This is a truly well-written, powerful series that deals with mature themes and situations. I was really looking forward to this latest book and wasn't disappointed.

This time, Douglas sets much of the action in the past, as Cailleach (the winter goddess) and allies battle her evil sibling, Arawn, the dark lord of the underworld. What happened in 3rd century BC Scotland is directly causal to events in the present day.

I particularly like the richly developed roster of characters and the conflicting panoply of emotions and purposes that is one of the author's true strengths. She ends the book with a surprising revelation, but I won't spoil the plot! My only slight quibble is I would have wished to see more of the action depicted from the main character's perspective; instead she's absent for much of the story. But I get that Douglas is building to an exciting series conclusion in the next book and can't wait for it to arrive in 2023!

(Note: I received an advance reader copy of this book and this is my honest review.)

If you're looking for a book that's fast pace, will keep you on the edge of your seat and have you wanting more, this is a must read!

Once again we are spoilt with Corina's talent to take you on an emotional roller coaster ride as you venture down the duel story line of past and present, and are blind sided by twist after twist. Disgust, guilt, love, panic, relief, arousal, empathy, shock, this book has it all! The book had me physically laugh out loud, sit up with surprise, shed tears of loss and more. Believe me, as always, this book will not disappoint.

Didn’t see THIS coming!!

Corina Douglas continues her dramatic continuation of the “Daughter of Winter” series in Winter’s Reign. Just when you think you know where the story is going, she throws you a curve ball.
Douglas takes the reader through the complexities of her characters, focusing on the events that have defined each one’s actions and lives.
The reader is pulled into a myriad of emotions throughout the story.
I’ll be excited and saddened when “Winter’s Legacy” is released, as I will miss these characters.

Heart Racing Page Turning Fantasy Romance OMGoodness!!! I stayed up all night reading. Ms. Douglas does such a wonderful job with world-building and character-building. I'm actually, glad that there is a book 7, and will be more than a little sad when the series is finished. I have grown attached to the characters even the evil ones. I hope Ms. Douglas has more Celtic fantasy stories taking over her brain and she'll keep spinning new tales.

Can’t wait for the final book!

The 6th installment of Brydie’s story brings us a step closer to the final battle. Somehow, even in this 6th book, Corina weaves in plot twists you don’t see coming and the reader is once again left on the edge of her seat to see how the saga will end. Like the books that came before it, I finished Winter’s Reign in one night and can’t wait for the final book in this saga!

I like the development of characters, how storylines weave and knit together in unexpected twists and turns and long awaited questions get answered. So this installment fits nicely into the overall story line of the other 5+ books in the series.
I used to like the present day story line more but after this book there is stuff in there that makes it hard to decide if I still stick to that preference. Probably part of that is getting to know more about the diverse and wonderfully complex relationships between Cailleach’s siblings and their role towards the finale.
So, some interesting developments kept me engaged reading this longer book - which I loved - and the cliff hanger in the end has me again filled with excitement for the next book.

Fast-paced, emotionally gripping dark steamy suspenseful romance

All the threads are coming together! Eek! And there is a huge plot twist! What?! I did not see that coming, but it makes total sense once you realize who is who. No spoilers here, but Douglas again knocked it out of the park. I didn't even notice the length until I looked back and saw how many pages I'd read. Can't wait for the final book! It can't come fast enough!

Enriched and Enchanting

I loved the format of this story with most of the historical battle first and interspersed with furthering of the present story. Looking forward to the final installment of this epic dark tale.

"Knowledge is power, especially when the present is reliant on happenings of the past."

I think this is my favorite line in this series. I love how relevant it is to everything around us.

So does it mean that Drust is now evil? I don't understand. Is Talorgan still the evil druid or is it now Drust?

I love how this book is teaching us that choosing to kill your comrades is not an act of evil, instead it is mercy. I love how they're being realistic about how decisions are made when it comes to war.

You know what, I actually understand where Ian is coming from. I know what he did was horrible but you have to understand that because of that bloody prophecy, that he did not even want, it caused him a lot of things.

Well, I don't like that guy who calls himself the God of Thunder. He's such a fucking asshole.

Maybe the reason why Nora told everyone that her son doesn't have magic is because she knows his ancestry. And the reason why he left and never tell his mother about his child's existence is because of the same thing.

She's the bastard of the king.

Can someone tell me when is the next book going to be out? I can't wait for the conclusion of this series. The plot twist in this book is something I never expected since reading the first book.

Just what I needed!

This entire series has been wonderful! The twists and turns, the spice, even the cliffhangers I enjoy.

I’ve really enjoyed the multiple points of view and how the entire story has woven together pristinely from past to present.

I can’t wait for the final book!

I loved the sixth book in the Daughter of Winter series. Such a wonderful fusion of past and present timelines creatively realized across the entire series. I am delighted a seventh book is on the way. If you love dark fantasy romance on an epic scale, you'll love this entire series. Highly recommended!!!

This book was ling, extremely repetitive, very annoying characters, and I thought this was the last book and it’s not… there is one more. So I don’t even have a conclusion.

Ian - him turning bad guy is like what? There was no connection between him and Brydie to begin with so why he acts like she led him on is crazy.. and he turned into acting like a child and just plain stupid storyline.

