Deonne has finally had enough of her boyfriend’s toxicity, and when his behavior crosses the line she musters the courage to kick him out once and for all.
She thinks she's finally found peace but then, in the midst of her deepest sleep in years, she is deliciously ravished and brought to the heights of ecstasy in a vivid dream by a sexy stranger with an insatiable desire for her. Intrigued by the intense eroticism of her dream, and in an attempt to revive her non-existent love life, Deonne heads to a singles mixer, and bumps into the devastatingly attractive, and charming Rafael. She finds herself irresistibly drawn by the pull he has over her mind, and body.
But, what if things might be too good to be true? She can't stop thinking about him or his strong arms, muscular chest, or rippling abs... his oddly familiar green eyes. But as Deonne is about to find out, Rafael has secrets of his own.
The truth is that Rafael is an incubus who allows himself to experience only the pleasure of sex without emotional attachment...until now… He wants Deonne, who he believes may be his soul mate—and for the first time in his life he might allow himself to even love someone—but at what cost?
Can he maintain his secret from Deonne? Will he be able to seek redemption from her if he loses control? Can he fix her heart if it shatters?
This book is a standalone story. If you love steamy romance, sexy demons, and just desserts, this novella is for you.
im literally obsessed with this cover!!! i think the dialogue was not good :/ like it was either boring or cringe. i think the author failed to have interesting conversations between the two and when it was it was cringe. the writing was pretty all over the place i felt. but i still liked the story, i liked the smut too except there was this one line where it said “he continued the assault on my p***y” and i’m like ??? was that supposed to be hot? like i get it was supposed to be aggressive sex but there wasn’t any synonyms that could’ve been used? also what baffled me was that in the beginning her man was taking money out of their joint account but they had only been together a year. it’s absolutely crazy to me that you would have a joint account with someone after only knowing them a year and then get shocked when they steal your money??? like you practically told him to???
If you put a book with a gorgeous cover in front of me (as Amazon has been doing a fantastic job of late) I WILL buy it. I have NO self control when it comes to buying books. Am I ashamed of this? No, no I’m not. That being said, whether a story is good or not is not dependent on the cover, but the cover sure does help your decision when purchasing, right? Lol.
That being said, this book was a good erotic read. Short, very short. Only 84 pages, so don’t go into this story looking for a whole lot of character development. Or a drawn out plot. Chances are, you read the plot and are just looking for a quick read. This is it.
It’s got everything you want from your stories. A smouldering H that is just the epitome of alpha energy. An h that is in need of rescuing and boy does she get rescued. From a terrible relationship and mediocre sex. The scenes are so steamy, if you’re wearing your glasses, prepare to wipe down the fog. And finally, an asshole big bad who gets his comeuppance. All the basics.
This is my second book from Lexi and the woman knows how to write a fantastic sex scene, okay? I enjoy her writing style and will continue to follow her writing journey. Hopefully she writes a full length novel soon because I’d enjoy it.
"...and for a split second, they flash a hot, blood red, his pupils thinning into slits before they return to their emerald green state."
A demon and an angel. Theoretically but not quite. He feeds off of lust, and she provides it. A demon and human romance? Yeah, definitely sign me up.
Well...This book was not entirely what I expected. It was the embodiment of fast-paced, and had all the spice and somethings nice, with a whole lot of cringe and thrill. I cannot tell you how many times I was hooked on the spicy scenes and then the dialogue came and washed it all away with one word...Literally one word. Don't even get me wrong the cover is totally eye catching, and the title is not miss-leading what-so-ever, but the cringe words for me was too much of an emphasis to ignore.
I want the time I spent on this book back...But, anything for the reading challenge :/
Reading some new to me authors before a signing event can always come with some ups and downs. While I'm not huge on monster/paranormal romance, I thought this was the perfect way to go since it's more of a novella and the story would take off fast and proceed the same way.
