Unlike previous books this one doesn’t concentrate just on Bob, but is really three short stories.
The book started by continuing the story to rescue one of Topper’s old friends, this could have been quite interesting, but rather than coming to a conclusion it just sort of fizzled out.
Next followed an expedition to investigate the ‘True’ squirrels, with Lakki and Joshua. This was promising, but to be honest I found the interminable discussions and flirting quite boring.
By the final story I had realised these stories were basically filler and didn’t really go anywhere. I’m afraid I am out of step with the other reviewers, as I didn’t really enjoy this book very much. However I have generously given two stars.

“trifecta” = three books

Well, I’m probably done with BSR. The first third of this book is the continuation of the cliffhanger from the last book, but “ends” in its own cliffhanger. Then the story unceremoniously shifts to a completely different scene, with a different narrator. Not Bob! Not even a human. One of the characters I don’t particularly like. That goes on for a depressingly long string of pages…I only skimmed them. Then the narrative shifts again, and the narrator is Dingus. At least I like him. But everything is the same as in Bob-land, even the jokes.

I’m not gonna try to keep up with a (probably increasing?) number of story lines when none of them are keeping my interest. Goodbye, Bob & Nikki. Been nice knowing ya.

I love this series. Bob is Everyman+, a former factory maintenance man who is thrust into the role of Admiral of the Fleet for Bob's Saucer Repair. His motley crew grows every book. After 26 of them readers wouldn't be blamed if they felt like their favorite characters weren't getting enough time on stage. So what does Jerry do? He makes Book 27 a trifecta - a collection of three stories with different characters to narrate each. Brilliant!

In this book, we start with the search for Zelda. She's the bot that Topper has been seeking for years. That's a typical Bob-centered story. But wait, it gets better.

The middle story follows the search for the True Squirrels, and Joshua (or Jossi) tells the story. Mr Boyd has him narrate in a similar but different style from Bob's narration.

The third story is the mission to find the home of the "Small people" who left thousands of years ago. This one is narrated by Dingus, and Mr Boyd finds yet another narrative voice for this part of the story.

I don't know whether this will be a recurring theme, but it's certainly an effective way to deal with a huge cast of characters when they can't all get into the same scene. I often lament to myself that I don't see John as often as we did in the early books. I see him in my mind as Robert Sean Leonard, who played James Wilson on House MD. No logic for it, but that's who I see. This isn't a complaint about the books. When you have a big cast somebody is going to miss their favorites sometimes. Authors have enough trouble telling the story without having to deal with our michegas.

I always want to read the next book right after I finish one. Pace yourself, Jerry Boyd, and I'll practice patience myself.

Another fun book in this series. After 26 books, Jerry Boyd gave me something new... Chapters! Admittedly there were only three, but I loved how Boyd handled it. The ships of Bob's Saucer Repair had been involved in three different missions. All the books to this point have been first person accounts as told through the eyes of Bob. This time he continued with the first person accounts, but this time he gave them to us from the perspective of Bob, Joshua and Dingus. I thought it was very successful and really advances the story line. I am very eager to read book 28 to find out what happens next. These books are just plain fun. They're action packed and yet not overly violent and pretty clean as well. They are a true serial though so your best bet is to come aboard by reading book one, Bob's Saucer Repair.

Great Fun

The title for this installment highlights the triple focus for the storyline, or should I say, storylines. Previous books have always focused on Bob and Nikki and this book gives the reader a short view into two other pairs, Joshua and Haffi, and Dingus and Dee. It is a delightful departure from previous books and makes this installment an enjoyable departure from the typical. Using singular focus, the book follows each couple on their various journeys. As always, the book ends sooner than the reader wants, leaving an expectation for the next book.

Great New Format!

Jerry changed things up this time by adding two stories from the perspective of 2 different characters that have been part of the regular series. They are both on missions for the fleet. This adds breadth and depth to these characters and the characters that they interact with. I have thoroughly enjoyed the great entertainment that Jerry brings to his word smithing, but the whole series has benefited from this new format.
Now when is Snitz going to get his debut? 😇

When I realized the author was breaking my fun story to change venues, I was not happy. Like a child, don't you change my... Wait...

