Born with an empathetic healing ability, Shaye’s life has been filled with the rejection of people who didn’t understand her gift. With only a few close friends, she lives a nomadic lifestyle as a traveling nurse.

Shaye knew she was different since she was a child, but never really understood it. When her latest assignment brings her to a small town in Tennessee, she never expected it to change her life. Spending a day exploring, her powers draw her to the large house on the outskirts of town. Shaye finds a man being tortured and uses her gifts to save him. As she recovers from healing him, she discovers that she is his fated mate. Growing up human, her worldview is blown wide open when she is introduced to a world where magic and paranormal creatures exist, including vampires, werewolves, and Fae.

Her mate, Rolf, is caring and protective. Although Shaye saved him once, he is still in danger. His father wants to either use him for his power or kill him if he resists. With multiple attempts to end Rolf’s life, can Shaye, Rolf, and their friends defeat this monster or will their love end before it fully begins?

The writing style and voice for BITE ME AGAIN was just not working for me. I can't really even describe what I didn't like about it but it just didn't sound very natural. It almost felt like I was getting a summary of the story after the fact, rather than experiencing it actually happening.

Note: I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Note 2: This is a series. Please read in order as the stories are interconnected, and characters do make cameos.

Triggers: Triggers: rape, violence, ostracised child.

Note: lgbt representation.

Wow, this story was sure fast and furious like, with plenty of action, steam, romance, found family, and just generally paranormal vibes ye high.

I loved being around Rolf and Shaye, just because they both have dealt with similar parents and difficult life circumstances. The development was top notch.

And the instant communication and attraction was also something - I enjoyed despite me hating insta love in most novels but this one did it so good haha - so worth it.

Plus the supportive friends - oof, made me wish I had those like them. Not that I hate my current friends hahah.

And the many sudden couples forming - was also tons of fun to watch.

SO I loooved this novel for all the reasons - so many paranormal communities explained in detail, great characters, wonderful steam and heartwarming romance, friendship, families (well his ma), and just being along for the ride itself was so joyous.

My only complaint was that the chapters should've been shorter or the book longer - because despite me enjoying the info on paranormals and how Rolf and Shaye were meant to be - I still wished the book was more evenly spaced out - so the story could have a chance to breathe properly and show it in a more flowing manner, rather than looking like an info dump of sorts.

But a wonderfully charming and spooky story for sure.

Until the next read,
-TMR

Twilight vibes but happier.

Great plot. Great character development. Feels a little rushed in places but doesn't take to much from the story and doesn't make you fall out reading.

Characters feel really well developed and well rounded. Like they have a history outside of the pages. Very 3d.

I was kind of hoping for a little resistance with some of the mating bonds. I'm glad this happened with Rolf's mum, Emma, but I feel like this could have made the dynamics a bit more balanced and almost not rushed.

It felt very happy and enlightened.

Ian's accent may have been a little jarring to anyone not used to reading Scottish dialect, especially if they aren't familiar with reading like this or the Scottish accent.

The Final battle felt rather rushed. I think it could have been drawn out just a little, maybe seeing it from different parts of the fight. This would have made it feel slightly larger than 3 or 4 people. You get glimpses of other people but nothing substantial. I feel like it could have been fleshed out. Like you could have had a good 300 page novel.

The ending was simple and sweet, nothing to heavy, and a nice chill out after the final battle. There are more books in the series so I will be reading them.

I would say there is a little spice, about 2 chillis. Its nice that this was more than just the romance. This author knows how to do romance but also knows how to right paranormal fantasy!

I did love this!

When you turn the pages of this book, you enter a world of paranormal characters. The norms of humans do not exist, and their is a new normal is something the MFC has to get used to. The romance between the main characters is steamy and moves quickly. All the characters are interesting, and there was plenty of action to keep me entertained. I recommend this fast-paced story to those who enjoy PNR as it is a good weekend afternoon read.

Bite Me Again by Harper Dakota is book 1 of the Nightwood Clan series, a paranormal romance with vampires, shifters, witches and more.

A short quick read about the beginnings of the Nightwood Clan. Vampire Vlad is Rolf’s father/maker and wants Rolf to follow and submit to his plan to rule. Shaye, a girl who grew up thinking she was a human with a gift to heal, is drawn one day to a large house where Rolf is being held against his will by Vlad and desperately needing saving.

I love that this story is about friends of all different kinds who join against evil and end up coming together to form a big family unit of newly formed mates. I can’t wait to read book 2 and see what challenges the new clan faces.

The story was very compact for the amount of plot that was covered. I enjoyed meeting the cast of characters. Some things happened that are more typically spread out over each book of a series, so I am interested to see what happens in book 2.

The prose is abrupt. No pretty words here. The plot is rushed.

