After a long and brutal conflict, the war is over. Otto controls all the portals on the continent and Garenland has made vassals of the other kingdoms. But some people can't accept defeat. While Otto hunts King Villares in Rolan, Axel chases Prince Uther across Straken. With Markane scheming to help their enemies, the future of the New Garen Empire is far from certain. Even worse, the Wizards Guild is challenging Otto for leadership of the empire's wizards and they'll use any means necessary to win. The war may be over, but the battles are far from won.
While I was absolutely in love with the first book, the series has gotten progressively worse. By now our main character has at this point turned into an uncaring asshole, who casually kills thousands and though he says he doesn't enjoy torture, he does does it a little too often with brutal enthusiasm. Worst, his behavior seems glorified as desirable. If not for the clear denomination as hero, I'd think our MC the villain of the story. Won't be reading any more of the series.
This book was darker than the previous entries, but also very understandable as to why. We finally know how the process of becoming an Arcane Lord works, and it makes sense. We also see Otto's full acknowledgment of the path he's on, and a surprising betrayal.
The more I read the more I disliked the main character Otto. I'm done. Bye bye. There is nothing more I want to say. It didn't take 20 words to describe my Disgust
Book It was an awful experience. I kept wanting to try to enjoy the Book but it became nausiating bye bye
This continues the progress of the MC escalating in power and authority. It did feel a little like he can leap into new situations and come out mostly unscathed with allies, but otherwise it is a good read
I've just finished listening to all 7 books of this while I was at work. Although each book gets slightly shorter than the previous one it was still a very long series! It was around 51 hours. I absolutely loved these books. Otto Shenk was a very interesting character and his entire quest for power fascinated me more each book. I was a tiny bit dissatisfied with the ending, but that's how life is! Things don't always end exactly how you expect them to and that's just fine. Anyone interested in reading this book series I absolutely would suggest you do. You won't forget this one!(Copying this onto all 7 books) Thanks James E Wisher.
these are short and with a bunch of cleaning and cooking to be done I managed to get through 2.5 of them in a day. I regret my life decisions. They are all evil crazy characters and the only good solution is the world ending in a ball of fire. I'm still reading though, so I don't know what that says about me.
Another excellent series from James E Wisher. I have the other books in the series so far and they are all excellent. Each book has adventure, suspense, and lots of magic.
That was a ride and a half! Can really start to see something ringing true about Valtan. I'm pretty annoyed he's not dealing with AnnaMaria! I really want her to suffer not so much Abby and the harem idea better come to light, that would be highly entertaining!
Otto is getting more ruthless and feel like he's turning as a villain character. This book completely flip me from rooting for the main character and make me suddenly feel like I'm rooting for Voltan and Uther 😂
The story and the main characters plan are moving forward to his goal .. looks like a new character will emerge in the next book to cause him problems , look forward to following the next phase of his journey .
I started reading this series very recently and am now half way through. Being book captured is soothing and this story is well paced, exciting, and engaging in such a way that anyone can enjoy!
I repeat, only for emphasis, “Highly Recommended!”
I bought this series in 2021. I did alot of traveling and never finished all of the books. Wow. Lots of action and betrayal. Lots of blood and evil people do evil things and sometimes the good guys have to do evil to win.
This is one of the best books in a great series. The characters are well-developed and the story lines are entirely plausible and I found myself coming back for more.
