I'm Marquette Sanders, and I used to be one of the top agents for the Crown Magika. But an unexpected accident sidelines me and my world turns upside down. Now, I'm living in the shadow town of Terameth Lake, Washington, where magic and mayhem rule, and spirits from the past are as powerful as the volcano that looms over the town.
I've moved in with Granny Ledbetter, my goddess-mother and the oldest witch in town. I'm working at her shop, Shadow Magic, which serves the witchblood community. When a tarot client turns up dead, drained of all her blood, she's just one in a string of killings. The police think a rogue vampire's turned serial killer, but I know better—rogue vampires are my specialty and they don't act like that. Dagda Bruin—the chief of police—enlists my help. Now we must find out who and what the actual killer is, before the body count skyrockets.
This series is Paranormal Women's Fiction. It's NOT a cozy series. *grins* For those who love my quirky humor, scary-assed stories, and who don't mind that some of my characters swear like a trucker.

Wow, this book was a fantastic read that once I started reading I could not put down. It moves along at a pace that is perfect for the flow and direction of this story. The characters are amazing and you cannot help but love them. You want to be there with them no matter what they need to do or happens. This book is a must read that needs to be at the top of your TBR list, there is no doubt about it.
Marquette Sanders was once one of the top agents for the Crown Magika, but a horrible accident has her retiring to a small shadow town in rural Washington with her goddess-mother. A recent murder in the area stumps the police, and the chief enlists Marquette for help. The body count is rising fast, and they need to find out what's killing folks or someone she loves could be next.
This is the first book in the wonderful paranormal women's fiction series, Magic Happens, and I'm hooked! Marquette is a tough witch and has been through a lot. She's not without her scars--both physically and mentally. She's been around and there's no fluff to her thoughts, which I really do like. She works at Granny Ledbetter's magic shop in the supernatural town of Terameth Lake. The non-humans aren't hidden in this world, but they do tend to keep to themselves. When the gorgeous bear shifter and chief of police, Dagda Bruin comes to Marquette for help, she can't resist. She may have had to retire because of her debilitating injury, but she still wants to save people from supernatural threats. The whole cast of characters is fantastic. Granny makes me laugh, and I really want to cuddle the kittens. Good red herrings and very cool reveal for the murderer. Lots of action and a little bit of a cozy feel. I have a feeling this series will stretch bigger than a cozy though, and I'm excited to get my hands on the next book.
Book 1 in the Magic Happens series by Yasmine Galenorn is just this... Magical! When Marquette Sanders , Order of the Moon hunter, loses her career over an injury, she starts life over in the town of Terameth Lake. Living with her goddess mother, Granny Ledbetter , is an adjustment for a few weeks. Then life takes a turn when a client of Shadow Magic , where Marquette is employed , is found murdered. Enlisted by the police to aid the investigation due to her experience , Marquette learns that something awful has come to town. She puts her knowledge , magic, and general kick ass skills into play. Powerful book; absolutely loved it, and can't wait to read the next one. Warning... Once you pick up this book, you won't want to put it down. Welcome to the world of Galenorn... Kitties abound, as do all kinds of supernatural and witchy beings!
I love Yasmine's books and most of them rate 4 & 5's for me. This book rates at 3.5
Like always she does an awesome job at world-building and since this world is in the same world as some of her other series, she is only adding to the world-building she has already started. So why is it a 3.5 you ask? Because like I'm not sure how I feel about Marquette yet, I know I'm going to like her eventually because by the end my feelings were friendlier but I didn't really like her at first so I had a hard time getting through some of the story. But that's a me thing, not Galenorn's writing, that was great as always.
I am loving these shadow towns that Galenorn has been doing! This time we have a bad ass woman who is used to kicking butt and making things happen. In this first book we got more of the character ground work for the series. Unlike the other series in this one we have a character who at this point doesn't have a love interest and is instead trying to establish herself in a new beginning. I am excited to see what happens in the next book. Hopefully we get to learn more about this character and her powers. Also, the kitties in this book are adorable!
The book kind of surprised me. It was interesting get me on my toes when she hast to retire from the agency she’s working at she thought her life was over that she knew she had a new journey to take. Coming back to the town for her roots were she learns to make friends and have pets and solves mysteries.
I normally suffer from book hangovers, and I wasn't really sure how I felt about this new series. But it ended up surprising me. I enjoyed it very much. I love the characters and I really can't wait to see how they grow. I'm anxious to see what this series has in store. A paranormal mystery is exactly what we need right now. Especially a good one!
This is another great start to a new series, loosely linked to a couple of others but with a new shadow town and set of characters. Friendships are building as people rebuild themselves into new lives. I look forward to see where Marquette and the rest of Terameth Lake goes.
If you are looking for a book to ‘chilax’ with then this series starter is just the job. There is nothing new in the background to the story but both the character and world building are good and just right for switching off before closing your tired eyes. Book two is awaiting me.
When life gives you lemons it's best to make something else out of it. The author begins this series with some background & our heroine has had the stuffing belt out of her. The story weaves around & by the end we can see Fate has something new in store for our heroine.
Enjoyed reading this one it had a bit of everything from the main character going through an injury and loosing her job of many years, to going through grief from loosing her husband, moving back to her home town and helping an investigation that otherwise could have gone unsolved lots of magic and friendship ♡
There is a magik in the writing, from the beginning. It draws you into the Pacific Northwest, the land, the forests, the smells of autumn. The town and characters become real, can't wait for the next book.
Another hit out of the park for Ms. Galenorn. Her characters just keep getting better and these shadow towns are fantastic! So much depth and comradery. So if you love coffee, kitties, and adventure you'll love this new series.
I have read all of her fiction books and I am not disappointed with “Shadow Magic.” The mix of life happens with finding new ways to use old skills and make a new life appeals to my inner adventurer. Love Yasmine’s writing!
never fails to entertain my brain! This was another fantastic story. The characters are so well written, and the worlds are so expansive. She really makes you feel like you are there watching it all unfold!
I really liked this book. It was a lot like real life with ups and downs. It was a bit dark with light at the end. I loved all the characters and the place they live.
When life hands you lemons, make lemonade. Pushed out of the best and only job she'd ever had was tough, but she found purpose, friends, and a new beginning.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book, great storyline, fantastic characters, it has everything you could want in a book, mystery, magic, murder and magic cats
I very much enjoyed this book. She is a new to me author, but I look forward to reading more of this series. I think I would enjoy some of her other series also.