FMC uses her empathic powers to locate the MMC in great pain, heals him, discovers through her telepathy that he is a vampire, and then he calmly tells her that they are fated mates and asks her to move into his house in the same conversation. He claims he wants to protect her from the bad guy who harmed him, but it’s weird because She agrees immediately and without a thought.

After he gives her the grand tour of his house and tells her it’s all hers now too, he orders furniture for her to be delivered same-day, and they’re already getting up to spicy things before dinner time and he’s calling her “love” like BRUH I need you to call me my name for the first week of this relationship or else imma just assume you don’t know it! Messy!

FMC gets two jobs in the space of one month, quitting the first due to the bad guys, barely goes to work at the second one for a week before the bad guys have her calling out of that one too, but lord knows why she works at all because MMC has infinite money and property and spends it like it ain’t no thang.

Both characters are telepathic and able to see each other’s pasts with their mind powers, making the “getting to know you” stage of the relationship meaningless, except that the FMC doesn’t have, like, as good of a handle on her abilities I guess, because she only gets to see what he wants her to see, and he gets to see everything about her since her literal birth. Unfair.

The dialogue… good grief. Look at this mess of a paragraph:

“How do you turn someone? Will I be your Mate as soon as you turn me? Will I have to drink blood too? Will we have to drink from other people? I don’t want to have sex with other people, and I would want us to be monogamous. You mentioned vampires get healing and stuff when they become vampires, but your mother has visions. Did she have that before? Do you have more friends here that I will meet? What are they? Is that rude to ask? Does turning hurt? How long does it take? What does being a mate mean? Is mate with a big ‘M’ or a little ‘m’? Can vampires have kids?”

This is an actual quote from the book, meant to imply the FMC is rambling nervously, and then the MMC just replies to each question in order like… who can even keep all that in their head straight? This is one chapter after the MMC spends pages and pages listing off every supernatural being he knows to be real, their appearance, and strengths and weaknesses. Why do we need such huge infodumps all the time? Why can’t we have a naturalistic dialogue?

All of those things would’ve come up much more naturally if the MCs didn’t just use mind reading as a substitute for getting to know one another. Instead we get this crap. 🤷🏻‍♀️

And it’s not like, an isolated incident where we’re learning more about the world; all of the dialogue is long winded and rambling:

Shaye focused back on Tess. “We would love to have you stay here. You know I always wanted a family. We can make our own. Rolf has some great friends in town, and a few others that live around the world. He said he didn’t formally start his own Clan because of his father. It’s quite the story and Rolf said it was important for you to know of the danger if you are going to stay here. The wards protect the house and the grounds, but you’ll need to be careful when you are out in town. His father is evil,” she informed her friend.

Tess waited patiently until they were done talking to each other. “If you turn, I do believe that you would get help with your powers. I don’t think Fate would make things worse for you when you choose to be with your mate. I can see how it would be scary though,” she admitted. “Who do you think will tell you it is too fast? All of your friends here are paranormals and used to how quickly mating happens. Your human friends will accept it because they love you. I think a lot of them have some inkling on the paranormal world anyway; they were pretty quick to accept your gift. You don’t have to turn right now, even if you mate,” Tess added.

Jesus, take a breather!

The plot holes are many and varied:

* At one point, the characters are seated on a bathroom counter which suddenly becomes a bathtub two paragraphs later.
* Another time, a character is holding a dagger that becomes a sword on the next page.
* Vampires don’t need to eat for sustenance, they only do so for enjoyment, but when MMC is he gets a saline IV, catheter and soup broth—why? He doesn’t need the broth or water to live, he only needs blood a couple times a month, and if he’s not taking any liquids, he won’t need the catheter.
* They have to plan a big elaborate trap for the bad guy, but they clear it with the magical police first—why? If bad guy has done something wrong, why doesn’t the warden do his job? If not, why is it okay for someone else to attack him? Why would getting permission matter? It’s not like I can call up my local police IRL and say “hey, gonna set a trap for my stalker and kill him if he shows, we good?”
* The FMC is a human nurse

Every single side character is decades or centuries old, but they are all single and all get a mate within the few weeks of the book’s timeline, because I guess the author just cannot stop themselves from shipping their characters.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I love that this is not your typical bad blood sucking vampire romance but that the vampires are more like enhanced humans. shaye risks her own life to help someone in need finding out he's a vampire and his mate. this opens up a whole new world for her and her friendship with her college friends too discovering new info about them both. Shaye accepts this new world rather well because she has always been different to the point her parents kicked her out when she was grown and abandoned her. but her new life isn't all roses, danger lurks and her and rolfston must band together with both their friends to survive and defeat the enemy. shaye is kind and nurturing trying to heal ppl when she can working as a nurse as well as using her gifts. she is accepting of differences in others and always willing to help out. rolfston is strong and caring, a great friend and someone who wants to make a home not only for himself but others and protect his little town he calls home.

