So bad

Story
This story was amateur at best. I really don't understand how it got so many stars. Horrible grammer and editing, rushed storyline with little depth of character development. Just plain bad.

cringe and too fast
she never even questioned that her job changed from being a pa to nanny and jeez the stammering, and we're not even gonna talk about why he just randomly pinned her to the wall when she first asked why his hands were shaking?? its better than the first book but there's a lot of room for improvement
id give it only one star but the sex scenes were good

Mister Lawson is the second offering in the Mister series. Typically billionaire stories are not really one of my favorite troupes but I have to tell you that Breanne serves it up just right with her billionaire series. Mister Lawson aka Drake can call me anytime.

None of the men are arrogant towards the women that come into their lives. Yet, they can be controlling behind the bedroom doors. Which in turn makes for some really hot sex scenes. Although, the women do have their say as well.

The sexual tension between Gemma and Drake was so tight, you could cut it with a knife. It just kept building like a fire until the climax. Everytime I did not think Drake would win me over, he would melt my heart again and again. The bonus epilogue is much appreciated and needed. After reading it, I needed a cigarette.

This book is hot! The chemistry between Gemma & Drake is on point. Loved this story! I did feel like there were a few holes in the timeline that left me a little confused. For example, from the end of one chapter & the beginning of the next, there was no transition from one place to another. It was hard for me to understand how she ‘got there.’ Otherwise, I loved the plot & fell in love with the characters. Breanne did a wonderful job creating a spicy, sweet, tearjerker with a HEA.

*This story does contain mentions of death and sexual assault*

Was off to a good start tbh. But then her mum died and he took advantage of her and kissed her. And I just couldn’t enjoy it after that🤷🏼‍♀️went down hill. It felt rushed, and reminded me of a crappy wattpad book, sorry😭

Received as an ARC and leaving my honest review. I liked the intent of the story and the complication that is Drake and the precociousness of his daughter Hope. It's sweet that Drake is able to open up and fall in love again and I would have preferred dual POV so as to get his side of the story. The epilogue was a good wrap up to the story too!

My personal peeves which distracted my reading but it may not be an issue for other readers... there were a quite a bit of typos and wrong names (a good proof reader is needed). I felt there were too many repetitive internal dialogue of why Gemma needed the job. No idea why morning sunrise is mistaken as sunset throughout the story and Hope is 8 so no idea why Gemma would think she can't read hmmm...But if you can get past all that it's a fast paced sweet read with a HEA.

Boring/5📚 0/5🌶️
This piece of work to put it lightly needs some serious editing and a lot of alpha and beta readers. Gosh everything was all over the place and there was no reading flow at all. I don’t care about the characters at all. The storyline was super boring.

The writing is horrendous. The amount of “fancy” adjectives and adverbs that are used in a single chapter is insane. There is no need to put that much effort into describing how the FMC navigates her car through an ordinary street or to describe her dinner as if she had never eaten anything before.😵‍💫
„The CRISP vegetables CRUSHED as I chewed and the rice SQUISHED.“
„I swallowed the hot food as it TRAVELS DOWNWARDS“ (this doesn’t even make any sense)
It made me feel like I’m reading the blog of a mommy influencer who lost all connection to the real life and is in desperate need to touch some grass.
“I said brightly as I smiled”
“I said brightly as I eyed”
“I smiled brightly at him”
“I snapped back brightly as I smiled”
“she smiled brightly towards”
“I replied brightly”
“who smiled brightly”
(All of this alone can be found in 5 following pages)
We get it you’re the sun yourself and nothing could ever dull your spirit but putting “I said brightly” back to back while otherwise throwing around with unnecessary adjectives is crazy work.
No “I said in a friendly tone”, no “I gave him my best happy face”, no “I smiled pleased” etc. always brightly as if looking at her gives you 3rd degree sunburn already.
I SAID BRIGHTLY AS I SMILED, you hear me screaming when they drag me back into the facility.
„Gazing down, I saw she wore a beautiful blue and white dress with blue dress shoes. She was perfectly dressed and very well taken care of.“
BLUE AND DRESS AND DRESS AND BLUE, I scream as they strap me to the bed.
“That would have to be a bird“
“Well, that would have to be chocolate“
“Oh, um, that would have to be purple.”
THAT WOULD HAVE TO BE, I scream as they lock me into a windowless room. Try answering questions from a 8 year old without using „that would have to be“ level impossible.
„…but I wanted nothing more than to be with her. I was relieved that Grace would be with her. It helped me not get up from this desk and head straight home. Hating having to work and not being with her“
BE WITH HER, I scream as they sedate me.
What is with all the repetition bro in other parts of the story you can’t help yourself but put 8 different adjectives and 15 different verbs into one sentence alone but also you torture us with the same stuff over and over again with no break in between. Please use a middle way!!

