Magic. Power. Secrets. And a passion that could burn us all. I thought our trip to Rockfall would be dangerous, but it’s turned out far more perilous than I imagined. Rixon and I are here to protect the pass between Raeria and Carth, but there’s more lurking in the shadows than I bargained for. Rixon’s past? A ticking time bomb just waiting to go off. And me? My powers are shifting in ways I can’t begin to understand. That’s not even the worst of it. I thought I could handle the demon threat, but what I’ve uncovered is far darker. A twisted magic that doesn’t just leave a mark on the world, it leaves a mark on me. And that price? It’s steep. Each time I use it, the consequences get heavier. I can feel it. See it. The power is alive, and it’s asking me to choose: accept it and its damnable consequences, or let Raeria fall. And then there’s Rixon. The heat between us is impossible to ignore. But even passion can’t protect us from the darkness crawling closer. The more I use this cursed power, the higher the cost. I’m left wondering, can I control it without losing everything? Because if I fall, I might just take the man I love with me. Wielder’s Might is the third book in the Lady Witch Series. Its spicy, heart-pounding tension and perilous magic will keep you turning pages. Warning: This series contains explicit sexual content suitable for audiences 18+, adult language, and some demon-slaying violence.
Melissa Mitchell is a fantasy romance author best known for her seven-book Dragonwall series.
She fell in love with fantasy at a young age after discovering The Dragonriders of Pern, and she’s been chasing dragons, magic, and epic love stories ever since. Her books often feature beloved tropes like hidden royalty, slow-burn romance, and the undeniable tension of only one bed.
When she’s not writing, Melissa holds a PhD in physics and works as an optical engineer. She lives in Atlanta, Georgia with her husband, a husky, and four very spoiled bunnies. She also enjoys baking cookies, bullet journaling, and figure skating—usually while thinking about her next book.
SYNOPSIS: Every witch needs a wielder. Mina and Rixon have arrived in Rockfall only to find an unexpected surprise—one that threatens to expose Rixon’s identity. Left with an ultimatum, Mina must make safe the pass connecting Raeria to Carth. What they discover brings more questions than answers.
MY THOUGHTS: This was the last book that is currently out in the Lady Witch series and it took me forever to finish this book because I have serious issues and when I love a series I really do not want them to end. However, I dedicated October to finish all my open series and decided that I need to take that step, be brave and just dive into it.
This book did not disappoint! I love Mina and Rixon so much, we get more insight in their relationship, we see how they both grow together and trust each other which makes my achy heart heal! We learn little bit more about the new dark power that Mina has now, and what does it cost her. I just love love love the dedication that Rixon has to Mina, and that nothing throws him off.
We get little more court drama, which was a nice addition and cannot wait to see where the next book will take us (keeping my fingers crossed for a palace ;)! ).
There was one point in the book that I got a small heart attack but I survived it! So get ready for it. The book ends in a good spot, that will not make you throw it against the wall but it will leave you craving for the next books in the series! THANK YOU Melissa for thinking about your readers and their mental health!
The spice! its fantastic. Mina is exploring her sexuality with Rixon who is more experienced and I am here for it. I love her trust in him and also herself!
If you have not read the series yet, you need to read it now!
What an amazing end to this trilogy! I absolutely love these novellas!
What a satisfying ending. There was plenty of action, mystery, and scenes behind closed doors. I think it is a true skill to make such a spicy book (basically erotica) and have an actual good plot thrown in as well.
The best part is that even though this is the end of a great trilogy, there is more to come in the future. I fell in love with the protagonists and I want more of their story. Especially since there is a cliffhanger that made me mad and excited.
Overall, I highly recommend this series. Since they are novellas they are pretty quick reads. They are also very helpful during a reading slump.
Wielder’s Bond by Melissa Mitchell is the third book of the Lady Witch series, and is a new adult romantic fantasy that focuses on characters with a unique underlying plot. Every witch is bonded to a wielder and the story picks up when Aramina and Rixon arrive at their original destination - the fort/outpost they were assigned to by then high Witch. Dual POVs and now down to a single timeline. Tropes include one bed, she’s morally grey and bodyguard (sort of). Do check trigger warnings before reading, and this is an adults only book.
The Lovely: Pretty much the same loves as the prior books - excellent characters, plot and tension. The main characters are so sweet and perfect for each other. I loved Mina’s surprising development in this book - I like a FMC, in particular, who isn’t perfect. I did see one of the smaller plot twists coming. I can’t get over how much story and development the author fits into just over 250 pages. There was a nice setup for the next trilogy without there being a cliffhanger, which I greatly appreciate.
The Mundane: My only meh item was I felt like some (not all) of the spice scenes were getting repetitive. I think some of those could have been switched to tender/angst/emotional scenes, especially when the FMC learns about the MMC’s past. Given how close they are, and given their prior trust issues, if I was her I would have been so much angrier.
The Dreadful: Nothing
Rating: 5/5 Stars 4/5 flames
Recommendation: I’m so sad I’ve finished all the books in this series that have already been released. Book hangover. The characters and the storytelling just make this an enjoyable and easy read. If you like high fantasy with witches and monsters, and a lot of spice with a fun relationship, I think you would like this book. My understanding is this book was the third book of the first trilogy in the series and that there will be at least another trilogy.