A great cast of well described and developed characters along with great world building of the town makes this a fast paced and interesting read holding your attention easily. already reading the next book in this series.
I received an arc copy from booksirens and this is my honest voluntary review.

"A Stunning Vampire Romance"
The storyline is fun to read! It is exciting, funny, thrilling, and steamy hot. It has some awesome characters.
Shaye is a sweet and spunky Empath nurse. Her abilities are healing, telepathy, and being able to feel what others feel. One day she hears a voice in her head begging for help. She follows the voice to a huge mansion. This is where she discovered Rolf a sexy vampire. He had been severely beaten and burned. Shaye heals him at a risk to herself. Rolf's mother who is a telepathic vampire. Had led Shaye to Rolf. As she seen in a vision that Shaye is his fated mate. Rolf's mother had informed him this. Before Shaye had passed out after healing him.
When Shaye wakes up she learns that Rolf is a vampire. Also that paranormals are real! She feels drawn to Rolf, and when he tells her she is his fated mate. Shaye knows this to be true. Can Rolf convince her to be his? He informs her that the person who hurt him. Was his father/maker he promises her he will protect her! As now she is also in danger for saving Rolf!
You will love this five star plus vampire romance!

Ok I love me a good paranormal romance and I have always been upset that I have not found a good vampire paranormal romance yet but my prayers have been answered! Holy crap was this good.

This has everything I could ask for in a paranormal romance- fated mates, shifters, found family. Throw in that the MMC Rolf is a vampire and holy crap can I die one happy reader. I loved that Shay, our FMC, is a no nonsense kind of gal. As a travel nurse, she certainly has seen her fair share, but when she ends up in this new town for her assignment, she is drawn to Rolf, not really understanding why. Turns out, he is her fated mate and holy crap does she not give him an easy time about it. I loved that she was just so tough that as she was learning to come to terms with all of the paranormal stuff her eyes were opening up to. Despite the fact that this is such a short story, you really get the feel that both Rolf and Shay are meant for each other and the compassion and love they have for one another. You really can feel that on the page and coupled along with the story, you really forget you are even reading. I can't wait to see what else this series has to hold.

Bite Me Again is book one of the Nightwood Clan Series. If you like a story that contains vampires, werewolves, witches and fae, then this story is for you.

Shaye has had a unique gift since she was a child and has faced rejection by everyone she has known. She finally finds a small town where she felt at home and where she could be accepted. She finally embraces who she was always meant to be and becomes more confident in herself by being in this town and meeting Rolf.

Rolf is a vampire and discovers Shaye is his mate. He was a very enjoyable character to read about as he was an understanding and compassionate individual. His protective instincts were forefront and I loved reading how much he loved and cared for Shaye.

There is a lot of mystery and intrigue involved with this story. There is a broader storyline where Shaye and Rolf need to fight against an enemy. It was great seeing how unified the town and their families were to helping them get rid of their enemy. I enjoyed this story and can't wait to read the next book in the series.

Vampires, Faes, witches andWerewolves living as a community in a small town. They exist happily with humans and different species, but there is always one who seeks power.

Rolf is a vampire and lives a secluded life. Shaye is a travelling nurse and is drawn towards someone in pain during her travels. When she goes to investigate she is horrified by what she finds. She uses her powers to heal Rolf who in the process discovers that she is his mate. Everything happens quickly. She moves in with him and plans for their future whilst danger looms.

It's different from the many vampire novels that I read. The events appear to be unreal. A vampire having a cardiac arrest? When the day of reckoning happens it all ends well and everyone is happy.

I received a Free eARC from BookSirens and the views expressed are my personal opinion.

Shaye is an empath who can feel peoples pain. Whilst out shopping she is alerted to someone's immense pain and stumbles upon a man being tortured. A man who is revealed to be a vampire and her fated mate.

This book moves quickly almost too quickly with the relationship. There doesn't seem to be much depth to the characters and they become a happy couple almost straight away. I was drawn to this book because of the darkness of the torture and I wanted more in depth action. However, what was the initial plot line kind of fizzles to make way for the romance. Also what vampire eats oatmeal whilst recovering from injury ...... interesting.

However don't let this put you off. If you want a story that's full of romance with a hint of supernatural and otherworldly friends then this book is for you.

I haven't read a paranormal book for a long time, I think I read too many of them and felt a lot of them were too similar.

Bite me had a very different feel to it, different paranormal characters

Vampire

Fated mates

Werewolf

Witches

And more

Living in a small town peacefully with humans, Shaye has the ability to heal and can sense when people are in pain.