Why do authors always create FMC that are dumber than a piece of bread.
Her coworkers starts explaining why the normally happy and friendly CEO turned into a mean asshole. The starts off with the fact that he had a pregnant wife. Every normal person with an IQ that doesn’t match the current temperature (in °C please) would already come to the conclusion that something terrible probably happened to his wife or child or both. What does the FMC ask though?:
“That must be the picture I’ve seen on his desk with the women smiling brightly for the camera. That must be his wife, but how come I haven’t met her yet?”
SMILING BRIGHTLY, I scream while they put me in a straight jacket.
Maybe don’t interrupt her and keep your stupid questions to yourself, thanks.
„He’s a completely different person when she’s around.” Mindy said, smiling softly. “I’ll believe it when I see it.” I mumbled and took a sip of my coffee.“
Her coworker just told her that his wife died during labor and the only thing brining him joy in life is his daughter and she comments it dryly with „I’ll believe it when I see it“
What an apathetic person.

“His eyes locked with mine and my breath caught. Hints of color speckled in them that created a shimmering hazel and made my heart pound wildly in my chest. I felt like my heart might explode. His eyes never leave mine as he exited the elevator. My body stepped towards his with a mind of its own and I was drawn to him. Feeling the air sizzle, I was lost for words as his wavy dark hair shined with the light. Mr. Drake Lawson was drop-dead gorgeous and I was melting at his feet.”
Why do female authors always have the urge to make the FMC a pathetic mess with the hormone control of a teenager.
“Drake got on my last nerve and was a complete asshole, but my body reacted to him in a way no other man had elicited before.”
What is a personality and a brain anyways when the dude looks sMoKiNg HoT😒

„My eyes went wide, and I saw red once again. Wishing nothing more than to take her stupid dress and strangle her with it.“
She has a crush on her boss that she knows for 1 days and she already acts like this around his current female company. Get yourself in check this is pathetic and absolutely embarrassing.

“Can I draw?” She grabbed my attention, and I dropped the book in my lap. “Do you have coloring supplies?” “What does supplies mean?” Hope asked as her face scrunched up in a cute manner, and it made me smile. “Oh, it means if you have that resource, but you wouldn’t even understand what that means...”
People who don’t know how to interact with kids will always get a side eye from me. What do you mean you can’t just say „do you have a pen and paper“ but rather try to explain „supplies“ with „resource“😒. Cringe behavior.

Mister Lawson, Book 2 of the Mister series, was about Billionaire Drake Lawson, a lawyer, and Gemma (no last name given), a personal assistant at Lawson's Legal-turned-Nanny.

Gemma started working for Drake because she needed the money to pay her ailing mother's medical bills. Upon meeting him, she did not like what she saw, other than his looks. His demeanor and attitude were atrocious. Yet, at the end of the business day, Drake almost kissed Gemma, and she had been more than willing to let him do that, and more...after she had already met one of his many lady friends earlier that morning. Oh, and how does one see the other caller's glare through the phone, without it being a video call? And why wouldn't an 8-9-year-old girl NOT know the meaning of "supplies"?

