Witch & Famous
A Westwick Witches Cozy Mystery
By: Colleen Cross
Narrated by: Petrea Burchard
This is an audible book I requested and the review is voluntary.
I love this series. It is crazy and batty with the hair brained aunt that drives me crazy but in this book Cen has two aunts to deal with! Both aunts are witches and are nuts! There is a murder and in front of everyone. The murderer put real bullets in the gun that was suppose to have blanks for the movie. I feel sorry for the sheriff, he is Cen's boyfriend. He has to deal with THREE busybody witches trying to solve the crime! lol
The narrator does great at keeping the voices straight and action flowing. She has the crazy aunt's voice down great...a horrible grating sound just perfect for her personality! lol

I listened to this on audiobook.

I'll be the first to admit that I don't usually read Cozy mysteries, however this four part book series appealed to me because of the Witches and magic contained within said stories. So because of that I decided to give the first book "Witch You Well" a go and I'm very glad that I did. So it was a no brained to continue on with the series.

So book 3 Witch & Famous has probably been my least favourite of the series so far, not sure why, I just didn't get the same feeling as I did with the other two books. It might have been because there was too much going on and far too many new characters which i guess one expects when story is set around a film set. It was full on action and entertaining still though.

I thoroughly enjoyed being reacquainted with the characters of Cen, Pearl, Ruby and the Sheriff again. I wasn't highly keen on aunt Amber who had a bigger part to play in this book, I just didn't gel with her like I did with the other main characters. One thing I really did like thouģh, was that Cen is finally practising her use of spells more, but she's still got a little way to go yet.

So all in all, this has still been a likable story and i am very much looking forward to to reading book 4, which is the last book to the series.

The Characters:

Cendrine West:
:
Aunt Pearl, Aunt Amber, Centrine’s Mother (Ruby?) and Grandmother

The Story:

I’ve ranted about it a lot so I will spare you further torture. Basically I can’t stand Aunt Pearl and she is too wrapped up in the storyline to ignore so I’m quitting the series.

4/5 stars for this witchy cozy mystery!

I received this book in exchange for honest review.

Being book 3 in the series I don't want to give too much away, but Aunt Pearl is back at it again ;) This time we get to see more of Grandma too! Such a fun series, with great characters! If you enjoy a good cozy, give this series a try!

Narration was great!

While I am enjoying the books, I find this book full of inconsistencies. At one point, Cen says that she didn't know where Aunt Pearl was, when a few pages before Cen was watching Pearl lighting drinks on fire; Aunt Amber is staying in Cen's treehouse, but she comes downstairs in the inn with a suitcase .... why would she have a suitcase at the inn if she was staying at the treehouse? And the characters seem to change all the time - Amber is supposed to be the logical witch, but she's as bad as Pearl when wanting attention, and now she's the one complaining about Cen's lack of prowess with witchery.

Aunt Amber has arrived from London to act in a show she's managed to get filmed in Westwick Corners. Of course, a murder happens. The witches get in the way of solving the case, of course. Can Cen help Tyler solve the case before her aunts drive her nuts?

This is my review of the audio version as posted on Audible:

The Westwick Witches series is entertaining, funny, fast-paced and partly crazy and you can't get enough of it:)

As always, Cendrine has to deal not only with a murder at hand but also - or first and foremost - with her irritating, unstoppable aunts who behave like spoilt teenagers, not 60 or 70 years old experienced witches they are:) And it's not only Aunt Pearl this time; Aunt Amber brings in her antics, too - which makes the whole story even crazier and more entertaining...:) I know, I know, too many "smiling faces" in this review, but I can't help it - the book has made me laugh more than once and I am still smiling thinking about Amber's acting career and Pearl's attempts at "helping" with the prompts on set:)

Ms Burchard continues to do a great job with the series; the pace is good and the voices so well-matched to the characters that I can't imagine anyone else reading the books any more. I've already said it before - I love Aunt Pearl's voice best, she's irritating to the point of me wanting to slap her:) but all the other characters are equally real in this wonderful interpretation of the book:)

If you've listened to books 1 and 2 then you probably have a fairly good idea of the hi-jinks that go on in this book. You could read this book as a standalone, but the first two books are so good you'd be missing out by not listening to them, and they'll help fill in some family history.

Aunt Pearl is just as outrageous as normal but in this book she's got a second aunt competing for the role of most disruptive. Cendrine'd family is certainly quirky and they end up in the oddest situations.

This book is another laugh out loud story that you'll be glad you listened to.

The character voices are well done and the delivery was perky, quirky, and a great match for the story.

I received a free copy of this book from the author and/or narrator and/or publisher and I voluntarily wrote this honest review.

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request, and have voluntarily left this review. Aunt Amber brings a movie crew to Westwick Corners and the future is looking bright for the town and the Inn, until there is a murder on the set. Cendrine is trying to help the sheriff solve the murder despite both her aunts acting even crazier than usual. The sheriff's job depends on solving the case fast and all he has is to go on is conflicting eye witnesses and witches getting in the way. Always lots of fun listening to tales of this dysfunctional witch family, as they find themselves in the middle of another murder mystery. A great listen for travelling.