Deonne is in a toxic relationship and it seems like the man she is with is no good for nothing. She finally has enough and kicks him to the curb. He is none too happy, but her friends are and set her up with a dating event where she meets the man of her literal dreams. But dreams can come with some repercussion.
This was fast and to the point and the writing was ok. Maybe because the story was a quick one we didn't have time for the main characters to have some good and deep dialogue? Not sure, but they meet and have their night and then he is basically hers whether she wants it or not. Did like that he was more than expected and he would literally incinerate anyone that hurt her. He is all alpha and protective, but only for her.
Overall ok and seems like a good introduction to this author's writing style which could improve, but was not horrible. Just needed more.
Great spice! Super quick read, if you enjoy insta-love you will enjoy this book. I think the dialogue could be better and I wanted to see the week away but it’s ok! I never read an monster romance with an incubus lead, so that was fun!
60 pages, it’s a quick, feel good, shitty BF gets what he deserves, spicy read. I really liked the beginning and was going to give it 5 stars but the last half felt very blunt and fast paced, like it seemed as though the author was in a hurry.
Deonne breaks up with her loser boyfriend and quickly finds respite with a mysterious man with glowing red eyes. He does everything her ex didn't and woos her in every way.
This book was a perfectly short and spicy incubus story. If you want a quick monster romance, this book is it!
Short novella about a woman in a terrible relationship getting involved with a supernatural creature. I know it’s short, but I found it odd Deonne didn’t ask more questions and just accepted a lot of weird things. Anyway, always here for more paranormal romances with Black female leads.
Book Review Title: Wet Dream by Lexi Esme Genre: Erotica, Romance Rating: 3.75 Stars After reading Threads of Fate by this author recently I couldn’t wait to get into another interracial, paranormal romance and it certainly didn’t disappoint. In this book we are following, Deonne who has been trapped in her relationship with Jerome and she has finally reached her breaking point and kicks him out. That night she has the strangest yet most delicious dream she can remember having but brushes it off the next morning when she wakes up. She ends up speaking to a friend who sends her to a single mixer to find a rebound, to get her mind of Jerome and the end of their relationship and Deonne reluctantly agrees. It is at this mixer that she meets Rafael and the immediate chemistry between them is intense. They do end up going to bed that night where Deonne realises all the things she has denied herself but staying and putting up with Jerome’s behaviour. Rafael also seems eager to be with her and actually ends up taking her to Hawaii when she suddenly gets a week off work. These coincidences are strange to Deonne but she just continues to shrug it off but there is something going on with Rafael. After their trip, Rafael wants to pursue a relationship with Deonne but she doesn’t feel that she is ready yet but decides to spend one last night with Rafael. However, they are interrupted as Jerome is in the apartment thinking that Deonne would take him back the way she has before but this time Rafael steps in to help her get rid off Jerome. That night she has another dream about Rafael and he informs her that she is in danger before Deonne wakes up. She realises that Jerome is in her apartment with a knife and he attacks her but Rafael is quick to appear and deal with him for good. Rafael reveals here that he is in an incubus, a type of demon and that he sent Jerome to Hell. Rafael knows that Deonne might not want to be with him but she surprises him as all those strange things finally makes sense to her. The final sex scene and the morning after were both steamy and so sweet at the same time. Rafael has his soulmate, the only person who can sate his hunger and Deonne has the type of man she has always dreamed of who will treat her right no matter what. I did really like this book but the pacing seemed a little off and in places it felt like scenes were missing but the story doesn’t address them. Overall, it was great and was definitely smuttier than Threads of Fate but the other book has better pacing.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Sometimes you pick up a book for the plot… and sometimes the plot is he’s hot, he’s got horns, and he shows up in your dreams to absolutely wreck your sleep schedule. Wet Dream is short, spicy, and not here to play subtle — and honestly? I respect the hustle.
Deonne is freshly out of a relationship that was less “soulmate” and more “emotional root canal.” Her friends, being the real ones they are, drag her to a singles mixer to help her move on. But the real magic starts when her dreams turn X-rated… and very vivid. Enter: Rafael, a green-eyed stranger who seems suspiciously familiar and entirely too good at knowing exactly what she needs.
