Nyx is a badass, trans woman. And every vampire's, and supernatural killer’s, worst nightmare.
Theophilus Monroe is a fantasy author with a knack for real-life characters whose supernatural experiences speak to the pangs of ordinary life. After earning his Ph.D. in Theology, he decided that academic treatises that no one will read (beyond other academics) was a dull way to spend his life. So, he began using his background in religious studies to create new worlds and forms of magic-informed by religious myths, ancient and modern-that would intrigue readers, inspire imaginations, and speak to real-world problems in fantastical ways.

This Author has not disappointed me yet in his writing. He brings so much passion to his characters and don't forget how he puts in parts that will have you rolling on the floor. So please read and accept our LGBTQ community they sometimes have it all. Nicky has her club, but now people are dying, what will Nyx do? Don't worry I'm not going to say anything else don't want to ruin your reading. Now to wait for the next book. :(

This is book three of The Legend of Nyx series and sees Nicky looking to hire some new back-up singers for her club and Devin has arranged for three young women to come in for an audition. The women are Amelia, Katie and Rose. Katie is over confident and pushy about her talent, whereas Rose is best at operatic arias which are not quite what Nicky’s club is about, and then the shy and timid looking Amelia. She listens to each of the girls sing and offers Amelia the chance to open for her that night, as her other main singer Geraldo had to leave suddenly after a death in his family. Katie seems quite jealous of Amelia, voicing that it should have been her to have the first chance to sing, but Nicky takes on all three and offers them the chance of being regular back-up singers and to open for her and Geraldo at times. Amelia opens up for Nicky and she asks the other two girls to take in the atmosphere in the club and see her act as well. Nicky notices her young charge Malinda is hanging around the bar with an unsuitable character and decides to speak to her later. But the evening doesn’t end smoothly, as one of the girls ends up dead in the car park, with no apparent cause. It wasn’t a vampire as there are no marks on their body, but her sidekick Felix, from her Neck days, enters the dead body to examine it and declares that the girl’s soul has been taken! What sort of creature or monster could steal someone’s soul, is a new one for Nicky and she asks for help from Dr Cain and others and is lead to the conclusion, especially from one of her dreams, that the Grimoire of the Nazarene is involved and Mina from the Order of the Morning Dawn is desperate to obtain it, so she can call forth angels to kill all of those she and others deem unacceptable! Her dream of the Nazarene gives her vague clues on how to destroy the Grimoire, to stop the chance of anyone using it, something no one else has ever be able to destroy and which can do great harm if allowed to continue to exist. She and Devin attempt to seek out the location of the grimoire, thought to have been buried with a body, on his father’s request, but no one knows the name of the deceased or where the body was buried! Another victim is killed at Nicky’s club and she finds another was killed while she was away, making it personal for Nicky. She needs to find the person stealing souls and killing people close to her and the club, before this being becomes too strong to take down. Some exciting new talent for Nicky’s club brings its own danger and somehow this is all linked to the grimoire, the Nazarene, Mina and her group, and all the killings going on, which continue to escalate on both sides of the fight. Nicky may have both Devin, a warlock, and Malinda, a witch, on her side but may have to make a deal with the devil to save her friends and stop this killer! No Shift, Sherlock: A Vampire Hunter Urban Fantasy Mystery (The Legend of Nyx) by Theophilus Monroe
As if bloodsuckers weren't frightening enough... whatever killed these people consumed their souls...
Leaving their bodies completely unscathed. The victims had only one thing in common.
They were all attacked at my club.
But when you mess with my fans, Nicky's fans... well, you'll unleash Nyx and soon regret it.
The Grimoire of the Nazarene is still missing.
If the Order of the Morning Dawn finds it first, Mina will unleash a legion of angels to wipe out everything she deems unnatural: vampires, witches, me... and good people like me, people in my community.