This is my third book in the WWCM series and I've listened to them all pretty close together. They are all really well written and I love all of the characters. The aunts are hilarious and I really like the fact that the heroine Cen is not a very good witch. It makes her more realistic somehow. I like a character with flaws.

This one for me was 4 stars because I wasn't really grabbed by the whole movie set scenario. But I'm sure that's just me so don't let that put you off.

The narrator is superb though - the voices she uses are perfect for the characters.

I can wholeheartedly recommend this series.

Audiobook Review

Hollywood has arrived! Famous faces, cameras, visitors, all arrive & a movie is about to be filmed. Not only that but Aunt Amber is in town & is aspiring to lead with her shining star. Aunt Pearl though is determined to keep herself in the front!
Then the bodies start well appearing!
Cendrine is so patient with her aunts & so is her Mam! How are these all related?
Fab books & audiobooks. I really look forward to the new additions coming out.
Amusing, thrilling, annoying, the characters have it all.

Mayhem when Hollywood came to town.
In this witchy mystery aunt Amber gets a role in a movie and convince the producer to shoot it in their little town. It looks like a great opportunity to bring the town back on the map, but murder put a different kind of limelight on the town.
It’s jet another funny magic story with murder, drama and pyrotechnics.
I truly loves this story and are looking forward to the next one.
The narrator did as amazing job as she has done with the rest of the books.

Audiobook review: Cendrine (Cen) and gang are back and their sleepy little town is hosting a movie shoot. The Westwick witches are caught up in the movie hubbub and fall headfirst into a murder investigation. Shenanigans follow with two of Cen’s aunts and her ghostly grandmother leading the way. The killer was someone that I didn’t expect. The narrator did a nice job. I received a free copy of this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

I'm Ready For My Closeup!

Westwick goes Hollywood in this latest chapter of the Westwick Witches saga. Being a witch may be glamorous and fun, but it doesn't pay the bills; so Aunt Amber entices a director to bring his crew to the sleepy town for some location shooting. Murder and mayhem commence. Petrea Burchard provides an amazing range of voices as she narrates this lighthearted and entertaining tale (which is comfortably standalone).

Magical movie mayhem this time, as Cen has another Aunt to deal with who is out to challenge her and her sleuthing skills!! Aunt Amber is as much of a handful as Pearl plus she thinks in her 60s she is about to become a leading lady in Hollywood. The tale unfolds with a great cast of characters and it definitely provides on the cosy mystery front!
This series is fun, engaging and they make for a relaxing listen with a good narrator.

Set around a movie shoot, where everyone seems to want to be the star, the Westwick Witches are back creating mayhem in this third book. I really enjoyed this book, it was entertaining, amusing, and mad all in one. With two aunts in town there is double the trouble for Cendrine to manage, along with helping to solve a murder. These books are really easy to listen to, the narrator does a great job with the voices and if you want a light amusing listen are to be recommended.

This was another fabulous book by a great author. This next instalment was a film set and now there are 2 crazily funny aunts!! These books really do get better and better. The narrator does a fantastic job with each character, bringing them all to life alongside the great plot. Love it and can’t wait till the next one!

This book was given to me for free at my request and I have provided this voluntary review.

Another great Westwick Witches tale. Hollywood comes to town and somehow Aunt Amber has landed a leading role. Cendrine suspects witchcraft is involved but hopes to land a scoop interviewing the famous actors. When the leading man is murdered there are plenty of suspects but when Aunt Amber is accused Cendrine is determined to find the killer.

This series is just a bunch of inconsistence and confusion. with weak characters to boot.

Then there are the aunts that refuse to act their age and need attention all the time. Very frustrating reading this series.

Cen need to find some courage to stand up for herself and not get all twisted up by her family's innuendos.

This wacky family of witches is driving family member Cendrine and her law enforcement boyfriend crazy enough, but add in a Hollywood film crew, a political minded mayor, and murder and you get sleuthing plus laughter! This is a really good read, and if you get the audio, the narrator does waaaay too good a job on several of the characters (pun intended). The publisher's blurb is somewhat informative and there is no need for spoilers here.

Funny and different

A unique group of characters in a totally different setting. Finally a book with a plot that didn't need heavy breathing and graphic sex every other page to make it sellable. A new favorite author for me.

Enjoyed another one in this series. I liked how there is another wild aunt that Cen needs to rein in with freat effort. How she doesnt lose her cool with all the antics is beyond me. Loved the narrator’s different voices and it surely was enjoyable!

This was a fun book, but sadly the book version contained a very bad editing error, which caused part of the story to be placed later in the book than it should have been. This caused me to be thrown out of the story for a couple of days. Otherwise, it was a fun read, and I would like to read more.

There was entire chapter out of order in the digital copy I read from my library. It is hard to know what is going on when a chapter from the first half of the book gets dumped in the second half.
