Invisible Girls Club #4

Movie Stars Don’t Fall For Nerdy Girls

Rate this book
Every nerdy girl deserves to be loved.

I’m the Nerdy Girl and I don’t believe in romance. Everyone at school is obsessed with the new student—teen movie star Asher Park. Me? I’m the lucky one who almost gets run over by his limo.

And he doesn’t even apologize. To make matters worse, my vice principal asks me to tutor him. That smug, arrogant smile of his tells me he doesn’t think I’m up for the task. You know what? Game on.

But as we study together, I realize we have more in common than I thought. He’s not an arrogant, self-centered celebrity. He’s fun, down to Earth, and he teaches me that there’s more to life than school and homework. I’m falling hard for this guy and want to give romance a shot. But a movie star like him would never choose a nerdy girl like me.

Or would he?

Movie Stars Don’t Fall For Nerdy Girls is the fourth book in the Invisible Girls Club, a sweet YA contemporary romance series. If you like invisible girls who snag the boys of their dreams, this book is for you!

Finally, Charlie’s book! This is the girl that loves doing other people’s homework and has absolutely no interest in boys or romance. I loved how well fleshed out she becomes in this book. She comes across as fearless to her friends, but it’s because she hides the vulnerable parts of herself. Her parents are always fighting, and that’s the real reason behind why she doesn’t want a boyfriend or a relationship–because of the “drama”. Like with the others in this series, Charlie does a lot of growing up in this book. The author does a great job of having the heroines in this series figure out their problems, with the help of their love interests, but they don’t become co-dependent. In this story, Charlie maintains her independence–but learns that it’s okay to lean on others for help sometimes.

OMG that was so cute <3, it's been a while since I last smiled during a book but this one gave me all the fells :D
In this book we will follow the last "invisible girl" Charlie ( who was the most interesting between all four in my opinion) she doesn't believe in love because her family life isn't perfect, but one day a famous Hollywood star Asher transfers to her school and he requires a tutor, and their VP decides that Charlie will become his tutor for extra credit, at first it was hate from Charlie but the more they know each other the more their feelings deepens
this is an enemies to lovers trop with a famous lead, I absolutely ADORE this trop and it was done so well that I was smiling through out the book, specially when he dropped the saranghae bomb <3 .. soo cute, both Charlie and Asher were compatible and they had that really great chemistry that I was rooting for them all the way .. nice finish to the first part of the series, can't wait to read the rest

The heroine loves to do other students’ homework.
I loved the premise, but the execution was weak.
A DNF for me. I was unable to connect to the characters.

Charlie, Charlie, Charlie… you said you would never fall in love but yet here you are dating a literal movie star.

Another fine example of he falls first but she falls harder from Emma Dalton

I love how we get a few Korean words and of course the love confession, so sweet!!!

From the second we see Asher’s POV when they were trapped inside that room inside the library I knew he was really falling for her. And their first kiss? Perfection.

You’ve done again Emma

A nice wrap up for the invisible girls club

Despite the title, this is about how (and how deeply) a high school senior falls in love with the Korean-American actor she is tutoring and he with her. It also is gently cross-cultural and deals with family therapy for the girl’s parents and looks at the thin line between tutoring and cheating.

Normally I'd never even pick up a romance book, they're always the same.

But!

It was alright, some of it was super sweet! I understand the whole.. 'nerd girl x movie star' Wattpad trope however;

It was incredibly stereotyped.

the characters were your typical
'I'll do your homework for free, I watch natgeo every day and I don't have a life outside of school, also, I'm a ginger!!'

And

'I'm the overly stereotyped South Korean guy who's so hot and prideful, don't get on my bad side grr grr bark bark.. but not really, I have a really sweet side uwu..'

Other than that, the only reason the review's a two-star is because of the fact that Asher Park aka Ji-Ho Park was..

Horribly stereotyped and as a South Korean? I cringed over the parts where the characters said things like:

"I heard Korean voices" and
"Him speaking Korean was the hottest thing I'd ever heard."
and "I only know two words, Gahamsamnida and Anneyonghaseyo"

The last one is the least awful, but the only problem is that learning a language's pronunciation is never, ever, ever that easy. She might be a nerd, but Charlie picked up the pronunciation faster than what'd be normally possible, considering my friends can barely even say Anneyong without messing up.

Maybe I'm being a tiny bit nitpicky with that, but the only other thing is the constant romanticisation of the fact that he's Korean??? I'm pretty sure that he was all "ooga booga i hate asian stereotypes" and then he proceeded to make a joke about how "Y'know how Korean grandmas are."

Also, my Halmeoni doesn't say 'Aish' to her television, she'd say more things like "No pabo" (you're stupid) or "Aigoo!" (oh my god!)