The last book in the first trilogy of Mina's and Rixon's adventures... Wow, what a lovely witchy read! I'm super happy I found the first book, Wielder's Prize, on Netgalley and had an amazing experience reading this trilogy. Read it in one sitting, like the previous books. (:
Tropes - Witchy theme - Demons and medieval setting - Smut - Outpost to outpost adventures - Who hurt you?
Spice rating 3/5 🌶️
"Every witch needs a wielder."
It only got better per book which doesn't happen often! There was way more fantasy than romance in this book than there was in the previous books and I was so surprised about finding out who Rixon really is. I also found out about a dark power lingering inside Mina and how she's discovering her new self, that was really interesting to read. How she handled it was super badass and inspiring!
For the characters, a new person who joined the gang: Jessin. I absolutely love the guy. He was the typical annoying best friend and would almost vomit over Rixon's clinginess with Mina haha. I really loved his funny remarks and how he was treating Mina really nicely. Of course Rixon, being the typical possessive but sweet male he is, he's just amazing. I do hope there are more side characters that are friends of Rixon or Mina but looking at the plot for now it's understandable because they got bonded for their assignment at Rockfall.
The only negative thing I have to mention is that the spice got a little repetitive at the end and wasn't as enjoyable to read anymore.
To wrap it up, Melissa did an amazing job with this trilogy and created a world for us readers to lose ourselves in, thank you so much for that! If you haven't started reading this trilogy then please start doing so because I guarantee you it won't disappoint.
At this point, it really should not come as a surprise that I loved Wielder’s Might. I mean how can you not when the writing is fantastic, the plot is filled with gripping tension, and the romance keeps getting better and better.
As always, the writing is incredible. It's so easy for me to forget that I'm reading a book because it really feels like I’m a part of the story. Mina and Rixon’s journey continues and again the world expands, especially once we find out exactly what secret Rixon has been keeping and the implications of that secret. There are hints of political intrigue and I can only hope that we get more in the coming books!
We are able to see Mina really come into her own in this book. She has this new power and while she has been hesitant to use it, we see her embracing all of who she is. Mina is consistently doing what she can for those around her and is always willing to take charge. She is truly a badass! Of course, by her side, is Rixon being the protective alpha male that he is. I really love Rixon. He knows how strong Mina is and lets her be while at the same time protecting her without smothering her. What's not to love about a male who doesn’t overshadow his female. It’s obvious his main priority is Mina and it's enough to make you melt.
Melissa did a fantastic job of ending this first part of the series in a place where I felt both satisfied with the ending but also excited for what is to come! I am looking forward to more books in this series.
🌶️ 🌶️ 🌶️ /5 ooo la laaaa, just what mommy needed on a cold winter evening ;)
I’ve loved watching Mina and Rixon’s relationship develop and strengthen alongside Mina’s growing power and confidence. I’ve loved their progression across Reira and, even though the romance is central to the overall plot, there’s still a really strong external plot that kept me devouring pages late into the night. There were parts in the book where I was trying not to skip and stumble over words in my rush to find out what happens next.
It’s been a grueling journey so far. Mina and Rixon have finally reached Rockfall, the assignment given in Book 1. Only there’s intrigue afoot of a non demonic flavor. Low and behold the Crown’s soldiers are stationed there, too. Dun dun duuuun. Which means Rixon’s secret spills out soon after arriving, and Daddy dearest (cough, cough, the mutha fluffing big daddy of Reira) probably knows where his wayward heir has been slumming all these years and where he is RIGHT NOW. Most importantly, Mina finally finds out who he really is.
So, yeah, Mina has a lot on her trencher: The king’s general’s a spymaster bastard is making her skin crawl, her inner demon magic is running amok, the demon numbers are out of control, and there’s a rift somewhere nearby. No biggie.
I devoured this book in a matter of hours. The banter, the chemistry, and the demon threat all made for an edge-of-my-seat experience. A very quick and satisfying read that doesn’t leave a reader dangling from a cliff screaming curses at the author. (I might have uttered some Hail Marys though). Most of the threads tied up nicely with only a few left like bread crumbs of delicious promise.
I’ve loved the shorter, novella style books. It’s fast-paced that packs in both story and pleasure 😜
Mina and Rixon finally make it to the destination, to find not all is as they expected.
We discover more about who Rixon truly is. Honestly, it was pretty predictable but still. I LOVED the addition of him reuniting with his best friend! Best friend characters are also the best and most witty! lol.
Spice was kicked up even more in this book, not sure how that’s possible but I do love the true love between Mina and Rixon. They both love each other despite so many circumstances happening and their pasts, presents, or futures to come. Something dark is brewing inside Mina and to Rixon, he would join her in the darkness rather than lose her. It’s true devotion you feel from these 2 and I love it!
Right… the sexy times are less but they are bound (pun intended) and determined to be more adventurous. Fine. Shocking that Rixon’s secret is out. Really shocking that the general is a not a good person or that Rixon’s childhood friend is around. I am utterly stunned (yes, there’s some sarcasm here). Rixon still has daddy issues and yes, his father is horrible. I know this was surprise to yiu as well 🙄
However there is more plot in this book and now I’m sucked into the mystery of the creation of the rift, what’s going on with Carth, and what the new demon is. Also play around with demon magic, Mina, and it will affect you. I’m just saying.
The story really does get better…I am enjoying the character growth. The finger banging is still a little much. Like thank goodness she isn’t susceptible to UTIs.
The overuse of the word “crinkle” continues to plague the characters faces. I think even the horse crinkled at one point. I wonder if there is a hidden message behind all the crinkling…alas, I doubt I will ever find the reason.