Is there a connection between these killings and the missing grimoire?
I have reason to believe it's all connected.
With everybody that turns up at my club I suspect that Mina gets a little closer to acquiring the Grimoire of the Nazarene and ending us all.
Nyx is a badass, trans woman. And every vampire, and supernatural killer’s, worst nightmare. She refuses to allow bias and prejudice to define her and would rather not focus on any negative energy sent her way. Life for Nicky is uncomplicated, until it suddenly isn't. She has her famous club; she has the devotion of Devin and she's even taken a young witch under her wing. So far as Nicky's concerned, life is great. Then suddenly a death occurs, then another and Nicky, Devin and Malinda are forced into action. More death and a heart is broken, but Nicky must now solve the mystery of the deaths AND stop evil from killing more.
I really loved the complex characters and their actions. It was a neat easy to read story with so much action and adventure that I had a tough time putting it down to do other stuff. The author has a real feel for making you understand, like and love the characters. I invested so many emotions into this story that I feel like we’re family. I highly recommend you read all the books.
I loved this third installment in Nyx's series. Nicky/Nyx is just a fabulous character that always leaves me wanting more!
In this one, everything seems to be a bit slow on the vampire hunting scene for Nyx and although there are other things she needs to take care of in order to finally defeat Mina and the rest of the Order of the Morning Dawn, there's not much she and her boyfriend Devin can do right now.
However, when one of the new performers at Nicky's dies a mysterious death, worries start to surface about who or what is behind it. When a second one happens in a very similar manner the following night, the police have no choice but to close down the club and investigate. Nicky, Devin and Malinda have their own investigation to carry out now too and soon their paths cross with Mina.
Add in a few weird, possibly prophetic, dreams about what she needs to do and Nicky finds herself back to where her journey began! But will they be able to stop Mina in time? Do the dreams really reveal what she needs to do? You'll have to read this book to find out!
I loved this plot and the big baddy behind it all - or should I say baddies, one of whom was a complete surprise! I loved Brucie the most in this one - his payments for his actions were just hilarious!
Theo's writing style just pulls me in every time and I have now read a lot of his work. It is funny, laugh out loud funny at times and serious when it needs to be. You can feel the emotions of the characters and I love the way they all interact with each other even when they are enemies!
This series is a great one with a great main character, great side characters and an imaginative plot every time! A must read!
Thank you to Theo for an ARC copy of this book! I can't wait for the next one!
The recap at the start of the book seemed a little unneeded to me. Granted, I’ve reviewed the other stories recently. I don’t recall there being one for book 2. Maybe there was an I forgot.
I have mixed feelings about the formatting of this series. On the one hand, I wish there was an overarching story to connect all of the books. Though on the other, I’m glad I don’t have to wait to see how things end. It really takes a lot of the fire and urgency out of the story because I know it will all be wrapped up by the end.
The mystery was well done. I wasn’t trying to solve it, I never do. Looking back, I recognize some of the subtle hints and clues that I didn’t give a second thought at the time.
I really like how Nicky and her boyfriend’s relationship slightly evolves with each story. They’re finally been able to be intimate and even had a (pretty much) adopted daughter. It makes me slime to see them grow as a couple and family and the scenes with them as a group often made me laugh.
The audiobook featured numerous instances of repeated audio. The dual narrators is a rare but nice touch, for the most part. The female narrator says “onvelope”, which isn’t a word. On top of that, her audio sounds extremely different between recordings which are awkward and jarring. With the male narrator, all of his voices sound the same. There was one instance where two characters said the same line and I thought it was an instance of repeated audio at first. He really lacked the professional touch of acting out the lines and giving different voices.