After only a couple of days working at the office, Gemma found herself transitioning into a nanny position. This happened because she found Drake's daughter outside the office building one day. She had run away from her current nanny and bonded with Gemma. So Drake just pushed her into the role without ever finding out how she felt about kids. It wasn't until much later that she told him she didn't like kids and had never wanted any of her own.

The day after Drake and his daughter met Gemma's mother, the older woman passed away (she had been ill with cancer for a long time). Drake showed up at her home and Gemma fell apart from the grief, leading to her asking him to take away her pain. So he did the only thing he could think of...he kissed her. He apologized for "taking advantage" of her and she sent him on his way after saying it shouldn't have happened, and never would again.

The book had some angst, a bit more drama, and a small amount of spice, but the flow of the storyline was too choppy and chaotic. Nothing felt right and it was all over the place. The way the characters interacted with each other felt off and confusion reigned supreme.

The writing style of this book was juvenile and along the lines of a story written for Wattpad. There were times when the characters were so wishy-washy that it felt as if I had been reading a child's writing. They were so flaky that it felt like watching two small children arguing over a toy, only to be best friends again in a matter of seconds.

The author's characters apparently had a problem telling time because the morning started at 6:20 A.M., but it took the FMC from 6:30-lunchtime to clean up a spill. But then Gemma worked like a dog for a while which should have been several hours...and then it was her lunchtime. It just didn't have any continuity. There was also the fact that Drake's "middle-aged" secretary "giggled"...all the time.

There were times when the FMC acted like an innocent, but she mostly acted like an oversexed tart, which made reading her part disappointing. At one point, she acted like a dominatrix, and that honestly was the wrong type of character the author had portrayed her as. In one chapter, she was baby-talking with the "Mommy I miss you" air, then she's "tossing" him back onto the bed and her words were that of a female Dom. The MMC was more wishy-washy and secretive at the same time. He would blow hot then cold so fast it felt like whiplash had taken over this reader, and not in a good way.

There was one scene that didn't quite fit the story, and that was the SA attempt on the FMC. The author offered no reason why the other man chose the FMC to attack. She had only met him twice before, with the second time being him being a bit of a creeper. But for him to assault her the way he did at their third meeting was so far out of the blue that it made zero sense.

This book had so many different plot twists that it felt like this reader's brain was on a perpetual rollercoaster that had more loops, twists, and turns that were nauseatingly difficult to accept. This was not a pleasant thing, mind you. It took away from the story anything good that it had left. It wasn't a pleasant book to read even before the awful trip around the coaster.

If you tally all of the grammatical errors together with all of the other issues this story had, you'd understand why I only gave it a two-star rating. There were times I didn't think I'd give it that high of a rating, but I was in a good mood to be generous. I hope the other stories in the series fare better than these first two books did.

I read an advance copy that urgently needed another round of edits. I am hopeful that some of the problems will be fixed before publication.

Mr Lawson is a grumpy boss romance in which both the boss and the assistant have problems. Drake Lawson turned into a jerk after his wife died in childbirth. He's the kind of person who gets mad if his blinds aren't drawn for him even though he could easily press the button himself. Gemma worries about her mother who has terminal cancer and cannot afford to lose this job. Drake and Gemma feel sparks of instant sexual tension between them but they have to deal with death, a missing person, medical emergency and an assault before finding their happily ever after. So, a lot of drama packed in a quick read. The point of view is Gemma's throughout, and the narration tend to shift from past to present tense and back.

This could have been a three or four star book for me with some edits but as it is, I was too distracted by things that took me out of the flow of the story. The main thing I am going to remember from this book later is the weird way time warps here. The first morning Gemma gets to work at 6.20 am, meets another assistant who tells Gemma about her duties and then Gemma brews her boss some coffee. The boss arrives at six thirty sharp, but the coffee is already cold a minute or two later when he gets around to drinking it. How did it get cold so fast? Drake spills the cold coffee disgustedly, leaves the room, Gemma starts cleaning straight away. When she's just about to finish cleaning, Drake comes back into the room and says it's already lunch time. Where did all the morning go?