The plot was also.. way too slow for me, personally. But maybe I'm just nitpicky, or maybe I just hate rom-com style books.

Anyways, if you've got spare time, check it out for yourself! I didn't like it, but maybe you might.

Now, I really want to take a moment to talk about something that this series (in general) lacks: diversity. Maybe there is some and the characters are white-passing in almost every aspect, but this is the first book with a POC main character. I would like to see more characters in the near future that are POC.

Back to the review.

If there was a character that I looked up to, it's Charlie. She seemed so strong and confident throughout the first three books. I loved seeing that there was more to her and how her home life was nearly falling apart. Some of the questions I had for her were answered as well. Like why she doesn't believe in love, or why she does all the other students' homework.

Maybe she could have cursed at least once? Of all the girls, I would have expected Charlie to swear at least once. She has this aura around her. But then again, I feel like she has something against swearing.

As mentioned earlier, Asher Park is most likely the first POC main character in the Invisible Girls Club Series, being the first-generation Korean-American (meaning his parents immigrated from South Korea and he was born in the United States). The dude practically oozes confident but, like Charlie, is more than just the surface.

I laughed, I cringed, and much more. Both characters grow a lot and learn from each other (more Asher because Charlie is his tutor) and fall in love throughout. I would recommend this story to those who enjoy a good celebrity romance.

This book started out kind of rocky for me. I didn’t like the third book in this series (Bad Boys Don’t Fall For Shy Girls), which happens to be the first and only Emma Dalton book I had read before this. But I liked Charlie in that book, and since her story was teased to be a “celebrity and the average girl” trope (one of my favorites), I decided to give it a shot.

It was also rocky to start because we’re given little to no description of how characters look and then later on eye colors or hair styles or colors are mentioned, so I’m left having to adjust the vision of the characters in my mind, which can make the story feel weird.
It wasn’t even shared that Asher was Korean until a little bit later into the book (two or three-ish chapters in). All the description we get of him upon introduction is that he has straight black hair.

Like I said above, the Celebrity and the Average Girl is one of my favorite tropes, and I really liked how this one played out. I enjoyed the tutor and student trope inclusion too. Both those aspects made for a fun character dynamic between Asher and Charlie.
They played off each other so well, Asher with his sweet, playful, caring personality and Charlie with her no-nonsense attitude and all her walls she had up.
Asher brought her walls down and helped her learn how to live, and Charlie grounded Asher and supported him.
I also loved how they disliked each other at the beginning, steadily became friends, and had that deep friendship and foundation to fall in love on.

And that love confession had to be one of the cutest I’ve ever read.

The only thing I really didn’t like was, wait for it, the miscommunication. Or rather, it was an unwillingness to communicate. Remember those walls Charlie had up? Well, she took a long time to talk to anyone. That includes Asher, her friends, or her parents. And there were several times a single conversation, a simple explanation, or even waiting to hear someone out would have saved so much drama.
That being said, the typical third act misunderstanding that’s par for the course in contemporary romances actually wasn’t too bad in this one. It happened earlier than I was expecting and wrapped up quickly. By the percentage into the book that the misunderstanding would normally have been happening, the characters had already moved on past it.

Overall, it was a cute story that took me by surprise, blended some of my favorite tropes, portrayed likable characters, and left me actually excited and hopeful for the next book in this series!

ok read

***Spoilers splash here and there***

I was waiting for Charlie book glad I got to read it. Not much I can say to be honest. Only thing I can say that I hate when she kept calling him her pupil lol. Like I don’t know it was annoying lol. Plus she kept pushing him away when she didn’t want to have those feelings towards him.

I was glad when she stop being stubborn and actually gave Asher a chance. Because he really liked her but she didn’t want a relationship because of her parents . Which I understand.

Because her parents made her afraid due to their arguing and call each other names. I was glad when they listen to her and seek therapy. That helped their marriage. Also; Charlie friends helped her see that just because her parents was arguing etc that doesn’t mean her relationship with Asher would be the same way.

Book 2. Movie Stars Don’t Fall for Nerdy Girls by Emma Dalton. The Fourth book in the Invisible Girls Club Series. These can be read alone or in order. I would highly recommend to read them in order though. This book goes in the Charlie and Ashers story! I absolutely loved how Emma finished out these girls stories. It a great quick read. You wouldn’t ever think Charlie and Asher would be logical, but they are because ya know opposites attract. Charlie is a shy girl, who is the last group to find that special someone. As well as being the one with family issues, parents fighting. Asher is the movie star who got his story spun and laying low in his hometown and trying to be a normal high schooler. Asher has fallen a bit behind in his studies and Charlie is asked to tutor him. At first Charlie hates Asher, but slowly comes around to falling in love with the last person she expects. Asher. It has the happy ever after ending that we all love. But I’ll leave that to y’all to decide. :)