No Shift, Sherlock is the third book in The Legend of Nyx series by Theophilus Monroe. Like the two books before it No Shift, Sherlock starts out with a bang as a young woman is found dead in the parking lot of Nyx’s nightclub. Nyx’s hired three new backup singers for the club.
While Nyx and Devin are out of the club working on a case she asks one of the singers to open for her. After the show ends the singer, Amelia is found in the parking lot dead. Her soul had been sucked right out of her. But it doesn’t appear to have been done by a vampire as there are no bites.
No one knew that something like this could be done ever. Before long more bodies turn up and at Nyx’s place. Who is killing these people and why? Never fear for Nyx is on the case and as everybody knows she will not stop until the murderer is revealed.
No Shift, Sherlock is just as interesting and filled with mystery as its predecessors. It feels me with laughter. I would the way the characters talk. The characters are all just as awesome as their language happens to be. I am used to the way the characters talk as my husband says things in the same category. He keeps me rolling in laughter.
No Shift, Sherlock kept me glued to my seat as I waited for each clue/mystery to be revealed. I was racing to the end to see how everything came out. I love this world and can’t wait to read more of it. I can’t wait to dive into the next book Shift For Brains to see what lies ahead for each character. I can’t wait to see where their story goes next.
Here we are, book 3, and the story continues to evolve and only getting better. Nicky is back home and ready to do her thing at the club. Her opener is going to be out of town and they had looking to audition some other people for backup singers and dancers, so this is the perfect time. At the same time, they have a grimoire to locate and destroy. Working on leads on that, finding other performers, who knows how Nicky finds time to stay FABULOUS!! The first night of the new singers performing, something horrible happens. Nicky is at a loss to who did what, but our girl doesn't give up. Leads to the grimoire come so there is that good part, but what it leads to is even more puzzling as they find, it's NOT where it was expected to be. More death and a heart is broken, but Nicky must now solve the mystery of the deaths AND stop evil from killing more.
As usual Theophilus rocks his storytelling, adding laughs to what is a disturbing situation. Blood bag exploding, HAHA! I only find joy when reading his books and the need to not sleep till the end (who needs sleep anyways).
This series as many of his others are great for YA and up. They are engaging and give a new spin to all supernatural. Many supernaturals intertwine in his stories and I just love I can get a multiple fix in one sitting. SO go read No Shift, Sherlock and read about our funny detective Nicky. :)

Even though I know Theo's writing style by now, having read all his books, I'm still surprised at myself at how I sometimes forget that Theo injects humour into his books until I find myself grinning at a certain sentence or phrase. I love the play on words, I find it intelligent and inspiring. As to the actual story, well, as always, brilliant. I always find Theo's books thought provoking, even though it's about Vampires, Sprites, Witches, etc. Nicky/Nyx is such a special character, well rounded, credible and totally unapologetic of who she is. She refuses to allow bias and prejudice to define her and would rather not focus on any negative energy sent her way. Life for Nicky is uncomplicated, until it suddenly isn't. She has her famous club, she has the devotion of Devin and she's even taken a young witch under her wing. So far as Nicky's concerned, life is great. Then suddenly a death occurs, then another and Nicky, Devin and Malinda are forced into action. And what intense action it is! Chasing down the killer unravels a whole new problem! I love the intricacies of the storyline, the fact that the plot expands gently yet in a well paced manner and most of all, I love reading how Nicky solves the riddle, or at least tries to. This book is yet another winner!

This is the 3rd book in The Legend of Nyx Series and the books just keep getting better as the series continues.
Nicky is back running her club and finds she needs to replace her opening act. But the timing works out well since she already had auditions planned for backup singers and dancers.
With everything all set she feels confident opening night will be a hit but things don't go as planned leaving a murder in it's wake. So what does our Nicky do? Well The obvious of course and she gets to work trying to solve the crime. Needless to say our Nicky already had a full plate trying to locate a world ending grimoire but what's a girl to do.
As Nicky's investigation continues she finds the grimoire but that does not solve her problems as more murders occur.
Can Nicky solve these evil deals and save the lives of her friends? Check out this installment find out! Great read full of mystery, murder, and some fantastic humor. These books always keep me laughing and pull me deep into the world-building building. I highly recommend it. A truly great read from start to finish something you can always expect from this authors books.
The Order of the Morning Dawn is still out to ruin the supernatural community's existence in No Shift, Sherlock, book three in the Legend of Nyx series. This book is fun, with Devin and Nicky turning heads and falling into one adventure after another, and a few twists keep the story interesting. Parts of the book made me laugh out loud. There is definite suspense as well and lots of paranormal, supernatural action. The storyline is entertaining and has a bit of mystery as Devin and Nicky look for the Grimoire of the Nazarene, "yes, that Nazarene," that Devin's mother hid. The book builds up to and delivers a climactic end.
I have read many of Theophilus Monroe's books, and the characters are consistent throughout his many series. It helps to be familiar with his characters when reading this book, and I highly recommend reading the two previous books in the Legend of Nyx series. As one is ending, it leads to the next book. The next book in this series is Shift For Brains.