Then Drake's 8-year-old daughter Hope runs away from her nanny on her way to school. Gemma gets drafted into taking care of her full time. This was weird because why does a school kid need a full time caretaker? Some of the time Hope seems to be going to school and some of the time she just randomly misses school and hangs around doing fun stuff with Gemma all day although it apparently is a week day. .

And these people think the sun sets in the morning. Seriously. It's not a random typo because there are several references throughout this book to watching the sunset in the morning. I was so distracted by this.

Gemma needs a job and she needs one fast, with her mother's medical bill mounting she needs to do something as fast, which is how Gemma finds herself working as an assistant at Lawson's Legal. She just never expected her cold, cut throat boss to draw her in they way he does but there is a small broken part to Drake Lawson that calls to the caretaker side of Gemma. The question is does she have the grit to cut it in Drakes cutthroat world?

••

Mister Lawson is the second book int the Mister series and let me just tell you that these books seem to be getting better with each one! The billionaire trope is an all time favorite of him and Breanne has found the prefect balance between apple hero boss and sweet softie. I loved that as much as Drake was this alpha cold guy in the office he was never mean or cruel towards Gemma.

••

Gemma was such a cute female lead, I loved that she was genuinely such a giver and so caring. I absolutely loved the way she connected to Hope and this is where she gets to see Drakes true nature. I loved getting to see Drake and Gemma together and gosh did they have a steamy connection!!

••

Mister Lawson was one incredibly written romance that is packed with witty banter, a steamy connection and a heart warming chance to love and be loved. I would definitely recommend reading this book!

Yes this one is definitely more my speed than the first in this series!

This one follows Gemma who is in need of job to pay for medical bills for her terminal mother. She ends up getting a job at Lawson’s Legal as the assistant to Drake Lawson - the owner. Her first day is disastrous with her seeing a very negative side to her new boss. Her coworker Mindy fills her in on the why about his attitude but Gemma is unconvinced there’s another side to him. That is of course, until she meets his daughter Hope. He’s a whole new man around Hope and Hope has taken to Gemma quickly. From here we get a roller coaster of emotions and all kinds of things happen.

Naturally, the steam is there and it’s good! Really good. No complaints there at all. I did find some of it to be unrealistic but uh - honestly that was a lot of the fun in it for me!

Questions arise that must be answered. Is the bond between Gemma and Hope enough to bring Drake around? Read Mister Lawson to find out!

It wasn't the worst book i hv evr read, but close. Sry if that's rude, but it is wht it is!

The plot was okayish, but the writing go to me........ The whole book was worded weirdly thit sentences starting with verbs consecutively.

And every statement had 10 line description, i mean for instance, almost anyone with commonsense would know how a wheelchair works, but gemma(fmc), had lo let us know she was pushing it, folding it, was grateful that it didn't get stuck....... Here it doesn't sound much but in the book there were 100s of cases like this where she was over explaining shit and it really got on my nerve.

The book felt rushed, like the author was trying to bite of too much but wasn't able too chew. There was no character development and had a lot of plot holes. There were so many tragedies hitting the couple one after other that it was giving me whiplash.

Sorry..... But this book didn't work for me.

I am reviewing Mister Lawson, the second book of The Mister Series by Breanne Bergie. This was a hot and sweet romance of a single father and billionaire lawyer boss, Drake, who goes through assistants frequently due to his grumpy personality and tyrannical expectations. This changes when he hires Gemma, a compassionate yet desperate professional who is willing to put up with his behavior out of necessity to care for her ailing mother, and her love of Drake’s young daughter, Hope. Their love story is one that is realistic, emotion-filled, healing and truly sweet! I loved all of the characters, their roles in the book, as well as the contentious dynamic and passion between Drake and Gemma! A happy ever after, with very minor editing issues, and definitely worth reading!