"The lady doth protest too much, methinks"

Charlie and Asher get off to a bad start. Charlie thinks Asher is a spoiled actor who doesn't care about others but she soon learns there is a lot more to him that she thinks.
Asher aka Ji-Ho also finds himself enjoying his time with Charlie, who was assigned to tutor him. She doesn't make it easy for him and he enjoys the challenge which makes for some fun banter.
But....Charlie is so stubborn that she doesn't need love or time with friends to the point it gets ridiculous. She's in total denial and doesn't even realize how much Asher is helping her understand that its okay so let loose and show emotions. She protesth too much, but in the end....Ji-Ho wins lol
Overall cute story and glad to see Charlie's development and finally standing up to the lazy popular kids!

Cute story with a foreign touch

Charlie is the last of the girls in the group of invisible girls. She believes she will never fall in love as she is cursed to not be happy. But she doesn't need love as long as she has science and homework. Until the day that Asher comes to town and she has to tutor him. A Korean-American teen star on probation joining her high school, what could be worse? Oh yeah, the fact that he is an arrogant jerk, maybe. Or is it because the VP made him her pupil, and she doesn't feel like wasting time on someone like him.
But just like life, nothing happens how you want it to go, and sometimes the biggest challenge becomes your greatest joy.
Asher is determined to have a great time in high school, and no one, not even nerdy Charlie, that fills him up with hours of homework will stop him.

I love Park Ji-Ho [Asher Park] -- after his first impressions. He and Charlie are such a good match. I also loved the culture dynamics of his Korean family background and Charlie's dysfunctional family. It really emphasizes that everyone hides something, and how you hide and handle these things affects more than yourself. I love the group support and the quadruple date!! This cute series reminds me of my own small friend group.

So, five-stars to Emma Dalton for creating such a lovely, enjoyable, entertaining, and relatable-ish series. It has been refreshing to finally find and read simple, clean, and loveable romances with honest to goodness: HEALTHY main character relationships (despite the poor communication obstacles).

4,5 stars rounded to 5

This was really cute, I’m starting to really enjoy this series. Yes, it’s cheesy and no, it’s not that deep, but it’s a sweet and clean YA series and except for the first book, which I just couldn’t finish, I think the books are fun and absolutely enjoyable if you like lighthearted Highschool romances.

This one was actually my favorite because Charlie, the FMC, is a no-nonsense sort of girl who doesn’t swoon and fawn over boys. She’s very rational and practical and even though her character was a bit stereotypical, it was just fun to watch her fall for Asher while being very adamant about not being interested in romance whatsoever.

More detail before end of book.

Just to let you know I love your books, and I'm 63. I would have liked to see how the season played out w/ Zane as quarterback. Would love to see them win state with both of them playing. Next instead of moving on to Lilly I would like to see Manny, finish his true love, he was definitely part of the invisibles. I'm still looking forward to what is to come. Hope we see some of Bailey's work with getting girls more into sports and not just cheerleading. Overall great series,
!!

I really enjoy this series so far and I can't wait to read more. Charlotte aka Charlie and Ji-hoe aka Asher are just so incredibly sweet as a couple. Asher is an actor and Charlie loves science and doing homework. Charlie and Asher had to go through some downs to figure out they were meant to be together. Asher brought the fun when Charlie brought the logic to the relationship. They just seemed to work together so well.

I'm gonna go with a 3.5* rating on this one.
I really think there wasn't much chemistry between Charlie and Asher. It was more on his part though than hers. She was too robotic for the first 75% of the book. And she acted very strange towards him, he put up with a lot tbh.
Anyway it was a nice read and I will probably continue with the spin-off the author has announced.

very cute

Super cute story. I’d have liked a bit more punishment for those jerks at Charlie school. But the whole story was really adorable, and I really loved the South Korean addition to this.

DNF@ 69%. Yup. I made it all the way to 69%. I just couldn't handle the self-centered idiotic choices of the MC anymore. The book also could have been about 1/3 less in size. Lots of unnecessary filler that didn't move the story along at all. Sorry for those who liked it; definitely not for me.

Good story, I loved how Charlie finally had her turn. This was different from the other three because Charlie has a hard time recognizing what feelings/butterflies are and learns to become vulnerable. We also see that Charlie is not perfect and bottles things up.

I liked this book the best in this series so far. As it's mentioned many times in the book, most of the plot is "logical". It was a fun read, and i could sort of relate to Charlie quite a bit most of of the times.

I loved it

The books I have been reading had me in a slump. I had this book on my list for a while. I loved Asher and how he wanted to be “normal” and Charlie was that. The struggles were real and at times cute. I enjoyed this book very much.