Rolfston is a vampire who needs her help.

I got pulled into this story straight away and I'm looking forward to more.

I recommend this to people who love paranormal but want something different than the norm

This is the first book I've read by this author. It's the first installment in the night wood clan series. Its a fast paced, super quick paranormal read. Telling us the story of shame and Rolf.

It's filled with action, spice, found family, friends and loads more. Once I started I couldn't stop.

The characters are great, the plot was good and the story was written very well. The main characters have an instant connection, they go through so much in this book. It was a great and fun little read, that takes you on a wicked journey.

I can't wait to read the next book in the series to see what comes next. Highly recommend.

Overall, this book is exactly what I want in a paranormal romance novel. Good storyline, plenty of spice, and lots of different paranormal characters. The fight scenes are excellent! The reason I gave this 4 stars is because of some grammatical errors, the way the beginning felt a bit rushed and the (in my opinion only) overuse of the word, "mate". In conclusion, it was a great story and I am looking forward to book #2!

A great start to a new series. This is the first book that I have read by the author and I am looking forward to future books. This is a new twist on a vampire story combined with fated mates story. The main focus is the two lead characters but there is additional storylines that keeps the book interesting. There are other paranormal characters and builds a great way to make minor characters into their own book in the future. It is worth a read.

This is the first time I have read a book from this author and it won't be the last. I really enjoyed this book from beginning and especially the end. It was a little slow to start with Shaye and Rolf first finding each other, but has the book progressed and more exciting things happened and mystery's were solved the book really caught my interest. Vampires, werewolves, witches what could be more exciting in a good read.

This is shaye and rolf books.
Rolf is a vampire, but his turning was done by his father and was very painful.
Since then,he father has become greedy for power and wanting rolf to join him.
Shaye is human, but has certain gifts that makes her feel when people are in pain and she can heal them.
Rolf is caught and is being hurt when shaye can feel this and goes to help him.
They both feel a pull to each other and instantly rolf knows shes his mate
It was a lovely story and i cannot wait to read the rest in the series.

What a fun start to a new series! Danger, vampires, shifters, fae, fated mates, found family. Lots of my favorite things!
Shaye is a traveling nurse who gets a new assignment. When she’s exploring her new town, she’s drawn to Rolf and discovers that he is her fated mate.
This book is the first in a PNR series by Harper Dakota. I loved that Shaye doesn’t make it easy on Rolf, even though they’re fated mates. She has a good head on her shoulders even as her world is opened to the paranormal.
If you’re looking for a quick read and a new series, check this one out!

Good paranormal story

I liked the characters here and the overall idea of the book. Parts of this felt a little off and followed a rather predictable storyline, but it wasn’t bad. The characters were all fairly strong in their own right. I do like the idea of a found family. It happens to be one of my favorite themes. I would give it probably 3.5 stars. There would have been more but I just couldn’t submerse myself in it 100%.

Finding out you're different as a child was hard enough that she was forced to move around a lot as she grew up.

Finally it looks like she's found herself and her home, including a few things about her friends she didn’t know before.

He's spent his life just trying to survive, with a brutal start to his immortality that didn’t come easy.

Together, they can finally start to make a future.

I really enjoyed this and am looking forward to the next book.

Loved this book

I love paranormal romance novels, and this one was fun, spicy, and had colorful characters. Themes of love, friendship, secrets, and good vs Evil also made the story more compelling. The author has an engaging and unique writing style that draws you in and holds you captive until the end. 5 big ⭐️

Supernatural world

I loved how they all lived closed together. Tess may have been my favorite character. but I love a good vampire. the fight scene at the end might just be my favorite part. When they asked Duncan the dragon to burn the bodies was kinda funny. I really like the story and excited to to read the next one!

This story is about the beginning of the Nightwood Clan. It is a story of friendship, family, love and evil. The storyline and world building are topnotch. The author has done a good job of keeping the story moving and not confusing. This is definitely well written and you will fall in love with the characters. I finished this in one sitting and am anxious to read the best book in the series.

This was the first book I’ve read by this author and I enjoyed it but it took me a little while to get into it. I love PNR and really enjoyed the mix of supernaturals in the story. I enjoyed Shaye & Rolf’s journey to love and how despite being Fated Mates they still took some time to solidify their bond. I enjoyed reading it and will continue on reading the rest of the series.

I would recommend this book. I enjoyed this book and found it to be a little different from the usual paranormal romance. I have read others with similar themes, but they were much darker than this book.

This book contains paranormals, romance, murderous intent, torture and family.

Paranormal community, fated mate, twists on the regular paranormal, and you have a very fascinating story that leaves you wishing you didn't have to finish the book. Shaye and Rolf find their relationship fast but there is still a danger they must discover. Looking forward to more in this world.