When Nicky's star new singer collapses after her whirlwind debut, an accidental death or poisoning doesn't feel right to Nicky. But can she figure out who killed her rising star before the body count gets too high?
Rejoin Nicky, Devin, and Melinda in this third installment of the Legend of Nyx series as they try to protect their friends from a new threat.
No Shift Sherlock uses the familiar ground of urban fantasy to craft a murder mystery that is at simultaneously light-hearted and high stakes. The dynamic between the three main characters is deep and believable, from their work at Nicky's club to their squabbles at home.
Would recommend this series to anyone who is a fan of the urban fantasy genre, or even as a introduction for someone looking to make the leap from whodunnits to the fantasy genre.

No Shift, Sherlock is the third book in the Legend of Nyx series. Theophilus Monroe is a gifted writer. If you enjoy shifter urban fantasy, vampire urban fantasy, with snarky and unlikely heroes, then you’ll enjoy this vampire hunter series. Fans of Michael Anderle, Shayne Silvers, or Linsey Hall will love Theophilus Monroe’s Legend of Nyx series. Nyx is a badass, trans woman. And every vampire's, and supernatural killer’s, worst nightmare. This book had a great story line, building upon the characters introduced in the preceding novel. The author showed maturation in his writing from his debut novel and this one flowed wonderfully, keeping you engaged from the beginning. The foreshadowing gave way to some predictions along the way, (and I was totally wrong!) the book was thrilling throughout. I gave this honest, voluntary review after being given a free copy of the book with no monetary compensation.
I swear, I have no idea where Monroe gets all of these concepts, but the series is just un-insert profanity here-believable.
This book takes us in circles, even as the characters go ‘round and ‘round the mystery, trying to figure it out. Once again, issues of Nyx’s gender identity and/or sexual orientation are forced entirely to take a back seat to the story itself. Once again I almost completely forgot about these more controversial aspects of the storyline and simply got lost in the mystery he built.
There is so much to enjoy here. I would have to day my favorite scenes must be those in which newly minted “mom,” Nicky, must deal with a rebellious teenager. Monroe captures that particular dynamic particularly well!
These are fun. They're getting a lot more... Paranormal Mystery series than I expected though. She starts out with a mystery and at the end of the book she solves it, we move on to the next. I guess that's not exactly what I signed up for when I started the series but the story was good and the characters are great. I just don't usually read Mysteries for a reason and I hadn't expected to be smack in the middle of a Mystery series when I started. Otherwise, it's actually pretty good and now that I've started I'm on book 3 I'm invested. Which is usually why I don't read Mystery series. I get invested and nothing actually changes. I didn't see the "mystery" only the Urban Fantasy, Until now and... well I should have looked more into it. It's definitely a good mystery. Pretty apt for the genre and if you're into that, I think you'll love it.
Nooooo!!! Why is it that just when I feel I’m getting into the swing of a really great book, that it finishes on a big, fat, juicy cliffhanger??! Well Theo has really done it again with this third in a series book. Nicky and Devin are out to save the day again, this time with the help of a recovering Malinda, and Hailey who assists from afar. They are still battling against Mina and the Order of the Morning Dawn and this time the stakes are raised (no pun intended!!) as Mina tries to eradicate witches and vampires for ever with the help of some angels, but all is not as it seems… Now I just need Theo to finish writing book 4 so I can find out what happens to the …….. I better not say any more!!
I received a free copy of this book in return for an honest review
Nicky and Devin are at Lakeview Funeral Home attempting to find out which grave Tom Miller put a grimoire in. Unfortunately, they did not learn anything. Two hours before the show that night, Devin had scheduled auditions for three people. Nicky sat through the auditions and decided to take all three on. The first performer, Amelia, sang first that night and the crowd loved her. Later, when Nicky was performing, Amelia went outside and then died. As the body count rises, Nicky does her own investigating and finds out the grimoire is actually an indestructible scroll that only she can actually destroy. This book was fun to read, has action, romance, and ends in a cliffhanger. Highly recommended.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Nicky is growing up so fast. First he discovers himself, then he commits, now .... now he is a helicopter parent. Just think, a trans-species vampire hunter helicopter parent - let's see what Malinda can get away with. The interactions of this unlikely almost-functional family together with the mystery that has apparently targeted Nicky's club is mind-bogglingly chaotic, but what else can be expected when family and career (loosely speaking) collide?
I received a copy via Story Origin and I am voluntarily leaving a review.
Death, action, drama, humor and more. Theo packs so much into his books so one minute your ‘no way’ and the next you’re laughing, all while never taking away from the storyline just adding to it. His books are different than every other supernatural ones and yet they pull you in. You want to read from beginning to end and fuss cuz there’s a cliffhanger.

