together again. Can they find a way for Edward to pass on? Can Miguel survive without Edward? Does Edward want to go Will they find their peace? Good story. Good friends and family support system. Nicely done. I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Edward is a ghost attached to his family's long abandoned home. He dared to explore his sexuality and for that he , and his family, paid the price with their lives. Since then he has passed the years watching the world go by and scaring any of the locals that dare to trespass.

Miguel is an out and proud designer that has moved back home to support his mother and sister. The only home he can afford is Edward's family homestead. So he moves in and starts to breathe life back into the empty house. I was very curious to see how an author could build chemistry with two men on either side of the veil. But this love story, even though there is plenty of spice, is well written and sweet. And the HEA is a twist that I didn't expect but I loved!

Tearjerker

Wow this was a real tearjerker. I had to stop halfway through to take a break because I knew I was going to be crying so much. Edward is a ghost and has been haunting his family home for 98 years. Miguel moves back to his hometown and decides to buy the pretty cheap, yet possibly haunted old Blackwell house and barn. From their first encounter, Miguel was trying to be respectful of his ghostly companion. As the story went on they found a way to communicate with each other that was playful, sweet, and sexy at times. I really thought it was going to end differently but I was pleasantly surprised. Their love story is so sweet and beautiful. Grab a box of tissues (or in my case, a roll of paper towels haha!) and jump right into this wonderful story.

a Wonderful and Refreshing Approach to Romance.

Is there more than five stars? This book deserves them. I loved the refreshing new approach it used. If you are feeling jaded about the romantic title currently available, try this one. This is the book version that gives you the same feelings that the movie Ghost did only this one is about how the relationship start rather than how it ends. It might be a good idea to grab a box of tissues before you start however. I certainly cried. I’m not going to say anything else as I don’t want to spoil your read of this wonderfully crafted story. Enjoy!

Spice: 2.5/5 🌶️
Characters: Miguel and Edward

This was very cute. I absolutely devoured the first half of this.
I still enjoyed the second half, but it felt like a very sudden shift. They went from playful moments and light touches to being in soulmate level love. Obviously, I wanted them to both be in love, but it just felt like it came out of nowhere and went from this beautiful slow building thing to a slammed door in your face "I would die for you" overnight. I think I would have liked this a lot more if it had been longer with the building of the romance being shown rather than implied.
But I still really enjoyed this!

ADORABLE 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰!

And the ghost sex was surprisingly hot!

I saw the end twist coming a mile away, but it was done so adorable I didn't mind :)

Not a lot of world building or backstory and the magic/ghost technicalities are never explained, so if you are interested in those parts, skip this xD but if you want a super cute MM love story with a bit of hot ghost smut, definitely read this book.

The pacing of the love story felt a bit jumpy, as though the author suddenly decided to skip from burgeoning interest to full on love, which bothered me a bit. That's the only reason I'm not giving this five stars.
Except for that, it was a delightful, sexy, cute read :)

ARC review incoming: One of my favorite genres is PNR. Oh my gosh, this story caught me by surprise. This book is very sweet and emotional. Understandable I suppose when one falls in love with a ghost who you need to help into their rest. Miguel is a beautiful young man who loves his family. Edward never got the chance to live his truth. These characters really gripped my heart and I may have shed a tear or two reading this. This was my first story by this author but it will not be my last. Hello backlist and TBR pile.

This was my first read in the Haunted Love world. A collection of shorter books that feature ghostly love interests. They're instalove which I find often in paranormal stories. Miguel moves home to be near family and has known the property had tales of being haunted. So the ghostly aspect wasn't shocking to him and he easily started a relationship with Edward. They were a cute couple and I look forward to more of these books.