Gage - we get it - you’re a jealous annoying mean dude. I don’t need to hear in every POV how you “claim” her and don’t want anyone with her .. like she’s chosen you dude.. stop being a jealous prick. It’s annoying af.

This whole book was summing up the previous 5 books .. I did not want to finish this book. I’m upset I’m wasting my time with this series.

I didn’t know what to expect when I started reading this series, but WOW!!!! There are a lot of books based off of Greek and Norse Mythology but this series is all about Scottish Folk Lore and it was absolutely amazing.
I do like how the book jumps between the pass and the present so you get all the back story along with how things are playing out in the present.
This series has Gods, Druids, Fae, Selkies. Based off of Prophecy that has been brought on by jealousy and revenge that has lasted 2000 years. 7th and final book comes out 2024 sometime and I can’t wait to see how this story ends.

I am so glad I'm finished with this book. That sounds harsh, but it dragged on and on. I felt like no progress was made with the story line, everything stalled for an info dump of the past. I get it, the past is important in this series, and up until this book I enjoyed the little snippets. I was so close to DNFing this book. And it's not the last in the series! The next book isn't out, but I don't think I'll be reading it. I pushed on and on through this series to get to the end and I feel like I've officially given up on it.

Had to DNF 😭. I just hated how NOT focused on the main characters it was. I'm all for timeline jumps, and I made it through the first 5 books without an issue, but I got 49% of the way through this book and it feels like nothing in the main storyline has moved. I wanted to muscle my way through for the sake of finishing it, but my brain will NOT let me.

lovely concept, maybe not the greatest execution...

Waiting for the last installment

This one took a bit to read. But I'm glad I made it through. I love this story, but I am sad to see that it has been years since this one was released and there is no word on the final book's release. The story so far has been engaging and well paced, but it does ramble on at times. It's obvious by the 3rd book that there are a lot of parallels between the timelines. I just want to know where it goes from here.

The ENDing the gods fearing ending. I cringe died with the revelation and then the end of the books, the words stop coming, and book 7 isn't out yet. I couldn't believe where the book ended. if I had a physical copy I would have thrown it across the room, it was so good, and not at all what I saw coming. absolutely amazing. Living rent free in my head since finished

Really great series. I started them because I wanted a completed series to read, although you find out she decided to add another book. By the second book in I was hooked. It was interesting reading about gods and goddesses I had never heard of before. Looking forward to the final book!

I have really mixed feelings about this whole series so far. I don’t really like the first two, they felt like it should have been one book because they both went over a lot of basics for the rest of the story. And I don’t just mean how the magic systems work the whole first book is just getting to Scotland, barely any real movement is n the modern story. I loved books 3-5 because things were moving and the stories twisted together nicely with the two timelines but by book 6 they are completely out of sync.

All the the positive reviews for this book that I saw said this book is fast paced and I completely disagree. This is the slowest book of the series and it doesn’t answer anything in a satisfying manner. I mean in the last book Ian betrayed everyone and almost got a kid killed and has been lying to everyone for months and in this book they see him for like half a chapter and he blames the jilted love he has for Brydie. That this point it’s been months and like dude you barely kissed and I get the whole conflict originally started with obsession but every time we saw you on page for three books it mentions it.

My biggest issue with this one though is the lack of modern timeline. There is no Brydie POV until like 100 pages in and then it’s all just recap of what happened last book. She is trying to control her power, learn about her heritage, secure alliances, nurse her friend back to heath, and plan a war. She has like maybe 8 chapters, one of which is all smut. I actually love that big reason I’m reading this series but now I’m very interested in the plot and getting no answers and am mad about it.

Also Logan has been possessed for two books and you just figured it out with the help of the all powerful kid that only gets mentioned at the end of the last three books even though Gage being a dad is a big deal to him and constantly brought up. You went across the world to get your son and kept him safe that please actually interact on page

Sorry about the rant but I need the next book now

I was disappointed because I liked this series thus far, but this one is unnecessarily dragging on about the battles. I do appreciate jumping POVs during a battle, but this was too much, I got really bored.
At one point I was wondering if somehow a wrong version was available on Amazon (I bought it for kindle and as a set of all 6 books).
This reader doesn't need to be spoon fed every single feeling a character has for every single character about the same event. It's like a minute-by-minute recount. I can see how that might be interesting - even necessary - from a writer's POV. Not the reader's, though. Plus the book has typos, character mix ups (Loch and Lonc) around the middle/end. I can forgive 1 or 2 but there were much more.
I will say that the last 50-80 pages the plot does pick up and interesting things start happening again. The last book could (hopefully) become this one's redemption.

The better written of the lot

This book was a struggle to read. Not sure why, as I felt like this was the first book that sounded more mature in the overall writing. Now I am more annoyed I'm the description that it is not listed that this series is incomplete. There is no information as to when the final book is coming out, no indication there is expected to be 7 books. It seems like a lot to wrap up after the series has dragged on for 6 books. I have to read a series over again when a new book comes out to remember all of the details but I know I won't be able to stomach reading over again. Do yourself a favor and wait for the series to be complete before you start this. I was so excited to read Celtic lore but I am not sure this hit the mark.glad the last 2 books was better written. Maybe I will be able to read the 7th, who knows when it comes out.