Spoiler alert: he’s an incubus. And yes, he feeds off lust. Yes, there are steamy dream encounters. Yes, you will need water. But while this novella comes in hot with the spice, don’t expect deep dives into emotional arcs or worldbuilding — this is more “monster boyfriend buffet” than seven-course fantasy romance. Which, let’s be honest, sometimes hits the spot.
It’s spicy, messy, and 100% self-indulgent—and honestly? That’s kind of the point. The banter occasionally skids into cringe territory, but the vibe is full-throttle fantasy. It's a one-sitting read designed to get your heart rate up and your jaw on the floor.
Don’t expect character arcs. Don’t expect sense. But do expect lust demons and sexy chaos.
Tropes: 💭 Demon x Human 💭 Post-breakup glow-up (with a supernatural twist) 💭 Lust magic & dream connections 💭 Dream lover turned real 💭 One-sitting erotica 💭 High heat / low angst
- Wet dreams (title says it all) - Light BDSM, like super light, like diet BDSM - One utterance of Good Girl - Just a little bit of tail, but a lot of *tail* - Non-romanticized domestic abuse
Deonne is a hard worker with a deadbeat boyfriend who works hard at leaving an ass shaped dent in her couch. He spends his days on Xbox, drinking and spending her money on his other girlfriends. Finally she decides she is done and throws him out, then she has the hottest most intense wet dream of her life. Her best friends sets her up for a singles mixer where she literally runs into the man of her dreams and he sweeps her away.
This was a hot and wild ride! I read both of Lexi's books back to back and I am not entirely sure which one I would call a favorite. Probably Threads of Fate if only because it had a little more character dept, but this one was just as good, just not as emotional for me.
The relationship between Deonne and Jerome (her boyfriend at the start) I think high lights but doesn't romanticize domestic abuse, which kudos. So many books put it into the light where the abuser is in fact the love interest, and I don't mean Dark Romance...romances that are toted as HEA and sweet. This is not like this. We do get to see Deonne's growth in the short pages of this book, realizing she is worth so much more than he says. I love her for that.
Lexi has a gift, I am super excited to see what else she writes.
Thoughts: This short little novella was a great introduction for me to this author. It dealt with complex issues (abuse), while also having great banter, and a good amount of steam. I was impressed by how much this author managed to write into 61 pages.
Though I truly enjoyed this read, I couldn’t help but wish it was longer. The story was great and it would only have been better if there was more pages, and we got to have thorough backstories on the characters. Deonne and Rafael were interesting mc’s and I would have loved to learn more about them.
I recommend this to anyone looking for a spicy demon romance that is quick and to-the-point but still has an interesting plot outside of the spice. Looking forward to future reads by this author.
Deonne is a hard worker with a deadbeat boyfriend that only cause her headaches and frustration until one day she muster the courage to kick him out for good. She then had the most intense wet dream in her life. Thinking it was nothing until her best friend invited her to a mixer and literally fell right into the arms of the man of her dreams. Swept of her feet by Rafael, Deonne experience love and affection for the first time until disaster strikes and Rafael is force to reveal his true self. This book was a wild ride from the first page until the end. Well written with beautiful and sexy scenes. Lexis did a great job in introducing her characters. I especially love how to introduce DA with a her ex Jerome without romanticizing it like so many books does. And even though the book was so short, I love how the author show the growth of her Deonne and how she with the help of a demon was able to move forward from her abuser. I wished the book was longer with a little more backstory from her main characters but Lexis is a gifted writer and I highly recommend this novella if you are stuck in a reading slump
Well if you want a short erotic romance with a charming incubus that's the one 🔥.
And let's not forget : Ladies and gentlemen, may we present you a book with a Black Heroine 👏👏👏👏
Storyline simple and efficient, smut comes quickly and is steady through the story but still, it's a real short story not just a book filled with smut.