In No Shift, Sherlock (Legend of Nyx Book 3) by Theophilus Monroe, that I received through StoryOrigin, something or someone is consuming souls leaving the bodies intact at Nicky/Nyx's club and the Grimoire of the Nazarene is missing. Is there a connection? I enjoyed reading the first three books in the series and definitely recommend to fans of Vampire Hunter Urban Fantasy. These books are available on Amazon
Nicky is a kickass woman and she’s not about to let anyone take what’s hers from her. I love her and it’s so much fun getting to see her figure out more and more of what she wants and what she can do. Her friends are there for her and she’s not about to let them down. This was a good story and still had the quirkiness of the series which I love. I’m excited to find out what else is in store for Nicky and her crew.
I enjoyed the third book in the series a lot. I am finding each book better than the one before it. I really liked the creative theme that ran through the pages of this story. The world building was extensive. The characters changed and evolved as the series progressed. The action was more intense. Kasey Logan's and George Tait's dual narrations enhanced the story's entertainment. I was given a free copy of the audiobook, and I have voluntarily posted this review.
I got this book for free thru an Advanced Review Copy, ARC, with an honest review freely given. I thought the storyline was a funny and quirky read and I absolutely loved it and this is my opinion. I thought the character built up was spot on and I felt it made the story better in my opinion. When I received this book I was able to read it from the very beginning to the very end.
Nicky is back and at the club but of course problems arise and must be solved. Action, danger, death and funny times all occur in the story. So kept me glued to the end while entertaining me as always. Loved the story and a few surprises. Kept me reading tot he end to see what was going to pop up this time. And there is the issues with Mina to be dealt with. Just a fun story.
Dead bodies are appearing around their place and they have their souls missing as well. They know they need to investigate and get it all to stop. Who is behind it all? Can it be stopped? How will they do it? See if it can all be stopped

No Shift, Sherlock by Theophilus Monroe is an amazing story to read. This is book number three in this amazing series that I have been so hooked on since the beginning and can not wait to read the rest. I highly recommend this story to everyone who loves reading about LGBT and urban fantasy.

So, book three. A little different this one and all the better for it. It starts off at a reasonable level and the ramps up and up to an ending I certainly didn’t see coming. What’s book four going to be like I wonder. This is a cracking series, one which I wasn’t sure I would like, boy has that changed. Highly recommended listen.
A great read and listen. This book in the series certainly had Nix stymied as she tried to resolve mysterious deaths and the portent of her dreams. There is plenty of action and I loved the characters. I liked the addition of male voices for the male parts. However, there were several places in the narration where the narrator repeated the same sentence. Overall, this was a great listen.
Another rocking story from Theophilus Monroe! Twisty tales and mystery with a little humor here and there make a recipe for another remarkable story creation from Mr. Monroe who never fails to write a spectacular book every time.
Nicky/Nyx is back and now has to find out who is attacking people in her club. Definitely a page turner adventure keeping you on the edge of your seat. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