When I ripped through the book, and went right back to the beginning to re-read it withOUT that silly bias, I realized he's really into something. I really enjoyed the other characters leading up.

Mr. Boyd : try harder to change your writing style a bit in the parts, that each character's perception/dialog/turns-of-phrase really become unique!

This was definitely one of the better of the series, and whgolly recommended!

I enjoyed the changed format of this entry in the series

The changing of the narrator to be that of Bob’s long-time neighbour who had to regrow the tail that his society of tail-less squirrels had docked in infancy so that he could undertake a mission to the territory of the true squirrels gave this story an extra freshness and the narrative switch in the last 1/4 of the book to the ship of Bob’s grandfather in law could have been a bit jarring if it had not been handled so deftly.

A fun, safe series, no graphic violence

These books are great for times when you want an easy and entertaining story. There's not much to get offended by, as long as silliness is acceptable to you. This would be safe for teenagers to adults; sex is al!uded to but not described. The situations aren't vaguely realistic, so theres no danger of nightmares. Sort of like comic books, only longer and without pictures.

Gets better with each book

The first book was enjoyable and humorous. Very much appreciated. The writing (he said, she said) and some repeats was a little less impressive. Truth to be told, it is still enjoyable and humorous and writing is way better. Bob still wakes up because of his dog licking his ears . . Keep up the good work!

different but in a good way

This next book in the series is different in that is three separate stories which still move the story forward but gives you more insight into individuals that we’ve seen before but don’t generally spend as much time with. I liked it I thought it was a good change

A different point of view served in this book.

When told from other viewpoints, the story seemed to lag a bit but friendly neighbors is a lot better than having to fight every time. I always worry that Mr. Boyd has told his last story. That said, in hope that I'm wrong, I will be awaiting the rest of the story!

It took me a while to figure out the trifecta part.

It was nice hearing from the other Captain's perspective. I wish I had a BS ship ,but nothing has changed since I was 8 and read " Have space suit will travel ". I have trying to learn the lovely banter to try out on my wife and She's wondering what the heck is going wrong with me. Can't wait for next install ment.

Another relaxed and entertaining installment

The pace and progress of the series have have slowed, but the characters remain engaging and totally familiar, like long trusted friends. Start at the beginning of the series to have a chance of understanding the interactions at this point, but you won't regret the time invested. This is a very relaxing read, jump in!

Loved it

It was good to get a little more in depth of some of the other characters, I knew the major ones but even them I got a little more depth on. I`ve loved this series from the beginning. Every time I think its finished Mr Boyd pulls another tale out of his hat. Thank you sir

Nice Experiment

This one takes a different approach than usual, jumping to other characters to tell the stories without forcing Bob to jump into the action. The result expands the setting and retains character competence. Good stuff.

WOW

This one has 3 separate stories about Bobs fleet and gives more info on the crew that make up a small part of it. If you've read the other books in the story line you need to read this one.

Great read

I look forward to each new installment of Bob and Nikki. I like all the characters - which they are. Only one issue, chapters. I like chapters, it gives good stopping places. But if you don't want to go with chapters I'll manage, just keep the stories coming.

Good continuing story

Not a barn burner, nice slice of life story. Author should go do a story or two with deep rich visualization cause he has gotten so used to his settings that he is leaving out that part.

Three stories in one volume

The first story is about Bob and the usual crew. The second story features the Squirrels and in the third story Dingus and his crew have an adventure. All three are well written and great fun.

Three shorts

Somehow three short novellas are not as satisfying as the usual Boyd novel. Perhaps because each story ends abruptly, leaving the reader wanting more, the whole book feels incomplete.

Plain entertaining

I love these books. Simple entertainment, funny and addictive. I can’t wait for each new episode to come out and often break off reading another book to read about the new adventures of Bob & Nikki and BSR. They just refresh my mind for the next trek through a nonfiction or so. Keep them coming!

the little people

Loved the new race that captain Sloan finally met. The authored interaction gave their characters a sense of trustworthiness and charm that hadn’t been seen outside of BSR. Hope to hear from them again.

Anyone who's a fan of Bob's Saucer Repair, this is just another chapter in the ongoing saga. Personally found it better than the last (#26). The hook's firmly set, so I'll be reading the next one too.