The book is a romance in the sense that they share feelings and care for each other but that's it, no time for "real" romantic build-up.
The spice is 🌶️ spicing 🌶️ but really nothing that would take a gasp out of a smut reader 😂🔥
*********************************************** This book was actually so tender and beautiful. Rafael was a damned angel, I mean what a sweetheart.
Jerome can go straight to hell honestly what a bag of trash. And it's really sad that I recognized the dynamic between Deonne and Jerome instantly. Years ago I too would have been like wait WHY are you supporting an unemployed sack of shit who plays xbox all day and spends your money to buy you gifts (on in Deonne's case, buys side-hoes gfts_ but damn, the pandemic showed me just how easy a semi-loser guy can turn into a Jerome.
Back to Rafael - listen Lexi Esme, we need a series, I need a series because that Rafael is the MMC of my dreams. Can we see that story from his point of view?
Too short!! This is the second book I've read of Esme's and I had high hopes since I adored 'Threads of Fate', but was a bit disappointed. The story felt a bit disjointed and very much rushed. I would rather have a longer book that fleshed out the story more with character development than what we got. Esme, at this time of this review, only has one other book out that I haven't read yet (A Heart for Valentine's Day) and I'm a bit hesitant to read it for fear of being disappointed. I am a huge fan of these supernatural romance stories with a black woman as the protagonist. I'm gonna hope that this is a one-time hiccup and Esme gives us something better.
4.5/5 ⭐️ 10/10🌶 The cover caught my attention, and once I read the description I immediately bought the book on my kindle. The story was short, sweet, and spicy. I will definitely read more of Lexi Esme stories. The only thing that did not make this book 5 stars for me was the ending felt rushed. I wish we could have gotten a few more pages about their trip because it could have potentially dug deeper into the development of Deonne true feelings towards Rafael, and maybe include a quick epilogue of how Deonne and Rafael's day to day life was like afterward the ending. But overall I still really enjoyed this short story, keep up the good work Lexi!!!!
The men in these books are... The kind of red flags I can't get into. I've read all sorts of psychos and loved them, but these heroes are just... They're giving very not healthy vibes. Sex scenes were pretty good, but not enough to overcome how nopey the guys were. I really liked the FMCs, they're giving a good balance of badass and vulnerable.
I'll be keeping an eye out for other books by Lexi Esme, because I can smell the potential. I believe she's got some amazing stories and characters brewing in her and I hope she keeps going!
The way I was so sad when I finished this book because I was really into it. I loved the way that this story was set up. I love that the author throws us right into the story and gives us the motivations for the MC. The romantic scenes are just as great. I wish I had more to the story though- I understood that this was a novella/short story, but I want to know so much. What were the prerequisites for the FMC being the target for the MMC? What changed the MMC's mind about this going from just work to something more? How to half-demon babies work?! I want to see these characters again one day.
Okay this was... not what I expected. On the one hand, it was short and fast to read (something I appreciate since I feel very behind lately on my reading challenge) and it delievered what promised: spice. On the other hand... The dialogue was quite cringey at times and everything happened WAY to fast. Yes I'm aware it is a very short story, but still... There was barely any development in their relationship so I truly don't understand their deep, emotional connection.
I might still recommend reading it if you're looking for something paranormal, very fast and quick to read.
The spice was great 🌶🌶🌶the plot was fast paced and I loved the LM. I liked also that the LF wasnt dumb like she could put two and two together, though her throw care to the wind was a little unsettling at times. I thought there was a bit of a rush with the quickness of their relationship. Jerome was a thorn in my side and was glad how that ended. I just wished it was longer. 😍
This is my first read by this author and I liked it! An easily digestible steamy paranormal romance if you like quirky, monster instalove stories. I enjoyed the story overall but would have preferred a little more character and world building but ultimately I think it delivers what is expected which is a fast, spicy, paranormal romance.
I'm so happy I chanced reading this story. It was not mindless. Had a really nice storyline. I could have done without the boyfriend drama but the rest of the story was good.