Cover: Yum
My Rating: 71/100
Overall: Alright
Page Turner: Kinda
Recommend: MATURE READERS ONLY

COMMENTS: I have to say, I was sort of disappointed with this book. The writing of the entire book, the dialogue and the long paragraphs weren't worded well and it made it an awkward read. I got the entire premise of the book, but the wording of everything was so weird that I wasn't able to enjoy it. The concept was good. But nothing was delved into enough. There could have been way more description for the whole single dad aspect. This was supposed to be a hate-to-love romance, there was barely any hate really and there was no turning point into love. I don't know, there needed to be a lot polished out in this book to make it a good one and I don't think the proper time was put into it. I don't think I'd venture into any other works from this author, unfortunately.

Man this was horrible. Im so sorry. i really am. But I wouldnt ever read it again. The smut on the other hand, kinda cringe but bearable. But still, this looked rushed. I couldnt even picture the MC bcs it was too rushed. The story plot even.

Like it was basically
1. womans got a job as assistant, attracted to handsome boss
2. asshole boss, but woman really needed the job for a particular reason
3. bitchy side woman
4. bitchy woman being a bitch to main woman.
5. Main woman bumped into boss's daughter
6. His daughter loves her, he felt the warmth
7. MFC's mom met the MMC and his daughter
8. telling e/o's traumas
8. Theres a character's death
9. fell in love, confess, proposal

The end.

I def wouldnt read this again. This was terrible

Drake is a complete a- hole the first time they meet. Gemma needs the job to pay for her mother's medical care. He's hiding something about his medical needs, and she just wants to take care of him so she can keep her job. Then her job becomes taking care of his daughter and things start changing between them. Until she gets attacked. Then he almost died.
This book is a roller coaster if emotions. Feels like an 80s Harlequin book, modernized. Better than the first one, but room for improvement. The adult scenes feel off, they don't flow.

Love love love an office romance.
The story reminds of 50 shades and a little hint of beauty and the beast so if you have love for either your most definitely in for a treat.
Sweet, tender and yet, turbulent , hurtful cold and disturbing.
The book takes you on a rollercoaster of a ride with your emotions from start to finish.
Gemma experiences so many different things with in the pages of this book and the author makes you feel you were right along with her.
Will definitely be looking out for stories from this author.

Mr Lawson! This one definitely jerked my heart strings.

Drake Lawson has the world until he loses apart of himself. This changes him into a grumpy take no excuses boss.

Gemma’s world is falling apart and she is desperate to keep her job as Mr Lawson’s assistant. One day everything changes, but can they over come past hurts and find their way to love?
Well grab Mr Lawson and enjoy the ride.

Another spicy little book from Breanne Bergie! I'm loving her Mister series, filled with big talking billionaires and the women that bring them to their knees. Mister Lawson was no exception! Breanne often deals with difficult topics in her books, like death, grief, illness, but does so in a delicate manner and I always appreciate the little touches of reality.

Can't wait to see what comes next!

I received this book as an ARC and I absolutely loved it! A billionaire AND a single father is right up my alley. I adored this book and I adored the character building. Drake and Gemma and their tension- whew you could feel it coming off the pages. Add in sweet Hope and you have a well rounded book. I am all about the spice in books and this one hit it out of the park. I would HIGHLY recommend this book!

Mister Lawson was hot. Fast-burn romance is one of my best reads and this one is well-written. It was also very unpredictable. Just when I thought I knew where the plot was going, Breanne brought another twist. But this one was also a tear-jerker for me. A great balance of genres and good character development. I would highly recommend this one in the series, even though it is only the second one, it is on top of my list.

Drake and Gemma have a complex relationship. Drake is a man who has closed himself off to the world. Gemma is a woman who is in need of a job to help her dying mother. Gemma and Drake's story is one of a slow burning love. I love how their relationship was not rushed. Gemma got to know what makes Drake tick. This book is a lovely read.

I was not a fan of this book at all. I never read this author before and will never read another one. The story was so rushed. Everything happened all at once. There was no build up or suspense. They were in love in less than a week and all the events were strange. The book was childish and really immature.

Good book

So this was a sassy but beautiful love story. That hit all the emotions. I'm so glad it had the happy ending. This romance book felt realistic. Like it could of been based off of someone's life. I enjoyed it very much. I usually read romance to escape reality. I would read this again.
